  • Way Off The Books

YHC arrived at the pre determined Sunday time and place for the weekly south side Off The Books run/walk. Upon launch time YHC was the only runner, and no walkers were observed. Thankfully YHC had a route planned, which when executed resulted in just over 6 miles. Post run coffee was delicious. See y’all in the gloom!

While we were chatting at the end there was a speed demon lunch lady who must have been late, we were ready to jump out of the way as fast as they were rolling in! Good to catch up with Bullseye. These times are tough on all of us. YHC is very thankful we have each other to lean on. As ever during this ongoing pandemic it feels like we are in the year 2020 part 2. YHC appreciates we all have different comfort levels. Two PAX with COVID is certainly scary. As with all the beat downs YHC has attended this week we took extra care to maintain social distancing.

  • Little L

Weather was predicted to be 40 degrees and wet. Thankfully for the PAX it was 70 degrees and sunny. 17 men took the Daily Red Pill and descended upon the AO in search of a beat down. This is the known unknown of what transpired that morning.

Numbers, Names, Announcements (below), YHC took us out with a poem (also below).

    NMM

This Q was to mark YHC’s 38th journey around the sun. A couple days ago YHC learned of the untimely passing of MF DOOM at the age of 49. This hit home as a reminder that there are no guarantees in life. Tomorrow is not promised and YHC must take advantage of his time left. Every day above ground is a blessing, and a good day. This poem really speaks to YHC about making the best possible use of the time we are given on this earth:

    The Mower

    BY PHILIP LARKIN

The mower stalled, twice; kneeling, I found
A hedgehog jammed up against the blades,
Killed. It had been in the long grass.

I had seen it before, and even fed it, once.
Now I had mauled its unobtrusive world
    Unmendably. Burial was no help:

Next morning I got up and it did not.
The first day after a death, the new absence
Is always the same; we should be careful

Of each other, we should be kind
    While there is still time.

  • In Search of A Biscuit

5 brave souls adapted the time honored tradition of the start and stop location for Breakfast Club. This was done in order to obtain a most delicious biscuit sandwich. According to the aloof cyclist, this is how it went down.

Led by Fauxberry (AKA Handshake), we moseyed down Robinson, around the lakes, and through and uncleared field for the long way around to get to Dogpile. Got in about 2.5 miles! On the way back the biscuits were calling our name so we took a more direct route.

Alas, our journey was in vain, as when we arrived. They biscuit joint was closed. However, great conversation was had by all, and it was nice to change up the route!

  • …Too Many Publix

3 warriors of the gloom sought to better themselves today. According to the female runner who took Shorts Only Posting to a whole new level, this is what transpired:
YHC went solo for a pre-run through the exceptionally quiet neighborhood across the street. Made it back just before 5:30 to meet the PAX, then we were off!

Run from school to take a right on John Rolfe. Turn left onto the trail for Short Pump Park. At small round-about do various warmerama exercises around the circle:

    • Butt Kickers
    • High-knees
    • Carioca
    • Ukrainian Soldiers
    • Imperial Walkers
    • Toes in walk
    • Toes out walk

Mosey to the lot across the street from the Publix. Time for a Triple Check with: Merkins, Pole Smokers, and a long lap around the perimeter.

Mosey down Pump Rd to hang a right onto Broad St. Run down til we reached the Ulta. Find a spot on the wall for 10, 15, and 20 donkey kicks with people’s chair in between.

Mosey all the way to the Ack Ack, hang a right and head back to John Rolf and BTTF. Various cool down stretches before finishing with Rosalita and Hello Dolly.

Numbers, names, spirited discourse, YHC took us out with thankfulness for the PAX and our many blessings.

    NMM

The concept for this AO is very unique and one that YHC finds to be very enjoyable. Enjoyed the discussion of the similar business models of Peloton and Starbucks. Also, all the necessary ingredients for civil war etc. YHC is thankful to be able to have frank thoughtful discussion with all brothers in the PAX. Have a great one fellas!

  • RIP to Chuck Yeager

At Timberwolf today the temperatures were 70 degrees and sunny as per usual. There was complaining, but at this point there would be great concern if there was no mumble chatter from the PAX. POG rolled in hot at 5:30am and we were off!

Mosey around full front parking lot and back to the start for a little:

    COP

    • Invisible Jump Rope
    • Hillbillies
    • Arm Circles
    • Circle Arms
    • Collard Pickers
    • Dead man hang (both legs)
    • Hand Release Merkins
    • Reverse Crunches
    • Freddy Mercury’s

    Mosey to bus lot because:

Chuck Yeager was a true American hero who carried himself with dignity and achieved much. He did it without calling attention to himself or seeking glory. He started his military career as a fighter pilot in World War II. During the war he shot down at least 5 Nazi aircraft.

    5 burpees OYO.

Mosey back around the school to the basketball courts because:

On October 14th, 1947 Chuck Yeager, piloting the X-1, became the first man to travel faster than the speed of sound. Ergo:

    The THANG #1 (four corners)

    • 10 burpees
    • 14 WWIIs
    • 19 Plank Jacks
    • 47 Shoulder Taps

The day before he fell off a horse and broke two ribs. So lets do it again. Repeato

    The THANG #2 (100s)

The speed he reached on that flight was approximately 700 miles an hour, so we are going to do 100s seven times to reach that number. PAX took turns choosing the exercise and they included:

    • LBCs (Boberry)
    • SSHs (POG)
    • Squats (Florence)
    • Merkins (Nancy Lopez)
    • Rosalitas (Wilson)
    • Monkey Humpers (Boberry)
    • American Hammers (Tobit)

Mosey around track and back to the side of school for alternating People’s Chair and 10x Donkey Kicks (3 rounds)

Mosey to side of school. One sprint behind the school. Then mosey back doing Bernie Sanders, Carioca, Lead off Hops, and a recovery run back to the flag.

Numbers, Names, Prayer Requests, Announcements (see below), Florence took us out.

    NMM

Thank you for the opportunity to lead. It is an honor to be a member of this group. Glad to share a little bit of Chuck Yeager’s story with everyone. Have a great day! Be a positive influence on the world!

  • A Delicious Woke Bagel

Cold, rain, and wind was predicted for the morning. Scaring away many from The Breakfast Club. Luckily, the weather was 70 degrees and sunny, perfect weather for a couple dudes with mustaches and Hawaiian shirts to run back and forth through Carytown. Upon completion of return trip EF Hutton took us out with some kind words.

    NMM

Great to get the pre and post mosey in. Enjoyed getting to know E. F. Hutton a little better. Still working out the pace for this thing. We ended up getting some extra credit running in because YHC was going to fast and we didn’t want to have to stand around and get cold again. Also, YHC highly recommends the different types of unique coffee available from The Breakfast Clubs interior. Untoasted, unsliced bagels? Not so much.

  • What’s a Merkin?

2 warriors descended the mean streets of Carytown. Pre and post a most excellent Upchuck beat down. Topics of conversation included the etymology of F3 exercise names and the joys of the home owner experience. Great fellowship today! Also YHC must be doing breakfast club wrong as fellow PAX keep saying slow down.

  • This english chick is really whiny

14 Stallions showed up at NoToll to better themselves. According to the confused walkers, this is how it went down:

YHC’s favorite album came out 20 years ago in the year 2000: Kid A by Radiohead. The same year that there was also an election not decided on election night. Why not share the greatness of Radiohead with the rest of the PAX? 5:30am hit and we were off! Mosey to the large parking lot for:

    COP

F3 welcome, introduction and disclaimer followed by:

Invisible Jump Rope x 10, Jazzercise x 10, Russian Soldiers x 10, Collard Pickers x 10, Pretzel Twists x 20 (10 each leg), Hello Dolly x 10, Rosalita x 10. Recover and mosey to where the benches used to be, turn on the tunes then:

    THE THANG

X Marks The Spot #1: Run from pavilion to each corner of fields and back, 20 SSH at each corner, 20 Merkins back at the pavillion each time. Al Gore for the 6.

Triple Check #1: Carolina Dry Docks, LBCs, timer mosey around bleachers and back. Al Gore for the 6.

    X Marks The Spot #2: 20 merkins x 20 squats x4: Al Gore for 6

Triple Check #2: No Surrenders, Flutter Kicks, timer runs around tree next to parking lot and back. Al Gore for the 6.

    X Marks The Spot #3 :20 merkins x 20 monkey humpers x4 : Al Gore for 6

    BTTF for

Numbers, Names, Announcements (see below), YHC took us out

    NMM

YHC has thought a lot lately about how you keep hearing that there is unprecedented division politically and otherwise in the world right now. It sure doesn’t appear that way in the gloom, where we are all brothers! Also, it was only 20 years ago that an election was close and not decided on election night. As we approach Thanksgiving, YHC is very thankful for F3 and all the PAX! If you couldn’t tell from the music…. 20 years ago was a much darker time mentally for YHC. Thanks in no small part to the PAX, YHC is in a much better place these days! Make today a great day fellas, ya’ll rocked it today with 240 merkins!

  • The Battle of Leyte Gulf/Run DMC

Word in the neighborhood was that it was cold and wet. The weatherman was wrong, as it turned out to be 70 degrees and sunny in the gloom! 4 bootcampers and 2 runners enjoyed the sunshine. Mosey to the top of the hill for:

    COP

20 Side Straddle Hop, 10 Jazzercise, 10 Don Quixote, 10 Collard Pickers, 10 Russian Soldiers, 10 Low Scissor, 10 High Scissor, 10 Merkins, recover.

    THE THANG #1

Four corners NASCAR style (run fast, turn left): 10 Shoulder Tap Merkins, 20 2-count Flutter Kicks, 30 Carolina Dry Docks, 40 Monkey Humpers, plank for the six. Mosey back down the hill to the rock pile. Grab a coupon and partner up for:

    THE THANG #2

Time for a Dora: partner 1 runs to playground to do 5 pull ups. partner 2 does exercises: 100, 200, 300

Still more time so we did a run up the hill with Bernie, merkins and catch me if you can. Then 4 minutes of Mary.

Great to lead out at New Market. Lots of options for things to do. Great to see Wilson and Duke at the end! Thanks to Nancy for keeping me up to date on pop culture from before my time.
