  • Takeover interrupted

Six stallions emerged from the gloom to observe that the Ghost Flag appeared at RAMM today and interrupted a week of SOJ takeovers. In place of what must have been an intricately well planned route making strategic use of Grove Avenue by Oyster the following was provided by YHC:

All distances: West on Grove / Left on Tuckahoe / Cross Cary to Paxton / Follow Paxton around as it becomes Ampthill and loops back to Cary / Cross Cary and follow Stratford Crescent around to Cary / Cross Cary to Hillcrest

4’s – do a loop on Hillcrest and return via Oak Lane to Grove

5’s and 6’s – start down the west side / right turn on Hillcrest, around the bottom of the loop and take the second right up the steep side of Charmian / Follow Charmian as it sharply turns left and take a left on Pocahontas / Return to Hillcrest and finish the loop

5’s – Return via Oak Lane to Grove

6’s – Do another loop around Hillcrest and return via Oak Lane to Grove

    What actually happened:

YHC ran most of the 4 mile route, curtailing to manage injury recovery

2 of the PAX rucked their own route which I understand involved Grove Avenue

1 of the PAX was obligated to make his prescribed offering to the basketball spirits by circumnavigating the Siegel Center pulling in the two remaining PAX members to witness the ritual

It was a great morning to run.

  • Balmy and lonely

Anticipating an invasion from across the river YHC arrived at the Carillon ready to greet those who emerged from the gloom to enjoy the beautiful weather. Realizing the crowds were not going to materialize, YHC got moving and went to check the AO for signs of life. This is how it went down…

The PAX jogged past the Pump House looping around and returning to the amphitheater for COP.

COP: SSH, Helicopters, IWs, DQs, Copperhead Squats, Dead Man Hang, Merkins, LBCs, APD’s all IC

Staying in the amphitheater perform 5 merkins on each step to the top. Turn around and perform 5 dips on each step to the bottom. At the bottom perform a few rounds of Mary: american hammers, WWII’s, heels to heaven. Return to the top of the amphitheater doing 5 more merkins on each step.

PAX returned to the flag via the pump house road and departed back into the gloom. Only a few unidentifed sounds in the brush suggest there was anything else stirring at WDog that morning.

  • A nice spring day in October

Eight men emerged from the gloom thinking it was a Saturday in October but apparently it was a Saturday in April. In any case, according to the equally confused deer this is what transpired…

COP: SSH, Helicopters, DQ, DMH, IW, Copperhead Squats, Merkin, LBC, APD all IC

Mosey to the end of the field for a down and back on the boulevard, turning at Garrat. 2 Merkins at each lightpost down, increasing burpees at each light post on the way back.

Saunter down to the opposite end of the field for The Beast (6 modes of movement, 6 exercises, 6 sets): 1 – Run/Arm Circles, 2 – Bernie/American Hammers, 3 – Karaoke/LBC, 4 – (Half field) Bear crawl/Squats, 5 – Walk or lunge/SSH, 6 – Run/monkey humpers (YHC: This is what I wrote down but seems like it was actually different. Serves me right for not getting BB written sooner)

Head over to the good ole amphitheater and perform 5 dips on each step on the way down, on the way back up perform two V-Ups on each step.

Return to the flag for Mary: 20 LBC’s in cadence, 10 APD’s in cadence, short savasana.

Happy Birthday to Gambler! Reminder to look for opportunities to support Breaking Bread. Groups are making trips to The Bridge – all are welcome.

Prayers continue for Fudd’s sister and family and wishing a speedy recovery for Faceplant’s M.

It was great to see Goldberg found the opportunity to join us and we got to catch up at Libbie Market over cheesy eggs.

  • Aren’t there steps on this side?

Seven young men congealed from the gloom wondering if the stairs up the side of the reservoir were accessible despite the construction obstructions. Spoiler alert: they’re not. According to the folks trying to setup for a 5k race around the boat lake in the early morning hours, this is what transpired.

Warmup jog do the former location of the police officer memorial for COP.

COP: SSH, Helicopters, DQ’s, Dead man hang, IW’s, Copperhead Squats, Merkins, LBC’s, APD’s all IC

Mosey along the edge of the reservoir to see if there are stairs to include in an exercise set: nope, not on that side so continue on around to the other side of the reservoir and confirm that the paved walkway is inaccessible due to construction barriers and on down to boat lake.

Starting near the boat house – alternate 10 merkins and 10 WWII’s at each lamp post to the bench at the far side where leaders return to meet the 6. From the meeting point continue around the lake alternating 10 american hammers and 10 lieutenant dan’s at lightposts to the point about a third of the way around. Finish the trip around the lake with incrementing burpees at each lightpost ending with 8.

Continue our tour of the reservoir to see if the stairs can be gotten to – nope. Onward to the corner of Westover Rd and Trafford Rd for 11’s – LBC’s and Merkins between the corner and alley between the houses as you head down Trafford and back.

Return to the flag for LBC’s and stretching and savasana to close things out.

The 10 year anniversary is coming up Saturday 9/21: Workouts at Dogpile starting at 5am, 6am, main convergence workout is at 7am with awards at 8:20. Family inclusive potluck cookout Saturday at 1:30p at Huguenot Park.

Mr Rogers reminded us that September is Suicide Awareness Month and shared that clinicians report that a high percentage of patients will not acknowledge they are having thoughts of suicide or self-harm even when they are and then act on those thoughts. Remember that people may be suffering silence and not sharing the pain they are experiencing. Have compassion and look for other signs that people are struggling.

Flatline is organizing CPR classes. Sign-up! You never know when it can save a life.

Handshake share the his niece’s dog got scared and ran away and the family was hoping to be reunited. In an update since Saturday morning Handshake let me know that the dog had been found!

OBT is looking for a location to start an AO he was fond of in Charlotte called T3 – Tabata / Track / Tuesday – coming to a track in the RVA area soon.

Keep Fudd’s sister Mary and her family in your prayers as she continues to battle cancer.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead. SYITG

  • Is the project wrapping up?

4 Dogpile veterans emerged from the gloom get a status on the Carillon renewal project which has appeared to be without end. Today, however, behind the fence it appears much of the extra material and equipment has been removed. Could they possibly be nearing completion? Nobody appears to be holding their breath.

    The workout went like this:
COP – SSH, Helicopters, DQ’s (nice and slow), IW, Dead man hang, Copperhead Squat, The Merkin, LBC, APDs all IC

Mosey to the end of the field and perform incrementing merkins at each light pole down to Condie. Cross the road and do incrementing WWII’s at each light pole coming back

Saunter to the Amphitheater and do 5 dips on each step going down

Navigate through the set of Rapunzel down to the Pipeline for a four person triple check, err, quadruple check with three cycles, something like that. One person ran while the other three cycled through American Hammers, Lunges, and Squats

Back up the hill to the Amphitheater: starting at the bottom alternate 1 merkin and 2 merkins to the top.

Back to the flag for Mary, stretching, and savasana.

Numbers and names. YHC took us out

    Announcements:

    • 3 RVA 10 Year Anniversary Convergence 9/21 at Dogpile – Main workout starts at 7am / Check the pre-blast for all of the other related activities including a family friendly potluck/cookout at Huguenot Park at 1:30p

  • Let’s run some hills!

16 or so PAX emerged from the gloom looking for some mileage and were greeted by gorgeous weather. YHC picked up the Q at the last minute and leaned on a route from earlier in the year to add some hills to the RAMM diet this week in honor of the upcoming BRR.

The route is mapped here: https://onthegomap.com/?m=r&u=mi&w%5B%5D=Routes+may+not+be+suitable+for+public+use.&c%5B%5D=Route+data+%C2%A92023+On+The+Go+Map%2C+OpenStreetMap+Contributors&d=8090&f=6f235d0b33&n=1&dm=1&context=share&r2=ixeb7zgWvEc1l2s1l3i1x2o1f3o1f3s1j3u1r3c1j2Ml18FMj1o1f349w1v3m1Z3_1%7E3u1p34Be1l2o1h3c1j2U%7E1u2t5W4h8_3d8w3z7NFl4f3j5j4z3h2v2X2%7E1TJ7f1D6X1p4p3DBf2x1f1X1LLx1X2l8r6x2Lp2l1n1p1j4X3h1LH1F0Z1IRUFK58f2u28o1GCu7y5C6c1Gm24W3Gu2g2g5k4k1W2Y2s3g2c2W4w3KCQs2GCUSW1Y1IUEy16m12G2q1Li2f1q1b1g1BAj2m152X16PBn1JZ1F7Eb1m2X4d3JHCp10p2VX2b1Vh2r1JJTVt1f2X1X3Dt2Ht1X1r1Vj17NFv1z21h3Ul2OY1m2j1w1NOHUDo19o1Lm4f1s2x1_3z1_39Od1s2d7qF5Y16SAEm2_1a1Sa3k2a2n4W4j8m2d5W1b227y1z3q2l6Qz1CPMVSRW1o2Y1w2K_1Ma2Cy1Oo1_1e1S0y11u1Ns1f1q1n2s4w3c1l28Da1Gi2W1Y3c2oDu944t2u5TW2b1k2n1i3d1m23Ct1q3z1W4l1a3v1w33An1g3T_1Lm1b1k2t1s3r1k3n1g3n1g3h1y2r1m3Lm1

  • And the winner is…

Five men emerged from the gloom in search of bright sunshine and a balmy 70 degrees under which to engage in scholarly analysis of online dating evaluation criteria. After careful deliberation and cases made for evaluating political compatibility, alignment in progress through life’s accomplishments, fiscal responsibility, and accounting for quality of character it was agreed that when it comes down to it, go with the one that’s more physically attractive. Literally never fails. These studs also worked in some exercise during lulls in the debate. That part went like this:

COP: SSH, Helicopter, Dead Man Hang, DQ, IW, Copperhead Squat, Merkin, LBC, APD, Box Cutter all IC

Mosey to the Amphitheater: incrementing dips on each row starting at 1 at the top ending at 18

Amble down to the pipeline: a group of three and a group of two – one group runs the pipe loop while the other does exercises: Exercises were WWII’s, American Hammers, plank

Ascend the hill to the rusty cage: individually perform a cycle of two exercises and run to the hydrant and back: Round1 – 5 pull-ups, 5 jerkins; Round 2 – 5 Jerkins, 5 dips, Round 3 – 5 dips, 5 pull ups

As the rain picked up migrate to the triangle: First round – Bear crawl, 10 carolina dry docks, run down the hill and do 20 WWII’s, run up the hill and do 10 merkins. Second round – lunge, 10 jump squats, down the hill and do 10 double count american hammers, up the hill and do 10 merkins. Third round – lunge, 5 lieutenant Dans, 20 LBCs, up the hill and finish with 10 merkins.

After making sure Mr Rogers had both contact lenses still implanted someplace his head, saunter back to the flag and fill the remaining time with part of a round of 11’s between the light posts: start with 10 squats and 1 SSH. Called when time was reached.

    Count off and identify yourself.

Announcements: Some voiced and some pulled from other backblasts – there’s a lot going on!
