  • Not POG

Leaving SOT on Wednesday, POG threatened to fill the empty Q spot at Timberwolf. Needing to post and knowing how tough a POG Q can be, I decided to slip my name on the Q sheet before POG would have a chance.

    Here’s how it went.

Mosey to the front of the school.

COP: Arm circles, windmills (I mean helicopters), DQs, Russian soldiers.

Mosey the the incline at the entrance.

Partner up for a dora. 100 HR merkins, 200 jump squats, 300 SSH. Runner alternates b/w regular run and Bernie up the incline.

Mosey to Honeymoon’s horseshoe spot. Partner up. Partner 1 runs the horseshoe over and back, while partner 2 does Carolina dry docks. Round 2, repeat with squats. Round 3, flutters.

Mosey to the hill behind the basketball court.

Round 1, Bernie up the hill. 2, crawl bear. 3, backwards crab soccer. 4, sprint. 5, bear crawl 6, crawl bear.

Mosey to the east side of the school.

Wall sit while we partner up. Partner 1 completes 30 donkey kicks while P2 does merkins. Wall sit when done. Repeat with 25, donkey kicks. Then 20.

    Mosey back to the flag.

Circle up and each member picks their favorite exercise (but POG cannot pick burpees).

Time is up. Thanks to Duke for taking us out strong. And thanks to the New Market Crew for not fartsacking.

FNG showed today but knew no one. He donated at Boberry’s blood drive May 1, noticed the F3 shirts, and found us on the web. Much respect to Dracula who kept up without breaking a sweat, literally.

  • Return to Twin Team

After being dormant for several months, four returned to Twin Team for a Friday beatdown. Here’s how it went.

Mosey to the bus loop. Helicopters, DQs, 10 SSHs + 10 Merkins x 3, squats.

Mosey over for a modified curb crawl. 15 jump squats, crawl to opposite curb, 20 2-count toe touches on the curb, crawl bear back. Repeat 3 more times.

Mosey to the football field. 1 member presses (what appeared to be) a hurdle made from 2x4s. 2nd member performs jerkins on the steeplechase hurdle. 3rd member curls a propane tank. 4th member was the timer running up to the top of the bleachers and back. Rotate and repeat 3 times.

Mosey to the edge of the parking lot. 20 dips on the crew boat trailer, 20 squats, 15 merkins, run around the parking lot. Repeat 3 times.

To the base of the hill. Crawl bear to the top 3 times.

Back to the flag. Modified ring of fire.

    That was it.

  • Heavy Traffic at SOT

Nine committed men stepped out of the car and into the drizzle minutes before the start at SOT this morning.  Idle chatter and YHC almost missed 5:30.

    The Thang

Mosey to the west end of the school and circle up.

    • DQs
    • Windmills
    • SSHs in cadence x 10 then Merkins x 10.  Repeat 3x
    • Monkey Humpers in cadence x 25 then Carolina DDs x 10.  Repeat 3x

Mosey to the loading dock and partner up for a failed experiment.  Partner 1 performs Merkins and Squat Jumps while P2 hops up and down on the loading dock.  Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough room on the dock.  Audible.

Mosey to the bottom of the hill and partner up.  P1, Wall Sits.  P2 runs to the top and does 10 Merkins and 10 Jump Squats.

Move to the sidewalk around the concession stand.  Elbow Plank to Reg Plank and back down.  5 on each side.  Then, reverse lunges x 12.  Repeat 3x.

Back to the bottom of the hill.  Crawl Bear up the hill for 10 paces.  Then, Bernie to the top.  Repeat with 20 paces.  A 3rd round was in order, but the hill was unusually busy with auto traffic this morning.

To the tennis courts.  10 Merkins, 10 Jump Squats at each corner.  Mosey the short side, Spring the long.  Wall sits for the Six.  Then, finish with 30 paces of Crawl Bear.

Indian Run around the back of the school.  Thanks to Chick-fil-a for starting off strong.

Around the front of the school, partner up.  P1 does 25 dips on the benches, P2 does Ball Dippers.  Repeat 3x.  Wall sits for the last minute and back to the flag.

Don’t forget Poker Night at Orange Crush’s house this Sat.

Prayers for Nancy’s coworker struggling with Cancer.

Thanks for your patience this morning, fellas.  It’s been a bit since I put my name on the Q Sheet, and the rust was visible.

  • Christmas Leftovers

Even with an empty cell on the Q Sheet, 8 greats pulled into the SOT lot this morning looking for a Hot Potato beatdown.  The condensation on Rosie’s windshield indicated he’d arrived much earlier for EC.  Fresh off his 12 Days of Christmas in July, and possibly attempting to avoid writing the BB three days in a row, Rosie took the lead.

    Rosie

Mosey along the front of the school and circle up in the parking lot for some DQs, Helicopters, Merkins, and Flutter Kicks.  Mosey to the rear of the school and onto the track.  Partner up for Dora.  The run portion: up the stairs on the east side of the bleachers, along the top, and down the west side stairs back to the track.  Exercises:  100 Merkins, 200 Squats, 300 Imperial Walkers.  Pass to Mouse Trap.

    Mouse Trap

Indigenous Run around the track with the rear PAX performing 1 burpee before cycling to the front.  After about a lap, YHC started to think it felt like a DK start…  After another 100 yards, Mouse Trap stops along the sideline and calls for 11s.  On side 1, WWIIs.  Side 2, Burpees!  The PAX quickly expressed their feelings about one of the exercises, so Mouse Trap graciously called an audible.  Side 2 would be Diamond Merkins.  Much better!  Pass to Tobit.

    Tobit

Tobit takes the PAX to the base of the hill behind the concession stand.  Awesome, my legs are already smoked.  Partner up for Love Hill (I think he called it).  1 PAX runs up and back while PAX 2 is doing Bear Crawl, Crab Soccer, and Broad Jump Burpees towards the top.  Switch, Wash, rinse, repeat until both PAX arrive at the top.  Pass to YHC.

    Bullseye

To the tennis courts for 4 Corners.  Corner 1, 10 Carolina Dry Docks.  C2, 20 Jump Squats. C3, 30 LBCs.  C4, 40 SSHs.  Circle up in Elbow Plank position.  In cadence, Elbow Plank to Merkin Plank – 5 each side.  Next, opposing members of the circle crawl to the center for 10 Booyah Merkins.  Crawl Bear back to the circle.  Continue around the circle.  Back to the flag.

    Puppy Pile this Sat, 7:05.

Mouse Trap shared that he’s heard too many stories recently about relationship struggles.  He reminded us to work on being good husbands and fathers when we returned to our homes.  Good call MT.

  • Half the PAX was New Market

    The Thang

Mosey along the front of the school and circle up in the parking lot for some DQs, Helicopters, (wait, here comes McRib), Backward Lunge in Place, SSHs, and Squats.

    11s

Mosey to NE corner of the track for 11s on the grassy hill.  At the bottom, Jump Squats.  At the top, Walk out Merkins.  Entire PAX must finish round 1 before beginning round 2.  Hold Plank, Al Gore, etc. for the Six between rounds.

    Tennis Corners

Mosey to the tennis courts for 4 Corners, cumulative/ascending.  Carolina Dry Docks, SSHs, Merkins, LBCs.

    Around the School

Line up, single file for one lap around the school.  Six runs to the front, repeat.  You understand.

    Bear Crawl Ring of Fire

Circle up.  PAX rotates 90 degrees to the right and proceeds to Bear Crawl in a circle.  Q calls stop and 1st PAX complete 10 Merkins.  Continue Bear Crawl… rinse repeat.

    Wall Stuff

Mosey to a wall on the side of the school for 20 Squats followed by Wall Sits.  Repeat 3 times.

    Numberama, Namerama

    Announcements

Convergence at Tredegar tomorrow, 7 am.

Great turnout this morning fellas.  Thanks to the New Market crew for bringing half the PAX!

Have a safe, happy 4th, and remember why we celebrate.

  • Simple as that, Déjà vu

    2 posted.

    2 ran.

    5 miles.

  • Humid Potato

5 super studs trekked to Timberwolf this morning without knowing who would be the QIC.  Shakedown quickly took charge and started off a hot potato.

Shakedown led a mosey to the tennis courts for a warmup… SSHs, Helicopters, DQs, Russian Soldiers, Merkins, and maybe an ab exercise.

Next, Shakedown took the PAX to a grassy hill (a first for YHC) behind the basketball court for 11s.  At the base of the hill, WWIIs.  Bear Crawl to the top for Squats.  Shakedown called an audible after round 1 – Jump Squats at the top instead.

Shakedown passed the potato to YHC.  From the hill, we ran single file to the front of the school.  Six performs 3 Merkins and sprints to the front.  Repeat until we arrive at the entrance.

In front of the school we did one of YHC’s favorite.  Merkins of various style at the bottom of the hill.  Crawl Bear up the hill about 15 yards, then backward run to the top.  Perform a variety of leg exercises and run to the bottom.  4 rounds total and pass the potato to OC.

Orange Crush took us to the picnic tables in front of the school.  Partner up.  Partner 1 runs across the parking lot around the Group II barricades and back while partner 2 performed various exercises called out by OC.  Exercises included Derkins, Dips, and some ab stuff YHC doesn’t do.  Total 4 rounds.  OC then passed the potato to Tobit.

With approx. 5 mins to go, Tobit took us back to the flag.  Circle up for 4.5 minutes of abs.  Shakedown notified Tobit there were 27 seconds to go, so Tobit calls out 3 Burpees.

    Announcements

Amateur hour at RAMM Gears tomorrow – beach cruisers welcomed.

No excuses workout Sat in DaVille at 7:30.

    OC took us out.

Great push this morning fellas.  One of the best HPs I’ve attended.  Thanks to Shakedown for providing the VDOT label for the barricades.

  • Omaha, Omaha

An impressive 15 strong men, from Hate to Respect, Respect, reported to SOT this morning to enjoy the comfortable temps and find the snake Wedding Singer planted last week.

    COP:

Mosey for a partial lap around MMS stopping in the front lot for a warmup… DQs x10, Windmills x5, Russian Soldiers x10, and SSHs x10.

    Modified Curb Crawls

Mosey along the front of the school picking up Döner Kebab, who made a pitstop on the way to SOT.  Line up on the curb.  Bear Crawl to the opposite curb and perform 20 box jumps on the curb.  Crawl Bear back and perform 10 walkout Merkins.  Repeat 5 times.  Exhausted and hearing mumble groaning, YHC called an audible to finish with 4 rounds.

    Triple Check

Mosey to the track and partner up for a Triple Check.  Partner 1 runs, partner 2 performs Merkins, and partner 3 performs Squats.  The run… up and down the grass hill.  A nicely manicured hill used by the cross-country team that YHC can’t believe hasn’t been utilized previously.

The “audible” here was made prior to the start.  YHC intended to use this hill for Crawl Bears but altered because of the grumbling heard during the Bear Crawl / Crawl Bear mentioned above.

    Triple Nickel

Mosey to the back of the concession stand.  Wall Sit, followed by a backwards run (Marmaduke style) up the paved hill, perform various Merkins at the top.  Repeat 5 times.  On rounds 3, 4, and 5, stop in the middle for a short section of Crawl Bears.

    4 Corners

Mosey to the courts for 4 Corners, ascending.  Merkins x10, Jump Shot Jump Squats x20, SSHs x30, LBCs x40.  Mosey back to the flag.

    Numberama, Namerama

    Announcements

HDHH in the west end on 6/19.

Grateful for the strong showing this morning.  YHC is always a little nervous adding to the Q sheet – fearing no one will show.  YHC is also fearful of snakes, so we stayed away from the west end of the track / woods.

I’ve never seen a dog run backwards, but Marmaduke was first to the top on all 5 backward runs.  Great job buddy.

I appreciate you guys pushing me harder every day.

  • Old Skool Bullseye

Double digits posted at Twin Team this morning, but the PAX never saw the mountain.  After 2 days of back-to-back Gumbo beatdowns, YHC was too sore and exhausted for a hill workout.

Some of the Twin Team regulars may remember a strange dude doing his own thing – running the bleachers and playing on the monkey bars – at this AO a few years ago.  Not having a great plan for the morning, YHC reverted to this workout from his pre F3 days.  This is how it went.

    COP:

Mosey to the Swamp parking lot for some SSHs, Russian Soldiers, DQs, and Helicopters.

    Triple Check on the Bleachers:

Mosey inside the Swamp to the bleachers for a modified triple check.

    • Round 1, member 1 = runs up the bleachers 3x, member 2 = Dips, member 3 = Merkins.
    • Round 2, member 1 = hops/jumps up the bleachers 1x, member 2 = LBCs, member 3 = lunge in place.
    • Round 3, member 1 = runs up 3x, member 2 = box jumps, member, 3 = railing crawls (you had to be there).

    Murph (just the location):

Indian run back to the playground behind BWE.  Partner up for pull ups.  10 reps, 2 sets.  Do as many as you can OYO, then assisted by the partner to 10.  Switch and repeat.  Flange crushed these without help.

    Modified Curb Crawl:

Mosey to the bus loop.  On 1 side, do 10 walk-out Merkins.  Bear Crawl to the other side, stand, and do 20 curb hops.  Crawl Bear back and repeat 3x.  About to puke on round 2, YHC was second-guessing the count.  However, Flange was already on round 3, so it was too late to audible.

    Indian Run:

Indian Run leaving BWE across the street to the top of the hill / cul-de-sac.  At the top, recover and reverse back to the flag (2 at a time).  The last 2 in the line race to the front.  YHC had the pleasure of losing to Doozy, then Rosie, then Tobit.  Nice job fellas.

    Ring of Fire

Hold Plank while each member performs their favorite Merkin x10. Respect to Rosie for doing airborne pushups.

    COT, Numberama, Namerama

    Announcements:

    • Field Day, May 11, at Dogpile.  SOJs uniform was discussed.  Reach out to Gumbo if you can make it.  Or just show up.

Everyone was impressed with Whiteboard’s fitness level.  Clearly not a couch potato.  YHC had to beg him to pump the brakes when taking the lead on the Indian Run.  Hope to see you soon, Whiteboard!

Thanks for coming out this morning, fellas.  You guys push me harder every day.

    Neigh, neigh!

  • Easter Egg Hunt

8 very curious men hopped out of bed on Good Friday and made it to Twin Team for an Easter Egg Hunt.  Much respect to Aggie who drove from Cville in the wee hours to introduce his Midlothian pal, Hawkeye (FNG), to F3RVA.

    COP:

Slow mosey 100 yards to the beginning of the bus loop for 10 SSHs, 10 Don Quixotes, and 10 Russian Soldiers.  Then, instructions were then given to perform 10 Merkins, 10 Jump Squats, and race around the bus loop, returning to the front of Bettie and hold Plank.

    The Thang (Easter Egg Hunt):

    Two teams were formed:

Team 1 – Rosie, Doozy, DK, and Aggie

Team 2 – Tobit, Hawkeye, Sugar Sock, and Bullesye

The following instructions were provided while the PAX held Plank.  Well, this is how they looked in my head.  It later became apparent that they weren’t verbalized so clearly.

    1. There were 8 stations in various locations within the standard AO footprint.
    2. Each team was provided a notecard with a hint about each of the 8 locations.
    3. Each station had a Ziploc bag under a soccer cone (to keep the wind from displacing the bag).
    4. Inside the bag was a notecard with exercises and 3 prizes.
    5. The prizes, which ranged in value, were a Peep (10 pts), a Robin Egg (5pts), and a Jelly Bean (1pt).
    6. Some stations were harder and contained more of the high-value prizes.
    7. The first team to arrive would take the highest value prize available and then perform the exercises.  This is where YHC may have been unclear.
    8. Each team could choose their own route and order to the stations.
    9. The objective was to collect as many prizes as possible (but preferably, just one from each station) and return to the Flag by 6:10.  The team with the most points would win.

The Hints / Stations and the exercises:

    • “Name of the AO” – This station was at the base of Twin Team.
      • 40 Merkins
      • 40 Jump Squats
      • 80 Mountain Climbers, 2 count
    • “Alaska” – A map of the USA is painted on the Bettie Weaver playground.
      • Tag all 4 of the basketball goals on the playground alternating Bear Crawl and Crawl Bear between each goal.
    • “The Murph” – On the playground where Honeymoon crushes us with the Murph
      • 20 pullups for each team member.  Assisted counts
    • “Swamp Entrance” – The JRHS football field is named the Swamp.
      • Run up the home team bleachers 10 times performing 15 dips between each run.
    • “JRHS Tennis” – Hope this one is obvious.
      • 4 corners (progressive / add on) around the inside of the tennis courts.
        • 10 HR Merkins
        • 20 Squats
        • 30 SSHs
        • 40 Mountain Climbers, 2 count
    • “High Above the Marching Band” – A two story platform at the edge of the parking lot where the marching band practices.
      • Run to the top of the platform 5 times each.
    • “JRHS” Fr. Circle” – The island in front of the high school main entrance.
      • 15 Walk-out Merkins
    • “JRHS Basketball (outdoors) – Obvious
      • 25 Jump Squats
      • 1 Suicide
      • Repeat 3x

Disclaimer – YHC, who was on Team 2, set the locations and knew the prize values but fully intended to allow Team 2 to find each cone without YHC’s help.

YHC would like to say that the well-planned workout ran smoothly.  However, it did not.  As Team 2 made its way Alaska, YHC noticed that the soccer cone and Ziploc were missing.  Knowing Döner Kebab very well, YHC immediately suspected trickery.  YHC owes DK an apology…

Laughing, but suspecting Team 1 was hiding the cones, Team 2 decided to pursue the stations in a different order.  This is where YHC may have helped with directions.

The hunt continued and each team made it to 6 or 7 of the 8 stations.  More than YHC anticipated.  Great job men.

Back to the Flag – At 6:10, both teams reported back to the flag for various Merkins, and just a little bit of ab work, followed by a Ring of Fire.  Because of the confusion, no winner was selected.  Participation trophies were handed out instead.

    No announcements

In planning the Easter Egg Hunt, I felt it could either be a huge success or a complete failure.  It appears to have landed somewhere in the middle.

In the post-workout conversation, it was determined that Team 1 wasn’t playing games by hiding the station cones.  Because the opening instructions weren’t so clear, Team 1 understood that they were to take all the prizes in the bag.  And to be helpful, they were collecting the cones and Ziplocs so YHC would have less clean up.

Thanks again to Aggie for his hour plus drive to join F3RVA and for introducing Hawkeye.  Thanks to the PAX for being good sports this morning.

    Happy Easter!
