  • The Gloom was Brighter!

    YHC knew today would be “super” and The Gloom would be pumped up for Hardywood is back in town. 13 Tried and True Super Troopers posted to see the sunrise but get a little work in before “work.” With Bodos sipping coffee and closing his car door at 0530, time to mosey.

    COP in front of the Carillon-Memorial Weekend approaching- and is goes a little something like this…. x 15 Copperhead Squats, x 43 SSH, x 20 Imperial Walkers, x 20 Box Cutters, x 44 LBC’s, x 10 Merkins. Mosey to the amphitheater.

    Lindsay-Starting at orchestra level, x 30 Freddie Mercuries and mosey to the top, x 10 SSH. Back down. x 25 Freddie’s and up for x 15 SSH. Rinse and repeat til x 10 Freddies’s and x 30 SSH. Finish up at the bottom. Mosey to the rusty cage.

    6 pack- x 1 pullup, x 5 merkins: x 2 pullups, x 4 merkins continue to x 5 pullups and 1 merkin than back to original starting count.

    The Coach- triple up. Partner 1 performs a pullup and than hangs. Partner 2 is Coaching to continue to hang, Partner 3 runs to the stage and back. Switch it up. Hanging partner runs, coach switches to pull up and hang, and running partner coaches. Switch and continue for 3 cycles!

    Mosey to Police Monument and plank. Moment of Silence for all those in uniform and IC x 10 Merkins. Extra credit and mosey back to the flag.

    Naked Mole Skin: Hardywood, glad to see you back in The Gloom. You have been missed. Grady, great to see you again in RVA from Raleigh. So, there was really not a lot of coaching, but hold one’s own body weight for an extended period will crush your shoulders and arms. Upchuck, thank you for the support on 6 pack. Swirly, glad things are on the mend with your M and family. Dr. Tryhard, Flipper’s work is outstanding for IT bands! It seems coffee in The Gloom is catching on!

    YHC wanted to honor all those wearing a uniform so a few more minutes were taken today. This weekend, take a minute and remember those in uniform and all those that paid the ultimate to allow us the freedom to work out at 0530!

  • Bird Strike? No, just a woodpecker!

    A Platoon of SOJ Roadrunners, 9 to be exact, posted to BWES to feel the warmth of RVA and get it all out! Route explained: Up Twin Team (but of course) to East Brigstock. 6 milers take E. Brigstock all the way to Winterfield (road does change to Netherfield for last 3/4 of mile) and back. 5 milers, E. Brigstock all the way till road name change, and back. 4 milers to bend in road, approx .5 miles, past Lake Patrick Henry, and back. Route did include traditional run by JRHS but that was not needed this morning. Mileage was spot on and time was short!

    Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Annoucements: Puppy Pile last Saturday in May, 6/1, 0700-see Marv. Orange Crush asking for prayers with college friend who past suddenly, only 43 with a family! Convergence, Memorial Day, at Tredegar, 0700!

    NMS: Rosie has always has a comment in the Gloom regarding YHC’s plans. Rosie took off up hill but Doozy caught up!! Way to track him down!! Mouse Trap, glad to introduce you to Twin Team this morning. It’s a great way to wake up! Gumbo, always a pleasure to share the road with you!! Lug my friend, RESPECT with your effort over the last 8 months!!!! Bullseye and Orange Crush, glad to see you circle back for the 6! Slumlord, way to work!!

    The Pax is again reminded of how precious life is! We are blessed and afforded the luxury to value 0530 and 0600! Each day we need to say thank you for the ability to fill air in our lungs and be a guiding light in the community. Honor ALL that have past with your memories and admiration that these people were part of your life!! Life is short so love it and as Doozy said, “You do you!” Hug your M’s and kids every day!!

  • No fields like the fields at No Toll

    19 SOJ Champions and 1 FNG surrounded the gloom this morning wanting to continue their quest for excellence and bask in the glory of victory after taking The Ghost Flag back at Field Day. 05:30:01, Wilson asked who had the Q. YHC responded and a snarky comment was made about being late. 5 burpees to start. Wilson commented again, well 5 more burpees. Quiet ensued. Time to Mosey….

    COP: x 10- Don Quixote’s, x 10 Russian Soldiers, x 25 SSH, x 15 Copperhead Squats, x 15 Box Cutters, x 20 LBC’s, x 10 Merkins, x 10 Booya Merkins. And done. Mosey over to the soccer fields

    Ascending 4 Corners: Corner 1, x 10 Merkins and run to Corner 2 for x 10 Merkins and x 20 LBC’s. Mosey to Corner 3 for x 10 Merkins, x 20 LBC’s, x 30 Squats and on to Corner 4. Corner 4-Merkins, LBC’s, Squats, and x 40 WW II situps. And now, Descending 4 Corners-x 40 WW II situps, x 30 Squats, x 20 LBC’s, x 10 Merkins. Mosey to Corner 3, exercise. Corner 2, exercise, and back to Corner 1 for x 10 Merkins. As the PAX noted, yes 80 WW II situps. Exicon does not mention it that way, but whatever.

    Partner Carries-partner up and down the length of the field and back. Lunges for those choosing not to wreck themselves!

    Mosey to the playground. In a vain attempt at a triple check-hop around the blacktop, swing jacks, and squats. Defined chaos leaning to total chaos, audible was called about halfway through. Too many PAX members and complete inversion to be being a kid again. To the basketball court.

    Modified Dora-cides: Partner up. x 150 LBC’s, x 250 Squats, x 350 SSH. Partner 1 runs suicides and Partner 2 completes exercises til all complete. Nice spirit race at the end between Don Draper and Flange.

    Mosey back to the flag. Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements: Summer Challenge is up: Memorial Day to Labor Day, visit all AO’s in RVA. Rumor has it there may be a patch for all that complete.

  • Sippy did Post!

    First to arrive at Batteau with Swirly jogging in and the Flag was planted. YHC forgot his watch so Shakedown alerted the Gloom, 0530. No Sippy Cup in site….time to mosey.

    Down the street to Forest Hill, along the sidewalk and almost able to place an order for coffee. COP-x 25 SSH, x 25 Imperial Walkers, x 10 Don Quixote’s, x 25 Freddie Mercuries, x 25 Flutter Kicks, x 25 Plank Jacks. Mosey back up the sidewalk to middle part of Forest Hill Park.

    11’s- Squats on side, run down hill and up hill to the other side, Merkins. Only variable, Bernie Sanders run, up hill to Merkins….aka backwards. So x 1 Squat, run, x 10 Merkins. Q handed over to Shakedown. Mosey to tennis courts. In honor of Shakedown’s first Hot Potato Q……

    Triple Check-Plerkins and Bear Crawls. One Pax Planks, one Pax member performs merkins with legs on planking members back, third Pax bear crawls to fence and back. Nice work to Soul Glo and Shakedown for making it work. Swirly handed the Q and over to the playground we moseyed.

    First exercise-Chazz Michael Michael= Partner up. Partner 1 grabs monkey bar and places legs over Partner 2 shoulder. Performs lat raises. Only Partner 2 is facing Partner 1. 3 sets of 5. Awkward!

    Second exercise: At playground border, x 15 dips, x 10 merkins. Repeat 3 times.

    Third Exercise: x 20 Swing Jacks (2 Swings available) while PAX performs step ups on picnic bench till swing available. Times up and mosey back to the flag. And there was Sippy Cup!

    NMS: 0525, Marv drives around and asks if anyone knows where a guy could work out. Marv parked at another lot. And, Swirly asked several times if anyone saw Sippy Cup on their way over. YHC was going to take Pax down to the lake from road facing Forest Hill but caution exercised due to poor lighting. And COP was there…different.

    Bleeder, hope you are only hurt and not injured! Those hill runs are no joke.

    Marv, YHC is definitely closer to you after Chazz Michael Michael exercise.

    Shakedown and Swirly, excellent workout this am! Soul Glo, keep up the hard work and cardio gets better!

    And as we returned to the flag, there was Sippy Cup….asking “Where were you guys?” Garmins are not all keeping the same time. Sorry, Sippy Cup, COP was in weird place this morning and 11’s quickly silenced mumblechatter. Next time COP will be delayed by 1 min because you are a regular Batteau Pax member!

  • A New Crew to Meet!

    A much shorter drive this morning to The AO with PAX members and FNG’s getting a sit rep from DTH regarding the myth and legend of F3 RVA. Virgin Q at this AO for YHC and a smile to go with, 14 gentlemen posted to The Forge and what an AO to work with!! 0530.. time to mosey.

    Down the hill to the back parking lot next to HHS for COP: x 10 Don Quixote’s, x 30 SSH, x 20 Copperhead Squats, x 20 Flutter Kicks, X 20 LBC’s, x 20 Freddie Mercuries, x 20 Imperial Walkers. Time to move!

    With the track off limits, legally, modified Merkin Mile called. Run out to the 5th light pole approx 400 m and back. 12 Merkins after each out and back and repeat x 4. Mosey to wall near tennis courts.

    Triple Check- partner up x 3. Exercise 1-run backwards up the ramp to stadium entrance, run forwards back. Exercise 2-Chicken Peckers. Exercise 3-Merkins. WWII’s while waiting for PAX to finish.

    Mosey back up the hill to the Flag.

    Naked Mole Skin: AO assessed yesterday afternoon and man, lots of ways to get crushed here. Hills aplenty and only 1/4 of the AO was assessed. This AO will have minimum mumblechatter once the workout starts.

    Dr. Tryhard, respect and congrats for EHing so many new PAX members. Awesome work and yes, the AO has an appropriate name!!

    To those new PAX members YHC met this morning-welcome to F3 RVA and keep posting. Yes, there is pain involved but it gets so much easier and the 2nd F is truly a blessing! Obvious you men already have the 3rd F! Sea-Doo (originally Kamikaze) YHC changed your name after talking with DTH and Tobit and you were gone-welcome. Same to Rocket and The Chaplain! YHC has never named 2 FNG’s before so 3 is super and made my day!!

    Lumbergh, way to push through triple check with just two of us. YHC sees your work!

    Tobit, Handshake, Sugar Sock, Don Draper-way to support a new AO! Your leadership and effort are commended!

  • Ground and Pound Til It’s All Out!

    0545 arrival time at Dogpile with AO secured by Bleeder. Shovel Flag planted in the ground with Breakfast Club rounding the turn. Kubota planted his flag and the PAX started to arrive. 28 Spring Loaded Men (1 FNG included) showed up to get it all out and see what the Q had in store…0600…time to mosey. Short jog to roundabout for COP: x 10 Don Quixote’s, x 20 SSH, x 5 Burpees, x 15 Flutter Kicks, and still mumblechatter so Q decided to start the fun.

    The Cooper: x 10 Burpees, x 10 Merkins, x 10 Squats and run a lap. Lap was down the hill at Pump House and back up to the roundabout. Repeat exercise with one less rep, x 9 Burpees, x 9 Merkins, x 9 Squats, run a lap. Repeat and continue down to x 1 Burpee, x 1 Merkin, x 1 Squat and a final lap. While waiting for PAX continue, flutter kicks, LBC’s, and Iron Cross were enjoyed by the PAX. PAX picked up the 6 and moseyed to The Lawn.

    Field of Dreams: teams of 4 partnered up and exercise explained. Corner 1 (Home Plate), Corner 2 (First Base), Corner 3 (Second Base), Corner 4 (Third Base). Each partner went to a base. Home Plate performed 15 Burpees and ran to first-first to second-second to third- third to home. While on the bases, first base did merkins, AMRAP. Second base, LBC’s, AMRAP. Third base, Squats, AMRAP. Run all bases till all partners had performed 15 Burpees. Mosey down to the other side of The Lawn.

    Merkin Ladder: Run 50 yds, x 20 Merkins. Run back to the start, x 19 Merkins and repeat til 0 Merkins required. With time constraint, audible called however, Swirly crushed it and completed the ladder!

    With time to spare, a Q favorite-AYG spirit the distance of The Lawn.

    And mosey back to the flag and Puppy Pile welcoming us back!

    Naked Mole Skin: The Q heard the mumblechatter in COP and decided to start the work out so all that energy could be expunged out. Most all exercises can be found in the exicon. YHC will add “The Cooper” to the vault and takes up approx 30 minutes!

    YHC wanted to work out Field of Dreams on baseball field at RLL but ran out of time. Time constraints and several PAX members were upset at the distance already run!!

    Swirly, respect for finishing Merkin Ladder! Archive that one too!

    Take Out, welcome to The PAX and F3RVA! Hardest thing to do=get out of bed! Keep posting and the workouts get easier…..well kinda! Glad you made it this morning!

    Gentlemen, yes YHC gets emotional some times. Life is not easy nor is it fair! And we all have battles and scars that shape us. But this group and what we do, what we stand for is SUPER and POWERFUL! YHC has had a roller coaster month but being at The Gloom and having these workouts makes my day better!! HANDS DOWN!! Embrace that power and continue to be awesome, striving to make a difference!

  • You Just Need To Run

    7 SOJ Front Men arrived to enjoy a spring morning run knowing today would be long with a 2120 Tipoff in store.

    Route=Tarrington Run and circle JRHS and back to the flag!

    NMS: Rosie and Gumbo having been logging miles so easy pace this morning. Doozy was out leading the pack but Rosie tracked him down on THE HILL! Bullseye, Orange Crush, and Lug Nut=solid pace and run this morning.

    YHC has missed the gloom for 2 weeks going from Guatemala to C’ville and to Williamsburg and a whole host of emotions in between!! Monday am, YHC needed the PAX and the gloom!

    This wonderful country gives us the freedom to choose! F3RVA chooses to push ourselves mentally, physically, and spiritually and I am grateful and blessed for that! Men, life is short so hug’em and kiss’em whenever you can!

  • Poles, Grind a Tree, and Dolla Bills Yo

    18 Sharp Dudes arrived in The Gloom, anticipating Dr. Tryhard and his Q but surprised when YHC announced Dr. Tryhard filed a workers comp claim and succumbed to the plague. Polite audible called, Hot Potato Q. 0530-lets go!

    COP- x 20 Imperial Walkers, x 30 SSH, x 15 Cotton Pickers, x 15 Invisible Jump Rope, x 20 Rosalita’s, x 20 Freddie Mercuries, x 20 Plank Jacks, x 10 Merkins. Mosey to The Lawn…

    50 and 50…..partner up for partner carries and exercise. Partner 1 takes 50 steps while carrying partner 2 than each partners performs 25 WW II situps. Switch and repeat. Down the lawn and back.

    Q handed over to Faceplant. Mosey over wooden posts that line the entrance. Each PAX member faces wooden post in plank position, performs x 5 Merkins and runs to the end of the line. Indian Run with Merkins. Entire PAX completes than reverse back down the line with WWII situps.

    Q handed over to Handshake. Mosey to the stage and partner up. Decelerating touch a tree. Partner 1 touches 10 trees, partner 2 SSH. Switch, Repeat, touching 8 treees and Burpees, 6 and Merkins, 4 and Flutter Kicks, 2 and Squats.

    Q handed to Abba. Mosey back to the flag. Abba concocted Merkin Wave, x 3 revolutions around the circle. Basically, each PAX member does 1 Merkin with the appearance of the crowd pleasing, stadium loving wave.

    BOOM, 0615!

    Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements: Growruck this weekend. Happy Hour Friday night at Triple Crossing. Saturday Dogpile begins at 700. Breakfast Club starts at 0600 with a quick workout till 0630 than our Glory Run to Dogpile. Assistance is needed Saturday night for supply van and logistics for Growruck. See Honeydo or Shakedown.

    NMS: Dr Tryhard is down, but considering he has survived this long, in the faces of all those <18 yrs, God Bless. Maybe he RX’d himself some Tamiflu.

    14 No Toll Veterans arrived this morning to a lights out parking lot and a full moon. Nothing could keep the PAX from starting the day out in a pure awesome way. 0530…let’s mosey

    COP- x 20 Seal Jacks, x 20 SSH, x 15 Russian Soldiers, x 15 Copperhead Squats, x 20 Box Cutters, x 20 Rosalita’s, x 20 LBC’s, x 10 Merkins, x 10 Booyah Merkins. Enough. Mosey over to the soccer fields

    The Spartan- Run the length of the field. After the run, 30 Merkins. Repeat 10 times.

    Partner Up. PLT’s, 200. Complete in any number count necessary between partners.

    Mosey to the basketball court for Mary: x 31 American Hammers, x 31 LBC’s, x 31 Rosalita’s.

    Slaughter Finish. 20 Burpees OYO. But with 2 mins left, plank and alternate from 6 inches to a merkin, back to 6 inchs and a merkin. And done. Mosey back to the flag.

    NMS: No lights at No Toll. O well, that did not stop the PAX from crushing the workout. Mr. Roper, YHC is amazed at your verbal skills during a workout. Glad to hear you got out of Colorado but also had fun!

    The Spartan was found last week on the Lexicon. Perfect for YHC MO, according to Rosie, run a lot, and do 1 exercise a lot. BOOM. Love The Spartan! Rosie and Ollivander-RESPECT on perfect form for all 300.

    Thank you for following this morning men. The PAX that YHC has come to know at all AO’s are true friends and ones that will be there, if YHC ever needs anythings. But No Toll is YHC’s home-SOUTHSIDE!! A true blessing and YHC is grateful! Continue to be the beacon of light, always!

  • Beach time is right around the corner.

    13 Gentlemen arrived to 45MOM this morning in hopes that a workout would start their day in the most positive of directions….0529 50 secs….time to mosey.

    The PAX took off with the Q right in the middle…..um, maybe they can read minds. Within 200 yds, Q kept running down the sidewalk with PAX looking for direction. 3/4 mosey around the block of Mary and to the blacktop for COP= x 10 Don Quixote’s, x 20 SSH, x 15 Seal Jacks, x 15 Copperhead Squats, x 15 Box Cutters, x 15 Flutter Kicks, x 10 Merkins, x 10 Booyah Merkins. Done…and mosey to the field.

    Red Barchetta= PAX lined up for instructions. Run 100 yds and perform 100 SSH, back to the line. Run 75 yrds, perform 75 Mountain Climbers, back to the line. 50 yd run, 50 LBC’s, back. 25 yd run, 25 Merkins, back. 10 yd run, 10 Burpees.

    Partner up and each partner performs 100 Wilson’s Dying Cockroach. Any increment you want but gotta finish 100.

    Super 21……Q favorite. 1 WWII situp, 1 Merkin. 2 WWII situps, 2 Merkins…..and so all the way to 21. IC too. Due to time constraints. audible called for situps at 20 and 21 to LBC’s AYO but Merkins were IC. Had to finish. Mosey back to the flag.

    Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements: Honeydo needs assistance with logistics for Growruck next weekend (driving the supply wagon) in one of the later shifts. Next Friday night is Happy Hour somewhere in RVA. Watch for preblast. Dogpile is 0700 on Saturday, 3/23 with Dredd leading. Breakfast Club will leave ET’s at 0630. ALL F3 MEN INVITED TO BREAKFAST CLUB!
