A PAX of four posted for Punisher. YHC arrived a couple of minutes late and found the crew completing a lap in the parking lot. We gathered briefly and moved into the grass near the parking lot and completed 25 x Imaginary Jump Ropes, 15 x Imperial Walkers, 15 x Don Quixotes, 15 x Helicopters, 15 x Russian Soldiers, 15 x Shoulder Taps, 10 x Suzanne Somers (each side), and 15 x Alabama Prom Dates.

Mosey west across Hermitage and along Laburnum, stopping at almost every streetlight (perhaps a dozen) for 16 Merkins per stop. Halted at the Rosedale Christmas Light display along Laburnum. The lights are great, but tuning a radio to a low-power temporary station enables musical accompaniment. YHC’s crank powered emergency radio now only works with continuous cranking – no good. Found and tried to use an old iPod mini with FM tuner – no good. Downloaded a radio app on mobile phone that offered the appearance of a radio tuner, but that didn’t actually tune in stations. Without FM, we observed silently for a few moments before moseying further west.

We headed into an office parking lot just past the Interstate for Twelve Days of Christmas – 1 rep of 1 exercise in a parking space, move to the next space and complete 2 reps of another exercise and the 1 rep of the first exercise – and so on. Sequence was 12 x LBCs, 11 x Flutter Kicks, 10 x SSHs, 9 x Pickle Pounders, 8 x Jump Squats, 7 x Hello Dollys, 6 x Rosalitas, 5 x APDs, 4 x Side Lunges, 3 x Close Grip Merkins, 2 x Crab Cakes, and 1 Burpee.

Return east on Laburnum. Three Monkey Humpers at each streetlight between the Interstate on ramp and the end of the Episcopal Church property. Mosey back to the lot. COT and YHC took us out.

Punisher with Pub time next Monday, 12/23. Be there. Thanks guys.

  • Field trip

Two of us posted for last week’s Punisher. Mosey from the parking lot and into the grass for Circle of Pain with some of the usual. Continue our Mosey off campus – east on Laburnum, south on Chatham, and bear east at the median on Wilmington. At the first tree, complete 5 Merkins. At the second, complete 5 Squats. Back to a chest exercise for the next tree and then a leg exercise at the one after. Chest rotation of Merkins, Wide Grip Merkins, Close Grip Merkins, and Carolina Dry Docks. Leg rotation of Squats, Forward Lunges, Backward Lunges, and Side Lunges. Mosey between trees, looping around the end of the median at Gloucester to head back to Hermitage, and a loop back at Hermitage to Chatham.

Jog back to the school grounds and stop at the outdoor classroom. Dips x 20 on picnic table seats then Mary reps on the table tops. Five sets, all with Dips, but working through Reverse Crunches, Rosalitas, Flutter Kicks, Box Cutters, and LBCs.

Mosey to the playground. Five rounds of ten second flexed arm hangs followed by Plank medley – holding for 20 seconds and resting for about 10 – with Regular, Right Hand High, Left Hand High, Right Hand Behind, Left Hand Behind, Regular, and Elbows. COT and YHC took us out.

  • You know Dasher…

Three PAX posted for the first Punisher of December at the usual time of 6 PM Eastern and two hours before the network TV broadcast of a 1964 (respect) holiday-themed, stop motion animation program involving a reindeer. Initial mosey under the trees for COP with Imaginary Jump Ropes, DQs, Hillbillies, Cherry Pickers, Helicopters, and Arm Circles.

Jog to the eastern edge of the front school yard for Triple Check alternating Al Gores, Reverse Planks, and weaving around the holly bushes and back.

Mosey around the school to the outside wall of the second grade classrooms for sequence involving 10 rounds of 5 Donkey Kicks, 5 single count Crab Cakes, and 5 Carolina Dry Docks – Al Gore between sets.

Saunter to the swingset for Jerkin “ring of fire”. While hanging under a swing, the first guy completes 1 Jerkin while the others hold in flexed Jerkin position. Rotate through until each have completed 1. Recover briefly. Same approach, but add 1 rep each round until all have completed 7 reps.

Jog to the sidewalk at the eastern edge of the school property for sidewalk Mary. Pick a sidewalk square and complete 5 Reverse Crunches. Hop up and move to the next available square heading south and complete 5 Hello Dollys. Up, move, and drop for 5 Box Cutters. Keep moving along the sidewalk, alternating these three exercises. Halted at the southern end of the bus loop for time. COT and YHC took us out.

  • Physically rigid, procedurally flexible

A PAX of five made it out to Pouncey Tract Park for the final GridIron for November 2019. Move the greetings circle 25 yards southwest to the edge of the parking lot for warm up with 25 x Side Straddle Hops, 15 x Don Quixotes, 15 x Imperial Walkers, 15 x Helicopters, 10 x Suzanne Somers (each side), 15 x Alabama Prom Dates, and various Arm Circles.

Shift off of the parking lot and into the end zone of the adjacent football field – knock out 25 x Merkins. Line up on the goal line for leg ladder – jog to the 10 yard line, complete 10 Squats, and jog back. Mosey to the 20 yard line, complete 20 x Side Lunges (each way), and mosey back. Continue with 30 Squats at the 30, 40 Side Lunges at the 40, and 50 Squats at the 50. Complete another set of 25 Merkins. Work back down the ladder and follow with 25 Merkins. Run back and forth to the 20 yard line for a little over 5 minutes. Finish with 25 more Merkins.

Move to the fence line of the nearby baseball field. At the fence pole nearest the vehicle access, drop and complete 1 Little Baby Crunch. Move to the next pole, heading in the general direction of the outfield fence, drop, and complete 2 LBCs. Continue, moving between poles in whatever manner desired, adding an LBC at each pole. At the corner post we completed 25 Merkins (plus 3 more f and made the turn in continuing our LBC trek. Around pole 35, enthusiasm waned (had planned on looping the entire field), so we turned around and, via Lunge Walk, moved back around the field and completed a few Burpees in the process. Circle for brief stretch and finish with COT with YHC taking us out.

Johnsonville pulled something during our 20 yard shuttles (there is value in the disclaimer), but however pained, seemed to regain some mobility. Luckily he had four other guys, lacking in proper training, to offer medical advice. Offshore pushed for a Merkin count suitable for the final day of the November Merkin challenge. Nice work all. Coffee @ Einstein’s followed.

  • 100% Bipedal

Two arrived on foot for the most recent Punisher. Mosey to the western edge for startup COP with SSHs, IWs, DQs, Russian Soldiers, Suzanne Somers, and APDs. Move to the school wall for two-man Triple Check – three rounds, but two exercises – alternating People’s Chair and mosey to Hermitage Road and back.

Jog to the outdoor classroom for 11s with Dips and Bench Kicks. Mosey to the playground for 7s with Pull Ups and Derkins. Slide to the soccer field for 10 rounds of 5 Merkins and 15 LBCs.

Mosey south along bus loop to the front yard. Complete another 10 rounds of Merkins and LBCs. Heading to the front school wall, one man Bear Crawls while the other moseys about 10 paces and runs back. Tag and switch. Another two-man Triple Check from front wall with Wall Plank and a run to Laburnum Avenue and back. COT in place with YHC taking us out. Stroll home.

  • Add title

Four assembled for this evening’s Punisher. Mosey to the western side of the school for the startup Quadrilateral of Pain with Mountain Climbers, Rosalitas, Suzanne Somers(es), and Don Quixotes (no SSHs and no Arm Circles).

Short mosey near the outdoor classroom for Progressive Alphabet. On our backs, we trace the letter A with our feet then hop up and jog to the edge of the garden (about 25 yards) and back. On our backs again for A and B, then run. And so on until A through Z completed.

Stroll to the edge of the school’s driveway. Complete 10 Merkins at the streetlight, jog as a group to the next streetlight heading north up Hermitage Road and complete 10 more Merkins. Continue north on Hermitage to Claremont, cross Hermitage, and head south, completing 10 Merkins at each light. Stopped at 20 lights total.

Mosey back across Hermitage to the side of the school for Squat Ring of Fire. One guy holds a low Squat while the others, in Al Gore position, count down from 30. Make one round then return to the parking lot for the Square of Trust and YHC took us out. Thanks Lockjaw for the backblast title.

  • New skins, old wine

A half dozen posted at the southern end of the Libbie Mill Library parking lot for the temporarily relocated GridIron. We exited our vehicles prior to the start time, probably due to some enthusiasm for temporary new grounds, and tried to ignore the cutting northeast wind.

Advertised as a Hot Potato affair, we followed through with this and everyone had a go. Chum Bucket started with a mosey to the wind-shielded loading dock of the library for the startup COP with SSHs, DQs, Russian Soldiers, and Arm Circles. Moved into a nearby field for five round rotation of 10 Merkins and 10 two count Freddy Mercuries. Hop up and Lunge Walk until time to tag.

Byproduct took round 2 and ran us south to the grassy area south of the library parking lot. Completed traditional Jack Webb with Merkins and unweighted Overhead Presses. Remained in place and partnered for two rounds of PLTs. Lunge Walk for remaining few minutes.

Tater ran us down the hill and along the creekside trail. We stopped at a couple of new exercise stations. At the first one, we completed a couple of rounds of Dips alternated with Derkins. At the second one, we completed several rounds of Pull Ups and Chin Ups.

White Deer brought us back along the trail to the high point of the hill and had us pull large rocks from the drainage basin. We tossed these stones into the nearby grass, Bear Crawled to the tossed stone, and tossed it again. After a couple of rounds of this, we turned and worked our way back, tossing a few more times and completing Overhead Presses, Weighted Squats, and Curls a couple of times, too. We returned our stones to the basin.

Attila took us back to the library via mosey. We completed some Pickle Pounders adjacent to the library building and resumed our mosey to the middle of the parking lot where, after a round of Tracers, we completed Burpees in each space across one column of parking followed by WWII Sit Ups, then we repeated the same.

Johnsonville finished at the loading dock with a triple check involving People’s Chair, Merkins, and a mosey down the parking lot and back. We returned to the vehicles, circled up, and Attila took us out.

Coffee at Crafted in the Libbie Mill development afterwards. Good food and coffee and the heating system works well. Most of us hit Fauquier Avenue in the City’s Bellevue neighborhood where we saw Blue Moon at mile 22 of his marathon. Nice work pushing through Blue Moon. The extended fellowship was fun. Johnsonville makes a nice Bloody Mary. Sorry if I missed something guys.

  • PREBLAST – Marathon Day Modification for GridIron

PREBLAST – Marathon Day Modification for GridIron

GridIron regular and all around good guy Blue Moon will be running his first full marathon on Saturday. GridIron will be relocated to Libbie Mill Library for marathon Saturday only with a 7:30 AM start and, as usual, a 1 hour run time. Hot potato Q planned. Will follow with some coffee and heat at nearby Crafted.

Those that are interested will head after coffee to the marathon course for race viewing. We are planning to informally meet up in the median strip near the 3800 block of Fauquier Avenue. Best access – avoid race course interaction by taking Interstate 95 north to the Hermitage Road exit, going left on Westbrook Avenue after the exit, taking a right on Brook Road, and somewhere near Bellevue Avenue (the next stoplight on Brook Road), take a right into the neighborhood and park on the street somewhere.

Anyone else running the half or full? We’ll look for you. Text or call Chum Bucket or Johnsonville with questions.

  • Moonlit Monday

Under a full moon, a PAX of five posted for the most recent Punisher. The Holton E.S. parking lot was almost full when YHC arrived, but mostly due, apparently, to evening parent-teacher conferences in the building. We moseyed out of the lot and under the oak trees for the start-up PentagonOP with 28 x Imaginary Jump Ropes (corrected Honey Do), 15 x Don Quixotes, 15 x Hillbillies, 10 x Susan Somers (each side), 15 x Alabama Prom Dates, and 10 x Arm Circles (big only, forward, then reverse).

Move near the school’s security light for 10 minute exercise sequence. Start with 3 x Burpees and follow with 15 x Side Straddle Hops and recover for the rest of the minute. Realizing there was too much time left in the minute, we made slight adjustments. After round 3, increased Burpees per minute to 5. After round 1, increased SSHs to 20, and then to 25 after about round 3. Finished most rounds with 5 / 25 reps.

Mosey to the back playground. Pull Up on the bars and hold for five seconds then drop and complete 10 x Box Cutters. Plank until all are done. Repeat. Five total rounds.

Jog around to the outdoor classroom. Complete 20 x Dips followed by 20 x Bench Kicks. Reverse Plank on bench (upright Dip position). Repeat. Three rounds.

Saunter to the school wall, also well lit by another security light, for another 10 minute sequence with 5 x Donkey Kicks followed by 10 x Merkins. Hop up and finish the minute in People’s Chair. Ten rounds completed.

Drop to the nearby ground for Crunch medley – 25 x Regular, 25 x Right Leg Straight, 25 x Left Leg Straight, 25 x Reverse Crunches, and 25 x Both Legs Straight. Stretch for a few. Hop up and COT in place and YHC took us out.

Great to see you guys. Immediate data credit, Dial Up. Thanks for the rolling Merkin count, Offshore. Good seeing you Honey Do and the beard appears to be coming in nicely. Get some sleep EF Hutton. Have a good week.

  • Just Like 0530

A pair of us gathered for the first Punisher post-clock change. Both of us arrived on foot, but met in the parking lot anyway. Startup COP under the oaks with some of the usual exercises. Shifted from the grass to the wall for a Double Check with People’s Chair and mosey to Laburnum and back. Move back into the grass for Super 21 with Merkins and Reverse Crunches. Quick jog into the bus loop for leg medley with Squats and Lunges. “C”OT at end of bus loop before ambling back home.
