  • Patient, first

A PAX seven strong posted on a windy, unseasonably warm Saturday morning for Gridiron.  The message stream pre- and post-workout is strong among the Gridiron regulars.  Leading into Saturday morning, though, several regulars anticipated absence due to illness – except Attila who posted anyway.

Cecil led a pre-game, 3rd F conversation about love.  Cecil, Dark Horse, Attila, and Byproduct were seated at the picnic pavilion with YHC arrived.  There was another car in the parking lot from which, shortly after YHC arrived, Lip Sync and JJ (FNG) hopped out and joined the group.  We circled up in the parking lot and began with SSHs x 25, Don Quixotes x 15, Imperial Walkers x 15, Russian Soldiers x 15, Arm Circles – big only – 15 forward and 15 reverse, and Monkey Humpers x 15.

Mosey to the lower football field for the 13 Acres Baker’s Dozen.  YHC has called this a couple of times at The Punisher.  The AO for The Punisher is located on the former 13 Acres site.  This sequence involves 13 rounds of 13 exercises.  Within each round, we’d complete 13 reps of one exercise and 7 reps of the others.  The line up included, in order, Merkins, Squats, LBCs, Wide-Grip Merkins, Front Lunges, Hello Dollys, Diamond Merkins, Back Lunges, Flutter Kicks, Carolina Dry Docks, Jump Squats, Box Cutters, and Invisible Jump Ropes.  For the most part, the full hour allowed completion according to script but for making the lunges single count in the last few rounds and combining the 12th and 13th rounds due to time running out.  Jog back to the parking lot for COT and Attila took us out.

Nice work fellas.  It was a pleasure.  Nice job working through the crud, Attila.  Hope our other brothers are recovering.

Lip Sync was in Richmond from F3 Raleigh.  FNG JJ (Jimmy) lives in Richmond and was headlocked by Lip Sync.  Welcome to Gridiron guys.

  • Missing links

Merry Christmas all.  There was no Christmas Day Punisher.

YHC apologizes to my brothers for breaking convention, but this post includes details on two past Punisher offerings – from December 11th and December 18th.

A PAX of two posted for the December 11th version of The Punisher.  Sonny and I left our houses and arrived separately at the AO.  Mosey to the front of the school for the initial COP with SSHs, Don Quixotes, Imperial Walkers, and Arm Circles.  Head around the school to the bus loop for a Dora 1-2-3, taking turns completing 100 x Incline Merkins, 200 x Squats, and 300 x Hello Dollys.  Jog to the playground for three rounds of 3 x Pullups and 15 x LBCs.  Relocate to a flat bench near the playground for ladder with Dips and Seated Knee Ups starting at 11 and working down.  Mosey back around the school to the edge of the parking lot for a couple of minutes of plank and stretching.  Return to the parking lot for COT and YHC took us out.

Was solo for December 18th.  Warmup in the front schoolyard followed by a couple of laps around the field.  Mosey to the playground for Pullups and LBCs involving laps around the playground.  Jog to the butterfly pavilion for a couple of Lindsay rounds – Dips and Step Ups, then Incline Pushups and Front Lunges.  Move to the school wall for Plank and People’s Chair rotation.  Head back around to the frond schoolyard for Walking Imperial Walkers with Invisible Jump Rope ladder.  Return to the parking lot.

Looking forward to increased attendance at The Punisher in 2018.  Attendance has been modest, but the time shift has brought out some new guys that had not previously attended F3 workouts.

  • Ginter Park saunter

Social events and sickness limited attendance at The Punisher to one this week.  After a little warmup in the school yard, YHC completed a mosey around southern Ginter Park and ended with some exercises on the playground equipment behind the school.  Expect attendance to at least double for next week.

  • Pants optional

Seven GridIron regulars gathered for Saturday’s offering.  Game time temperatures of around 32 degrees didn’t halt progress.   Cecil led off with a 3rd F conversation (combined with the 2nd F, of course) concerning perseverance.

We followed with this Thang:  70 x Invisible Jump Rope, 20 x Don Quixote, 20 x Russian Soldiers, and 15 x Arm Circles (big only, forward then reverse).  Mosey to the playground for 10 x Jerkins and 25 x Pole Smokers/PLTs.  Complete 4 rounds.

Jog across the nearby bridge to the entry point for the trail.  Complete 10 Burpees then jog into the woods via trail.  Lead PAX member runs at least 20 paces, selects a tree, and all drop and complete 25 LBCs.  Repeat, with each PAX member leading for a short time and completing the same.  Pop out of the trail behind the school and complete 10 Burpees then return to the trail, completing the same exercises back to the beginning.  Hop off the trail once more for 10 more Burpees.  Lost count but all probably led twice at 25 LBCs each time – resulting in about 350 LBCs total.

Return the starting parking lot.  Pick a parking space for a couple of rounds of exercises.  First round – 15 seconds of Bear Crawl followed by 15 x Merkins, 15 x Squats, and 15 x Box Cutters.  Second round – 15 seconds of Crab Walk followed by 15 x Close Grip Merkins, 15 x Front Lunges (single count), and 15 x Hello Dollys.  Third round – 15 seconds of Roving Monkey Humpers followed by 15 x Wide Grip Merkins, 15 x Curtsy Lunges, and 15 x Rosalitas.  One quick round of Shoulder Taps, then some quick stretching until time called.

COT and Attila (if I remember correctly) took us out.

Nice work guys.  Coffeeteria at Einstein Bros. followed.

  • Motorcycle hero

Two of us posted for The Punisher this week under dry conditions and temperatures in the mid-50s, surely warmer than for Monday’s morning workouts.  We set out from the parking lot at 6:30 PM and moseyed to the Laburnum Avenue side of Holton Elementary and began this Thang:  Startup COP with 20 x Invisible Jump Ropes, 15 x Imperial Walkers, 15 x Don Quixotes, 15 x Hillbillies, and Arm Circles as per usual.

Began variation of 4 corners from the same side of the school.  Jog to the school wall for 5 Mountain Climbers.  Move to the edge of the outdoor classroom and add 10 Carolina Dry Docks to the 5 MCs.  Mosey to the Laburnum Avenue sidewalk and add 15 Squats.  Move to the next street light and add 20 SSHs.  Plank until PAX is reassembled.  Continue back around the square dropping off the top exercise until final 20 SSHs are done.

Jog to the gravel driveway on Laburnum and complete 3 Merkins per tree, Lunge Walking in between, along the property edge heading back to the main parking lot entrance.

Mosey to the school wall for a couple of rounds of Double Check – one of us held People’s Chair while the other jogged to Laburnum and back.  Switch, then repeat.  Additional round with Dead Cockroach.

Stroll to the outdoor classroom for 11s involving Dips and LBCs.  Quick stretch sequence immediately followed, then mosey back to the parking lot.  COT.

    Nice work Ghost Rider.

  • Even later

Four posted for the 11/13 offering of the evening Punisher.  We assembled in the front parking lot, first YHC and Earthworm, followed by Ghost Rider (FNG Will Martin) and then Nightcrawler.

Mosey to the front school yard for initial COP with 20 x SSHs, 15 x IWs and Don Quixotes, and 15 x Arm Circles (big and small and forward and reverse).

Jog to the outdoor classroom for 11/13/17.  Complete two exercises per round, including 13 of one chest exercise and 17 of a leg or ab exercise, for 11 rounds.  After each round, jog a small loop around the butterfly shaped garden beds.  Chest exercises included Merkins, Wide Grip Merkins, Incline Merkins, Carolina Dry Docks, and Dips.  Leg/ab exercises included Squats, Curtsy Lunges, Lunges, Step Ups, and Mountain Climbers.

Return to the northern edge of the parking lot for a couple of minutes of Mary and some stretching.

Return to the parking lot for COT and YHC took us out.

Sorry Earthworm, Nightcrawler, and Ghost Rider for not posting sooner.  Welcome Ghost Rider.

    Punisher tonight at 6:30 PM.

  • Better late than never

A PAX of two posted for the most recent evening Punisher.  Sonny and I rode our Huffys over to the school and completed the following:  COP with 20 x SSHs, IWs, DQs, and Helicopters, then Arm Circles.  Mosey to the grassy front yard for Merkin Ladder – 21 reps down to 1 rep.  Started reps at one large tree and ran to another large tree for the next set – back and forth through the ladder.

Broke up the action after every four rounds with little Double Check – one guy completes an exercise at the school wall while the other runs towards the Laburnum Avenue sidewalk and returns.  Completed People’s Chair, Box Cutters, Flutter Kicks, Hello Dollys, and Squats.

Brief stretching session then return to the bicycles for COT.  YHC took us out.

  • Dispatch from the wilderness

YHC posted for The Punisher solo.  Nightcrawler and Sonny each sent messages before post time indicating unexpected obligations with Ms and or 2.0s.  The notice was appreciated.  YHC took a run through Ginter Park that consumed the 45 minutes, mixing in some Merkins and Squats along the way and completing some Burpees in the parking lot adjacent to Zacharias Ganey.  COT including silent namerama and numberama and took myself out.

Sticking to the evening time slot.  Send your Night Owl neighbors.  Do your Merkins.

  • Night time is the right time

Three now-regulars to the evening trial of The Punisher posted for this week’s edition.  Sonny and YHC met in front of our houses to bicycle over to the AO and as we were lashing our cycles to a Laburnum Avenue-adjacent lamp post, Nightcrawler pulls into the parking lot – this time not having to pull away from a work event to partake.

The Thang:  Mosey to the front school yard for startup COP with 25 x SSHs, 20 x Don Quixotes, 20 x Imperial Walkers, 20 x Helicopters, and 15 x Arm Circles (in the typical way).  Relocate nearby for a Beast from parking lot to Monticello Avenue and back with usual number of reps and stops for Carolina Dry Docks, Squats, Box Cutters, Alternating Shoulder Taps (two count), Step-Behind Alternating Lunges (two count), and Flutter Kicks (yep, two count).  Move to a spot adjacent to the school wall for Bear Crawl, Zombie Walk, Bear Crawl along the edge of the school x 2.

Mosey to the back playground for short Pull Up ladder – 1 rep up to 3 reps and back down – with 5 x Merkins, 5 x Squats, and 10 x LBCs after each rep.  Head back around the school for a couple of minutes of stretching then return to the parking lot for COT.  YHC took us out.

Though still a little odd to be starting a workout at Holton in the evening, the timing seems to work – no apparent conflicts with school activities.  Turns out you can see as well in evening darkness as you can in early morning darkness.

  • PM Punishment

Two F3 regulars and one FNG posted for the new evening edition of The Punisher.  We assembled in the front parking lot and started promptly at 18:45 PM with the following Thang:  Mosey to the side yard for startup COP with 20 x Invisible Jump Ropes, 15 x Don Quixotes, 15 x Imperial Walkers, 15 x Helicopters, and 15 x Arm Circles (to and fro).

Mosey further to the outdoor classroom for Lindsays with Incline Merkins and Flutter Kicks. Finish and head to the school wall for Triple Check with People’s Chair, Elbow Plank, and jog to the totem pole and back.  Return to the pavilion for second Lindsay with Dips and Hello Dollys.  Return, then, to the school wall for a second Triple Check with Upright Wall Plank, Squats, and jog around the nearest bush with one Burpee thrown in.

Follow with an AMRAP involving 10 x Carolina Dry Docks, 10 x Squats, 10 x Mountain Climbers, and 10 x LBCs – targeted completion of at least 6 rounds.  Mosey a short distance and circle up for brief stretching sequence.

Mosey to the virtual ShovelFlag for COT with Numberama and Namerama.  YHC took us out.

Moleskin:  The move to the evening seemed to work fine.  The AO wasn’t too busy.  It seems a permanent move to nighttime may work fine.  There are plenty of other workout choices on Monday mornings.  Good to see Nightcrawler – think this was his first Punisher post.  An F3 welcome to Ray Flournoy who we named Sonny (as in Jorgensen).
