  • Strange sightings

With more than a bit of trepidation, Lab Rat took the Q after chatting with Opus and Phonics at the Friday football game. Five strong made the agreement that this very well might turn in to a “clipboard” Q, but it turned out ok. Old standby exercises were the order of the day, but a weird cloud formation made the early morning worth it. Turns out we just missed a rocket launch from Wallop’s Island and the “cloud formation” was the remnants of that launch.

  • 5 regs minus 2 new guys

I had the headlock on a recent new guy to the area I met at the frisbee game Sunday….thought I had a hard commit but I guess I was wrong. Oh well, still had 5.

We did a Beast on the gridiron. It was awesome.

Sorry to the 4 others that I am late getting this up. A toilet exploded on the 12th floor at work and water flows downward. It also does not play well with electrical things.

  • The Mumblechatter was Deafening

8 Chatty Kathy’s showed up this morning to celebrate Veteran’s Day with Lab Rat.

COP- Hitchhiker got a new TV it appears. Bodos gets like 200 channels without cable, most are some form of PBS…Wayne’s World comes in clear as day. I hear Ted Lasso is a good show!

4 corners- Submarines aren’t named after fish…the good ones are named after cities and states. Korea gets cold sometimes! Saab re-watched Clerks again, he enjoyed it.

Triple Check- Discussed benefits of Hulu vs. Apple TV vs. Netflix.

Salute to Veterans- 5 burpees for each veteran in attendance (Lab Rat and Hitch), then 5 merkins for a veteran of choice presented by each pax member.

8 minutes of Mary- Who would be in Squid Games 2 if/when it comes out? Also, if you haven’t watched Squid Games 1, you MAY be racist…not definitively…you might just be simple minded.

Lab Rat got to get a word in at the end to take us out. Thank a veterinarian today. If you don’t personally know one, Shakedown is standing in.

Apology of the week goes to HoneyDo, since I said Hardywood was a vet meaning HoneyDo. Or, is that a “You’re welcome”?

    Lab Rat apologizes…

  • Almost anniversary/birthday/Swiper’s anniversary Q

Hell, I don’t know, it’s close to all three so here we go.

Opus AND Spike showed up to ruin my RomCom moment of sob singing Happy Birthday to Me while holding a cupcake with a candle in it (you know, right before the awkward guy gets in to the popular group or hooks up with a girl waaay out of his league…..think Pitch Perfect). Yes, it’s also my F3 anniversary some time around here….and during one of my anniversary Q’s was Swiper’s first posting. It’s all crammed in there together. May as well celebrate with a Tabata.

We did pretty much the same workout we did two weeks ago. It’s my jam now, because it’s extremely hard for 20 minutes and the rest is warmup/cooldown work. Supposedly it burns fat for like 2 days or something….who knows. One of these days, I will get all the times right and maybe come up with some new exercises. The ones we have are good ones though, and cover pretty much all the groups….but I’ll look around for some variety.

I hope everybody has a great day!

    Lab Rat apologizes…

Also, Shakedown is older now as well.

  • Tabatha

A good showing for WDog this morning got rewarded with a tabata workout. Pullups/bar work, boat/canoe, planks, and jump ups were the exercises. Many comments about the naming of Tabata…and of course, Tabatha was a popular subject. The pax seems to be digging these, so expect more to come out of Lab Rat Q’s in the near future….especially with a smallish pax.

Sorry to keep it short, but my laptop is on the fritz and had to use a loaner computer to get this out in the world, but like Flatline likes to say….”those that post know”.

    Lab Rat apologizes…

  • half way trails

Route was access road to Belle Isle loop and back, but discussion over how much rain downtown didn’t get Saturday caused an audible to return on North Bank. It was a good call.

Other F3ers were spotted out in the wild as well enjoying the weather.

A bit of advice: for the next few weeks until time change, bring a headlamp…you will need it for the first couple miles.

Also, never ask Saab for help in illegally throwing out a mirror. You can guarantee yourself 7 years of bad luck.

  • HIIT me Baby 1 More Time

7 gathered at Atlee this morning for “easy day”. I threatened to Q by clipboard due to recent ankle thing, but was luckily able to participate with no issues. As happens most times when I read something in an article, I think the best way to try it out is in front of a bunch of friends with no prior practice. Today was no exception after reading a little about High Intensity Interval Training programs.

We did a little warm up and stretching then headed over to the pullup bars. We did a few rounds of pullups then got to the HIIT. Four stations, 40 seconds on, 20 seconds off and rotatate stations. After completion of a circuit, 1 minute break then do it again….4 times, for a grand total of 20 minutes. Stations were: bar work, step up/happy feet, boat/canoe, and plank/chatarunga. I think it sucked enough to be effective, we shall see what the next two days feel like.

I took us out in a confused mess after offering it up to anybody else….no takers so it’s your own fault!

Glad to be back at DaVille…

    Lab Rat apologizes….

  • Back in the Saddle

Among the three other groups that met in the parking lot this morning, ours was smallest. However, that didnt deter us from getting in some work. We headed over to the first circle for some warm ups. I was watching the boys gymnastics team do abs exercises at the gym last night and incorporated some side crunches from their workout in to ours….I think it’s a keeper. I was thinking about how long it has been since I have done pullups, and I couldnt remember. Let’s just say that if you don’t use it, you lose it. We finished off the rest of the morning at the Carillon field with a beast. Talk this morning revolved around BRR and sore muscles….I am sure that tomorrow we could talk about the exact same thing. It has been a while since I have Q’d, but it felt good to take the reigns once again. Plan on seeing more of it. Until then…..

  • Ultimate Heartbreak

11 hippy looking dudes showed up for some Ultimate frisbee this morning…some knowing what was coming, others didnt have a clue. After convincing almost everybody to give it a shot, we got going to the dewy field of Heartbreak for some fun.

The light was not optimal and the frisbee was always wet, but no excuses were made for the multitude of bad throws and many drops. Fun was still had by all, and the dark jerseys won out with their extra man. MVP standout was definitely Snuff…he has skills. Bodos quickly found out that Snuff was his man and they made for a tough duo to beat. Lights tried our best to mount a comeback, but we just couldnt find the connection to hang in there.

Well played by all, look forward to next June when we can run it all back again. In the mean time, if you want to play pickup, let me know! Many games around the RVA for pickup, and I am always willing to play.

Apology of the week goes out to Oyster and anybody that was guarded by Bodos for the violation of the 1 meter rule. It is a disc space rule….see below (marker is the person guarding the thrower):

    Disc space:

    1. It is a disc space violation if:
      1. any part of the marker is less than one disc diameter away from the torso of the thrower; or
      2. a line between any two points on the marker
        1. touches the thrower; or
        2. is less than one disc diameter away from the torso or pivot of the thrower.

And now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

    Lab Rat apologizes…

  • Slipped Disc

Did that get your attention? Ahhh, nothing better than having a few men of a certain age running around with men of a much much smaller age. Luckily, the slipped discs were all external (this time).

Apparently, Atlee High School also got the memo that DaVille was playing Ultimate this morning, so they turned the sprinklers on for us…Noice!! Everything was slightly damp, which many of the 11 players we had this morning used that as an excuse. It’s a good thing they had the slick discs as an excuse, because there were a whole lot of drops!

We played 6 on 5, which worked ok…it would have been nice to have Chapstick out….Yard Sale, make sure you let him know that he missed out on making it even teams! The youth played great this morning with many long huck opportunities (with drops) and some great D.

Ultimate is such a great game in that it doesnt take much time to get competent at it, and you don’t have to be big to be good (speed helps though). It is the sport I wish I knew about when I was in college. I hope that Wilt and Hash will get their dads and siblings out there and utilize their new consolation prizes and realize what a great sport it is. If anyone is interested in the very active Ultimate scene in RVA, please reach out and I will direct you. Especially the high schoolers going on to college.

    Announcements:

-Ultimate again on Thursday at the Forge!

    -Convergence Saturday at Dogpile: 0700

Apology of the week (year?) goes out to Fannie Mae for getting my face in the way of his swingy arm thing with the disc. I’m sorry about that, and I am happy to see that the spot on my nose is a bruise and not melanoma. That was a scare for about 10 seconds.

    Lab Rat apologizes…
