  • Were we the chumps?

The usual OTB numbers didn’t happen this morning. After some messaging yesterday, and in spite of the wet and cold weather, YHC was 99.9% sure that Don Draper would show up for a run this morning. …And he did…along with a new route. Total mileage was right at 6. Nice 1st and 2nd F.

Seems easy to call any of the fartsackers that didn’t show this morning “chumps”, but looking back on the nasty wet cold, maybe YHC has it backwards.

  • Who doesn’t love a good beast?

A little on the below freezing side but that didn’t stop 10 beasts from joining YHC at Huguenot Park this morning. After waiting slightly past time for a few PAX that were coming in hot, the following is what went down…

Mosey to back parking lot for COP:

SSHs, Imperial Walkers, DQs, Ukrainian Soldiers, LBCs, Flutter Kicks

Mosey to field for a Beast:

Six rounds, six stops, six reps: Merkins, 2-count Ball Dippers, WWIIs, Tricep Extensions, Jump Squats, Burpees

Five more burpees to make an odd 41 in honor of Draper’s birthday.

11s: Dips on the bleachers, cross the field, heals to heaven. Audible was called to make it just half the field.

Indigenous peoples run back to the basketball court.

At the basketball court, bear crawl one side, forward crab one side, polar bear crawl one side, and then backward crab.

    BTTF.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, Prayer Requests, YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

Ragnar in April. See Machismo if interested.

Something about a singalong with McRib….details are hazy but keep asking about it

41 laps at Miles of Truth tomorrow for Draper’s 41st….5am start time. Come for all or a little.

Prayer request for a friend of DTHs M who received a terminal cancer diagnosis

    NMS:

Maybe it’s just me, but when YHC started posting for F3 back in the day, the beast made a more regular appearance. Always a hit for the PAX, YHC decided to unleash the beast this morning. Come to find out, this was Dealer’s first beast and apparently it did not disappoint. Glad he was able to finally get the experience.

Oh yeah…and happy birthday Don Draper!

    Peace…I’m out!

  • Climbing Otterdale

Five runners and one canine (no walkers this morning) beat the fartsack and made it out for another edition of OTB.

Total mileage was around 7 and included a climb from Honeymoon’s soon-to-be new abode up Otterdale. The trip up Otterdale appeared to be Gumbo’s idea, but YHC is pretty sure it was actually Boberry’s (who loves that climb and will stop at nothing until he brainwashes the rest of the PAX into loving it as well).

Conversation this morning included topics such as weather balloons, moats, drawbridges, trolls, and lesser important items like 2.0s and college.

  • Tiny Curb

Seven made it out for this week’s installment of SOJ OTB.

Two walked, five ran. Runners got in about 7mi.

  • A Little Something for Everyone

Twelve HIM joined YHC this morning for a beatdown that went something like this….

Mosey to basketball court for COP: SSHs, Cherry Pickers, Ukrainian Soldiers, Imperial Walkers, LBCs, Merkins, Hello Dollies, Tricep Extensions (this one was a crowd pleaser)

Sharks and Minnows: Minnows line up along the fence and attempts to cross the court without being tagged by a shark (just YHC to start). If you get tagged, perform 10 merkins and become a shark on the next go around. Each round consisted of a different animal walk….Crab Walk, Bear Crawl, and Duck Walk. It goes without saying that Snuff has got some mad animal skills.

Mosey to back parking lot for Triple Check: Pole smokers, American Hammers, and a run around the parking lot.

Bearpees: We did two rounds of this. Cross the parking lot with 4 count bear crawl and 1 burpee. Cross it again with 8 count bear crawl and 2 burpees.

BTTF for 4 MOM: Flutter kicks, FMs, Rosalitas, APDs.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, Prayer Requests, Florence took us out.

Announcement: Happy Hour Thursday at the Veil Forest Hill, 6-8, family friendly.

Prayers for Doozy’s shoulder recovery. There was another prayer request and it has slipped YHCs mind…please put it in the chat.

NMS: After a week long hiatus due to travel and exciting work conferences, YHC was ready to be back out in the gloom. In fact, YHC put his name on the Q sheet weeks ago because he knew he’d need the push to get back at it after being gone. Strong work by everyone this morning. As noted above, Snuff does animal moves like a ninja. Honorable mention should go to DTH and Florence, who also did well in evading being tagged. Bearpees is one of YHCs favorites….am I alone in this?

As always, thanks for humoring me and letting me lead. Have a great Tuesday! Peace!

  • Substitute Q

15 HIM looking forward to a DTH Q joined YHC this morning at SOT for a substitute Q. Here’s what went down.

Mosey to the top of Mt. St. Midlo for COP:

SSHs, DQs, Cherry Pickers, Urkainian Soldiers, Merkins, LBCs

    Triple Check:

Using only half of Mt. Midlo (the steeper half), partner 1 runs up to the top of the hill and back while partner 2 does merkins and partner 3 flutter kicks.

Long mosey to track and bleachers.

Dora: 100 one and half dips, 200 box jumps, 300 squats

Long indigenous people’s run BTTF with PAX performing 2 burpees when at the end of the line.

    30 seconds remaining…5 burpees.

Numbers, names, prayer requests, Herme took us out.

    NMS:

DTH has been feeling under the weather and reached out yesterday to some of us about taking the Q. Today just felt like a good day to Q and so YHC grabbed the chance. Even though YHC would not consider this morning’s beatdown to be running heavy (we only covered 2.3 miles), some of the PAX seemed to disagree. YHC will admit this…the 200 box jumps may have been a bit much. But you guys just persevere.

Welcome to Whisper (FNG brought out by Rosco). Whisper was originally dubbed Magoo due to him being an eye doctor and Magoo some old blind cartoon character. But Q’s prerogative prevails. After finding out that our FNG plays saxophone in some local bands, George Michael was suggested followed by Careless Whisper and thus Whisper was born. Hope to see you back out soon Whisper!

Prayers that DTH recovers quickly and that the crud doesn’t interfere with his travels to Orlando and his speech at a medical missions conference.

Also, Florence mentioned that a woman was out exercising at 430 in the morning in Memphis and was abducted and killed. F3nation is asking PAX members to suggest to their female friends that exercise early in the mornings to locate an F3 group and exercise nearby. Safety in numbers.

Thanks for letting me lead today. Have a great day fellas! Make it a good one. Peace…I’m out!

  • Happy Birthday Pop

    Happy Birthday Pop

YHCs grandfather (Arlett Franklin Edwards, Jr.) was born August 19, 1922 and left this world on June 13, 2022 (just a little more than two months shy of his 100th birthday). Five HIM joined YHC at Twin Team this morning to help pay tribute to a man that inspired me more than I can ever express. Here’s what went down this morning:

    COP:

    Burpees x 8

    SSHs x 19

    Merkins x 19

    LBCs x 22

    Burpees x 6

    DQs x 13

    Helicopters x 20

    Cherry Pickers x 22

Mosey to jungle gym for Morning Call:

Plank up in a line. First PAX member does five pull-ups and the rest of the PAX does a merkin for each pull-up. Repeat for all.

Crawls and WWIIs: Starting at the end of the field, 1) army crawl to somewhere that looks like 25 yards and perform 10 WWIIs, 2) then bear crawl to the 50 and do 15 WWIIs, 3) crab walk to the 75 and do 20 WWIIs, 4) polar bear crawl to the end and do 25 WWIIs.

Mosey to black top for Millennial (or 10 100s): Exercise is called. First person to 100 ends the round and PAX runs to the other end of the black top for the next round. Exercises included American Hammers, Jump Squats, Merkins, Shoulder Taps, Flutters, Burpees (done as a collective), something kind of like Peter Parkers, Squats, and two more I can’t remember.

BTTF for 5 minutes of Mary: Rosalitas, Crunchy Frogs, Alabama Prom Dates, Dying Cockroaches, and something else.

Numbers, names, announcements, prayer requests, YHC took us out.

Announcements: F3RVA retreat coming up (see pre-blast for details), Labor Day Convergence at Dogpile (7am)

NMS: YHC is gonna admit it, today is tough. Pop was a constant in my life for 42 years and a HIM that inspired me to work hard. YHC is grateful for the HIM of F3RVA that also inspire me to be a better version of myself. Special thanks to those that endured my tribute to Pop this morning.

Pop was a very proud WWII vet serving in Europe from 1942-1945 with the Army’s 2nd General Hospital 44th Evac Hosp. His constant stories of those good ole days always served to remind me why they call his the greatest generation. He owned a tv and radio repair business in Danville for many years…and although he shut down that business in the 80s, he kept working until he was 90. I never met a man that worked as hard as he did. He was married to my grandmother for 75 years before she passed in 2021. He truly missed her and I suppose it makes sense that he followed her as quickly as he could.

Have a great Friday fellas! Hug your families and let the know how much you love them. Peace!

  • Like going home

SOJ takeover week continued with a beatdown at WDog. Before Source of Truth moved to Midlo Middle, YHC called WDog his Wednesday home. Has been quite some time since posting to this AO, but today was just like going home.

    Here’s what went down…

Mosey to amphitheater for a slaughter start. Box jump burpees to the top and meet in the circle.

COP: SSHs, Helicopters, Ukrainian soldiers, Cherry pickers, DQs, Merkins, LBCs

Love Hill: Mosey halfway down Love Hill (had planned to go all the way but forgot how long it was). Partner up. One partner runs to the top of the hill while the other performs bear crawl. Runner returns and switch off. Repeat with forward crab, polar bear crawl, and backward crab until reaching the top.

Rusty Cage: Six pack with 6 pull-ups, 6 merkins, and 6 jerkins. Repeat to 1. Shiplap had a sudden stomach emergency and missed out on this fun.

Mosey to the field for two rounds of a Beast: Crossed leg lifts (both legs) and two-count flutters

BTTF for 2 minutes of Mary (American Hammers and Rosalitas.

Numbers, names, announcements, YHC took us out.

NMS: Awesome to be back at WDog this morning. YHC admits he doesn’t cross the river very often anymore but maybe it’s time to make a change. Being back at WDog this morning made YHC remember how much he enjoys this AO. So many places to go and so little time! Great to have House Party out at WDog for the first time.

One questions remains from this morning: Where was Hitchhiker? Word on the street was that he was picking up Bad News from the Omni and heading over. Did he get lost? Did he and Bad News opt for coffeeteria instead?

Announcements: The Bridge on June 25

Prayers please for YHCs family. I lost my last grandparent on Monday. My grandfather was 2 months shy of 100 and we were really excited to celebrate that tremendous milestone with him in August. But, that wasn’t in the cards. After losing my grandma (and his wife of 75 years) last year, he hasn’t been the same. He went peacefully in his sleep and I believe he is happy to be reunited with his wife. Pop was a proud WWII vet and spoke often of his time in Europe during the war. I will miss his stories. YHC plans a tribute for him in August.

  • Five and change = Almost seven

Recent injury and illness turned what should have been a PAX of five into two this morning. Launching from Dogwood Dell, Boberry claimed to have a route of ”five and change”. If you check out Strava, what you’ll see is a route consisting of a rectangle with a tail. Upon returning to the start, YHCs watch said 6.89 miles. Always the optimist, Boberry’s watch said 6.99. In either case, the rectangle tail was not what Bo intended. The PAX was grateful for the extra mileage anyway.

Great to hit the mean streets of RVA with Boberry this morning. Enjoyed the conversation!

    Have a great Friday everyone….peace!
