  • Ready to Run

Five Twin Team regulars joined YHC for a warm, post-rain workout. Here’s what went down.

Mosey to back of Bettie Weaver for COP:

    SSH x 25

    DQ x 12

    Russian Soldiers x 12

    American Hammers x 25

Sugar Sticks (aka Flutter Kicks) x 25

    Mosey to Playground.

    Mini-Murph

    5 rounds of 5 pull-ups, 10 merkins, 15 squats OYO

    Mosey to the swamp

    BLIMPS

15 burpees, 20 lunges (each leg), 25 imperial walkers, 30 merkins, 35 plank jacks, 40 jump squats

After each exercise is performed, run a lap around the track (6 laps total)

    Bearpees

Staying on the track, Bear crawl 4 paces, perform 1 burpee, repeat until reaching the end of bleachers.

Turn around and repeat…this time bear crawl 8 paces and perform 2 burpees.

Time ran out, so audible called.

    Mosey BTTF.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, Prayer Requests, YHC took us out.

    NMS:

YHC awoke at 4:40 this morning to the sound of heavy rain. Brain immediately went into Q contingency plan mode. YHC also figured this might be his first solo post. But, by a stroke of Friday the 13th luck, the rain ended by the time YHC left his abode.

Bullseye arrived early this morning and got some extra credit running in and YHC could tell he was ready for more. Although Doozy figured otherwise, there was no trip to Twin Team hill this morning. YHC admits… he had big plans for it. But, the extra darkness after daylight savings time began last weekend and the chance of rain served as a deterrent. Plus, YHC really wanted to get some pull-ups in after making some recent and unfounded grand claims regarding his pull-ups ability. The BLIMPS (with running) and Bearpees are favorites of YHC and the PAX crushed it this morning. YHC had intended to do the Bearpees on the field, but it was extra swampy this morning.

A decent chunk of conversation this morning focused on the current response of the public/schools/etc to the coronavirus. Prayers for anyone affected…as well as for peace and patience as we all deal with some interruptions in our lives.

Prayers also for PeeDee and his family as they deal with the loss of his mother this week.

    Have a great Friday everyone!

  • A New(ish) Holiday Tradition

A PAX of eight hit SOT this morning for the 2nd annual advent calendar beatdown. Here’s what went down:

    COP:

    SSH x 25

    DQs x 12

    Russian Soldiers x 12

    Helicopters x 15

    Advent Calendar:

At each door, perform exercise (x door number…doors 1-5 are exceptions)

Door 1: 1 dozen Crunchy Frogs

Door 2: 2 dozen Crunchy Frogs

    Door 3: 3 dozen 2-count Flutter Kicks

    Door 4: 4 dozen LBCs

    Door 5: 5 dozen LBCs

    Doors 6-10: Burpees

    Doors 11-15: WWIIs

    Doors 16-20: Donkey Kicks

Doors 21-22: 2-count American Hammers (in cadence)

    Doors 23-24: Merkins

    Run a lap around MMS.

Door 25: Jingle Balls (what a way to celebrate Christmas)

    Christmas Victory Laps:

    Mosey down to the track.

25 Alabama Prom Dates, run a lap

    25 APDs, 25 Freddy Mercury’s, run a lap

    25 APDs, 25 FMs, 25 Rosalitas, run a lap

    Mosey back to the flag.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, Herme took us out.

    NMS:

Appreciate the PAX indulging YHC on another year of this workout. Hoping to make it a SOT holiday tradition. Rosie inspired YHC yesterday with his use of “1 dozen LBCs”…this trick came in handy with the lower numbered doors.

The PAX crushed it this morning…even the Jingle Balls (of which 25 may be too many). As is typical when YHC leads, one of PAX commented that they were expecting more running for a Tobit Q. And as always, YHC aims to please.

It happens every year, the holidays come and go in a blink of an eye. Many find this time of year stressful and hectic (and YHC admits…it can be). But if you take just a moment to step back from the craziness, you’ll encounter a peace that is difficult to attain any other time of year. And with F3, the gloom can really be a peaceful place.

  • No Toll: Where Men Are Left Behind

The wet fields of No Toll were calling this chilly morning and a PAX of 20 answered that call. 5:29:30 and we’re off…here’s what went down.

    Mosey to front field.

    COP:

SSH, Russian Soldiers, Helicopters, DQs, LBCs, Flutter Kicks, Merkins

    Five Corners:

At corner 1 of the field, 5 burpees.

Run to corner 2, perform 15 hand release merkins, run back to corner 1 for 5 burpees.

Run to corner 2, 15 hand release merkins, run to corner 3, 25 WWIIs, back to corner 2 for 15 HRMs, back to corner 1 for 5 burpees.

    Run to corner 2, 15 HRMs, corner 3, 25 WWIIs, corner 4, 35 2-count mountain climbers, back to corner 3, 25 WWIIs, corner 2, 15 HRMs, corner 1, 5 burpees.

Run to corner 2, 15 HRMs, corner 3, 25 WWIIs, corner 4, 35 2-count mountain climbers, corner 5 (also known as corner 1) 45 jump squats, back to corner 4, 35 mountain climbers, corner 3, 25 WWIIs, corner 2, 15 HRMs, corner 1, 5 burpees.

Al Gore and repeat the last round with the six.

    Cross the Field:

Line up on the far end of the field. Bear crawl to the 25, broad jump to the 50, crab walk to the 75, run to the end. Bear crawl back for the six.

Finish up with an indigenous people’s run around the entire AO. Back to the flag.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, YHC took us out.

    NMS:

YHC knows that his watch runs about 30 seconds fast. Taking a cue from OC’s recent Q’s, YHC decided to just get things rolling when the watch hit 5:30. There was a slight uproar but the PAX settled down (a little) during the mosey to the field. Also taking cue’s from OC, YHC’s cadence was a little off during COP….next time, YHC will take cues from Fresh Prince and just forget the cadence completely.

The five corners took up more time than YHC planned…but it also looked less brutal in YHC’s mind. Fresh Prince (in true Fresh Prince style) took off faster than a cheetah and never looked back….he crushed it with Flange, Rosie, and Bullseye hot on his tail.

Crossing the field via bear crawl, broad jump, and crab walk took only a couple minutes and YHC called for a second crossing. But Gumbo managed to talk YHC into just bear crawling back for the six. More mumblechatter followed…YHC admits, he succumbs easily to peer pressure. Attempting to save face, an indigenous people’s run back to the flag was called. All seemed well….

Numbers were called…19. This didn’t feel right…could have sworn there were 20 of us. Oh well. Names were called and just when YHC asked about announcements, one of the PAX says “Hey, wasn’t Bone Thug here today?” His vehicle was still parked. Is he on the can? Several PAX head back toward the fields and find Bone Thug still making his way to the flag after the indigenous people run. Whoops…guess we do leave men behind after all. Apologies to Bone Thug. YHC got swept up in all the mumblechatter this morning.

    Gentlemen, always a pleasure. Peace!

  • Hot Tater is making the rounds this week

A PAX of 7 hit the Forge this morning for a Hot Tater Q. Here’s what went down:

    Tobit Q:

SSHs, DQs, Russian Soldiers, Helicopters, and LBCs

Bearpees: PAX lines up on one side of soccer field.

Round 1: Bear crawl across field performing 1 burpee every 4 paces

Round 2: Bear crawl across field performing 2 burpees every 8 paces

    Mr. Roper Q:

Mosey back to front parking lot.

Four Corners Ladder: PAX performs exercise at Corner 1, moves on to Corner 2 and returns to Corner 1….etc etc

    Corner 1: 5 burpees

    Corner 2: 10 crunchy frogs

    Scrooge Q:

More Mary with Protractors (10, 30, 45, 46, 90 degrees) and Hand Release Merkins

    Sea Doo Q:

With less than 5 minutes remaining, mosey to railings for 20 jerkins.

    Head back to the flag.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

Labor Day convergence at Timberwolf (7am)

See DTHs preblast for poker night this Saturday

    NMS:

Numbers at the Forge this morning were lighter than usual. Did DTH take many of the regulars over to 45MOM? The Forge Q spot was still empty yesterday afternoon and so YHC threw in a hot potato. …YHC enjoys a good hot potato Q.

One does not see Mr. Roper’s name on the Q sheet (ever) so YHC was curious to see what he would throw at us. Well, Mr. Roper brought it strong with the 4/5 corners ladder and abs focused Mary. Not sure if he’ll actually read this BB, but YHC volunteers to write up the BB for him in the future if he’ll actually put his name on the Q sheet.

Hot potatoes are also great to entice those that have never Q’d before to sign up. After getting a taste, YHC hopes Scrooge and Sea Doo will have their VQ’s soon.

Nice to have Fireman Ed SOJ this morning!

Make today a great one fellas…peace out!

  • Two burpees…no problem!

With the temp at 80 and humidity at 800%, eleven mighty warriors of the gloom descended on Huguenot High this morning. Here’s what went down.

Mosey down the hill and to the cul-de-sac behind HHS.

    COP:

    SSH x 30

    DQ x 10

    Helicopters x 15

    LBC x 20

    Flutterkicks x 20

    Merkins x 10

    Lightpole Alley Ladder

Round 1: At first light post, perform just two burpees.

Round 2: Two burpees at pole 1, run to pole 2 and perform 4 jump squats, run back to pole 1 for two more burpees.

Round 3: 2 burpees at pole 1, 4 jump squats at pole 2, 6 WWIIs at pole 3, 4 jump squats at pole 2, 2 burpees at pole 1

Round 4: You guys get the idea. Add 8 monkey humpers at pole 4

Round 5: Add 10 merkins at pole 5

Round 6: Add 12 2-count American hammers at pole 6

Round 7: Add 14 LBCs at pole 7

Round 8: Top of the ladder…16 burpees, and then work your way back down to pole 1.

Mosey to to bottom of hill.

    Love Hill

Partner up. Partner 1 bear crawls while partner 2 runs up the hill and back. Then partner 1 runs while partner 2 bear crawls. Alternate with crab walk and box jumps.

6:15 came before the top was reached and so an audible was called.

    Numbers, Names

    Announcements:

Puppy pile next weekend (July 27) at 7:05 at Dogpile

Labrat has the Q for Dogpile this Saturday. He claims it’s going to be laid back. If you haven’t Q’d before and are looking for some cadence action, let Labrat know.

Early risers this Saturday at 4am.

Sugar Sock’s 40th birthday party tomorrow evening 6-10 at Ardent.

    Continued prayers for Helix’s daughter.

    Prayers for Exit Row.

    Flange took us out.

    NMS:

YHC arrived a little early this morning to count some lightpoles and was glad to see EF and Flatline already chatting it up. Flatline recently completed a move to Bon Air and did not have the best experience with his movers. It’s a good story…you should ask him about it.

5:30 arrives with Flange running in and two others coming in hot. Labrat commented something along the lines that SOJ time must work differently than everywhere else.

The lightpole ladder was a crowd pleaser. Starting out with just 2 little innocent burpees, what harm could possibly follow? But Flange (in true Flange fashion) destroyed the ladder with Posh, Flatline, and Fresh Prince right on his heels. As always, the whole PAX persevered. With 10 minutes left, YHC at least wanted to get Love Hill started, but wasn’t sure if finishing was in order…it wasn’t.

Great to have some summer tourists out this morning and to see some faces YHC hasn’t seen in a while.

Nice work today fellas…y’all crushed it! As always, thanks for letting YHC lead.

    Peace out!

  • And so begins the last year of hate

A PAX of 11 posted at SOT to help YHC begin his final year of hate. Here’s what went down:

Very long mosey along the trails behind MMS to the loop around Loch Lothian (the pond/lake at Midlothian Mines Park).

    Love (Half) Loop

Partner up. Partner 1 runs to amphitheater area (about 0.3 miles away) and back while partner 2 does forward crab walks, box jump burpees, and bear crawl. Keep alternating and repeating until the end is reached.

Run the rest of the loop and return to MMS. Plank-o-rama for the six.

    11s – Merkins and WWIIs

A couple weeks ago, Bullseye made use of a really nice hill by the track. Can’t let something like that go to waste. …Perform 10 merkins at the bottom of the hill, run up the hill, 1 WWII situp, run back down the hill, and repeat with 9 merkins, 2 WWIIs….you guys know the drill.

Mosey back to the parking lot.

Numbers, names, announcements, and YHC took us out.

    Announcements

HDHH today – 6pm Palani Drive

Early risers on Saturday – 4am or something crazy like that

No excuses workout on Saturday – 7am at DaVille

Puppy Pile last Saturday in June

    NMS

YHC is feeling blessed today. Although a bit muggy, it was a beautiful morning and a great way to begin YHCs 39th birthday.

Thanks gents for indulging me this morning. YHC thought it was time to take the PAX on a field trip via the trails behind MMS. The loop around the pond at Midlothian Mines park is about 0.58 miles and YHC had intended to do the “Love Loop” all the way around (with two different sets of 3 exercises). That was perhaps a bit ambitious and so an audible was called after the first round to the amphitheater/pump/pulley/whatever. Aside from the goose excrement, YHC thought it was a rather scenic morning.

Thanks again to Bullseye for introducing the PAX to that hill at the MMS track (can’t believe it hadn’t been used before). Phonics and Flange destroyed the 11s.

Great to have Phonics and Opus out this morning on the summer tour.

Also great to meet Hacksaw who posted today for his first bootcamp after posting on Sunday for Off the Books. Way to push today!

Thanks to Flange (also on the summer tour) for making his first trip to SOT for YHCs Q.

Well done fellas! As always, it was privilege to lead this morning.

Make today a good one…and as Tim McGraw says “always be humble and kind”.

    Peace out!

  • Yep, it’s another hill

Five SOJ regulars and two summer tourists descended on Twin Team for a beatdown that would honor the AO’s namesake. Here’s what went down:

5:30 and we’re off. Mosey around the BWES bus loop waiting for any stragglers. Seeing none, head out and turn right towards Twin Team hill. ….Wait, is that Loose Goose? Circle back, pick him up, and once again, turn right.

    COP:

    SSH x 20

    DQ x 12

    Russian Soldiers x 20

    FMs x 20

Ascend to the Summit (Round 1)

Native American run to the top of Twim Team; person in the rear does 5 WWIIs before running to catch up. Two rounds were accomplished by the time the summit was reached.

Descend to bottom in similar fashion; only difference is 5 merkins (which eventually become derkins) before running to the front of the line. Again, two rounds were completed.

Ascend to the Summit (Round 2)

The second ascent was accomplished with Catch Me If You Can. Partner up (or triple up given a PAX of 7) with those of similar running capabilities. Partner 1 runs backward up Twin Team while Partner 2 completes 3 burpees before giving it all they have to catch up with Partner 1. Don’t stop until you reach the top.

Mosey back to BWES and plank for the six.

Mosey to yet another hill (by the baseball field).

    Modified BLIMPS

At the bottom of the hill perform 10 burpees, bear crawl to the top, another 10 burpees, run to the bottom. Repeat with 15 lunges (each leg), 20 imperial walkers (single count), 25 merkins, 30 plank jacks, and 35 squats.

Mosey back for 2 MOM. 20 APDs and 20 American Hammers.

Numbers, names, announcements, and Doozy took us out.

    Announcements:

HDHH next Wednesday 6/19 at 6pm

Summer tour is in full effect (sign up)

Breaking Bread is coming up (check another BB for date)

    NMS:

YHC does not grab a last minute Q often. But the empty Twin Team slot (still available yesterday afternoon) was calling and it just felt right. Twin Team hill needed some love (she’s been neglected) and as much as YHC prefers a scenic sunrise on the EZ Dock, it was time to turn right out of BWES.

As we stared up the hill at BWES for the modified BLIMPS, Loose Goose noted “Oh look, another hill”. In the end, the PAX conquered two hills this morning. You guys crushed it! Thanks for letting me lead.

Awesome to see BT and Wojo out this morning for the summer tour!

Have a great Friday everyone. Peace out y’all!

  • The lights are on Spring Break

It’s April but winter seems to be holding on. Ten SOJ’ers broke the strong hold of the fartsack this morning (and it was strong) for a cold and dark beatdown that went something like this:

    COP:

    DQs x 10

    Helicopters x 12

    SSH x 25

    LBCs x 20

    Alternating shoulder taps x 20

    Long mosey around all fields

    7 of Diamonds

Round 1: 7 burpees at each corner of field

Round 2: 14 merkins at each corner

Round 3: 21 2-count flutters at each corner

Round 4: 28 monkey humpers at each corner

    Mosey to another soccer field.

    Bearpees

Cross field by performing 1 burpee followed by 4 count bear crawl

Repeat with 2 burpees and 8 count bear crawl

Repeat with 3 burpees and 12 count bear crawl

Repeat with 4 burpees and 16 count bear crawl

    Mosey back to the flag.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, J’ville and Ollivander took us out.

    Announcements and Prayer Requests:

The Forge starts this Thursday at Huguenot High School

Lots of prayers needed for the Nicolette family (known to Shakedown and family) who were hit by a truck while on spring break in Kitty Hawk. Mom and Dad did not survive the crash and have left behind their kids. This is really hard to imagine…take a moment to hug your family tight today. https://www.wavy.com/news/north-carolina/2-pedestrians-die-child-hurt-after-being-hit-by-truck-in-kitty-hawk/1893342891

    NMS:

YHC was looking forward to this April Q thinking (naively) that it would be both warmer and maybe a little lighter. Big giant “NO” on both fronts this morning. For some reason, all the lights have been off recently at No Toll making for a very dark entrance. As Gumbo noted, they must be taking off for an extended spring break.

The Bearpees were a huge hit with the PAX this morning. If it’s mumblechatter worthy, then it’ll be worth bringing back.

Great to see Dr. Tryhard back out this morning after his lengthly bout with the plague. Thanks for posting the shovel flag. Sorry the PAX was unable to deliver a crowbar after you locked your keys in your truck while putting away said shovel flag. YHC trusts Ollivander got you home safe and you were able to get the spare keys.

The entire New Market crew was noticeably missing this morning…it wasn’t because YHCs name was on the Q sheet was it?

Gentlemen, thanks for allowing YHC to lead this morning…always a pleasure. Make today a great one!

    Peace…I’m out!

  • Chilly Potato for 1st Day of Spring

Seven masters of the gloom arrived at SOT on the 1st Day of Spring to find temperatures hovering around freezing and no Q on the Q sheet. A hot potato Q was called that went something like this:

    Rosie Q:

Mosey to front of the school for COP (which included, but is not limited to):

Copperhead squats, SSHs, LBCs, Moroccan night clubs, etc.

Mosey behind the school via 5 broad jump burpees, 10 lunges (each leg), and 10 inch worms.

    Toss the Q to Doozy.

    Doozy Q:

Mosey down the hill towards the track for a brief wall sit.

    Triple Check:

Partner 1 runs the hill while partner 2 performs ball dippers and partner 3 performs squats.

    More wall sitting.

    Toss the Q to Gumbo.

    Gumbo Q:

Mosey to a set of bleachers. PAX does 20 dips, 20 inclined merkins, 20 jump squats, and runs a lap. Repeato with 30 dips, 30 inclined merkins, 30 jump squats, and a lap.

    Toss the Q to Lugnut.

    Lugnut Q:

Hallelujah mosey up the hill to the tennis courts for suicides.

Round 1: forward suicide and perform 25 LBCs when done

Round 2: backward suicide with 25 LBCs at end

Round 3: sideways suicide with 25 LBCs at end

    Toss Q to Tobit.

    Tobit Q:

Mosey back to parking lot for two rounds of burpee shuffle and 5 MOM which included 30 American Hammers, 30 Alabama Prom Dates, and 30 Rosalitas.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, Doozy took us out.

    Announcements:

    GrowRuck events this weekend.

    NMS:

YHC noticed this morning that a BB had not yet been posted for SOT….and thinks “what’s up with that?” Then YHC thinks….”wait a minute, was that supposed to be me?” If so, YHC definitely needs an SOP refresher on hot potato BB protocol. Is it a) “He who calls the potato is thereby responsible for penning thee BB” or b) “He who is lastly called for the potato is hereby proclaimed the responsible party in all BB matters”??? ….YHC supposes when it comes down to it…who cares….so as long as the BB gets posted.

Some mumblechatter this morning centered on Mr. Roper’s 30 hr drive back to Richmond from Denver after getting stuck there due to four cancelled flights. Also discussed was Roper’s uncanny ability to continue verbal communication (without ceasing) even while attempting to breathe and count. It’s definitely a talent.

Great job this (er yesterday) morning fellas!

    Peace!

  • There’s just never enough time

Fifteen of F3RVA’s finest descended on Twin Team this morning for a Tobit beatdown. Here’s what went down:

Short mosey to the cul-de-sac behind Bettie Weaver.

COP: SSHs, DQs, Helicopters, Arm Circles (x40 forward and x2 reverse), LBCs, Merkins, can’t remember anything else

    Quick mosey to blacktop.

Deconstructed Burpees: This one is always a crowd pleaser.

10 Squats, 10 Leg Thrusts, 10 Merkins, 10 Leg Thrusts, 10 Jump Squats (in that order) is one round.

    Repeato for 9, 8, 7, 6, …, 1.

Mosey to gravel/dirt track and partner up for B.O.M.B.S.

Like a Dora, one partner performs an exercise while the other runs a lap around the track and then switch. Exercises were

    50 Burpees

    100 Overhead Presses

    150 Merkins

    200 Big boy sit-ups

    250 Squats

    Plank-o-rama for the six.

    Mosey back to the flag.

    Merkin Ring of Fire

Two Minutes of Mary: Flutter Kicks x 20, American Hammers x 20

Numbers, Names, Announcements, Dr. Tryhard took us out.

    Announcements:

    Breaking Bread this Sunday…see Slurpee.

One of Hardywood’s talented 2.0’s wrote a book and a book signing will take place this evening at Crossroads on Forest Hill (was it 5:30-7?…someone feel free to chime in with the time).

NMS: YHC rolled up to Twin Team this AM with 5 minutes to spare and found a long row of headlights in his face. It’s great to see the big numbers continue at Twin Team. Feels like just yesterday when a PAX of five was the norm. Keep it up fellas!

The 40 arm circles during COP were in honor of DK, who gave us 60 at Timberwolf yesterday. YHC had intended to go as high as 80…but got seriously bored.

The silence during the Deconstructed Burpees was deafening. YHC will take the lack of mumble chatter as a compliment. The PAX totally crushed it though…and left YHC wondering if he had added some extra steps to his own routine.

The “track” behind Bettie Weaver was both “rutty” and “bumpy” and YHC seriously apologizes for dragging the PAX over to that danger zone.

YHC had also planned for some fun hill climbing exercises (there’s just never enough time to get it all done), but with time running out, a mosey back to the flag for ring of fire was called.

It should come as no shock that YHC was not blessed with the gift of gab. But, even if the words aren’t said often enough, this brotherhood is appreciated more than YHC can express. It’s an honor and privilege to lead.

Take your love out into the world gentlemen! Have a great Friday!

    Peace…I’m out!
