  • Hot Potatoes are back on the menu at SOT

After several weeks of having a Q on the Q sheet, five men emerged in the below freezing temperatures this AM to find a Q-less AO (YHC really needs to get into the habit of checking that thing the night before).  A hot potato was called and Mr. Roper (full of fear that he might have to write up a BB) volunteered to go first.  Here’s what went down:

    Mr. Roper Q:

Mosey to the front of MMS.

COP (as best as YHC can remember…but Mr. Roper will never read this anyway so YHC can say anything he wants):

    SSH x 20

    5 burpees OYO

    HRM x 20

    Cherry Pickers x 10

    5 burpees OYO

    Helicopters x ??

    Pass to Beaker.

    Beaker Q:

Stay where we are to start the Dora.  Find a partner (and a team of three….5 is really an awful number for F3 workouts).

Partner(s) 1 performs exercise while partner(s) 2 runs one lap around Midlothian Middle School (that was actually a decently long lap).

    100 Monkey Humpers

    200 Two-count Flutter Kicks

    300 LBCs

    Pass to YHC.

    Tobit Q:

    Four Corners

    Corner 1:  10 Merkins

    Corner 2: 10 Merkins, 20 WWIIs

    Corner 3: 10 Merkins, 20 WWIIs, 30 2-count American Hammers

    Corner 4: 10 Merkins, 20 WWIIs, 30 2-count American Hammers, 40 Jump Squats

    Pass to Doozy.

    Doozy Q:

Mosey to front entrance of MMS.

10 Donkey Kicks, 20 Dips at bench,  30 three-count Mountain Climbers, and repeato.

    Touch-a-Tree

Partner up (or team of 3). Partner 1 runs to a tree and back while partner 2 does Imperial Walkers, repeat with Partner 2 running to tree and Partner 1 doing IWs.  Next, partner 1 finds a different tree and bear crawls to a second tree before running back (repeat with partner 2).  Then, partner 1 runs to three different trees (still bear crawling in between trees 1 and 2) and repeat with partner 2….and so forth until an audible was called.

    Mosey back to the flag.

Numbers, Names, Doozy took us out.

    Announcements:

Puppy Pile on January 26 at 7:05.  Ollivander has the Q.

New AO (The Forge) at Huguenot High School beginning Thursday, April 4. See Dr. Tryhard.

    NMS:

YHC isn’t sure, but there seemed to be some sort of Arctic Polar Vortex that settled upon MMS this morning. The PAX remained in their vehicles right up to 5:29ish before it was realized that there was no Q.  Mr. Roper pointed to a nearby diner and suggested we forego the beatdown for some sausage, biscuits, and gravy. Ultimately, he relented and volunteered to go first to ensure that he didn’t go last (which often carries BB writing responsibilities).

Some nice variety this AM with the hot potato Q. As best as YHC can tell, this was both Beaker and Doozy’s first time leading…well done, fellas! Now that y’all have gotten a taste for it, I’m thinking it’s time to put your names on the Q sheet.

Make today a great one, gentlemen!

    Peace…I’m out!

  • Spreading Some More Holiday Cheer

Six SOT regulars, still filled with holiday spirit, emerged in the very chilly gloom this AM. Most of the PAX remained in their heat-filled vehicles right up to 5:30.  Gumbo might even have been taking a pre-beatdown nap.

    Here’s what went down.

Mosey to the front of MMS for COP:

    SSH x 25

    DQ x 15

    LBCs x 25

    Arm circles x 15 (10 small, 5 big)

    Advent Calendar:

At each numbered door (1-25), perform the called exercise (x door number).

    Days 1 – 5: Burpees

    Days 6 – 10: Merkins

    Days 11-12: WWIIs

    Days 13-14: Plank Jacks

    Days 15-16: Donkey Kicks

Days 17-18: Box cutters (in cadence) (Door 18 doesn’t seem to exist anymore…just a bricked up hole in the wall that we assumed used to be door 18)

Days 19-20: American Hammers (in cadence) – Christmas surprise at Day 20 (there’s doors 20A and 20B…that’s double the Christmas fun!)

Days 21-22: Flutter kicks (in cadence)

Day 23: Merkins (putting in some solid effort as the big day approaches)

Day 24: The reindeer are released and need to stretch their limbs (PAX takes a lap around the school and meets back at door 25)

Day 25: Jingle Balls (check the exicon…it’s there). This 4-count exercise was definitely a crowd pleaser.

    Christmas Victory Mile:

Having made it to Christmas day (and completed delivery of all the presents), it was time to take some victory laps. Mosey down to the track.

Round 1: 25 monkey humpers, sprint a lap

Round 2: 25 monkey humpers, 25 Alabama prom dates, sprint a lap

Round 3: 25 monkey humpers, 25 Alabama prom dates, 25 Rosalitas, sprint a lap

Round 4: 25 monkey humpers, 25 Alabama prom dates, 25 Rosalitas, 25 SSHs, sprint a lap

Mosey back to the parking lot.

Numbers, Names, Announcements, YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

HDHH (today!) at SOJ Capital Ale

Marmaduke is still collecting coats (help him reach 100)

Hardywood’s daughter’s book signing postponed until after January.

    NMS:

YHC was inspired by Rosie’s festive beatdown yesterday and took it upon himself to fill the often empty SOT spot on the Q sheet. With so many numbered doors as MMS, it was almost too easy to decide on an advent calendar theme.  Making our way around the school, it is not that hard to find yourself in a dark corner with a camera pointed at you.  Bullseye wondered if his son would be called to the principal’s office today with questions as to why his dad was lying on the ground with a bunch of dudes in the dark making humping gestures.

The PAX destroyed the advent calendar and just like that, Christmas was here and gone. In fact, the calendar exercise went by waaaaaay faster than YHC planned. Somehow, it went much slower in YHC’s head. With some time to kill and hearing a few PAX “grumble” that any Tobit Q is not complete without a decent run, we headed down to the track for the Christmas victory mile. YHC aims to please.

As Rosie said yesterday, enjoy this time of year, and don’t take it for granted.  It will be over before you know it.  Look for the peacefulness of the season…it’s there…I promise.

Here’s one of my favorite prayers (felt appropriate to share during what can be a hectic time of year for many):

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.”

    Peace…I’m out!

  • The Return of the Twin Team Beast

Six men broke loose from the strong grips of the fartsack this morning to face the Twin Team Beast.  Here’s what went down:

Mosey to Twin Team hill for a short COP:

    SSH x 30

    DQ x 15

All stretched out and blood pumping, the PAX was ready (or not) for YHCs beast modification for Twin Team hill. With the help of two flashing running lights planted half-way and all-the-way up Twin Team, four rounds of the beast followed:

Round 1: Run half-way up Twin Team (to first flashing light) and perform 10 merkins; run the rest of the way up Twin Team (to second flashing light), 10 merkins; run back to half-way point, 10 merkins; run all the way back to the bottom, 10 merkins, plank for the six

    Round 2: Repeat with squats

    Round 3: WWIIs

    Round 4: Two-count flutter kicks

With no time remaining for rounds 5 and 6, mosey back to Bettie Weaver for a burpee ring-of-fire.

Numbers, names, announcements, and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • Marmaduke is still collecting coats.
    • HDHH on 12/19 – Capital Alehouse SOJ. See Flatline for directions.

NMS: 5:30 arrives and YHC points the PAX to Twin Team hill. Noticeable groans followed, but YHC was undeterred. Despite being the namesake of the AO, Twin Team hill has been neglected as of late. Yes, it’s dark over there…but YHC really felt that the hill deserved some attention. Hearing this, Gumbo said that we should just rename the AO “Flat Ground”. YHC has mixed feelings.

Although 6 rounds were planned, only 4 actually happened before time ran out. YHC introduced the Twin Team modified beast at a hot potato Q a while back…we made it through 2 rounds before passing the Q. With 4 rounds done today, I’m thinking we’ll hit all 6 next time.

As typical for a beast, the final round was to include burpees. Since that didn’t happen, a burpee ring of fire was called.  Mumblechatter was somewhat light given the amount of oxygen required to climb Twin Team….although some (perhaps well warranted) grumbling could still be heard. The PAX persevered and crushed it as always.

Thanks to Flange for making an appearance after seeing YHC on the Q sheet…much appreciated…and enjoyed the conversation.

    Great work today fellas!

    Peace…I’m out!

  • SOT Duo

Two studly studs arrived at SOT this morning to see what the gloom of Midlothian Middle had in store for them.

    Here’s what went down:

Run to the back of the school for a short COP:

    DQs, Helicopters, SSH

Run down Midlothian Turnpike to the now empty building where Rita’s and some wine bar used to be. Perform curb crawls x 5.

Run back to MMS and to the bottom of the hill leading to the track.

    Hill climbs:

Round 1: Run halfway up the hill, do 5 burpees, run back down, turn around and run all the way up, do 5 burpees, back down (YHC forgot an exercise at the bottom for this round)

Round 2: Halfway up, 20 American Hammers, back down, 20 LBCs, all the way up, 20 American Hammers, back down, 20 LBCs

Round 3: Halfway up, 15 merkins, back down, 15 Rosalitas, all the way up, 15 merkins, back down, 15 Rosalitas

One lap around the track and then mosey up the stairs and around to the front of the school for double check.

Round 1: Person 1 performs hand release merkins and plank while person 2 runs. Repeato.

Round 2: Person 1 performs WWIIs while person 2 runs. Repeato.

Run back to flag for 5-6 minutes of Mary. Freddy Mercury’s, Flutter Kicks, Hello Dolly, Alabama Prom Dates, American Hammers

Super quick numberama, name-o-rama, and Rosie took us out.

    NMS:

YHC arrived at SOT around 5:25 to find a lone set of headlights shining in the gloom….glad to see you Rosie! YHC has heard of solo posts but has yet to experience it. 5:30 arrives and with no Q on the Q sheet, Rosie and YHC decide to hot potato the thang.  Conversation started off with the obvious….where the heck is everyone?  Today reminded YHC of the old SOT where a duo posting wasn’t so unusual.  Although YHC will be soaking up some sun in Florida next week, he hopes Rosie does not experience a solo SOT posting.

The topic then switched to cross country,  which both YHCs and Rosie’s 2.0’s (Pikachu and Cliffhanger) are doing. First meet is today…looking forward to seeing what Pikachu can do.

With just Rosie and YHC, today was a good one for a more running intensive beatdown.  And YHC was happy to oblige.

    That’s it from me…peace out!

  • Sharks and Minnows Heads to No Toll

A magnificent seven graced the fields of No Toll on a chillier than usual August morning.  Here’s what went down.

PAX (minnows) line up along fence.

Round 1: PAX attempts to bear crawl across court without being tagged by shark (YHC); if tagged, perform 25 merkins and plank up until iteration is over (tagged minnows become sharks). Repeat until no more minnows.

Round 2: Same as round 1 but replace bear crawl with crab walk.

Mosey to fields for round 3.

Round 3: Same as before but with sprints.

Breaking Bread 8/26 – Gumbo has the Q.

Run with the governor tomorrow- sign up at Richmond Road Runners.

Labor Day Convergence at Three Lakes Park

    CSAUP on October 20

    NMS:

Ever since playing Sharks and Minnows at the last Puppypile, YHC has been wanting to do a modified version at a regular F3 workout.  So, in honor of YHC’s 2.0 Pikachu, who injured himself playing it at Puppypile (but not too seriously, the kid has a low tolerance for pain),  Sharks and Minnows made an appearance at No Toll. The modified version was not as easy as YHC thought.  Hardywood showed off a crabwalk flip to avoid being tagged while Sugar Sock bear crawled like a spider monkey.  The sprints weren’t any easier.  Oyster moved with speed YHC didn’t know was possible and Posh was faking left and rights all over the place.

The entire PAX crushed the BOMBS and to YHC’s surprise, there a few minutes remained. No better time than to try out some deconstructed burpees.

YHC wants to thank the PAX for humoring him this morning with the modified Sharks and Minnows.  …It will show up again.

Well done this morning, fellas! As always, it was a privilege to lead such an awesome group of men.

  • Long overdue Q

An elite 8 came out into the humidity this morning to tackle the fields of No Toll.  The sprinklers were a nice added touch. YHC was hoping for bigger numbers this morning but guesses the pull of Ultimate Frisbee at Heartbreak took some away. Here’s what went down.

    COP:

    6 burpees OYO

    19 LBCs

    38 SSH (that’s right, 6,19,38 – today is YHCs 38th bday)

    15 DQs

    THANG:

Mosey to corner of back field.

    Hindenberg BLIMPS

Run to each of the 4 corners of the field and perform exercise:

    Round 1: 5 Burpees

    Round 2: 10 Lunges

    Round 3: 15 Imperial Walkers

    Round 4: 20 Merkins

    Round 5: 25 Plank Jacks

    Round 6: 30 Squats

Total mileage for all 6 rounds was about 1.9 miles.

    Plank-o-rama

    Frisbee Crawl

Mosey to front field and grab frisbee.  One PAX member throws frisbee and all PAX runs after. As soon as frisbee hits the ground, stop and perform 2 burpees. Then race to frisbee via called exercise. First PAX member to frisbee gets the next throw. Exercises were bear crawl, polar bear crawl, forward crab walk, backward crab walk.Repeat as needed.

    Suicides

Mosey to basketball court for a few minutes of suicides.

    3 rounds: forward, backward, sideways

Mosey back to parking lot for numbers, names, announcements.

    YHC took us out.

    NMS:

It has been a while since YHC Q’d and so this morning felt like my VQ. Not sure why the long absence from the Q sheet (could be nerves mixed with a little laziness). But, YHCs bday felt like as good a time as any to get back at it.

Many of the PAX know that YHC enjoys a good run and so did not want to disappoint those looking for a running intense beatdown this morning (you’re welcome, Gumbo).  The Hindenberg took a little longer than YHC thought but it served its purpose well.

YHC was surprised to see Mr. Roper this morning since he seems to have caught the ultimate frisbee bug.  He lit up like a kid in a candy store when YHC pulled out the frisbee but his dreams were swiftly squashed.

As YHC mentioned during COT, it is a privilege to be a part of this group. Thanks for pushing me to be stronger and to be a better version of myself.

    Announcements:

    Peace…I’m out!

  • Rainy Improv

Seven fearless regulars and one bold FNG descended on NoToll this morning for a wet start to the day.  In an attempt to keep the PAX as dry as possible, here’s what transpired….

    Mosey to pavilion for COP

    SSH x 25

    DQ x 15

    Imperial Walkers x 15

    LBCs x 30

    Merkins x 12

    Onslaught of 11s

11s were slightly modified…perform both exercises at pavilion before running the field and back

Round 1: Box jumps and WWII situps

    Plankorama

Round 2: Derkins and Box cutters

    Plankorama

Round 3: Inclined merkins and American hammers

Mosey back to the invisible flag for numberama, namerama, etc.

YHC had, what he thought was, a decent beatdown lineup for NoToll this morning.  However, pounding rain woke YHC up at 4:30 and thoughts of keeping the PAX dry and improv ensued. YHCs M thought he was a bit on the slow side for heading out this morning…but duty calls. Arrival at NoToll found Rosie and Gumbo already present and YHC was relieved to not be leading a workout of one. Five more (including an FNG) arrived right on time.

Knowing how much water the NoToll fields hold, YHC thought some rounds of modified 11s would be welcomed. The modification (that is, performing both exercises before running) brought about some confusion from the PAX (including YHC) but that’s what you get when improvising.  The cool rain seemed to be invigorating and the PAX crushed the workout.  YHC figures it won’t rain every Tuesday and his planned beatdown will make at an appearance at some point.

Welcome to GED (FNG-Dan). Way to be for posting first on a rainy morning.

    Announcements

  • As Simple As Possible…But No Simpler

Fifteen fierce veterans descended on WDog on a strangely cool late June morning for YHC’s VQ.

    Here’s what went down:

Mosey to circle by the amphitheater for COP:

    • SSH x 30 (because YHC forgot to stop counting at 25)
    • Don Quixote x 12
    • Hillbillies x 20
    • Merkins x 12
    • LBCs x 20

Quick mosey to top of the amphitheater.  PAX performs 5 derkins and 5 dips at each step on the way down and then 1 box jump burpee at each step on the way up.

    Plankorama.

    BLIMPS at the Carillon:

    • Burpees x 10
    • Lunges x 15 (each leg)
    • Imperial Walkers x 20 (each leg)
    • Merkins x 25
    • Plank Jax x 30
    • Squats (jump squats) x 35

In between each exercise, run up and around the back of the Carillon.

    Plankorama.

    BEAST:

PAX performs 6 of each exercise at the 25-50-75, run to the end of the field, turn around, and repeat for each round.

    • Round 1 – Merkins
    • Round 2 – Merkins (Offshore)
    • Round 3 – WWII Sit-ups (Swirly)
    • Round 4 – Carolina Dry Docks (Sippy)
    • Round 5 – Crunchy Frogs (Lab Rat)

    Numberama, Namerama, COT

    NMS

YHC arrived at the AO 15 minutes early this morning to doublecheck that the amphitheater was not overgrown with weeds but mainly to see if YHC could beat Swirly. No such luck. Swirly and Bleeder were chillin’ out like they’d been there since 4:30.

Since this was my VQ, YHC slept very little last night going over the exercises in my head.  YHC received varying degrees of advice when it came to his first Q: make it as hard as possible, make it simple, have a theme, etc. Ultimately, YHC went with as simple as possible…but no simpler.  I’m pretty sure that’s an Einstein quote and who am I to argue with Einstein.

YHC had more than enough exercises planned than 45 minutes would allow.  Even so, I was surprised by how quickly the PAX crushed what I threw at them.  In the lead were the usual suspects (Hardywood, Swirly, Sippy, Offshore, ….forgive me if I left your name out).  Lab Rat was looking for a pattern in my counts during COP.  It was nothing but randomness, however. The descent/ascent of the amphitheater was straightforward enough and the PAX seemed to appreciate my consistent counts of the exercises for each step. The BLIMPS went well enough although there was some disagreement over whether YHC said to start with 5 or 10 burpees. The Beast went off without a hitch but only 5 of 6 rounds were completed due to running out of time.  Offshore was dying to get his 800 merkins in today and opted for two rounds of merkins.

Very little mumble chatter this morning…should YHC take that as a compliment?

It was a privilege to lead this morning! YHC has been wanting to Q but needed a VQ week to really motivate me. Thanks to Offshore and Wheelbarrow for making a point to come out this morning and support YHC for his VQ.
