  • Around the World devolves into Duck, Duck, Goose

    14 Regulars posted for a glorious NoToll workout on a perfect Midlothian morning. The workout was rumored to go something like this:

    Mosey to larger parking lot for COP: SSHs, DQs, Ukranian Soldiers, Imperial Squat Walkers, Bob and Weaves, Dead Cockroaches, Hello Dollies, Capital Letters to spell out “Eagles vs Chiefs sucks”, Shoulder Taps

    Mosey to soccer field for The Beast: Merkins, Monkey Humpers, Squats, LBCs, Flutter Kicks, 2 Burpees + 4 SSHs….with some Bear Crawls and Lunges mixed in, as well

    Circle up for Around The World: Lunge in a stationary circle while listening to “Around the World” by Daft Punk….alternate by running around the circle, which quickly devolved into Duck, Duck, Goose….and OC took it a step further by playing his own version that was more like Goose, Goose, Goose

    Mosey to bleachers and partner up for Triple Check: step-ups, shoulder taps, run width of field

    Time called early to mosey back to Ellwoods shovel flag.

    Frozen Triangle this Saturday

    Reach out to friends in the St. Christophers, St. Catherines, and CCV communities following a freakish accident that resulted in the death of a woman YHC’s age. YHC actually knew Crandall as a middle and high schooler. She was walking back to her car Friday morning after being at the CCV gym and was struck by a car reversing out of the parking lot at very low speed. She fell and hit her head and did not survive. Very sadly, the driver knows her and her family very well. She was a mother of 3 older kids (2 high schoolers and 1 in college). Stay aware, folks…and look out for one another. This tragedy is just awful.

    Stay at front loop for Bearimeter: Partner up, Bear Crawl or Run to bear crawl around parking lot islands as a group of 2. Repeato as lunges.

    Run loop around school and back to virtual shovel flag.

  • Very Little Planned as Always

    The single digit temperatures measured by Tzatziki’s car were just a facade to the Sunny and 70 morning at Timberwolf. YHC ran 2 red lights to arrive with 30 seconds to spare. 3 other redwoods were assembled for a Timberwolf beatdown that went something like this:

    Mosey to hill for Modified Jacob’s Ladder: 2 burpees at top, 2 burpees at bottom. Repeat until told to stop.

    Mosey to back of school for Lightpost Alley: Run to next light post, execute called exercise, back to start for 10 WW2s, increase reps by 5 at each light post: 5 burpees, 10 something, 15 something else, 20 dry docks maybe, 25 monkey humpers probably, 30 something, and 35 something else

    Mosey to wall for 90 seconds of Wall Walkers

    Mosey back to virtual shovel flag.

    Quick COT and Hermie took us out.

    Thanks for allowing me to lead and arrive as hot as it gets. That was as cold a workout as I can remember. Way to get out there, boys.

    Dumar recounted some fun tales of going to a Green Bay Packers game in Wisconsin as a younger man. Good times.

    9 warriors assembled in the gloom, most to set off on a run.

    Rumor has it that the 3 boot campers accomplished a Hot Potato Q as follows:

    Touch a Tree – up to 6, different trees each time, alternate between 20 monkey humpers & 20 capital letters upon return

    Number Relay: 1-6, various exercises up and back on track

    Mosey to field house for another Triple Check: run to sign, wall sit, donkey kick

    We’re lucky to have this group of men pushing each other each morning. We all have things going on in our lives; thank goodness for the constant that is F3 in the mornings.

  • Not enough for Ultimate

    Apologies for the delayed back blast. YHC has loads of excuses for the delay. Hit me up if you want to hear some.

    4 SOJ regulars assembled at NoToll for a summer beat down. YHC was assuming there would be enough for a lovely game of ultimate frisbee, but you know what the say about assuming. 2 on 2 is no good, so a boot camp it was. Rumor is that it went down something like this:

    Mosey to basketball court for COP: SSH, DQs, stop, wait…aren’t there some bricks leftover in the woods? mosey to woods to pick up bricks, return to COP: DQs, brick layer medley, several rounds with no recollection of exact exercises performed.

    1 way 11s: Line up against fence for donkey kicks, run prisoner style with bricks to other side of court for 1 burpee (always only 1 burpee). Ascend donkey kicks to 11. audibles for taking/leaving bricks as we proceeded. Such a dumb exercise. Maybe the dumbest yet.

    Return to COP for more bricklayer round robin exercises.

    Put bricks back, mosey to bleachers, pay toll, mosey on

    Triple Check for 1: perform exercises like it was a triple check, but stay together to socialize.

    Dips on bleachers, WWIIs, run across field and back x 4

    Pole smokers, conveyor belt, run around island and return x 2

    DTH invited everyone to share their most embarrassing story while socializing….YHC took him seriously and shared a story involving George Herbert Walker Bush. Ask YHC, not the others.

  • It’s Been a While…

    Spring Break absences required YHC to step up for the first time in months. Shame on him. Let’s change that trim.

    Source of Truth has been super well attended recently, but Spring Break took it’s toll. 9 redwoods assembled, 3 broke away to run, and 6 followed YHC and the workout was rumored to go down like this:

    Slaughter Start: 10 burpees OYO

    Mosey to front of Midlo Middle for COP: SSHs, DQs, Soldiers, Bob & Weave. Down for some ab work, but YHC called for slow counts…and it was not well received. Flutterkicks, BoxCutters, LBCs

    Prisoner Run to Midlothian Village parking lot for Lunge-a-Thon: 60s forward, 60s backward

    Prisoner Run to adjacent church and almost get killed planking. Run across Coalfield Rd to neighboring church.

    Big Ole Beast – using drive from back of parking lot to Midlothian Turnpike, just like a regular beast but pause at each of 6 parking lot island, perform 4 or called exercise, proceed to next island, touch end line and go back to start. Most rounds were 4 reps x 6 islands x 2 lengths per go…except for the burpees. Everyone but Swordfish (ran out of time) called for an exercise:

    DK- Monkey Humper

    Rosie – Merkin

    Escobar – Burpees (audible to 1 per island)

    OC – Sprints, rest for 10s, sprint again

    Heist – something amazing that YHC can’t remember

    Bearimeter – partner up and bear crawl around circuit as a team, other guy runs backwards loop, meet up and switch off. and reverso

    Continue Lunge-a-thon on the way back to Midlo Middle

    Use another island for a Conveyor Belt: plank shuffle to left then back to right

    Bump into runners on way back to flag.

    Halftime – Mary in the middle of the field: LBCs, Box Cutters, X’s & O’s

    Thanks for entertaining YHC with the ultimate. The field was smaller for 4 vs 4, but the running was just the same. YHC’s watch measured 8000+ steps by the time he got home.

    10 Boot Campers & 4 runners emerged from their automobiles and were met with 70 degree temperatures and sunny skies @ SOT this morning. The Boot Campers didn’t run with the runners, but they ran all the same. Here’s what’s rumored to have occurred:

    Mosey around Midlo Middle. Lots of mumblechatter regarding amount of running before the lap concluded

    COP: SSHs, DQs, Merkins, Boxcutters (slow & fast), X’s & O’s

    Field Trip Mosey across adjacent shopping center parking lot to church parking lot

    Partner up for BEARimeter: BearCrawl loop around 3 parking lot islands with partner, switch when runner catches up. Repeato with CrawlBear loop around 2 parking lot islands

    Grab a piece of curb for Toe Taps IC

    Mosey back to shopping center parking lot

    Line up to Lunge Uphill for 60s

    Mosey back to Midlo Middle, proceed around back of school and down to track.

    2 lines on goal line for Over/Unders: first guy runs 5 yards then elbow planks, next guy in line runs over elbow planker, runs additional 5 yards then gets in Fudd’s Wife’s pose. Next go goes over, then under, then runs 5 yards and elbow planks. Repeato until you’re the last guy and carry on until the end of the field. Race the other line of PAX. There was damn near a mutiny.

    Lap of Insubordination.

    Stop at bleachers for Tiabattas: Dips x8, then Step Ups or Box Jums x8

    The mumblechatter was deafening.

    14 redwoods gathered for a SOT beatdown.

    YHC rolled in hot and we were off.

    Apparently not everyone was bootcamping, as a splinter group of 4 headed West on Midlothian Trnpk.

    Circle up for COP: SSHs, DQs, Imperial Walkers, 5 Burpees OYO, Russian Soldiers, Tempo Merkins, Boxcutters, Crab Cakes

    Mosey to adjacent shopping center

    Partner up for Touch a Tree: Touch 1 tree, return, switch, plank of some description until partner returns. Increase by 1 tree each round up to 5, not touching the same tree twice

    Mosey across Coalfield Rd to church parking lot

    Different Partner up for Touch a Tree: same as above, but non-running partner performs Prisoner Get-Ups

    Mosey to middle of parking lot for 2 rounds of Space Invaders: Forward Lunge for bullets and Bob & Weaves for the Alien Ships

    Use the same space for 2 rounds of Sharks & Minnows, Bear Crawl style. 2 sharks vs PAX until everyone is tagged.

    Mosey back to shopping center, drop for a Crawl Bear between 2 random parking lot lights

    Take a piece of curb at shopping center for Curb Crawl: Dips & Merkins, up to 4 and back

    Mosey to the back of the school, down to the track to the grass hill

    Jacob’s Ladder: run up and down hill with ascending Burpees up to 5 and back down
