  • Cold air, clear trails, can’t lose!

A trio of varsity ballers gathered in the Pump House parking lot to conquer the cold. Heres how they did it:

North Bank to T Pott to Buttermilk to Nickel Bridge.

Beautiful sunrise, great 2d F and no ice on the trails, and YHC timed his coffee intake/dump output perfectly … what more could you ask for?

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

Make it a great one, gents.

  • The Spice Trail

On a 70 degree (Kelvin) and soon-to-be sunny morning, a six-pax hit the trails of the James River Park System. Called route: South Bank to T-Pott bridge to North Bank. Mileage, pace and direction varied, but 6.5 miles +/- achieved.

Numbers, names, YHC took us out. Announcements – Nancy Lopez Respect Week of Qs and HDHH at Triple Crossing SOJ upcoming. Continued prayers for Durden and his M.

Coffeteria and 2dF afterwards. YHC ate a turmeric ginger blondie at ETs. Sally ate a frozen poopsicle on the trail. Both were satisfied customers.

    Make it a great one!

  • River Run Reverso

Two gloom warriors shed the fartsack this morning to run by (sort of) the river – here’s how it went:

4 mile Reverse Tarrington: up Twin Team, along Old Powderham, across Robious to Tarrington entrance, along Ashwell and the Ashwell Loop, right on Sherford and BTTF for some Old Man Stretches.

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

NMMS: many thanks to Boberry for the company and wise counsel during our run. It’s always a privilege to start the day with you HIMs.

    Make it a great one!

  • Twin Team/Tarrington Tour de Reverse

A trio of SOJ studs posted to River Run to start their week right. Here’s how it went down/up:

    Reverse Tarrington:

    • 4s – BWES to Twin Team Hill, cross Robious and enter Tarrington at Ashwell, run the loop and BTTF.
    • Doozy – As above, but keep circling back to pick up the sixes

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

Prayers for all struggling with COVID, and for the families with kids starting back at school and college. TAPs!

NMMS: When Doozy says “I’m going to take it slow today,” he means a 7:30 pace. Singer, thanks for the company while we watched the neon-legged jackrabbit dwindle into the distance ….

  • Snow Toll

Schools, highways and offices may be closed, but not the fields of No Toll. Here’s how it went down for a pair of frost giants –

[Cold]arama – slow mosey to the pavilion for Ironclad Disclaimer (TM) and SSH, Helicopters, Imperial Walkers, Don Quixotes, Russian Soldiers, Freddie Mercuries, Sugar Stix, Alabama Prom Dates

    The THANG

      • 3. Imperial Walkers x 30
      • 4. Merkins x 40
      • 5. Plank Jacks x 50
      • 6. Squats x 60

BTTF – numbers, names YHC took us out.

NMMS: Fistbump to Snuff for earning the Frostbite Merit Badge; with a little mumble chatter, even burpees in the snow can be bearable. TAPs to all the brothers who were there in spirit but couldn’t make it due to quarantine or otherwise.

    Hang in there gents!

  • Actually, downhill into the wind was worse …

A grizzled fifty-something, with more subcutaneous bodyfat than sense, rolled into Bettie Weaver ES to see what the day would bring. Survey says ….. rain, sleet and a big &#%@ hill.

Up Twin Team, right onto E. Brigstock, turn at 22:00 and BTTF. My slow-ass pace made the 4 mi route more of a 3 mi one , but hey — me vs. me.

NMMS: I really didn’t want to post today. Like, REALLY didn’t want to post, despite the 70 degree and sunny conditions. But I need the miles and I need the self discipline. And man oh man that coffee tasted good once I got home. And at least I wasn’t doing burpees in this stuff like Bodos, Handshake and the other eight knuckleheads who posted for Hoedown.

    Ride for the brand, caballeros!

  • Jerkin’ It Behind the Bleachers

According to a traumatized CPS bus driver, eight middle aged dudes were huddled behind the bleachers at Midlothian Middle while four others peeped the windows in the surrounding neighborhoods – here’s what went down, more or less:

Warmarama – SSH, IW, Helicopters, DQ, Freddie Mercuries, APDs

Thang 1 – mosey to the bus lot for XXL parking space tracers

Thang 2 – mosey to the front of the stadium bleachers for 11s: 1 x copperhead squat, bear crawl up the hill, 10 x incline merkins, crab walk down; etc.

Thang 3 – mosey across the field to the Bleachers of Ill Repute for some Nikki, the short and nasty cousin of Crossfit’s Nichole: AMRAP jerkins on the back of the bleachers + 400m lap, repeat for 10 minutes

Thang 4 – mosey to the concession/bathroom building for a Doublecheck(TM): PAX1 does hand release merkins, PAX2 up the hill and back; flapjack and repeato x 1

BTTF for some cool down broga: janu sirsasana, reclining pigeon, apasana (knees to the chest, a/k/a the “Wind Release Pose” — for real), happy baby.

Runners returned from a 5.8 mile jaunt.

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

Announcements: 1st, 2nd and 3rdF field trip this Saturday for the Bridge AO in Dillwyn/Buckingham – Vinny has the Q. Clown cars depart from Twin Team at 06:00, return around 11:00. See post by Vinny on Slack for more info.

Honeymoon is bringing Murph back to Twin Team – last Friday of every month; be there or be square.

Thanks gents for allowing me to lead this morning; make it a great one!

  • Swamp Striders

YHC felt the need for speed (sort of) today, so River Run featured a jaunt to the JRHS track for some striders. Here’s how it went:

1/2 mi mosey to the track

1 mi strider; fast on the turns, slower on the straights

    1/4 mi recovery

1 mi strider; fast on the straights, slower on the turns

    1/4 mi recovery

1 mi strider; slow to fast on each lap

    1/2 mi mosey BTTF

NMMS: Thank you, member of the JRHS custodial staff who left the men’s room unlocked. You averted disaster.

  • Easy like [Mon]day morning …

A post-Sunday Funday yoga mishap left YHC with a gimpy lower back, right about where the tramp stamp would go. Instead of making things worse with a trip up Twin Team hill, YHC decided to head to the Swamp for some active-recovery laps around the track.

    Make it a great one!
