  • No Heidi Disruption

Forty-eight years ago football fans on the east coast were abruptly deprived from seeing two fourth quarter touchdowns scored in nine seconds to lift the Raiders over the Jets – NBC programmers decided the public’s entertainment thirst was best quenched with a Heidi showing. No such disruption at Circus Maximus this morning where five grunting gladiators hoisted the iron to welcome the rising sun.

Announcements #1: Pre-Game 0645 at GridIron – part 6 of Armor of God – Cecil will Q and add the Helmet of Salvation to our growing spiritual armament. Not necessary to have attended previous sessions – we welcome those who want to give it a try. 2.0 friendly workout to follow under Honey Do’s Q.

Announcement #2: Join a clown car to F3 Hampton Road’s AO at Mount Trashmore; weekday workout has started at F3 Hampton Roads – see DreamLiner or F3 Richmond’s own NightCrawler for details.

Attila closed us with prayer of supplication – that we yearn to be the instrument of God’s great love.

    Moleskin:

A number of the PAX channeled their best Monica Seles as grunting was aplenty in the CM house this morning. And White Deer, egged on by Johnsonville, added the chorus by sticking with his Blazing Saddles repetoire.

Nice to have Toga with us whose prescience led him to a CM that involved absolutely zero ambulation.

GridIron will miss J’Ville and Attila this Saturday. Safe travel blessings to both. Attila celebrates Thanksgiving with his annual Bear Bryant pilgrimage. With rain in the forecast for Saturday, is it any wonder that J’Ville has an overnight trek planned with son somewhere in SNP?

    Stand Firm.

  • All F’s on this Report Card

It was a dark and wet day at the Gridiron, but it was a fabulous morning as the Pax participated in all 3 F’s under the VQ of YHC (Attila). PreGame started with a look at Mark 10:35-45 and edification of our Faith. The Pax were reminded of the collision of our pride and ego with our calling to be selfless and servant leaders.

Fitness followed, and here is how it went down:

    The Thang:

    25 SSH IC
    25 DQ IC
10 Pan pax 8 count body builders
    25 Helicopers IC
    25 IW IC

Announcements – Convergence at DogPile next Saturday; 0600 for DoubleDippers, 0700 for others wishing to mark the 2 Year (107th week) of F3RVA. J’ville encouraged the Pax to engage in an EH spree to set a new standard. Further discussions concerning F3RVA support of the F3 Tidewater startup – contact J’Ville about supporting roles.

YHC closed us with a prayer seeking servants hearts for the Pax and the conquest of selflessness over selfishness.

    Moleskin:

It was great to have Earthworm with us. While he is still under strict supervision by his physician (and better half), he has been missed at F3 workouts. His leadership on the 1st F of the day was awesome. Looking forward to more of these devotions as the fall rolls on.

NightCrawler continues to post and continues to grow stronger. His dips and donkey kicks are textbook. Take note PAX. It is great to have him regularly posting at Gridiron.

WhiteDeer and Johnsonville picked up where they left off on Thursday. It was great competition that added some flavor to the workout. Just a reminder, the QIC does not assume any liability for injuries incurred as a result of testosterone-fueled duels.

Cecil showed great speed on the ending “burn-out” dashes – the QB clearly played some Corner in his glory days. Good work going hard the full 60.

YHC overestimated the drainage of the middle fields. After keeping us dry and clean for most of the workout, mudflaps should have been issued for the final runs. The PAX’s speed, which was already questionable, was severely hampered. Goggles and swim caps might have been more useful than running shoes.

Extended Coffeeteria at Einsteins – the fellowship was a great way to end GridIron and start our Saturday.

For a virgin Q, hitting all F’s was the way to go.

Jesus said: “Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant and whoever wants to be first must be a slave to all.” Mark 10:43-44

  • Pokemon Lost

The Glory of Creation was on full display on the drive to the GridIron this morning – no gloom, just the wonderment of a sublime tangerine sun welcomed a strong 8. One of the Faithful posted from Suffolk, having been transplanted from Charleston and the rigors F3SC, eager to partake in all that is F3RVA! The prior clarion call for KettleBells, Medicine Balls, and Jump Ropes was heeded. With no postings by the Quad-Hate progeny, YHC scuttled the diversionary Pokemon inspired gambit designed to introduce basic orienteering (and keep the young men safely occupied away from the perils of the KB squared circle) and converted same to individual interstitial recovery missions. Circus Maximus (and lost and found) at the GridIron went something like this:

    The Thang:

    EMOM 10:

    Group A:
    X5 – X10 KB American Swings
X5 – X10 KB Squat and High Pulls
    X5 – X10 KB Squat and Presses

    Group B:
    X20 Merkins

Alternating groups Rinse and Repeat for full EMOM 10 – 5 sets of each of 2 groups on alternating minutes.

The PAX do alternating planks as Seymour runs a recovery mission to retrieve Pokemon at Control Point Alpha.

    EMOM 10:

    Group A:
X5 – X10 KB Right Arm Rack Left Lunge
X5 – X10 KB Left Arm Rack Right Lunge
    X10 KB Triceps Presses

    Group B:
    Jump Rope (some virtual)

Alternating groups Rinse and Repeat for full EMOM 10.

The PAX do Supermans (cruising, stream-lined, and flaps down styles all in honor of DreamLiner, and under the choral direction of Attila) as Johnsonville runs a recovery mission to retrieve Pokemons at Control Points Bravo and Charlie.

    The 200:

    X25 Pole Smokers
    X25 KB Right Snatches
    X25 CDDs and Pole Smokers
    X25 KB Left Snatches
    X25 Pole Smokers
    X25 KB Right Swings
    X25 CDDs and Pole Smokers
    X25 KB Left Swings

The PAX do CDDs (under the direction of White Deer) as FlipPhone runs a recovery mission to retrieve Pokemons at Control Points Delta and Echo.

    EMOM 10:

    Group A:
    X7 – X10 KB Halos Clockwise
    X10 KB Tricep Presses
    X7 – X10 KB Halo Counter-Clockwise

    Group B:
    Medicine Ball Chest Pass
    Medicine Ball Rock and Rolls

Alternating groups Rinse and Repeat for full EMOM 10.

The PAX do alternating planks as Attila runs the final recovery mission to retrieve Pokemon at Control Point Foxtrot.

Announcements: GridIron continues strong at Pouncey Tract and we will ABSOLUTELY meet Saturday September 10 as we eagerly await news of the F3RVA brothers who are poised to slay the BRR!! For the non-BRRers, White Deer is picking up the Q at CM on September 8 – if you haven’t tried CM consider doing same. Borrow or buy a KB and bring it with you Thursdays 0530 at north side of Godwin HS at the bus loop. But beware, WhiteDeer is a killer.

YHC closed us with prayer of thanksgiving and expression and gratitude and supplication for unspoken needs.

    Moleskin:

Great to have Seymour join us this am – late sleepers to the DogPile are one of our specialties. Especially those who bring relentless pugilist-style rope skipping skills and who scoffed at Sully’s Medicine Ball Rock and Roll numbers. Well done, strong strong showing, and terrific fellowship with you this morning.

Speaking of strong showings, DreamLiner did F3SC-Charleston proud this morning. Once the PAX recovered from their envy of a guy with a really cool car, we managed to observe the seemingly effortless assault by DreamLiner on this morning prescription. Gentlemen – this double hatee can bring it and he is all in concerning F3 Tidewater/Hampton Roads. Much of the Coffeeteria involved not so subtle undertakings by Johnsonville to test DreamLiner’s ride – speculation is rampant that J’ville is putting a spoiler on his late model Camry.

NightCrawler posted for his sophomore GridIron and we are grateful to have him and inspired by his output. I looked at WhiteDeer’s BB from last week’s GridIron and a lesser man would have bailed out for a second showing. Not NightCrawler, though, who clearly was comfortable with the 1000 ways to move a KB.

The regulars were their regular selves, workman-like efforts, strong desire to get stronger, and even stronger desire to make the men around them better. WhiteDeer is slowly yet firmly moving into the role of MumbleChatterer-in-Chief, he misses very little, and and has enough creativity to bring levity to our foilables, all while delighting in his own state of Methuselah. The PAX noticed WhiteDeer’s reticence to be tasked to one of the Pokemon recovery missions, gladly leaving the job to the more fleet-footed PAX. FlipPhone, of course, ran and executed his mission exceedingly well, though he at first balked at the diamond-based coordinates to exfil the Pokemons at his Control Points Delta and Echo (where’s the left field foul pole?). Same with Johnsonville whose soccer-centric world view was worsened by the additional distraction of vehicular envy. But not Attila – a real baseball man who swooped in on the hot corner and delivered his Pokeman safely back to the virtual ShovelFlag, after 55 minutes of adding considerable reps to the Q’s suggested EMOM ranges.

The aborted Pokemon plan involved actual vintage playing cards left behind by YHC’s adult children (both older than DreamLiner – ouch!). Talk at Coffeeteria about another kid convergence at GridIron involving Pokemon card seeking and other activities (with eyes off electronics and no more headstands except for Flipper) designed to challenge our kids minds, body, and spirits. Stay tuned and please feel free to step up – room for more than a single Q here.

J’Ville closed us with prayer of thanksgiving; continued prayer for Toga’s father and family.

    Moleskin:

Full moon today so the Luna Plena was repeated with some minor modifications. Same result – all business and quick pace with lots of reps (minimum x500 KB reps plus x150 body weight reps).

Glad to Flip Phone out for his first Circus Maximus posting – solid showing.

White Deer and Chum Bucket set the pace in the 300. J’Ville and Attila were strong and are getting stronger. Discussions regarding weight increases. Nice work by all.

A great start to the day with the PAX looking forward to a White Deer ground and pound Q at the GridIron.

  • Minority Report

Four GridIron regulars, including our good friend PigSkin from F3 Charlotte, gathered at the appointed time for a workout that went, sort of, like the following:

Announcements, including Convergence at DogPile at 0700 next Saturday followed by Grow School; Atilla will try to “cover Q” the GridIron.

Travel blessings for PigSkin as he heads home today and for J’Ville on his epic Odyssey; expressions of ongoing concern for White Deer as he recovers and for Toga’s father and those who minister to him; and unspoken needs and concerns.

    Prayer by YHC.

    Moleskin:

Usually the Cricketeers look strangely upon the PAX as we do our Thang once we approach the diamonds located at the back of the school. A new addition, today, were the Volleyballers posting for some early beach-style play. The big surprise, though, was that the Volleyballers swelled in numbers from about 10 at 0655 to 50+ when the PAX arrived back at the Pavilion for the True Grid and Mary. We need to re-double our EHing on this group – clearly Top Five EH Excuse No. 3 is not an issue here; choice of footwear may be.

Strong efforts by the Pax today – sweat stain replicas of F3 marks were observed in several of the PAX deadpools. The KB Farmer’s Carries were a welcome wrinkle to the moseying.

Coffeeteria of two this morning – small numbers, big fellowship.

  • Stepping Forward

Five of the Faithful posted at the GridIron this morning for a return of the Fibonacci Sequence. Here it is:

Announcements – (1) Convergence at DogPile at 0700 in two weeks (August 6). Double Dip option at 0600. Grow School following Convergence; (2) Need for “cover” Q at GridIron for August 6 – post at GridIron at 0655 in case of unexpected FNG posting; if no shows head to DogPile Convergence at 0701; and (3) Chum Bucket has under consideration a possible change to The Punisher’s start time to 0600 (but for now The Punisher will commence at normal start time of 0530 — stay tuned).

    Unspoken prayer concerns.

Prayer of gratitude offered by YHC.

    Moleskin:

Great to have Flipper back to the GridIron for his second posting in the West End – it appears that the first and last time we did the Sequence was at Flipper’s inaugural GridIron post. Sorry for the repeat, but we enjoyed your strong showing. Also, YHC appreciates the complimentary hand a wrist adjustment!

Also great to have Cecil back for a strong follow up to his Kotter last week – strong work today.

Chum Bucket graciously allowed for rounding on the Box Cutters, though his execution of same paid homage to sharp right angles. Clinical precision.

Attila rescued YHC during the back end of the Descent by seizing the Q and leading the Pax to the finish. Well done Attila, and thanks. Small ball Qism is welcome – you’re between second and third base and heading home!

    Coffeeteria at Einsteins

  • Luna plena at the Circus Maximus

Seven of the able-bodied Faithful posted at the CM under a stunning full moon and ideal conditions. There was little time for pleasantries though, of course, there was a pithy and code compliant welcome and disclaimer. We got right at it as follows:

    Thang:

    1st Quarter – 10 Minute EMOM:

    Odd Minutes:
    X5+ KB American Swings
X5+ KB Squat and High Pulls
    X5+ KB Squat and Presses

    Even Minutes:
X5+ KB Right Arm Rack Left Lunge
X5+ KB Left Arm Rack Right Lunge
    X5+ KB Triceps Presses

Farmer’s Carry One Lap of The CM – Single KB (alternating R to L)

    2d and 3d Quarters – The 300:

    X25 Pole Smokers
    X25 KB Right Snatches
    X25 Merkins
    X25 KB Left Snatches
    X25 Air Squats
    X25 KB Right Swings
    X25 APDs
    X25 KB Left Swings
    X25 CDDs
X25 KB Right Clean and Presses
    X25 Curtsey Lunges
X25 KB Left Clean and Presses

Farmer’s Carry One Lap of The CM – Single KB (alternating R to L)

    4th Quarter – 10 Minute EMOM:

    Odd Minutes:
    X5-X10 KB Halos Clockwise
    X5-X10 KB Tricep Presses
    X5-X10 KB Halo Counter-Clockwise

    Even Minutes:
    X5-X10 KB Pull overs
    X5-X10 KB WWII Sit-ups
    X5-X10 KB Seated Presses

Farmer’s Carry One Lap of The CM – Two KBs OR Two Laps Run of the CM

    COT:

    Counterama and Namearama

Announcements: (1) BRR (see TYA re possible open slots), ReeseStrong 5K (see Phonics or D’Ville PAXters), and Spartan Race (see Toga); (2) Grow school August 6 following special DogPile Convergence at 0700am.

Toga closed us with prayer and set us out to the workday committed to seek all things good. Special prayer for Toga’s father – appeal to the Great Physician.

    Moleskin:

All business today – quick pace.

Glad to have J’ville back from canoe excursion in the Boundary Waters. Also nice to have Jolly Rancher (War Baby) for the first youth posting at the Circus Maximus – well done JR. BTW, J’Ville gives credit to CM for his ability to one-arm hoist his canoe through portage trails requiring serious bushwacking.

White Deer (War Daddy) accepted condolences as he marks his 55.

Attila appears to have posted early this am and asked who’s Qing? Learning that it was YHC he uttered something like: “Oh good, I won’t need to lock my car as it will surely be within arm’s reach for the entire workout.” Just 45 minutes later – on the elective two lap run of the CM at the end of the workout – Toga was observed running an extra half lap to usher Attila to the COT – just saying.

Rosie claims one of the PAX duped him into false starting during the EMOM 10s – the more discerning PAX know better and viewed Rosie’s conduct as part of a purposeful effort to deprive the heavy KB-toting Toga of any meaningful recovery.

The workout was solid, the fellowship strong. Great way to start the day with each one of you. Blessings.

  • Norsemen, Romance Novel Cover Model, and Discount Shopper at the GridIron

Strong showing at the GridIron on a comfortable morning – 12 strong men ranging from 12 yo to 57 yo, including 2 Kotters from the September 2015 Convergence, 2 aspiring Vikings from Charlotte North, 2 FNGs, and 3 father-son teams. The doubling of the anticipated 6 Faithful resulted in a toy box shortage so we adapted and improvised with something like the following (errors and omissions the responsibility of YHC):

    Welcome and disclaimer

    Thang:

#97 Mario Addison Tribute: straight sprints and pursuit angles

    COT:

    Countarama and Namearama

Takeout prayer by Ashe – thanksgiving for the Iron sharpening

    Eisntein’s for Coffeeteria

    Moleskin:

Sully (FNG Kevin) set the high bar on the MB Rock and Roll Squats – 18. Strong, strong young man (also shirt averse – reportedly allergic to all conceivable fibers used in upper body coverings) who was EHd (and nearly Starsky’ed) by his “just in time” arriving pop, Cecil, who also earned double cred for strong-arming Ashe (War Daddy) for their Kotteresque posting. Both Cecil and Ashe were disappointed that “that guy with the selfie stick camera” (Abacus) was absent – apparently these two guys require video evidence that they swallowed the RedPill.

5 and Dime (FNG Mike) was EH’d by his friend, the reserved Moses, and posted strong as a warmup for his tennis match later today. 5 and Dime lives in the same neighborhood as White Deer (and other Faithful like Johnsonville and DK) so we look forward to future postings by 5 and Dime at GridIron and F3 RVA’s other AOs – NoToll, Source of Truth, etc. Speaking of that hood, all are reminded of DK’s Q around Lake Salisbury this Wednesday for HDHH – see Pre-Blast for more info.

The MumbleChatter did not suffer today – unlike his Biblical namesake, the F3 Isotope version of Moses was not slow of speech, and certainly did not need a brother speaking for him. The PAX are perplexed by Mose’s firm apologetics for Team Pitino and his polemics in response to the PAX’s sometimes use of an assumed name for the Alabama Prom Dates – Louisville Recruiting Thrusts. Nonetheless, the GridIroners were grateful that Moses and his youngblood, WolfGang, began their Icelandic Saga at the GridIron. The F3 RVA PAX send back from the wilderness our warm regards to Blue and the brothers in F3 Charlotte North.

Ragweed and Yale (War Baby) was the other father and son posting. Yale scoffed at the lower weight alternatives to the KBs and cleaned clock on the Bear Crawls. Ragweed was simply grateful that no one was sneezing around him (or on him) this time.

As is custom, FlipPhone dialed in strong – makes everything look effortless, just like his epic hiking: up, down or ridge are all the same to this one pace wonder.

The #97 Tribute was well-received in its sophomore showing (http://thebiglead.com/2016/02/07/mario-addison-jordan-norwood-don-beebe-super-bowl/). Like the MB R&R Squats, it generates some unflattering commentary among the PAX but it’s all good. Certainly, some of the so-called straight sprints defied the PAX’s sense of linear propriety. But WolfGang’s anti-interception technique (“Bend[ing] it like Beckham”) to avoid Mose’s pursuit was both intense and amusing. Attila perfectly exploited the sudden tail wind that lasted the entirety of his 7 second jaunt; White Deer, while no Lee Majors, made proud all his fellow recipients of bionics.

The improv on the fly was facilitated by the strong leadership of Attila and White Deer – well done and greatly appreciated. Any hiccups squarely on YHC’s shoulders. Toy box shortages are no excuse, so if anyone felt short-changed we promise we’ll make it up next time.

[B]ut those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
    They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

    Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

    Moleskin:

Warm welcome (homecoming) to Epstein, formerly of RVA (Freeman grad) and now residing south of the border. Strong posting for a KBell Virgin – rookie to veteran in about 18 minutes. Epstein’s bringing back to K’Ville best regards to Jordache and others who have posted to the GridIron.

Attila found his groove with the newly introduced MB Rock and Roll Squat – so much that the Pax detected a smile that replaced the more commonly observed yawn.

Some relief from angry Johnsonville’s Q last week and his affection for running generally – we planted the Virtual ShovelFlag at the Pavillion and kept the AO tight with a 75 yard radius. White Deer appreciated the gesture so much he agreed to Q the Circus Maximus on Thursday.

The debut of the 300 was well-received and provided a good test for the Pax – repeats coming so keep your KBells in your cars. Add a MB and jump rope too.

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the LORD.

    Isaiah 31:1

  • Humidity and Goo Alert

Seven of the Faithful posted at the GridIron eager for the workout and the fellowship. No rain (or lighting to which Johnsonville is impervious) but ample humidity. Something like the following ensued:

Pre-game at 0645: Guarding Against The “Yeast” — Oprah Bombs, Goo, and false teachings abound. Be alert for them, guard against them, and stand firm in resisting them.

Chum’s contemplating divinity school to comprehend the difference between a debt and a trespass. Bank attorneys prefer the latter approach.

C-Dubs arrived with visions of Einstein’s in his head – good wheels on that boy as shown in the Triple Check; also demonstrated Houdini-like skills with his remarkable penetration of the Courtyard inner gate.

White Deer – back from from beach vacation and sporting enhanced pigmentation defying his F3 handle.

Chum arrived just in time for J’ville’s mini-Q of the Hillbillies and APDs – you just can’t miss that especially with J’ville’s accent and cadence calls. Self-inspired, J’ville later lead a PAX mutiny by truncating the Courtyard-based Grounded Shoulders Single Leg Hip Thrusts with premature halts.

Glad to have Mr. Roper for his virgin GridIron posting – strong repping of St. Michael’s by Mr. Roper, DK, and
C- Dubs (and YHC as father of two grads).

Coffeeteria at Einsteins – musings of Boy Scout adventures, Lowe’s ingenious marketing, long bike rides at the beach, and Brexit predominated.

Well done, men, as always. Thanks for the privilege of your friendships and encouragements.
