Doing the fast things fast and the slow things slow, running, rocks, muricans, LBCs, jerkins, stretches and Indian arm-wrastlin, etc. Up Satan’s Hill and back down repeatedly. And now Oyster is happy because he is counted for Big Data.

I Get Knocked Down…
Five men braved the near perfect temperatures at Satan’s Hill to push themselves just a little. YHC admits he was a little worried when he pulled into the New Market ‘hood and saw an empty parking lot. If not for Marmaduke saying he wouldn’t post Monday, YHC would have developed a complex.
Begin with SSH, Stretching, Hillbillies etc.
Run around the four corners of New Market (clocked at 8/10ths mile according to the silver Caddy) and finish at the rock pile.
The PAX selected larger than usual rocks for a non-stop, not more than 10 reps workout with Curls for the girls, overhead press, rows, squats, LBCs flutter kicks, dollies, rosalitas, Suzanne Summers, APDs, Jerkins, dips, Irkins, multiple sets. The PAX needed a change.
YHC broke out his greatest hits list and played They Might Be Giants cover of Tubthumping by Chumbawumba, the PAX had to do SSHs during the verses with one burpee per “I get knocked down, but I get up again in the chorus. After burpee 16, Nacy Lopez threatened to crush the speaker with a rock and YHC thought, “this was easier last time I did it 5 years ago.” The count for burpees was in the high 20s. We concluded with some more abs and a trip and a half up Satan’s Hill followed by BTTF for 6 more burpees just to kill the time. By the end even POG was sweating so it must have been OK.
Nancy went through a slew of announcements. YHC took us out in prayer, thanking God for the difficulties in life that he uses to conform us to His image. Oyster gave the workout his seal of approval, except for “that song that’s gonna stick in my head…”

substitute Q
six men showed up to cconquer SH. Parker relinquished the a to go do the Murphy at twin team so the was the substitute a. We ran around, did good form murcans at the intersections stretchedabout, even did suicides in front of pog’s domicile. Used some concrete for curls and presses. Oyster insisted I remember him for big data purposes.

Bear Crawl and Tires
Nine men came to Satan’s Hill on an unseasonable warm Monday morning for a smorgasbord of unusual fitness activity. The New Market turnout was light, presumably because of the 5k the day before (though interestingly the PAX that ran the 5k showed up while the PAX that walked the 5k stayed home….hmmm).
SSH – an unspecified number, just enough to be annoying
‘Muricans, stretches, LBCs etc.
Bear crawl Indian run to the top of SH
‘Muricans and LBCs at the top partner assisted stretches
Regular Indian run back up the hill
‘Muricans and LBCs at the top partner assisted stretches
Mosey to the rockpile for a round of: Curls, military press, ‘muricans, flutter kicks, squats, rock copters, and hitting a tire with a sledge hammer while one member acts as a timer running to the mailbox
Cross the parking lot by having a PAX member toss the tire discus style and everyone bear crawls to the tire for 10 LBCs
One round robin of Indian arm wrestling where we all found out Kelly has extremely good balance
Back across the parking lot with the tire and bear crawl where we found out Parker should have joined the Olympics as a discus thrower, seriously his throw was at least 50% further than the next furthest throw
Sprints to finish up.
Number-ama – Name-o-rama prayers for the family of Lance Corporal Dennis Veater (USMC) who was killed in Iraq 15 years ago (YHC’s nephew).

Big Data Update
11 PAX came out to SH. After an initial warm-up with SSH, and partner assisted stretches we ventured into the heart of New Market stopping at every intersection to do 10 ‘muricans, 10 LBCs and 10 squats followed by partner assisted stretches. The emphasis was on proper form. We ran all the way back to the dark cul de sac and even tried running in cadence in the unoccupied stretch. the results were modest as some of the PAX didn’t understand the left meant, well left. Then Hermie started to channel Gunnery Sgt. Hartman and that was when YHC had to call it a day.

McDLT
9 men arrived at SH ready to work on a beautiful 65 degree day. The theme was the McDLT in honor of the Refrigerator Perry. Keep the hot side hot and the cold side cold. We mixed running with mercans and squats in good form and partner assisted stretching. Based upon the sounds coming from the pax the stretching was greatly needed. For the non stretching types who complain that they aren’t getting a good workout a couple trips up SH cured that.
It was my pleasure to lead today and I look forward to being more active as a Q at SH.

Another Anniversary
12 men braved the perfect weather to post on Satan’s Hill for a special anniversary of the Battle of Leyte Q by YHC.
Warm Up – SSH, Hillbillies (Yee Haw!) and Stretching
Wilson was offered the option of A or B; he chose B so the PAX broke into three lines for a bear crawl Indian Run to the top of Satan’s Hill. Back down and repeat because it was so much fun (the 2nd time was actually a little easier).
At the top again the PAX broke into 2 groups for 4-Corners – Murcans, Carolina Dry Docks, LBC, Squats
Finish and head to the rock pile for Military Press, Curls for the Girls and squats – Rotate to the left with each set, so we could all enjoy the rock Parker chose (Honeymoon commented it was larger than Virginia).
One more trip to the top of SH in the bear crawl Indian Run (that last one put a whole lotta hurtin’ on most of us).
Circle for some focus mitts training, without the mitts, where we learned that Vagabond has some boxing skills inherited from his grandfather and heaven help anybody trying to return a car to Kelly’s lot!
Numberama, Name-o-rama, YHC took us out in prayer.
October 25, 1944- in a segment of the largest naval battle in history, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, known as the battle off Samar a superior Japanese force surprised an overmatched American Task Force. The Japanese had 4 battleships, including the largest battleship ever put to sea, the Yamato, and a number of cruisers and the Americans had 3 destroyers, a Destroyer Escort and some vulnerable Escort Carriers. It looked like the Japanese would have an easy time of it when the USS Johnston (Destroyer) led by Commander Ernest Evans (posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor) turned toward the Japanese fleet to attack. The largest gun the Americans had were 5 inch guns. The Yamato had 18.1 inch guns that weighed more than the entire Johnston. I encourage you to look the battle up as it is one of the most courageous chapters in Naval History.

Vichyssoise
When no scheduled Q showed up, YHC decided to get the PAX started. Vagabond suggested a hot potato Q; but I decided to just take over and serve up some vichyssoise.
Warm up – SSH, Murcans, Other stuff
Up the hill in a bear crawl Indian run.
4 Corners – Murcans, LBC, squats
Back for rock work – Military press, curls for the girls, squats, murcans, planks etc.
One last sprint.

Hammer Time
Eight SH regulars showed up for a special 1,289th anniversary workout remembering the Battle of Poitiers in AD 732.
warmarama: SSH, Cherry Pickers, Mur’cans
1 mile run through scenic New Market.
Rock pile, choose large rock for military press, curls for the girls, bench, flutter kicks , LBCs
Run to top of SH
back for more rock work
Indian bear crawl up SH.
back down for rock work.
one last run up SH.
end with ab workout including the Charles Martel.
COT prayer home.
Throughout the workout YHC told the story of Charles Martel (the hammer) who unified and led the Frank’s as they repelled the invasion of Western Europe by Islamic raiders. October 11, 732 Charles met them outside Poitiers and saved Western civilization. The importance of this battle cannot be overstated and YHC believes all free men would do well to honor the memory of Charles.
