  • Mini Field Trip at Circus

20 “Studs” posted in the gloom at Godwin HS for a Fudd led mini-field trip. Here’s how it went:

COP: SSH’s, DQ’s, Imperial Walkers, Stretches, Cherry Pickers, helicopters, arm circles, and a few other things

Rifle carry your KB south along the alley behind the school, alternating both arms w/single arm. Partner up for Dora….100 curls, 200 single count American Hammers w/KB, 300 double count flutters holding KB overhead. Alternate running to lightpost, do 1 burpee, and return.

Continue carrying KB south….switch to Jordan/KB pass throughs (lunge while passing KB between legs). Circle up for a few different stretches and exercises then get into groups of three for triple check. First man runs to drivers ed lot and back, 2nd man does lawnmower rows, 3rd man does alternating single arm clean & press.

Mosey north the way we came alternating different overhead rifle carries w/KB. Stop at coffee station for a few exercises in cadence. Rifle carry back to flag, circle up for some Mary. Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS:

Reviews were positive from YHC’s last tour of the campus Q so another, slightly different version, was teed up. Post work comments were once again positive as I think it’s good to do something different once an a while. White Deer was in his usual form, although he was seen actually running today at one point (did anyone get a picture?) which was impressive in its own right.

The PAX did an admirable job naming the FNG that attended….”Gold Digger”….which originates from his attendance at UNC Chapel Hill and Bill Bellicheck’s 49 year age gap with current girlfriend, Jordan Hudson. Welcome Gold Digger, and great job today…..AYE!

Announcements: there are still 4 spots available for players in the 100 hole golf challenge to benefit Renewing RVA. See YHC if interested.

Prayers for those that need healing, Mr Rogers friend of a friend who recently took his own life, and prayers of thanksgiving for Gaudi and the Make a Wish foundation for the amazing project they’ve undertaken together to bless Handshake’s niece, Charlotte, by designing and building her a “dream house” which is her one wish that she expressed, given her terminal cancer diagnosis.

We are so blessed to have the ability to get out in the gloom each morning…..let’s keep that front of mind with a grateful attitude….knowing that we aren’t promised tomorrow, and each of us has the ability to bring light into the lives of others if we’ll only keep our eyes open for those opportunities.

It was a pleasure, as always, to lead today. Never stop chasing the wabbit fellas.

  • Hoedown Hot Potato

YHC doesn’t do a good enough job of checking Slack and missed the post about The Deep being on the Summer Tour list for this week, so was indeed surprised to only see Senior Frog’s truck in the lot upon arrival. 5:30 arrived and we were off…..

To the parking lot with the blocks because that’s the newest fad at Hoedown. YHC ran us through a quick disclaimer and COP, halfway through which we were joined by Saltlick. The three of us grabbed some blocks, did some manmakers, and proceeded to hot potato the Q after every exercise to keep it interesting.

After we grabbed the blocks YHC said, “Any ideas on something new or different we can do with these blocks?” Senior Frog smiled and said, “Follow me.” At his direction we then rifle carried to the Rite Aid parking lot, and during the walk YHC was eagerly anticipating whatever Senior Frog was cooking up in his head. But when we got there, the “New and Unique” thing that Senior Frog had cooked up, was simply to go to the Rite Aid parking lot…….”I’ve never worked out here with blocks before”. Fair enough.

Saltlick’s turn…..rifle carry over to the Tuckahoe Shopping Center and do some exercises in the lot. Rifle carry back to Rite Aid and do lunges, curls, and block swings across the lot. Rifle carry back to the original lot and do a bunch of manmakers, more lunges, overhead presses, sit and press, more rifle carry…….at one point Senior Frog said, “I’m really smoked from all those rifle carries…..let’s do some more.” Copy that.

We were all sufficiently smoked by the end, returning the blocks to the pile and moseying back to the VSF for some Mary before numberama, namerama, and YHC took us out with prayers for Senior Frog’s friend Bob who has throat cancer and Saltlick’s family as they navigate a difficult development.

Enjoyed it today fellas. That was one of the tougher workouts I’ve done recently.

    Never stop chasing the wabbit.

  • KB Suicide

12 inspiring men of the gloom brought their KB’s to Circus Maximus to see what Fudd had in store.

    COP

SSH’s, helicopters, stretches, merkins, Ukranian Soldiers, arm circles, Copperhead Squats, and some other stuff

Mosey South down the alley behind the school with KB at rifle carry, circle up midway for a few exercises, continue south and start doing lunges while passing the KB between your legs with each lunge (Fireman Ed named this “Magics”. Stop and do 5 burpees and keep going.

Arrive at the basketball courts and line up on the baseline for KB suicides. Do 5 reps of an exercise, run to the foul line and back, do 6 reps and run to the top of the key and back, do 7 reps and run to half court, 8 reps and the far top of the key, 9 reps and the far foul line, 10 reps and the far base line and back. Rinse and repeat for 5 sets of KB exercises…. Curls, Squats, Swings, High Pulls, & High Press.

Mosey back north around the west side of the school, stopping along the way to do various Mary exercises, arriving back at the VSF just past 6:15.

COT, Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

Memorial Day Convergence at Tredegar/VA War Memorial on Monday. Prayers for those in need of healing.

TClaps to Mr. Rogers for doing the coffee in Offshore’s absence.

It was an honor to lead. Thoughts for the brave that fought and died to keep us free.

  • New Year’s Resolutions

Twas the day after Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring…not even Fudd…until his alarm went off at 5:04am and he checked the Q sheet to see which AO he’d hit that day. When what to his wondering eyes did appear, but YHC’s name on the Q sheet for 45MOM, and something about a Christmas Eve special…..

YHC arrived to secure the AO and 7 other intrepid souls joined him, including an FNG, to see what special Christmas workout was in store. YHC admitted to not remembering putting his name on the Q sheet, and no explanation could be had for the “Christmas Eve” reference. Regardless, 5:30 arrived and we were off….

COP: SSHs, DQ’s, Helicopters, Susanne Summers, a few Mary exercises, some stretching, etc.

Mosey to the SW side of the school and bear crawl to the NW corner, counting all of the window Christmas lights. Official total was 55.

Mosey to the picknick tables and do 25 reps of step up, on, and down the other side. Mosey to the NW edge of the block for 4 corners around the block…..10 burpees, 20 merkins, 30 monkey humpers, 40 LBC’s. Rinse and repeat.

Mosey to the front of the school for some Mary. Back to the flag for Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS:

As we approach the dawning of a new year, the time seemed apprapo to contemplate some actions that YHC may not want to repeat in 2025. Let’s start with signing up to Q while intoxicated……it’s not a good idea. You probably won’t remember doing it and if you don’t check it often you might miss it all together. Or you might catch it in the nick of time like YHC. Despite the brain fog, the PAX performed admirably today. Hitch crushed the block wide 4 corners, practically begging for a round 2 until YHC relented. FNG Folgers posted with a pink coffee cup, hence his name. He spilled all the coffee after the workout, thereby christening the AO with his namesake. Coffeeteria at Libbie Market was great as always, and highlights from the Mumblechatter produced several other resolutions for YHC…..check your streaming subscriptions and cancel some. 2.0’s seem to be able to find any movie online for free, so as long as it’s not illegal, maybe that’s a viable alternative. YHC will also be partaking in dry January along with trying to lose some weight and Faceplant has some good tips on meal ideas for 2,000 calorie a day diets. Also, we have the MABA challenge for January that OBT put out there…..100 burpees a day for 31 days. YHC did this a few years ago in Denver and…..it sucked, as you might imagine. However, your body will thank you when swimsuit season comes around.

Prayers for Salt Lick and his mortgage closing challenges.

Thanks for letting me lead today fellas. It was a blast.

    Never stop chasing the wabbit!

  • I’m sorry….did you say I’m on the Q sheet today?

10 HIM posted for a Fudd Q today. It’s a good thing YHC decided to show up (slightly late).

Pigskin started the PAX of in COP with various warm up exercises. YHC appeared at 5:35 and took over. After a few rounds of different exercises and stretches we moseyed to the front entrance while YHC brainstormed on what to do next…….

Various rounds of exercises with laps around the circle in between: lawnmower pulls, flutters holding bell overhead, pulse squats, bench presses, reverse curls with presses, various stretches, and maybe some other stuff. I think we did 3 rounds…..

Mosey to the bus loop for overhead pulls, sit and press, Freddie Mercuries, and maybe a few other things….run another lap

Mosey to the picnic tables for 5 x step ups with each leg followed by 5 reps of clean and press with each arm. Then 6 reps of each and run half a lap around the circle. Then 7 reps of each, then 8 reps of each.

Mosey back to the flag for swings and various Mary exercises until time was called.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC was surprised to hear that his name was on the Q sheet for today when he showed up slightly tardy. YHC cannot remember signing up to Q but forgetfulness comes with age, or so I’ve heard. Regardless, the PAX got a decent workout despite the lack of planning. Coffee afterwards is always a treat…..many thanks to Offshore, Byproduct, and Whitesnake for providing all of the necessary accoutrements.

Prayers for all in need of healing.

Thanks for letting me lead today fellas.

    Never stop chasing the wabbitt!

  • A decade of F3 for Fudd

16 gladiators of the gloom joined together to celebrate YHC’s 10 year anniversary and the brotherhood that has led so many of us to better versions of ourselves. Hitch arrived at 5:29:45 and we were off for……

    COP

SSH x 100 (10 for every year obviously)

    DQ x 10

    Imperial Walkers x 15

Dead Man Hang with a little bit of yoga

    Rosalita’s x 20

    The Thang

Mosey to the field for the Beast

Exercises were Merkins, Flutter Kicks, Squats, Rosalita’s, Burpees, and LBC’s

Mosey the north a bit for the Tunnel of Love

Mosey East for some Mary and stretching

Back to the SF for Numberama, Namerama, Seymour took us out.

    NMS

TClaps and many thanks to the men that posted this morning to help YHC celebrate a decade of F3 and to raise money for Renewing RVA. Thinking back to that first workout, it seems so long ago……much more than 10 years…..but that’s just YHC showing his age and nostalgia. The valleys we’ve all had to cross in those 10 years have been numerous and deep, but as Proverbs 17 tells us, “A friend loves at all times and a brother is made for times of adversity.” YHC is eternally grateful for this F3 brotherhood and the support and prayers that you’ve provided through all of the valley’s I’ve walked through. Human nature guides us to seek comfort and security, but it’s only through adversity that we find out who we truly are. Adversity is the tool God uses to refine our character, strengthen our resolve and discipline, and show us what we are capable of. YHC is doing his best to embrace adversity, and I do that only through the grace of God and the love and support of my family, friends, and F3 brothers. Thank you for helping to shape the man I am today…..still a bit rough around the edges, but confident in the love that God has for us all and secure in the knowledge that no matter how rough the road ahead, my F3 brothers will be right there beside me.

Prayers for Upchuck (who graciously offered to match YHC’s donation to Renewing RVA), Fireman Ed, Roger Roger’s wife, and my sister Mary.

  • You never, ever leave your wingman!

11 “middle aged” studs showed up to pump some iron (possibly coated in rubberized plastic) in the pre-dawn gloom around Godwin HS.

COP – SSH’s, DMH, arm circles, merkins, and some other stuff

Mosey with bells to the loop for various exercises, with breaks to run around the loop. Exercises included:

KB Swings, Halos, Cleans, Pullovers, Pulse Squats, Overhead Press, Clean & Press, Sit & Press, and some other stuff

Mosey back to the flag for some Mary.

Numberama, Namerama, Attila took us out. Coffeteria followed courtesy of Offshore.

Moleskin: YHC thought music would be a nice distraction for the PAX today since a lot of the time was spent grinding through multiple KB exercises. The Wingman bluetooth speaker was dutifully plugged in last night and was ready to go this AM, or so YHC thought. Unfortunately, it started to switch songs from the hard rock playlist of AudioSlave, Staind, AC/DC, and Pearl Jam to Taylor Swift??!! (While there are a few Swiftie songs in my library, those are only played by other members of YHC’s family) YHC was quite puzzled as to how this was taking place and remains somewhat convinced that an unknown antagonist was intentionally switching the songs….perhaps a teenager in an adjacent house was able to remotely hijack the speaker?? Regardless, despite the repeated warnings from Iceman and Viper in Top Gun, this Maverick is ready to ditch his Wingman in favor of more dependable brands (ex Bose).

TClaps to all the PAX for giving maximum effort today and to Offshore for the coffeteria (w/creamer and sweetner!).

Appreciate everyone’s continued prayers for my sister Mary. Things are not getting better….at least yet. She now has a suspected tumor in her lung and multiple others in bones around her body, including her ribs, spine, and skull. The healing power of God is needed more than ever.

  • Sunday morning ride

3 dudes with road or gravel bikes opted for a speedy start to their Sunday to burn some calories. Launch from Hardywood in West Creek. Everything was stellar…..the ride, conversation, scenery, and post workout endorphin high. YHC is especially appreciative for the bike these days as running has become verboten due to continued injuries. It’s really one of my favorite ways to get in a workout. If anyone else is interested getting into road or gravel biking, go see Mark Friedrich (F3 Profit) at Pedal Power (Broad & Staples Mill). He has new and pre-owned bikes and will give you a good F3 deal!

Thanks to Byproduct and Profit for joining me today!

  • 2pack abs all around

7 wannabe Hasselhoff’s gathered in the gloom in an effort to improve our physical appearances for the beach. YHC pulled in to find Broadway, Pool Boy, State Farm, & Big Rig doing pull ups prior to the beatdown. TClaps to the extra effort boys!

Mosey to the football field for COP: SSH’s, DQ’s, Dead Man Hang, Merkins, Planks, several Mary exercises, more planks, side leg raises. Mosey to the end zone for 20’s. Run down the field stopping at the 25, 50, and 75 yard lines to do merkins and WW2’s……5 and 15, 10 and 10, 15 and 5. Plank in the endzone for the six. R&R coming back with burpees and crunchy frogs. 20 ct from Big Rig and mosey to the playground. 10 pull ups and run a lap. 10 leg raises & 5 pullups then bear crawl a lap around the playground. Plank for a while and do some yoga and mary. 5 more pullups and then mosey back to the flag for round robin Mary…..each PAX picks an exercise.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

The PAX performed admirably today, embracing the many minutes in plank and mary work in an effort to increase our core strength and beach body appearance. YHC will be sure to take a pic of my 2 pack when it appears and send it out!

    Announcements:

    • Homegrown Half this Saturday at Robious Landing Park. See Slack for details.
    • pool workout this Sunday, 6-8am at Anirav down near Rockett’s Landing. Contact Pool Boy with questions.

Thanks for the opportunity and privelege to lead gentlemen. Keep your chins up, shoulders back, and never stop chasing the wabbit!

  • A Slaughter at Heartbreak Ridge

A lucky 13 posted for another round of Ultimate with Fudd. The field was wet but spirits were high as we moseyed to the field, set up the cones, warmed up, and then attempted to separate into teams. This turned out a bit different as YHC had intended…….initially, 2 “captains” were selected (Bodos & NTB) and asked to pick players. The intent was to have two teams of similar ability. However, Captain Bodos revolted at this, saying, “I’m not doing that!! I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings!” Fair enough and noted for next time. So instead, the PAX that happened to be standing in closest proximity to the two captains coalesced around their leaders and separated for the match. It just so happened that all of the skinny, fast, young players happened to be standing around Bodos and most of the older, fat, slower players (YHC included) were standing near NTB. No surprise with what happened next…….

Exercises: If a team scored a goal they did 15 SSH’s…..the team scored against had to do 5 burpees. Bodos’s team roared to a quick lead, scoring 4 goals in maybe 10 minutes. Hops (F3 C’ville), High School Musical (F3 Cary), Bodos, and Pinto were the standout players. Hops in particular was as fast as greased lightning and his team took to the strategy quickly of just throwing it as far downfield as possible and expecting him to streak down and catch it, which he did 9 times out of 10. Bodos amazed everyone with catch after catch that defied belief, often diving or leaping headlong with a disregard for his body that would have no doubt injured many of the other players present. After his team scored the 5th or 6th goal, Hops seemed to slow down, no doubt out of pity for the other team, as we started to see less of his streaks downfield.

NTB’s team did score several goals despite the MANY burpees they had been completing between kickoffs. There were several noteable plays, including a burst of speed from Gumbo to catch a long pass that reminded everyone of Bodos or Hops. The rest of the team did their best, and we were all smoked by the end, despite the lack of goals scored. Final score was around 10-2. YHC perceived that there were some hurt feelings as players moseyed back to the VSF, but at least everyone could agree that a good workout was had by all.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

Don’t forget to sign up for the Ultimate tournament at NoToll on Aug. 6th.

    Never stop chasing the Wabbit!
