  • Almost darkest

It has been a minute since YHC has Q’d at Hoedown and somehow the bright lights are now always on in the lot formerly known as the darkest AO. 11 strong gathered to kick off the sort of last full week of summer.

COP – wander mosey to the front lot for 15xSSH, 10xDQ, DMH+, 15xLBC, 10xHRM and off we went to West Drive Circle and partnered up for a little Dora

Dora – 100x merkins, 150x superman 4 count, 200x squats. Audible to 100x superman when the Q realized he wanted functioning rotator cuffs later in the day. Wrapping up, we took the long way around to the church lot and hit 3x burpees for every SUV spotted. Subaru’s don’t count and crossovers were a game time decision.

Triple Check – Merkin sliding a coupon underneath, WWII and run the parking lot loop. After regrouping we went to the covered walkway behind the school to belly up to the bar.

Bar – 10x jerkins, 25x PLT, 25x dips then back to the flag for 10x merkins before numberama, namerama and YHC took us out.

Announcements – 7a Mon 9/1 convergence at Dogpile. Prayers for Salt Lick’s daughter and Spine’s coworker.

Moleskine – Great to be back out with y’all after a summer hiatus of travel and being present for time with teenage kids. Until next time, GP

  • Three dudes and the frozen food truck

Light crowd at Hoedown this morning where three dudes gathered to kick off the week.

After a fantastic COP, a burpee 5 min drill, several Dora’s, a together triple check and 150 too many Supermans we wrapped up with some announcements and YHC took us out.

Sorry to those who missed the fun. There was a Bodosmobile sighting in the church lot but no Bodos today. The frozen food truck was all up in our business during warm up, must have been a new driver. The rest of the morning’s details are classified.

  • Breaking bread & grilled chicken

It was a privilege to grill & serve a late summertime meal to the folks at Breaking Bread – headcount of 11 and there was a spirit of thankfulness amongst the crew. A few stories were shared between the guys and I’m looking forward to signing up for another round. Thanks to Oyster for his continued organization of the endeavor for the RVA region!

    Until next time – GP

  • Five dark thirty

12 studs gathered at a cool Hoedown morning to kick off another week. Here’s how it went:

Short mosey to the top of Lindsey for a COP – 15xSSH, DMH, 10xCP, 15xLBC, 10xMerkins. Quick start into Lindsey – partner up to head to the bottom, alternating side shuffles & 10x MH’s. New partners for the climb back out; timer runs to the top & back while partner bear crawl, lunge, burpee broad jump and crab walks.

Head to the upper parking lot for a triple check of WWII, box cutters and 10x box jumps on the little wall. Intermission planks with a classic Swirly invitational to hold it. Triple check #2 commenced on the super dark upper field of HRM, squats and a timer run to 5x pull ups.

The school lights finally came on. Handshake was relieved to be through the longest 30 minutes ever.

We stopped for 2×12 jerkins at the handrail on the way back down and knocked out a curb crawl up to 5 and back down at the drop off loop. 5 min of Mary wrapped up our time with APDs, FKs, H2Hs, HD’s, WW1s and a plank. YHC botched a dad joke and we moved to Numberama, Namerama, Announcements (prayers for Handshake’s 2nd cousin 9yr old; bone scan situation)

YHC took us out. I’m super thankful to be able to gather with such a fine group to stay active and grow. Enjoy the day gents & until next time, GP.

  • A little rusty

A dozen gathered at Hoedown to kick off the second week of 2024. After a long Q hiatus, YHC was excited to get back to work – here’s how it went:

Extended mosey to pick up stragglers and head to the office parking lot for COP w/heavy mumble chatter, 20xSSH, DMH, 10xHC, 10xCP, 10xLBC, 10x interrupted merkins, and off to round one, a 5 min drill. Partners alternated ascending burpees and wall sits, starting at 5 burpees and increasing until the 5 min clock ran out.

After a quick jaunt across Forest, we partnered up again for three laps around the church lot: polar bear, lunge and crab walk, each for a lap with the partner running a loop to act as a timer before trading spots.

Back to TES for a quick triple check in the front teacher’s lot: WWII, HRM and 20 calf raises on the stairway. This triple check went fast and Handshake anticipated YHC was out of tricks, but we were able to make up some time with 3x 10 jerkins on the bar near the ramp. Big biceps all around.

With five minutes remaining it was back to the flag for some Mary – 40xFK, 20xHD, 20xWWI, 20xH2H, 10x diamond merkins. Numberama, namerama, announcements (Feb CSAP ~ Faceplant, some Q’s open) and YHC took us out. It was a pleasure to kick off the first full week of 2024 with such a fine crew. Until next time, GP

  • Most interesting

Six stallions and a latecomer tackled Dogpile with unmatched enthusiasm, heart and style.
The humidity was no match for the fervor and commitment of the group.

COP: Mosey to the circle, complete a Murph, 50 burpees OYO.

Just kidding. Actually, I’m not totally sure what happened. We definitely enjoyed some hearty fellowship, a significant distance of lunges, vintage frisbee game, touch a tree, time at the rusty cage, birthday jacks and a totally botched love hill excursion. The larger group saved an unsuspecting amphitheater yoga chick from 10 minutes of Wilson. Hitchhiker ran a long, long way.

Numberama, Namerama, Announcements (summer tour, Bateau pickle ball) and YHC took us out. Definitely my most unique Q experience and it wouldn’t have been possible without y’all! Until next time, GP

  • Grove & sunshine

Great morning for a run. 20 strong out at RAMM:

4 mile – GROVE east to left on Tilden to left on Kensington to Patterson west. Left on Harlan Circle to right on GROVE & back to the flag

5 mile – GROVE east to left on Boulevard. Left on Patterson. Left on Harlan Circle to left on GROVE & back to the flag.

6 mile loop – GROVE east to left on Boulevard. Left on Patterson to right on Antrim. Cross Monument and left on Fitzhugh. Left on Chantilly to Right on Patterson. Left on Harlan Circle to left on GROVE and back to the flag.

Numberama, Namerama, Announcements (Convergence Mon 7a @ Tredegar, Breaking bread openings, Summer tour kickoff) and YHC took us out. Hope everyone enjoys the Memorial Day weekend; until next time, GP

  • Jams & not elevens

It was a perfect morning for nine to gather at daybreak for Heartbreak & YHC was honored to Q after a long hiatus. Honeydo showed up in his colorful jams, matching sneakers and off we went to the ES parking lot.

COP: 15xSSH, 11xDQ, 10xHC, 10xIW, 10xHRM, 15xLBC, air spell Heartbreak Ridge (lowercase for Slippin Jimmy). Ready to rumble, we meandered to the little playground for a triple check: Big Boy Sit-ups, shoulder taps & the timer runs a loop. After mr. jams man pined for a release from the shoulder tap movement, the crew was treated to 10x Scorpion Kicks OYO. Dealer’s choice for regular style to release one’s lower back or to invert and avoid the infamous pressure.

Mosey back to the rear asphalt field and partner up for a Dora: 100 x HRM, 150 x LBC, 150 x squat with alternating bear crawl / lunge route as a timer. Native American mosey to the GP railings for a signature 2x over/under crawl bear / rail crawl combo.

With 7 minutes remaining we started a set of 11’s, convoluted & without any counts that added to 11… scorpion kicks at the bottom of heartbreak ridge, bernie to top & do odd number sets (1,3,5,7,9,11) x 3 of heels to heaven. YHC abandoned this chaos at round 4 to hit a single set of 12x jerkins and mosey back to the flag. Numberama, Namerama, Announcements (Convergence Memorial Day at Tredegar 7a) and YHC took us out. Thanks for the colorful and wonky morning! Until next time, GP

Native American back to the drop off loop for PLT’s 2×25 followed by 6 min running timer of ascending burpees. Partner 1 starts with 5 while second man is doing box cutters. Switch for 6, 7, 8…. for 6 min. Mosey over to the wall for the main event.

    8 min kickboxing Tabata with 40s on, 20s people’s chair rest. Jab-Cross R/L, Jab-Cross-Uppercut x 2 R/L, Jab-Cross-Kneex2 R/L, Jab-Cross-Uppercutx2-Hookx2 R/L. No elementary school staff were harmed, though likely were amused…

Wrap up with 2×10 jerkins, 2×20 dips, 2 sets of Australian Mongolian Pigskin one leg squats x 10 with 10 Derkins and an undetermined amount of SSH’s to finish the morning. Numberama, Namerama, Announcements (Whitesnake bluegrass festival on 4/22 – see Slack for details, all the best to Motorboat who is moving to Seattle next week) and YHC took us out.

It was a privilege to lead this morning & thanks for humoring my unconventional Q! Until next time, GP

  • Something new

9 fine gentlemen gathered to start the first Monday of the year off right at Hoedown. Here’s how things went:

Partner up for a Dora: 100 HRM, 200 Superman (crowd favorite), 300 LBC

Keep same partners for Something New – 30-60-90-90-60-30. Two exercises (plank / jump squat). Partners alternate every 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 90 seconds, repeat 90s and back down. FIA to the back church lot for…

11’s with Gomer’s favorite Crab Cakes and Lt. Dans. After a quick mosey back towards the flag we wrapped up the morning with another something new 30-30-60-60 including burpees and people’s chair. Significant fun was had by all.

Numberama, Namerama, Announcements (Triangle in January, Pre Grid Iron breakfast coming soon, prayers for Swipe Right’s family – funeral on Wednesday), and YHC took us out.

Moleskine: Thanks for the privilege to lead this morning & humbled to realize we couldn’t even watch the world record 9+ hr plank hold at 2x on youtube… until next time, GP.
