  • And then there was silence….

16 men gathered for the official Handshake 40th Birthday Q and this is what happened:

Mosey out the back gate of Dogpile to the lake in front of Maymont for a COP. First location was too muddy and goose poop ridden so we traversed up the hill. Exercises completed to include among others Inverted Scorpion Kicks and (2) sets of 20 HRM’s

Mosey to the intersection and notify the Pax to remember this location and then form up for an Indigenous Peoples run over to Burpee Lake (no Burpees).

Party is such sweet sorrow: partner up and each partner runs in the opposite direction and at each Lightpole partners complete (5) HRM’s and (1) WWII’s and meet up at the opposite corner.

At the opposite corner partners reunite and we make our way back around the lake hop scotching with P1 doing 10 Squats while P2 runs to the next Lightpole and starts the squats and when P1 catches back up P2 goes to the next Pole and continue to the end.

Mosey from the original starting corner back up to the top of corner of Trafford and Westover and get in groups of 3’s for a Triple Check. P1 runs an unreasonable distance while P2 does Flutters and P3 does LBC’s. Everybody does all 3 and then round 2 was Running, Alabama Prom Dates, and Inverted Scorpion Kicks. Round 3 was Running, WWII’s and something else, YHC does not remember.

Mosey back down Westover to the intersection YHC had pointed out earlier. Al Gore the 6 and YHC asked the Pax to pick a number between 1 – 10, 7 was picked and 7 Burpees were completed.

Mosey up to Spottswood and complete 20 HRM’s.

Mosey back to the Flag for 20 more HRM’s and 1 minute of stretching.

Announcements – Grow Ruck is coming the first weekend of May. Rosie says anyone who completed today’s bootcamp can handle the Grow Ruck. Flight Nurse out of Wilmington is taking over the Grow Ruck and he is aware of what happened last time and he is determined to make it a success. Sign up.

    Prayer Requests – none

NMS – thank you for everyone for the birthday wishes and for those who were able to make it to, it is truly appreciated.

  • Entering the decade of silence.

  • TRL with Handshake

6 men gathered for this weeks 45MOM, but instead of 45 Minutes of Gerry, they got 45 Minutes of Hate. This is what went down:

Mosey from the parking Lot to the corner of Cary and Commonwealth for a COP

Mosey down Cary to Windsor Way. In the Gazebo we did 40 dips then 20 Derkins.

Mosey back up to the Gazebo at Windsor and Cary. 20 Dips, 10 Derkins.

Announcements: Handshake Q at Dogpile on Saturday.

Prayer Requests: Bone Thugs parents both have Covid. His father is in poor health and has been to the ER twice.

NMS – not alot of Mumble Chatter today, given we were on the move the whole time. Glad to have been able to take the Q, especially since Bodos is in Texas and wasn’t able to turn on his Hype Machine. Backblast title comes from the fact Senor Frog requested an offsite mosey when we talked yesterday. YHC had already be considering it, but just like Carson Daly, YHC obliged the request.

  • Road trip to the land where people clap

4 men gathered for this weeks Tomato Run/Tomato Ruck

YHC and Mr. Holland went for a run. Good conversations about the art of various shapes and sizes, as well as never passing on rare opportunities when they present themselves.

Corned Beef and Yardsale our voluminous and voluptuous brothers went for a Ruck.

Announcements – Corned Beef said a 2nd F is coming up soon at PBR in Mechanicsville, but no date was given.

Prayer Requests – Bulkhead/Bulkheads mother. Prayers for the family with his mothers recent cancer diagnosis.

NMS – I always enjoy my trip to the north. I do find it a little weird that they clap instead of say hate for those in their 30’s.

  • Waking with bated breath

6 men arose from a warm fartsack to see what this weeks rendition of Heartbreak Ridge would have, and this is what happened:

Longer than normal mosey, much to Attilla’s chagrin, to the Quioccasin Middle Bus Loop

COP under the covered Loop with various exercises

Indefinite Triple Check with a Run to the Shed by the Fuel Site, HRM’s, and SSH’s for the first 2 rounds, third round was a Run, with Squats, and LBC.’s

Miscellaneous Wall Work to stay under the covered loop

Announcements – 2nd Lunch at Firehouse Subs at Innsbrook at Noon today

NMS – We had a solid 6 of grizzled veterans who weren’t afraid to post on a cool, windy, wet day. Although we were all prepared to get wet, it didn’t mean any one of us actually wanted to get wet. Good thing for covered Bus Loops.

  • Herding Cats

16 men gathered to see what Handshake had to offer and enjoy 53 degree weather and this is what happened:

Traveling COP – Mosey from the Parking Lot across Boulevard and stop at various places. Each stop we did (2) exercises and moved on. We went down Shirley and took a left and made our away around the Lake into front of the Maymont Nature Center and end at the Maymont Nature Center Parking Lot.

NMS – It was a great crew today. Good to see Nancy Lopez, Wilson, Fergie, and Bone Thugs at Dogpile. Also good to see Heist, Swoop, and Yeehaw who were doing a training Ruck.

Announcements – Heading Place 10k Challenge starts February 10th, something else is going on with the Healing Place on March 16th, Grow Ruck Feb 10th? Grow Ruck Coaches training starts. Grow Ruck practice tomorrow (Sunday) at Stony Point/Larus Park at 7:00, meet at Trader Joes. February 10th Frozen Triangle at 0600. Breaking Bread – see Oyster/Slack. Oyster is challenging people to pick one of the days in the Birthday Month. Cheers to Chumbucket for doing Saturday/Sunday this month for Breaking Bread.

Prayer Requests – Flatline/Flatline’s family with his son starting to drive

  • WTH adjacent

9 men joined for a Handshake makeup Q from 2 weeks ago and this is our offsite adventure

Start with a mosey to the wind-free courtyard at Quiocassin Middle

Mosey over to Shane Road and take advantage of the lights at the Henrico Recycling Center and do a Triple Check. P1 HRM’s, P2 Squats, P3 runs down to the corner of Woodcrest and back. 3 Rounds

Starting at the Recycling Center we moseyed back down to Woodcrest to start a Lindsay with 30 Squats and 10 Carolina Dry Docks. Continue at Holbrook/Elon, then Vassar Road, then Woodcrest Road.

We’ve got enough time so lets do the run in reverse

Turn back in reverse and at Elon/Holbrook and do 50 2-Count Flutter Kicks.

This is where things went downhill, YHC didn’t remember to turn left on Holbrook and continued to Fisk and to Inez and then to Quioccasin and back to QMS. This mistake extended to the run from .46 miles to .91 miles. Pinto clocked us at 2.3 total miles.

We arrived at the Flag with 2 minutes to spare so a Burpee Ring of Fire was completed.

Announcements – Frozen Triangle is coming up and so is Grow Ruck

    Prayer Requests – none

NMS – slightly warmer weather than we’ve seen in the last week made for good running. It was nice to make a off campus trip, not something that is done frequently at Heartbreak Ridge. Thanks to the Pax for their patience during a slight misadventure.

  • FW SZN of GVN – Handshake Edition – Managing Chaos

15 men gathered for this weeks First Watch Episode and this is what transpired:

Mosey and the parking lot 1 lap and circle up for a COP

Mosey to where Overlook splits from S. Ridge Road and partner up. P1 Runs to the Cul-de-sac and does 10 Burpees, P2 does WWII’s until P1 returns. (1/3rd of mile for out and back)

Mosey to the bottom of the S Ridge and partner up. P1 does Squats and P2 runs to Old Bridge Road and back. P1 switches to Flutter Kicks halfway through. (.45 miles for out and back)

Get 2 Partners for a Triple Check. P1 runs to a loosely defined spot up the hill and back. P2 does moving SSH’s, P3 does Lunge Walk or Squat Walk. (directions could have been better, but it was a work in progress)

Switch to Indigenous Peoples Run to the tip of the Triangle Park at the top of S Ridge. (Lockjaw couldn’t hear the directions to “hold up” and and started the mosey prematurely)

Burpee-jerk. YHC asked Ronnie for a exercise and he said Merkins. YHC quickly described The Handshake Burpee Jerk and it was completed while every was supposed to be doing Merkins if they weren’t doing Burpess. (the exercises were reluctantly completed).

Announcements – Faceplants Dogpile VQ this Saturday. SOJ Twinkle Light this Sunday night at some location.

    Prayer Request – none

NMS – It was a great day to Q. It was YHC’s first time Qing for Season of Giving. It was fun to plan something that overlapped between YHC’s favorite things and the FW AO personality. We tried some newer variations YHC has been working on, its not hard to feel like a comedian working out a new act before the official tour starts. Thank you all for the opportunity and the motivation.

  • Over the river and through the woods

6 locals, a semi-local, and 2 NOJ’ers gathered for this weeks events at The Alamo

Moleskin – YHC was definitely surprised to see snow this morning, let alone big fat flakes and accumulation on the road and he was leaving his home. Luckily YHC had the Q so it made it harder to farstsack. It turned out to be a pretty solid morning and a great crew to be with. Thanks again to Warby for letting us take the Q!
