Ten Strong for the Reverse Caroline Challenge

Ten enthusiastic runners showed up this morning for a nostalgic route—the reverse Caroline with a few creative tweaks. But this wasn’t just any ordinary run.

    The Mission

Today’s special challenge: count every port-a-jon along the route. The PAX member with the highest count would earn bragging rights and a special prize at the end.

    The Results

After the run, we gathered to reveal our counts. The competition was tight:

    • Splinter and Chippendale each spotted 9 port-a-jons
    • Sippy Cup took the victory with a total of 10

    The Prize

YHC is currently developing a port-a-jon tracking iOS app (because why not?). As our winner, Sippy Cup will receive a lifetime subscription complete with an exclusive promo code when the app launches.

Congrats to Sippy Cup on the sharp eyes, and respect to all ten who posted this morning! 🏃‍♂️

  • Morning Beatdown: Four Strong at WDog

Four dedicated regulars showed up this morning ready to work. Here’s how the workout unfolded:

    The Warm-Up

We started with a mosey around the bird park, passing the pump house before heading to the bottom of the triangle. Once there, we knocked out our warm-up routine:

    • Deadman hang
    • SSH x 25
    • DQ x 10
    • LBCs x 20
    • Imperial Walkers x 10
    • Merkins x 10
    • WWII x 10

    Exercise #1: The Hill Challenge

Three rounds of progressive work—10 reps, then 20, then 30 each round:

    • Run backward up the hill
    • 10 merkins at the top
    • Run to the stop sign at the corner
    • 10 squats
    • Run down the hill
    • 10 WWII sit-ups

Exercise #2: The Caroline Tower 11s

We moseyed over to the Caroline Tower for a classic 11s session:

    • Run up the stairs: 10 merkins
    • Run down the stairs: 1 WWII
    • Continue the ladder all the way down to 1 merkins and 10 WWII

    The Finish

We moseyed back to the flag for some solid abs work, followed by a short and sweet meditation to close things out.

    Black Space took us home.

Respect to the four who posted today. 💪

  • 14 Strong for a Morning Beatdown

14 Strong for a Morning Beatdown

Fourteen men showed up this morning ready to work, including Titan, a visitor from Charlotte, NC, and an FNG. Here’s how the beatdown went down:

    The Warm-Up

We kicked things off with a mosey down to the parking lot at Movement Church, stopping for two burpees at each street we crossed. Once we arrived, it was time to get loose:

    • Deadman hang
    • SSH x 25
    • DQ x 10
    • LBCs x 20
    • Imperial Walkers x 10
    • Merkins x 10
    • WWII x 10

    The Main Event

Exercise #1: We tackled a classic 11s routine—push-ups on one end, sit-ups on the other, with runs between each set on the fresh asphalt.

From there, we moseyed up to the parking lot at Seventh Street Christian Church, hitting two burpees at each street along the way.

Exercise #2: Time to bring the pain. Bearcrawl to the first light post and knock out 10 merkins, then run to the second light post for 20 merkins. Bearcrawl to the other end, turn around to the second light post for 30 merkins, then run back to the first light post to finish with 40 merkins.

    The Cool Down

We moseyed back to the Mary Munford Elementary School for some abs work and a short, sweet meditation to close things out.

    Announcements

Welcome to the F3RVA, Darkwing! We’re glad to have you.

Reminder: There’s a workout called SCC (St. Christopher Country Club) every Monday at St. Christopher’s track. Come get after it.

    OBT took us out.

P.S. It was truly a privilege to lead this morning’s beatdown. Thanks to all of you for showing up and graciously enduring what can only be described as my “creative interpretation” of a workout. Your willingness to suffer through my questionable workout does not go unnoticed—or unappreciated. You guys are AWESOME!

  • Morning Miles at St. Christopher’s Track

We had a solid turnout this morning with twelve men hitting the pavement for the spider run. Runners tackled different distances:

The 4-mile crew completed 3 laps around the track, while those pushing for 5 miles logged 7 laps. Our distance seekers went the full 6 miles with 11 laps under their belts.

    Important Reminder

Time is running out! We have just two days left to support our brothers in Kenya. We’re still accepting donations of shoes, socks, or cash. If you’ve been meaning to contribute, now’s the time to make it happen.

  • Morning Beatdown at Hoedown

Ten determined men showed up in the early morning light at Hoedown for what promised to be a challenging workout. Though my memory is a bit hazy on exactly why I volunteered to Q this session, I’m glad I did!

    The Workout

    Warm-Up

We moseyed down to the bottom of Lindsay to kick things off with our Circle of Pain (COP):

    • Deadman hang
    • SSH x 25
    • DQ x 10
    • LBCs x 20
    • Scorpions x 10
    • Merkins x 10

    Main Event

    Exercise #1: Partner Hill Work

We paired up for some partner work. Partner 1 ran to the top of the hill and back while Partner 2 cycled through bearcrawls, broad jumps, and lunges, finishing with the “booyah” push-up before switching roles.

    Exercise #2: Parking Lot 11s

We moseyed over to the Tuckahoe parking lot for a classic 11s routine—push-ups on one end, sit-ups on the other, running between each set.

    Exercise #3: Hill 11s

Back to the main parking lot for another round of 11s with a twist: backward runs up the hill with push-ups at the top, then regular runs down with sit-ups at the bottom.

    Welcome!

Special shout-out to DTH for bringing a FNG—welcome Gerry to the F3RVA family!

  • Another Solid Beatdown at WDog

Four brave souls showed up and get ready for the beatdown at WDog this morning. YHC kicked things off with his usual route toward the pump house, then moseyed over to the Nickel Bridge toll to get warmed up.

    The Warm-Up (COP)

YHC started with COP to get the blood flowing:

    • Dead hang x10
    • Arm circles x10
    • Diamond Dogs x10
    • Imperial walkers x10
    • Helicopters x10
    • Little Baby Crunches x10
    • American hammers x10

    The Main Event

Round 1: Nickel Bridge Challenge We ran across to the other side of the Nickel bridge, stopping at each light post for:

    • 3 merkins
    • 3 WWII
    • 5 squats

Then we ran back to the toll with 5 imperial walkers at each post.

Round 2: Pump House Circuit Next up was a mosey via the pump house with exercises at every even-numbered light post along the way.

Round 3: Hill Work We finished strong with some Bernie Sanders up the hill, followed by lunges and a run back down and 10 push-ups and 10 sit-ups at the bottom.

After that beatdown, we moseyed back to the flag feeling accomplished and were greeted with Blank Space.

Big thanks to Blank Space for taking us out with the prayer. Another solid morning of getting better together!

  • Stumbling in the gloom

    Stumbling in the gloom

14 HIMs showed up to follow YHC into the gloom for my VQ.  We moseyed the “wrong way” over to the picnic shelter for a warmarama, where the Pax gently reminded YHC to not abruptly end workout cadences and actually shout the cadences.  Most were done in sets of 18, to celebrate the 18 years I lived in Ohio before leaving home.  We followed with 9 Burpees, to celebrate the 9 National Championships of The Ohio State University’s football team, and then moseyed down to the Pump House.

Along the way, it was decided that as an homage to YHC’s first post, Applesauce (like Kriss Kross) was going to make you Jump, Jump, with Leeroy Jenkins calls triggering two Burpees.  At the Pump House we did a Cycling-themed Pipeline Triple Check, with Freddy Mercuries and HR Merkins (to help with YHC’s cyclist arms).  Next we went up the hill, aborting an ill-conceived mosey down the bike trails after Senor Frog almost died, and meeting at the cages for another triple check, with Pullups/Jerkins and Copperhead Squats.

Next we moseyed over to the Carillon to partner up for a Dora in honor of YHC’s 9th Anniversary, which was also at the Carillon, with 90 LBCs, 180 Dips, and 270 SSHs.  With a few Leeroy Jenkin’s calls along the way, there was much jumping and pain on the way back to the flags.  Once there we wrapped up with a circle of fire featuring many Merkins, closed with some Fudd’s and Wilson’s Wives, and then finished about 30 seconds early, to much grumbling and disappointment, about right for a VQ.

  • Early Morning Pickleball: Double Trouble for Oyster!

Early Morning Pickleball: Double Trouble for Oyster!

It was an early start for a group of five pickleball enthusiasts today, who showed up bright and early, paddles in hand, ready to hit the courts. And while everyone had some great rallies, it seems Oyster had a particularly challenging morning!

The dynamic duo of Hitchhiker and Upchuck were clearly on fire, as they managed to defeat Oyster not once, but twice in quick succession. Ouch! While we don’t have all the details of the matches, it sounds like Hitchhiker and Upchuck were a formidable force, leaving Oyster and Faceplant to perhaps strategize for their revenge in the next session.

It just goes to show, you never know what the morning pickleball games will bring! Sometimes you’re the hammer, and sometimes… well, sometimes you’re Oyster.

  • 🏓 GAME ON! Pickleball Season Officially LAUNCHED + Aussie Pro Joins the Squad!

The paddles were ready and the energy was electric as four dedicated picklers rallied together with YHC to officially launch pickleball season this morning!

COP: We kicked things off with a energizing mosey to the court, followed by a lap around our battleground, then powered through deadman hangs x 10, helicopters x 10, and SSH x 25 to get the blood pumping.

The excitement reached new heights as YHC had the honor of welcoming our newest FNG, Tonic—an Australian professional tennis player who’s bringing some serious court credentials to F3RVA!

Faceplant brought us home with a strong finish.

The season is officially underway, and with talent like this joining our ranks, it’s going to be an incredible season on the courts!
