  • Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

A solid Pax of 9 arrived for a muggy morning at Heartbreak Ridge. Here’s what went down, more or less.

Mosey to the side of the school for COP – SSH, imperial walkers, Don Quixotes, arm circles, merkins and LBCs.

Head to the elementary school for a DORA (even though we had the perfect triple check numbers). After some confusion, we did our 100 burpees, 200 reverse crunches and 300 squats.

Mosey back to middle school for a round of AMRAP pull ups, with the rest of the Pax doing sets of dips.

Next we did 3 rounds of Jerkins at the Jerkin gym.

Finally, a triple check at the ridge – merkins, flutters and Bernie to the top.

Back to the flag for a quick 5 merkins.

Numberama, nameorama and Handshake took us out.

Pinto won the award for dressing like the Q. His red shirt was not quite as form fitting as mine, but it was a great effort. Child size medium seems to work best.

  • Coupon day at Heartbreak

12 hardy gentlemen emerged from the gloom at Heartbreak. Here’s what happened:

COP – SSH, Don Quixote, Russian Soldiers, Arm Circles, Merkins and LBCs.

Mosey to the bleachers to select a coupon and then head to the football field.

Exercises at the 25, 50, 25 and Endzone lines. Two rounds that included Blockburpees, incline merkins, decline merkins, bench presses, kettlebell swings, and curls/pull ups.

Next, bring your coupon to the bleachers for 3 sets of tricep pullovers, combined with bench kicks.

Deposit your coupon and head to the Ridge for a triple check (finally with the right numbers). Squats, flutter kicks and run to the top.

We then headed to the track for catch me if you can, with two sets of merkins and two sets of burpees.

Next, over to the blacktop for a mini Dora – 50 merkins, 100 squats and 150 LBCs. The haters were wrong – we finished with 5 minutes to spar.

Finally, a quick ring of fire to honor an example of automotive excellence in the form of a high mileage, 20 year-old Miata. Plus American Hammers to run out the clock.

The Q had to exit left after numberama and nameorama to take his daughter to marching band practice. The Pax found a new Q to take them out.

    Excellent work boys.

  • Five for 5:30

A smaller than normal group assembled at the designated time to begin their adventure. Here’s what transpired:

Mosey to the front of the school for COP – SSH, Don Q’s, arm circles, imperial walkers, LBCs and merkins.

Next, mosey around the school and relish the dry fields of Heartbreak. A quick audible from the plan to use the baseball field. Instead, we went to the football field and did the following:

-Polar bear 10 yards, 10 burpees, polar bear another 10 yards, 20 merkins, polar bear another 10 yards, 30 reverse crunches, run to the end zone and 40 2 count flutters. Repeato.

Then we moseyed to the building for wall sits, combined with alternating donkey kicks and balls to the wall.

Next, over to the finally dry (mostly) jerkin gym for 3 sets.

Then a triple check at the ridge – jump squats and reverse crunches, and run to the top.

Then an indigenous run, mixed in with some karaoke and Bernie Sanders. Then AMPRAP pull ups and then a few springs (the Q was making this up as he was going). Finally, return to the flag for a little Mary.

Numberama, Nameorama, and Handshake? took us out. (The Q had to duck out before closing ceremonies to drive his daughter to marching band practice). Thanks to those PAX who finished off the others.

  • A window of dryness

7 eager gents arrived for what was promised to be a monsoon event at Heartbreak. Instead, it was a dry, rather civilized 38 degrees. Here’s what went down:

Mosey to the front of the school for some SSH, Russian Soldiers, Arm circles, Merkins, and hill billies.

Next, head to the parking lot for a BEAST. Burpees, copperhead squats, merkins, monkey humpers, SSH and ___Squats (can’t recall the name – Attila’s request).

Mosey to the back of the elementary school and break up into two teams. First team does catch me if you can with 10 merkins (2 rounds). The other team was sent for AMRAP pull ups and dips. Then the teams switched exercises.

Head to the driest part of Heartbreak, an uphill paved slope, for 5 minutes of Mary so we could catch our breath.

Then, the world’s most unorganized triple check. It was supposed to be wall sits, donkey kicks and running to the fence. What ensued was something else. After a few rounds, I put the triple check out of its misery, and we headed back to the flag for some final SSH to run out the clock.

Announcement: HH at Kindred Spirit on 2/1/21 to celebrate end of dry January.

Numberama, nameorama and Handshake took us out.

I wore my waterproof hiking shoes and brought a rain jacket after the hype on the pre-game texts. All for not. I believe we managed to stay completely dry above the ankles. See you next time.

  • 44 + 44 = Dynamic Duo

A grand total of 2 Heartbreak Ridgers emerged from the gloom to embark on a frosty morning. With two police officers keeping a close watch, here’s what went down:

COP – SSH, arm circles, Russian soldiers, merkins and LBCs.

Mosey to the parking lot for a beast. YHC realized that the parking lot is perfectly set up for a beast. There are 6 rows of parking spaces. We did burpees, mountain climbers, merkins, jump squats, hand-release merkins and monkey humpers.

Next, we went to the pull up bars for 3 sets with some SSH, dips and other stuff mixed in between.

Wander around the track to the concession stand for wall sits and balls to the wall, then go to next door to the bleachers for box jumps and box kicks.

Finally, head to the ridge for a Dora – 100 merkins, 200 LBCs, 300 squats.

Numberama, nameorama (we’re both 44!) and YHC took us out.

    Announcements – TYA’s Thanksgiving lesson at 45MoM.

    See you in the gloom.

  • Celebrating 4* years at F3

A hearty 9 appeared at Heartbreak on a chilly version of 70 and sunny. Here’s what went down:

Mosey to the back of the school for COP under the lights:

SSH, Don Quixote, Russian Soldiers, Arm Circles, Merkins (15?) and LBCs.

Mosey to the track to select your favorite block and then head to the endzone for 4 sets of 4 exercises at the 25, 50, 25 and endzone

    1. Block burpees – (we had an extra set just because) – 20 merkins
    2. Block swings (like a kettle bell swing)
    3. Incline merkins – 16
    4. Derkins – 16

Next, head over to the brick building for some wall seats and balls to the wall. Then mosey to the back of the school for some pole smokers.

Seeing too many cars in the elementary school next door, we stayed on campus for a triple check – vertical crunches (squats), flutter kicks and run to the flag pole.

Next, head over to the pull up bars for AMRAP pull ups with the pax doing 4 merkins between each set (36 merkins).

Finally, take a lap around the track, with a few sprints for good measure, then back to the flag.

Numberama, nameorama and YHC took us out.

Announcements: November merkin challenge is up and running. I think we had around 103 to get you started.

Tomorrow is officially my fourth anniversary (*with several large gaps for injuries). A big thanks to Lockjaw for subtly EH’ing me at our daughters’ soccer games, as well as the rest of the Pax for keeping me coming back. I had not worked out in years and showed up to my first few workouts in cargo shorts and a shirt that I used to cut the grass. (I definitely prefer my child’s medium Wdog shirt). I have made some great friends out in the gloom and look forward to another 4 years!

    Ronnie out.

  • A cool morning at the Ridge

A lucky group of 8 men arrived to find a less humid and rather pleasant morning in the 60s at Heartbreak Ridge. Here’s what went down:

Mosey to the basketball court for COP

SSH, Russian Soldiers, Arm circles, LBCs, merkins, imperial walkers

Next, mosey to the track for 4 corners: 10 burpees 20 merkins 30 jump squats 40 monkey humpers.

Step over to the pull up bar for 3 sets of 8 with pax holding plank after 5 Merkins.  Switched to burpees between the sets, then to dips between the sets.

Why not rinse and repeat the 4 corners – 10 burpees 20 merkins 30 jump squats 40 monkey humpers.

Honeydo was looking longingly at the bleachers, so we stopped and did sets of 10, 20, 30 and 40 box kicks with SSH between the sets

Having stayed dry long enough, we ventured over to the Ridge for Dora – 100 SSH, 200 LBCs, 300 flutter kicks. The bottom of the Ridge was a bit swampy, but refreshing.

We moseyed back to the flag, with a little bear crawl and polar bear for good measure. Finally the Pax knocked out 44 SSH to honor YHC’s birthday (from last week). YHC took us out.

Bone Thugs 10k this Friday at RAMM. DTH has the 3rd F tonight.

It was a pleasure as always. See you in the gloom.

  • Fab 4

A smaller than normal group arrived to the Ridge without a leader. No worries, Handshake quickly seized the hot potato and off we went into the gloom.

    Circle up with the following:

Helicopters, Swirly’s dead man hang, Don Quixote, Imperial Walkers, LBCs, APDs and merkins.

Mosey to the side of the school for a Dora – 100 WWIIs, 200 ?? (can’t remember), 300 SSH.

Next mosey to the tennis courts for bear crawls, crawl bears and some exercises in between. Then, sprint to the end of the court for ??? (man, I am a terrible historian).

Toss the Potato to YHC. Mosey to the other side of the building for some box jumps on the steps. Next, head to the bleachers for dips. 5 dips on the 5 bleachers. Turn around for durkins down the bleachers. No visit to the Ridge would be complete without a few sets at the jerkin gym. Run the track back to the flag for a quick round on Mary.

Numberama, nameorama and Pucker took us out.

Announcements: thoughts for Pucker’s mom who is recovering from surgery this morning. HDHH at Kubota’s.

    See you in the gloom.

  • 5+2 (2.0s) equals 7

A hearty crew of five with two 2.0s welcomed another beautiful day at Heartbreak Ridge. Here’s how it went down:

    SSH

    Imperial walkers

    Arm circles

    Don Quixote

    Merkins

    Holly Dollys

    LBCs

Next, mosey to the track-side pull up bar. Each man does pullups while the pax does incline merkins.

Quick saunter to the track for four corners. First corner 5 burpees, 2nd corner 10 merkins, then 15 jump squats and finally 20 two-count mountain climbers.

    Reapeto – except increase reps to 10, 20, 30 and 40.

Mosey to the other side of the school. First – wall sits and balls to the wall. Then it was time to smoke some poles. The 2.0s needed a bit more instruction on these. Pax holds 6″ while each man takes a turn with 5 pole smokers.

Mosey back to the track for a triple check on the hill. SSH and LBCs while the third guy runs the hill.

Upon request, we did 3 reps of 8 at the jerkin gym. Back to the flag for some quick merkins, flutter kicks and a few SSH to run out the clock.

Numberama, nameorama and the Q took us out.

  • Misty morning at Heartbreak

A hearty group of 9 appeared from the mist to better themselves at Heartbreak. A quick mosey to the elementary school for COP as follows: SSH, imperial walkers, arm circles, LBCs, merkins and Don Quixotes.

Next, mosey to the middle school basketball courts for some shuttle runs with exercises in between. First round – 10 x 5 x 2 x 1 of burpees. Second round – 4 count flutter kicks. Third round – merkins. Finish with running the length of the court 3 times at 50%, 75% and 100% with 20 LBCs after each lap.

Then, mosey to the track for three sets of 20 dips on the bleachers – audible to one set due to bad planning.

Next, on to the pull up bar for AMRAP pull ups with the pax circled up in plank position and various exercises in between.

Journey to more bleachers for another set of 20 dips.

On to the concession stand for wall sits and balls to the walls – 3 sets each. Followed up by a F3 tunnel of love: the pax straddles the handrails while each guy bear crawls up the path.

Mosey to the front of the school for a triple check – running, merkins and flutter kicks.

Finally, back to the flag (Miata) for a ring of fire. Numberama, nameorama and YHC took us out.

It was a pleasure boys. Welcome Squeeker!

(Big data: I can’t find the block to select the location of the workout. It used to be there. Perhaps my settings or firewall or some such nonsense is not set up correctly. )
