  • Smell the Glove

Five of the Faithful posted to a GridIron workout, one of whom (Attila) wore cheap-o rubber gloves infused with putrid funk gathered over many weeks of sweaty workouts. I could smell Attila’s vomit-inducing gloves from at least 20 feet away. YHC offered to start a GoFundMe page so he could spring for $2.50 to buy a fresh pair. In any case, this is what went down, more or less:

Warmup with 50x SSH, hand release merkins, Imperial Walkers, Crab Cakes, Merkins

Mosey to block building for Donkey Kick Ciabattas
Mosey to main gridiron field for Bearcrawl / Crawlbear
Stay on field for Crabwalk / Walkcrab Ciabattas
Mosey down to lower field for FourSquare —
Run perimeter of field, sprinting last leg.
    Repeat springing last 2 legs.
    Repeat sprinting last 3 legs.
    Repeat sprinting all legs.
Mosey around to pillers of pain. People’s chair
Pole Smoker Ciabattas. More People’s chair
Mosey to front of school for Merkin ladder — 10 wide, 9 regular, 8 close, 7 wide … etc. to 0.
Triple check with more People’s chair and box cutters.

COT with YHC taking us out.

During the longish mosey from the school back to the VSF, Attila tried to slip his gross gloves into the back of White Deer’s shirt. White Deer, being rather expert at adolescent practical jokes was guarded, and slipped away. Adderall was a beast, finishing ahead on most exercises. There was not a usual coffeeteria on account of weekend schedules.

  • Circus Maximus and Day 2 of Kettlebells for Some

Yesterday, White Deer and I took a roadtrip up to Manndate, and the Deer led us through a rigorous KB workout. Rinse and repeat this morning in the far West End darkness, except this time it was my turn to lead. Three of the CircusMaximus regulars were joined by three of Tuckahoe’s strongest. This is what went down:

31x SSH with some cadence shifts and a slow-speed section
    25x Imperial Walkers -> Hillbillies
    15x Cherry Pickers
    10x Hand release merkins
    20x LBC
20x Crabcakes (White Deer’s a** never leaving the pavement)

Overhead KB carry from VSF over to center of bus loop. 10 burpees OYO
Overhead KB carry to front of school near the wheelchair ramp.

Extended Half/Modified Dora consisting of the following:
50x merkin rows (with “off” team running length of straight-away and back)
100x KB snatches (with “off” team bear crawling up wheelchair ramp and back)
150x sit & press (with “off” team running length of straight-away and back)
200x lawnmower press (with “off” team feet-first crabwalking up sidewalk to door and back)

Overhead KB carry back to bus loop 10 burpees OYO
    Overhead KB carry to VSF.

COT with Kubota taking us out.

Moleskin: The Deer and I were both feeling yesterday’s Manndate workout, but we settled in after the warm-up and put in the work. It was great having red-pill fixture, Attila, back after his Family Vacation (TM) out west with in-laws. It was also great to connect with the three Tuckahoe men who made it out. They cheerfully endured both the KB workout and WhiteDeer’s flatulence.

  • BLIMPS with 800m Repeats

This is one of those “better late than never” posts. Sorry for the delay.

Three of the GridIron faithful convened at Pouncy Tract Park on a wet morning, following buckets of rain the evening before. Johnsonville (YHC) took lead, and ran through a typical F3 round of in cadence warmups (SSH, Imperial Walkers, Cherry Pickers, Don Quiotes, LBCs). Chum Bucket came in a bit late, and slowly integrated himself into the PAX, making 3.

We then moseyed over to the track, and took a position on a corner of the football field for a round of BLIMPS – 50 seconds on, 10 seconds off AMRAPs consisting of Burpees, (stationary) Lunges, Imperial Walkers, Mountain Climbers, Plank Jacks, (WWII) Situps. Run 2 laps around track at a brisk pace.

Move to another corner. Repeat BLIMPS, but 45 seconds on, 15 seconds off. Run 2 laps around track at a brisk pace with a sprint leg.

Move to another corner. Repeat BLIMPS, repeating 45 seconds on, 15 seconds off. Run 2 laps around track at a brisk pace with a sprint leg.

Move to the final corner of the field. Repeat BLIMPS, but 40 seconds on, 20 seconds off. Run 1 lap around track at a brisk pace with a sprint leg and mosey back to VSF.

COT with Attila taking us out.

Thanks for letting me lead! Jville

  • Elevens to Rule them All

Four redwoods posted at Circus for some midsummer gloom. This is what went down, more or less:

Typical warm-up sequence in COP with 25x SSH, 25x Don Quiote, 25x Imperial Walkers, 25x LBC, 20x 4-count heels to heaven, 25x crabcakes.

Mosey to bus loop near sheltered area. Line up in front of curb. 10x 4-count lawnmower pulls (right), 10x 4-count lawnmower pulls (left), and 10x incline merkins. Rinse and repeat that sequence.

    Commence Elevens from Hell.
    round 1
    – 1 KB snatch (right)
    – 1 KB snatch (left)
    – run bus loop
    – 10 burpees
    – run bus loop

    round 2
    – 2 KB snatch (right)
    – 2 KB snatch (left)
    – run bus loop
    – 9 burpees
    – run bus loop

    round 3
    – 3 KB snatch (right)
    – 3 KB snatch (left)
    – run bus loop
    – 8 burpees
    – run bus loop

rinse and repeat for rounds 4 through 10 until each PAX member completes 10 KB snatches on each arm and 1 burpee.

    Number-a-rama
    Name-a-rama
COT with Honey Do taking us out

Moleskin. Opus rolled in a few minutes late, but did not miss much. He just returned from a 4 week vacation driving cross-country. This was his welcome back party! We were glad to have him out.

White Deer started talking trash the second Honey Do opened his car door. YHC knew running needed to be in the day’s recipe.

The elevens felt more like a Lucky Horseshoe than elevens on account of all of the running. The snatches and burpees have a nasty way of interfering with run mechanics. We all slowed significantly as the rounds progressed.

After the COT, everyone just laid around on the concrete sidewalk for quite some time. I could barely carry the KB back to the car.

Thanks for letting me lead. Jville

  • Kettlebell Dora (Extended)

Seven of the faithful showed up at CircusMaximus this morning with kettlebells in hand. Johnsonville (YHC) took Q, and this is what went down more or less:

    COP (warmup):
    10x BOYO
    20x SSH
    10x cherry pickers
    20x LBC
    10x IWs
Fairly lengthy sequence of arm circles

KB carry to front of school for KB Dora (Extended) — the first partner does the appointed exercise, the second runs down bus drive to fire hydrant (about 60 yards), does 1 BOYO, runs back replacing the first partner and continuing count. The first partner repeats the run. Rinse and repeat until designated count is reached.

50x merkin row (always makes me think of Toga)
    100x sit and kb press
    150x goblet squat
    200x kb swing
250x skull crusher (but, for this one, in lieu of running, non-exercising partner bear crawled up wheelchair ramp, touched door and crawled back to start)

KB carry back to VSF. COT with YHC taking us out.

We were thrilled to have Sugar Sock and Hardywood (who normally post at 45MOM) come out and see what we are up to out in the far reaches of F3RVA. The summer AO challenge has been great. There was not much downtime in the workout for mumble chatter, and men worked very hard to get through this one. Great job! Johnsonville

  • burpees, run, repeat

Six of the faithful met at GridIron on a humid morning. The Pax showed a strong tendency early to stand around and socialize. YHC put an abrupt end to that, and this is what went down, more or less:

COP warmup: 50x ssh, 20x burpees OYO (aka Slaughter Starter), 25x Don Quiotes, 25x Imperial Walkers

Mosey to corner of parking area near handicap parking. 25x ssh, 25x Alabama Prom Dates, 10x merkins

    Mosey to to well-populated track.

Starting together, 10x burpees followed immediately by 1/4 mi. repeat as fast as possible.
Recover with plank sequence as Pax regroups.

Mosey around the outside of the AO to front of the school.
Merkin ladder from 10 down to 1.

Mosey to VSF. 3 Minutes of Mary

COT, prayers, and deeply moving prayer by The Rev. Earthworm. Ending with coffeeteria by all by Mr. Holland.

Moleskin: Chum was LIFO, but we are glad he hiked out to the far west end. It was great to see Mr. Holland after a hiatus from GridIron. He is sporting the shaved head and beard… very stylishly. Eli and Mr. Holland were easily the leaders on the intervals, and looked like they could hand 7 more. The rest of us were about at our limits after 7. 100 burpees this morning in all. Several miles running, mostly at interval speed. Great job, men!

  • Metro Grill must be Earned

Five of the faithful posted at GridIron on a humid, cloudy morn. There were immediate requests to skip right to the post-workout breakfast at Metro Grill. Johnsonville (YHC) considered the requests and, despite their merits, elected to take Q and lead. This is what went down more or less:

Extended warmup with 25x ssh, 25x imperial walkers, 25x don quiotes, 25x standing mt climbers, 25x regular mt climbers, 10x merkins, 25x WWII situps, 25x arm circles each way, and 10x big arm circles each way.

Mossy over to the back row of 15 parking spaces. We climbed down the ladder of parking spaces with 1 burpee in each. 20x LBCs. Repeat up, back down, and back up.

Mossy a short distance over to the grassy dale. Run to bottom, do 1 merkin, backward run back up, do 5 Lt. Dans. Repeat increasing the number of merkins by 1 each set to 6.

Mossy over to the bleachers next to the adjacent gridiron. 25x dips OYO, 25x bench kicks OYO, 25x dips OYO, 25x bench kicks OYO.

Mossy over to the corner of the end zone. Bearimeter around the gridiron alternating with a partner. Everyone crawled the last leg along the back of the end zone to the point of origin.

Mossy down to the far side of the lower field onto a plush shady area. BLIMPS (Burpees, Lunges, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Plank Jacks, Situps)

Mossy back to the VSF for some Mary in cadence. American Hammers, Flutter Kicks, Rosalita.

COT with Earthworm taking us out. Coffeeteria at Metro Grill (caloric intake clearly exceeded caloric burn on this day).

Attila was with us in spirit, but physically away with leave. The pax took note that several of the exercises (parking lot burpees and bleacher kicks) were Attila signature moves.

Our friend Night Crawler has been away for some time without leave. Is it time for an intervention?

Lt. Dans with a backward hill run is a nasty combo that needs to be repeated often. Chum Bucket dominates that combo.

WhiteDeer looks more natural bear crawling that he does standing. He came out of the gate blazing on the Bearimeters.

Great job men. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to lead. Jville

  • FNG Tubbs Visits Circus

Three of the faithful and one FNG posted at CircusMaximus with kettlebells in hand. Johnsonville (YHC) took the Q, and this is what went down, more or less —

warmup with 25x ssh, 25x imperial walkers, 25x don quiotes, 25x flutter kicks, plank sequence, long-time arm circles

mosey to sidewalk by bus loop for ciabatta lawnmower pulls, alternating arms.

mosey about 1/2 way down bus loop toward pump rd for ciabatta kb swings.

mosey to end of bus loop. run a brisk lap.

ciabatta merkins (feel the burn!) Chum would have been stronger on round 8 than round 1 (that is, had he bothered to get out of bed).

mosey around the school to the side facing pump rd. ciabatta WWII situps with KB presses at top.

    10 burpees

KB carry back to VSF. Mary with Alabama prom dates, box cutters, and ‘merican hammers.

COT with Attila taking us out.

FNG Al Lombardy, introduced himself and presented himself for naming. But without the keen wit of DK, we were unable to come up with a fitting name on the spot, YHC having summarily rejected “Big Al”, “Weird Al”, and “Hemmeroid.” Upon reflection and in a state of 80s nostalgia, YHC takes note that a particularly heinous crime boss on Miami Vice was named “Al Lombard.” YHC thus names FNG Al Lombardy, “Tubbs.”

    Good job men! Jville

  • Rainy Deck of Death

Three of the faithful braved buckets of rain to post at GridIron. The rain kindly held out until we kicked off the thang with 25x ssh. As it intensified, we continued to warm up with 25x don quiotes. We moved under the shelter and continued with 20x dips, 20x right leg stepup, 20x dips, 20x left leg stepup.

Mosey to the front small overhang of the school. Deck of death. Aces and 2s were 10x burpees each. Hearts were merkins; diamonds were crabcakes, spades were 2 count dollies, and spades were WWII situps. For all exercised but burpees, the numbers done turned on the card # from 3 to 13.

Mosey back to the shelter near the VSF and finish with 20x dips, 20x right leg stepup, 20x dips, 20x left leg stepup.

    COT. Great work men! Jville

  • EFHutton Meets the Corporate Challenge the Old-Fashoned Way

Five of the faithful, including EFHutton, a late-arriving double-dipper from DogPile, posted at GridIron for a rainy, chilly, and blustery morning. YHC (Johnsonville) took Q, and this is how it went down more or less:

Warmup with 50x SSH in cadence. The wind was gusting hard and blowing bayag-fayet rain sideways.

Mosey over to school and around to the pillars. To echo last weeks Hampton/Newport News launch, we repeated the BLIMPS.
50 seconds on, 10 seconds off AMRAP — Burpees, Lunges, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Plank Jacks, and WWII Situps.

    Mosey to center of pillars.
45 seconds on, 15 seconds off AMRAP — Burpees, Lunges, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Plank Jacks, and WWII Situps.

Mosey to far side of of pillars.
40 seconds on, 20 seconds off AMRAP — Burpees, Lunges, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Plank Jacks, and WWII Situps.

    EFHutton arrived.

Line up along block wall at rear of school.
Chiabatta donkey kicks / wall planks.

    Short mosey to picnic table.
    Chiabatta dips.

Mosey back to fenced in set of four tennis courts.
Bearimiter stopping at each of the 4 corners for an exercise in cadence.

Mosey clockwise around AO pausing at school’s front entrance for American hammers, Alabama prom dates, and box cutters.
Mosey back to VSF. Plank sequence.

COT with Earthworm taking us out.

    Moleskin —

Cecil was under the weather and could not attend. NightCrawler was in Hilton Head and could not attend. WhiteDeer group texted the GridIron regulars to taunt Cecil and NightCrawler for not attending, and then opted to sleep in on account of the rain.

In sharp contract, EFHutton completed the old-school Corporate Challenge by posting at a workout every day of the week starting Sunday and finishing with a GridIron double-dip. Red Pill.

Despite the rain and early gusts of wind, it turned out to be a good morning for a workout. The full pax, excluding EF Hutton, enjoyed coffeeteria afterwards.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead. Respectfully, Jville
