  • 3 for the show

3 denizens of the gloom showed up to put in some miles, rucking and running.

YHC and Yardsale rucked for a little over 4 miles, starting at 5:00, Speakeasy put in 3.5 miles on his run. If you want to know his route, show up next time! 🙂

There was good mumblechatter on the ruck, probably not much on the run….

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • The Q lived up to his name

9 men including 1 FNG showed up to a cool(er) Saturday morning to kickstart the weekend.

YHC hadn’t Q’d DaPile before, and in his excitement skipped COP entirely, sorry about that guys.

Started off in the field across from the Kings Charter Clubhouse with 4 corners. Run or lunge between corners, 15 reps each exercise, they were merkins, Helix squats, LBC’s and SSH. Mosey to the tennis courts for a Dora but with 3 people per team (triple check Dora?), timer does suicides across the 3 tennis courts, others work on 100 LBC’s, 200 invisible jump ropes, and 300 shoulder taps.

Mosey to the playground area for a double dose of triple checks. First dose, timer runs to touch 3 trees, can’t touch the same tree twice, other 2 do either skull crushers or hold plank. Second dose, timer bear crawls up the hill and across parking lot to the lamp post, other 2 do either jerkins or dips.

Mosey back to the field for 11’s, double count toe taps and boxcutters, then 5 minutes of stretching, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

Halfway through 4 corners YHC realized he had skipped COP–oh well, too late, just keep moving. Kudos to Mongoose (FNG) for pushing through the workout, as Helix reminded us near the end, Hardywood is fond of saying “there’s always something left in the tank fellas!” YHC realized he had not planned enough when the PAX cruised through half of the planned workout in 20 minutes, hence the second dose of triple check. Great to lead as always, and welcome to Mongoose (Rob Bedford)! Hope to see you again very soon. It was great for YHC to see Wild Thing and Rounders again, and to meet Macho, as well as catching up with Corn Beef and Hash afterwards at The Local Cup.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing…

  • It looked good on paper

3 men showed up to help YHC celebrate his post birthday bash at MANNdate. This is how it went down on a pleasant spring morning.

COP: SSH x 52 in honor of YHC’s birthday, LBC’s, alabama prom dates, arm circles, DQ’s, Imperial walkers, helicopters

Mosey with KB to drop off loop for oval time. Four corners/curves, different exercise each spot: lawnmowers, 5×10, each arm, demon crushers, 5×10, American Hammers, 5×10, single leg squats, 5×5, each leg.

Back to start of loop, start walking around the loop, every 20 steps switch to a new exercise, never stop walking. Exercises were: halos, around the worlds, tricep extension with both arms, don’t drop the soap.

Find a curb, time for 11’s, situp press and calf raises, only had time for a few sets of these.

COT, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

It’s been a while since I Q’d, and very few so far this year. Felt great to come up with something new like walking around the loop while doing exercises, which we all concluded pretty much sucked, so it’s sure to show up in the future at MANNdate. Great mumblechatter this morning, though we did for some reason start off with talk about bank mergers, thankfully moved on quickly to more entertaining topics, though at this hour YHC cannot remember any of them. Prayers this morning for the families in Texas, and our fervent hope is that these tragedies don’t keep happening.

We talked about getting together for a 3rd F event in the early part of June, perhaps for a golfing outing. Let’s make it happen!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing…

  • NOT a solo Q

2 men showed up for a chilly and wet morning beatdown, working toward the weekend.

COP: mosey to center of front parking lot, SSH, DQ, LBC’s, helicopters, Ukrainian soldiers, merkins.

No need to mosey for first exercise, modified 4 corners, starting in the middle, do 10 SSH, then run to first corner of lot, 40 LBC’s, return to center for 10 more SSH, run to next corner for 40 lunges, return for 10 SSH, run to next corner for 40 shoulder taps, return and 10 SSH, run to last corner for 40 calf raises.

Mosey to middle of school, partner up (with only 2 people this was easy), one partner does the exercise while the other starts lunging around the perimeter, when exercise is complete run to catch partner, switch out, continue until all exercises are done by both partners. Exercises were American hammers, Helix squats, merkins, Bobbie Hurley’s, 30 reps.

Run back to parking lot for a few minutes of stretching, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC was having a VERY busy, stressful week of work, looking forward to Q’ing this morning, but a 5:31 was contemplating returning home to walk our dog for 45 minutes instead when Yardsale zoomed into the AO. Thanks Yardsale! Great mumblechatter this morning on variety of topics, including Hanover County School’s LGBTQ+ policies and how it’s great to be able to talk about these issues with friends who have differing views, just another benefit of F3!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing…

  • Just getting Yardsale warmed up

3 men came to help YHC kick off another week at The Anvil. This is how it went down.

COP: SSH, DQ’s, LBC’s, helicopters, cherry pickers, Imperial walkers.

Mosey to track, partner up. Partners start on opposite sides of the track, run in different directions, stopping at first 2 corners for an exercise, when reaching midway point run to middle of field for 10 booyah merkins, repeat, every 2 laps mosey to playground for 25 calf raises and 20 swing merkins, mosey back to field and switch directions and exercises. Exercises were 25 LBC’s and 15 merkins one direction, 15 monkey humpers and 25 Helix squats the other direction. Everyone was able to try each way twice, then mosey back to the flag. Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

The Anvil was a solo Q last week for YHC, so it was great to see the PAX already gathered when I pulled up this morning. Planted the SH and took off! Mumblechatter was strong, centered on the trial in Minnesota, politicians in general, and somehow we talked about Yardsale and his M for a bit, none of which will be put into the BB, as YHC is still thinking “TMI!” It was a great workout today, and one to remember for the merkin challenge, as we did 110 overall today.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing….

  • 2 for the win!

2 Davilians, but not the Q, showed up to MANNdate on a sunny and 70 morning.

COP: SSH, arm circles, hillbillies, LBC’s, DQ’s, cherry pickers.

Mosey back to our KB’s, first exercise (by Trout), 1 person runs the loop, other does following exercises: KB swings, lawnmowers, halos. No Idea’s turn, Transition to AMRAP, demon crushers, copperhead squats. Finish up with 11’s, calf raises with KB, tricep extensions.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

The Q sheet said Bulkhead had this morning, but at 5:32 there was no Bulkhead, so hot potato time. Mumblechatter around investments (we both have some), kids (we both have some), etc.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing

  • 500 of what?

1 Davillian showed on a balmy 45 degree morning to kick off the week.

COP: SSH, arm circles, LBC’s, Imperial walkers, cherry pickers, boat canoes, DQ. Mosey to track, start at midpoint, run to each corner, do 125 burpees, when finished mosey back to SF.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took the PAX out.

    NMS

YHC showed up, at 5:30 no one else did, so spent 45 minutes working out on the track. Some may question that YHC actually did 500 burpees. Hard to know if you weren’t there.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing (and this time no one else does either!)

  • 7 days late and 7 minutes short

2 DaVillians posted on a pleasantly frigid morning to hoist some iron. The following is a chilling account of their venture!

COP: SSH, arm circles, helicopters, LBC’s

Mosey back to your bell, time to warm up! Ground and pound time, exercises as follows:

    28 clean and press, 50 LBC’s

    26 lawnmowers (26 each arm), 50 LBC’s

    32 high pulls , 50 LBC’s

    24 thrustups to tricep extension, 50 LBC’s

    7 copperhead squats, 50 LBC’s

    24 lunges with bell, 50 LBC’s

9 merkins with one hand on KB, switching arms each rep, 18 total, 50 LBC’s

    20 halos to front raise, 50 LBC’s

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out

    NMS

YHC planned this workout for last week, 10/27, as the New York subway started operation that day in 1904. All the reps corresponded (with creative math) to numbers related to the subway.

Original line had 28 stations, now there are 26 lines. The longest line is 32 miles long, and the subway runs 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. In 1968, operation was taken over by the Mass Transit Authority (MTA), add 1+9+6+8, you get 24. The first line was 9 miles long, and the subway now serves 4.5 million people daily (4×5=20). Add in all those LBC’s, plus the ones we did in COP, you get 472 (for those scoring at home, or if you are alone), which is the number of current stations in the whole system.

YHC wasn’t feeling well last week, prompting a hot potato by the PAX, was glad to Q the workout this week, a mere 7 days late. It didn’t take as much time as anticipated, ending at 6:08, so we stretched for a bit. YHC appreciates Mr. Holland loaning me his 25 pound KB for some of the exercises (lower back was acting up), and we both think the halos to front raise is a great exercise that really sucks!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing….

  • Gut punch protection

8 hardy men sweated and pushed each other in the gloom, here is what went down.

Mosey to basketball court for COP: SSH, helicopters, hillbillies, DQ’s, LBC’s, merkins. Mosey to middle of school parking lot for first exercise. Partner up for Dora, partner runs to touch a tree, other does exercises as follows: 100 WW2’s, 200 boxcutters, and 300 LBC’s.

Mosey to baseball diamond at back of field, partner up. Partner runs the bases, other does following exercises along the base paths: broad jump burpees, lunges, bear crawl, crab walk, and finish it off with SSH. Switch occurred when running partner caught up.

Mosey back to flag, numberama, namerama, Corn Beef took us out. He has the Q on Monday at the Anvil, it’s his 55th birthday, so let’s show up to help him celebrate!

    NMS

YHC sent the call out last night, looking for more numbers at the Creek, and the PAX responded. Great mumblechatter this morning, which certainly helped YHC keep moving when I felt like stopping. A couple of the PAX remarked that The Carpenter would have appreciated doing SSH’s around the base paths, so will send that idea up to NJ for him to use! YHC dropped some historical facts about October 22nd, including in 1797 the first parachute jump took place, in 1884 times zones were created and first World Series was placed, and in 1927 Harry Houdini was punched in the stomach (with permission) which probably ruptured his appendix, causing his death. Some of the PAX thought this occurred in 1827, sorry to burst your bubble, guys! 😉

As usual, I have No Idea what I”m doing….

  • Slap both cheeks

4 men escaped the clutches of the fart sack to welcome the week on a beautiful fall morning.

COP: SSH, Russian soldiers, LBC’s, merkins, helicopters, DQ’s.

    The thang

Mosey to hill on side of school, bear crawl up hill, exercise at top, crawl bear down hill, 20 LBC’s, repeat. Exercises at top were merkins, split jacks, and 2 count shoulder taps. Mosey to the track, do an exercise, run around the track, repeat. Exercises were boxcutters, elbow plank for 20 seconds, and Helix squats. Mosey back to parking lot, partner up. Timer does parking lot tracers, parter does dips, hand release merkins, and SSH’s. Stretching for last 3 minutes.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

Mumblechatter, as would be expected with Yardsale and Mudface on hand, was lively from COP through COT, including how Yardsale makes friends in the bathroom, what that could mean, including a reference to South Park and the inspiration for the title of this backblast. YHC loves the mumblechatter because it distracts from the pain or soreness of the work, and occasions laughter so hard at times you struggle to exercise!

During announcements YHC talked about accountability, personal and to the community. In this case YHC referenced the DaVille F3 community. Hard to put a timeframe on it, but for a while our numbers have been down at workouts. Looking at past backblasts it was common to have a minimum of 5-6 pax at a workout, but too often now we’re lucky to get 3, and frequently it is less. YHC is as guilty of this as anyone else, as my attendance has slacked off greatly in the past year, as has my effort at the workouts. F3 is SUPPOSED TO BE HARD, that’s how you improve, by pushing yourself past your limits to set new ones–the body should feel sore after a workout, otherwise it’s not much of a workout. Iron sharpens iron. YHC is challenging himself to show up at least 3x/week, put in maximum effort with each exercise and workout, and encourage his brothers to do the same. When out in the community, don’t let an EH opportunity pass by, try to give the gift of F3 to someone else each week, or month. I encourage each of you to think about what your goals are for F3 and push yourself to reach them. Know I will be there, encouraging you, and doing everything I can to reach mine.
