  • Lucky and Smart

4 warriors braved the not too cold temps to hoist iron and insult each other.  It went down like this—

    COP

20 Freddie Mercurys     15 SSH       20 arm circles (small, big, reverso)

    15 Don Quixotes         20 LBC’s       15 Helicopters

Mosey to bus loop/parking lot (this sparked first debate)

4 times around the loop stopping 4 times each lap, adding an exercise until you hit 8, then decreasing by one until you ran out.  The exercises were:  8 lunges, 7 halos, 6 lawnmowers, 5 KB swings, 4 overhead press, 3 goblet squats with a curl at the bottom, 2 snatches and 1 tricep press

    Mosey to SF

10 sit up  presses    10 boat canoes (Chewy style)     10 good mornings    10 those things on the curb

10 around the worlds       10 something else       Hold KB out until you can’t

COT, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out

    NMS

YHC rolled up to find Mudface and Opus waiting, and Spit pulled in while the SF was being planted.  Mumblechatter started immediately, and Mudface was in fine form today, no one was spared.  Unfortunately at the time of this report YHC is so tired none of the insults/truths/smart ass observations are coming to mind.  Spit had to leave early and missed the final round by the SF, but led the PAX the rest of the way.  During COP everyone had a turn imitating Emoji’s counting style to the point YHC had to keep his own count.  Come back soon, Emoji, we need just one of you!

As usual, I have no idea what I’m doing.

  • Maybe, just maybe

2 PAX showed up, and here is how it went down.

Ran 2 miles, stopping every half mile for 20 burpees, 30 SSH, 40 American hammers, and 50 mountain climbers.  Retrace the route, sprinting for 45 seconds every half mile.  Return to the parking lot, bear crawl long sides, partner carry short sides, mosey to SF for 150 LBC’s, 150 Freddie Mercurys.  Yeah, that’s the ticket….

    OR

2 PAX showed up, ran for 3 miles, called it a day.

As usual, I have no idea what I’m doing.

  • A Salute to 25

6 PAX rolled up to a morning which was much warmer than those in recent memory.  It went down like this.

    COP, IC

25 SSH         25 LBC’s       25   Arm Circles (small and big)

    25 Helicopters         25 Mountain climbers

    Mosey to bus loop

4 cones spaced 25 feet apart was the stage.  Starting at the first cone, do KB swings, death crawl to second cone, lawnmowers, death crawl to next cone, halos, death crawl to last cone, sit up presses, lunge back to first cone, that’s one cycle.  Do 5 cycles, starting with 5 reps and going up by 5 each time until you reach 25 during the last cycle.

Mosey to SF, 25 reps of the following:

overhead tricep press      American Hammers     Figure 8’s        around the world   Merkins

on your six, hold 6 inches for 25 seconds, 2 reps

YHC was reminded that yesterday was his sister and brother-in-law’s 25th wedding anniversary.  This made YHC feel old and also reminded him of what a great achievement it is to love and work together for 25 years, as these two have a wonderful marriage and 3 great sons.  So YHC decided to honor them by having everything be about 25 today.  Relationships are about many things, including managing the ups and downs through the years, remembering to laugh as often as possible, and above all be kind.  Attempt to show your M the love that Christ shows to us, and in the attempt (while certain to come up short) there is strength and grace.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • The Murph is at The Creek!

12 bonny lads showed up in the gloom to commemorate an early St. Patrick’s Day and crush a workout.

YHC decided to introduce the Murph to The Creek, so we started off with a mile run, and after a bit of confusion all of the Pax killed it and some even put in extra credit before YHC could flag them down.  Mosey to the picnic table pavilion for COP, IC:

18 SSH, because Ireland joined Britain in 1800 to form the United Kingdom

5 Merkins, because the Potato Famine lasted 5 years, from 1845-1849

22 Imperial Walkers, because the Irish Civil War, begin by Michael Collins, started in 1922

11 arm circles, big and small, then reverso, because St. Patrick died in 461 AD (4+6+1)

20 LBC’s for March 17 (3+17), the date on which St. Patrick died

    The Murph, OYO

100 Dips              200 leg raises, while holding a potato between your feet             300 jump squats, because it’s also March Madness

Run a mile to finish the Murph

Mosey to the SF, plank up for 2 minutes while YHC reads St. Patrick Day facts:

-St Patty’s Day is the celebrated in more countries than any other national holiday

-Myth: St. Patrick drove snakes out of Ireland.  There were never snakes in Ireland, and this is allegorical (thanks Opus) because his Christian ministry drove out the Druids, who were supposedly snake worshippers

-Lenten restrictions are traditionally lifted on St. Patrick’s Day, so indulge if you wish tomorrow!

-the 3 leaf shamrock supposedly is associated with St. Patrick because he used it to explain the Holy Trinity

YHC had a lot of fun coming up with this workout, and it seemed the PAX enjoyed it as well, because they crushed it.  There was some mumblechatter about “this isn’t going to end well” (oh, but it did, more on that in a bit) and Mudface was bringing the effort, but had to keep stopping as his 2.0’s didn’t seem awake this morning, so he got to keep ‘encouraging’ them to move it.  Hardywood killed the Murph, and we didn’t realize he had finished the exercises until he was gone running the second mile, and perhaps a 3rd, leading to speculation that he might be a robot, or maybe he benefits from “different air” not hailing from DaVille.

After COT, YHC invited everyone to his car, and all adults were given the reward of a bottle of Guiness, while 2.0’s received PowerAde (evidently blue is a good flavor).

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, and thanks for letting me lead, it is always an honor.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing

  • Lost my mind, lost the way

A dry morning rolled around for a change, and 8 hearty souls showed up, with the aim of letting iron sharpen iron.  This is how it worked out.

    COP-IC

    Freddie Mercury’s x 15       Arm circles, 10/5 small/big, reverso        SSH x 20

    Don Quixotes x 10             Merkins x 5

Mosey to parking lot curb, ready for 11’s–Goblet squats and halos, lunging from curb to median.

YHC then set up 4 pairs of cones, in a straight line, about 25 feet apart.  The PAX lunges to first cone, does 5 reps of each exercise, walks back to start, lunge to second cone, 10 reps, walk back, lunge to third cone, 15 reps, walk back, lunge to fourth cone, 20 reps, walk back.  Exercises were KB swings, around the world, lawnmowers, and snatches.  For lack of a better term this was called KB suicides.

Mosey to SF, 5 reps each of sit up press, American Hammers and good mornings.  Then Chewy led us in 5 reps of Boat/Canoe, KB style.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC knew it was going to be a good workout when he realized 2 PAX were graduating today, so first thing was Pick Two and Chewy led the graduation march around the bus loop, new KB’s held high, followed by PAX humming Pomp and Circumstance.

We moseyed over to the school entrance, where YHC called out the first COP exercise “Freddie Mercurys” and then YHC promptly started doing LBC’s, only for Emoji to call him on it (thanks Emoji).  YHC was amazed this didn’t cause more mumblechatter from the PAX, especially Mudface and Spit, as YHC gives them a hard time when they mess up.  Spit did do a good job of causing YHC to lose focus during SSH by doing said exercises in very creative ways.

Overall the PAX crushed the workout, and YHC was proud to lead.  It was interesting to see at least two PAX lose their sense of direction while walking in a straight line during the KB suicides. Congrats again to Pick Two and Chewy on graduating!

As usual, I have No Idea.

  • Rain and Rainbows

14 strong ventured out to help YHC with his VQ at the Creek.  It went down like this.

    Mosey around the church

    COP-7 reps each, IC

SSH     arm circles (small, big and reverso)      Helix squats       Imperial Walkers      LBC’s          Helicopters     Don Quixotes

Mosey to picnic table pavilion for Proper Dora

    100 sets:   1 Split Jack        2  2-count Mountain Climbers       3 LBC’s

The PAX crushed this so went into Derkins and Dips, start at 7 reps and work down.

Mosey back to the SH, did a little stretching, and YHC took us out.

    NMS

This was YHC’s first time Q’ing The Creek, and couldn’t come up with a theme, so asked his 2.0’s for help.  Rainbow suggested “unicorns and rainbows,” and after a search came up with nothing numerical etc. about unicorns, YHC decided that a rainbow having 7 colors would be it.  YHC knows—-very inspiring.  The PAX was very happy this was the number when it came to the Derkins/Dips combo, as 10 might have been fatal after the Dora.  Also very glad the rain had stopped prior to commencement, as YHC is really sick of rain.

Thanks for allowing YHC to lead and try out a new Q, will definitely be back.  Big salute to all the 2.0’s for their work this morning, and to the PAX for the assist when YHC forgot an exercise name (this may become YHC’s trademark).

  • Soggy Sojourners

A pax of 2 dragged themselves out of bed, made the wise decision to not put on rain gear (?) and headed out for a little run.  YHC and Mudface decided to test running on the cross country trail for the first time in almost a month, and quickly realized they were 0 for 2 on decisions this morning, as it proved very muddy and slippery.  Called an audible, got back on the road, and meandered for a while, amounting to 3 miles in rain that went from a slight drizzle to steady downpour.

Hopefully soon it will dry up enough to get back to running through the woods again–a lot more fun than road running–BEEP! BEEP!

  • Ice?? I don’t see any icEEEE!

YHC and Mudface showed up to run, ended up with a vigorous walk, as about 1 minute into the warmup both of us almost became one with the asphalt.  After this was repeated several times, even YHC took the hint and slowed down and by unanimous vote it was decided the run was going to be a walk.

We did see two other runners out, and Mudface warned them of the treacherous footing.  Given our pace, mumblechatter was heard throughout, ranging from the Eagles victory (E-A-G-L-E-S!!!!) to our kids questionable choices (they’re smart, we’re sure of it!).  All told we still managed about 3 miles.

  • 70 and Sunny, Almost

What difference a couple of weeks can make, as the temperature when YHC last did TR was 16 degrees, while this morning was a balmy 50.  Mudface didn’t get the memo, as he still showed up in a sweatshirt that he couldn’t figure out how to unzip…

Spit quickly passed YHC and Mudface and did the Honey Meadows loop for 5 miles.  YHC and Mudface meandered through the woods and roads for about 3 miles.  It was great to not have to bundle up for a workout as has been the norm for several weeks (if your name isn’t Helix), there was no sign of the mysterious dog that came after Mudface last time, and YHC managed an entire run without having to retie his shoes.

    See you in the gloom!

  • Dashing through the snow

YHC and Mudface were the Pax, and did our normal run/walk workout, with some trail clearing thrown in as well.  Didn’t get quite as far as normal due to this and having to slow down at times for snowy patches which had turned icy, about 3.4 miles were completed.  There was some mumble chatter about not looking forward to running in sub 30 temps, but the consensus is that since we are just smart enough to do situps, etc. in that temp running should be easy!
