  • Back in the saddle

Three hardy men joined YHC for his first Q in over 2 months, and on a morning that seemed more spring than summer, this is what we did.

Mosey to front of school for COP, Freddie Mercury’s, SSH, arm circles, DQ, LBC’s and helicopters. Mosey back to drop off loop for Lucky Horseshoe. Stopping at each light pole, adding an exercise each time, 20 reps each. Exercises were lunges, halos, lawnmowers, swings, overhead press, goblet squats with a curl at the bottom, and snatches. Ran out of time at the second to last stop before we could get to demon crushers.

COT, numberama, namerama, YHC led us out.

YHC attended his first workout in 2 months last week, which brought the expected amount of pain the next few days, but it was great to be back after a break due to the pandemic. Great to see Bulkhead, Phonics and Yardsale again, and found out today was Yardsale’s return to F3 as well. Thanks for helping knock a little more of the rust off!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing…

  • Swing your partner

4 men appeared for a beatdown on the eve of the first Richmond ‘blizzard’ of 2020. Mosey to basketball court for COP: SSH, arm circles, Imperial walkers, DQ, helicopters. Head over to the track for bear crawl catch-up. Partner up, start on opposite sides of the track, first partner bear crawls, second partner runs to catch them, then starts bear crawl, while first partner does 10 LBC’s, 20 SSH and 30 shoulder taps prior to running. Repeat until 2 circuits of the track have been completed.

Mosey to hill at the back of school, stopping at each playground area to do 20 dips, 60-80 in all (depending on your definition of “area”). Switch partners, first partner does runs up hill to the playground, then backwards down the hill to relieve second partner, switch. Exercises done by second partner were balls to the wall, squats, merkins and boxcutters. Go until both partners have done all exercises twice.

Mosey to parking lot in front of school, parking lot tracers for 30 seconds, then complete 10 merkins while saying a prayer of thanks for a loved one, total of 3 minutes. Mosey to flag, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

YHC has not been to the Anvil in several weeks, felt great to get back. Mumblechatter was lively throughout, and the title of this backblast came from the PAX singing a song about dosee doeing with their partner. Lots of partner work today, inspired by YHC’s frequent thoughts this week of our brother, Wild Thing, who recently lost his M to cancer. Please keep him and his family in your prayers, and for those wishing to attend the services this weekend, The Carpenter put out a preblast today with details. Thanks for letting me lead today.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing….

  • Where’s Trout?

3 men showed up to post some miles and enjoy fellowship (the latter for 2 of the 3).

YHC and Mudface did our usual loop around the schools and into Honey Meadows, while Trout , quote, “ran through Rutland, a 4 mile loop, past Bulkhead’s house (probably asleep), ran by Spike’s house (probably asleep).”

Before he headed out, Trout told us “If I’m not here when you get back, I had to go.” This made YHC question how feeble minded Trout thinks we are…. “you mean if you’re not here, you had to go? Sorry, I don’t get it.”

Mudface and YHC discussed, among other things, how a running AO and his (Mudface) training for a Strong Man competition don’t really mix well.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing….

  • And visitor makes 3

3 men showed up to kick off the week, including a visitor stamping his Winter Tour pass for Tomato Run. YHC was solo today rucking with Mudface out of town, and put in 3 miles around the schools. Upchuck and Trout ran 4-5 miles, YHC is not sure of the route, forgot to ask. Good to see you Upchuck, thanks for making the trip!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing…

  • It’s cold, let’s geaux!

7 hardy and foolish souls appeared bit by bit out of the gloom to partake of YHC’s second Q this week. This is our venture.

Mosey to basketball court area, 1 loop around and time for COP. 9 each of SSH, DQ, helicopters, Imperial walkers and LBC’s. Mosey to end of field by the buses. Bear crawl 10 paces, do 10 merkins, lunge 10 paces, 20 2-count mountain climbers, bear crawl 10 paces, 30 reverse crunches, lunge 10 paces, 40 LBC’s, bear crawl 10 paces, 50 SSH, then count down until other end of field is reached.

Mosey to playground at back of school, Dora time, so partner up. Timer runs to end of building and back, partner works on 100 squats, 200 LBC’s and 300 shoulder taps. Once complete, Al Gore for the six, 10 count, then mosey back to basketball court area. Very fast 4 corners with 5 minutes left, lunge between corners, complete 1 merkin, 7 burpees, 9 jump squats, and finally 81 SSH. Run back to flag for 2 minutes of Mary including boat/canoes and flutter kicks. Numberama, namerama, Mudface took us out.

    NMS

YHC is still riding high from LSU’s championship season, so started by marking off a football field, then teaming up for a Dora (cause it takes a team to win). The numbers on the four corners are the jersey numbers of players on LSU’s team that won, respectively, the Biletnikoff (best WR), Thorpe (best DB), and Heisman (best, period), awards, along with the TE, Thaddeus Moss.

Mumblechatter this morning was about how cold and wet it was, and several of the PAX inadvertently sat in freezing puddles on the field. The cold did keep the PAX moving, and they crushed the DORA. Great to see everyone out there, and hear even more quotes from Water Boy.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing…

  • Time to Geaux

7 men showed up for YHC’s first Q in a while. In a warm for January morning, this is what we did.

COP, 15 each (for the 15 wins LSU achieved this season)

SSH, LBC’s, merkins, DQ, windmills, Imperial walkers, mosey to middle of soccer field, partner up. Meet your partner in the middle of the field, do 30 reps of the exercise with partner, bear crawl to the goal post, 30 reps OYO, run back to middle, repeat with a different exercise, 7 rounds in total. Exercises were LBC’s, squats, merkins, monkey humpers, jump squats, shoulder taps and American Hammers. 7 is the number of Top 25 teams (in the final poll) that LSU defeated this season, 60 (30 time 2) is the number of TD passes thrown by Joe Burreax this season, including 13 in the playoffs.

Mosey to play ground area for 11’s: dips and merkins with your feet in a swing. Burreaux averaged 11 yards per completion this year while completing 76% of his passes. Head back to flag for 5 minutes of Mary, total of 67 reps of exercises including burpees, diamond merkins and WW2 situps. Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC was extremely fortunate to fly down to Baton Rouge to watch the national championship game with his family, celebrating each TD and great play with other (real) Tiger fans, whose team plays in the REAL Death Valley. We have a live Bengal tiger for a mascot, they have a guy in an orange suit which looks like a reject from a Frosted Flakes commercial circa 1985. It was a great time, and YHC thought it would be appropriate to recognize some of the many records broken this season by his beloved LSU Tigers. YHC also decided to Q today and tomorrow as lately YHC’s attendance at F3 has been spotty at best, but YHC will show up when No Idea is on the Q sheet. Mumblechatter today seemed to keep returning to what it was like to grow up and be educated in Louisiana, with many references to Water Boy, some of which are not that far off, but no, YHC’s mother is not a Swamp Witch. Great job today fellas, it was a blast to lead. See you in the gloom tomorrow!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing….

  • Were you drinking when you made this up?

5 men braved the cold (but thankfully it wasn’t raining) to finish off the week in the best possible way.

COP: SSH, Imperial walkers, arm circles, LBC’s, merkins, DQ. Mosey to curb in front of school.

20 reps each of calf raises, dips, toe taps and merkins, run and touch a bus between each exercise.

30 reps each of slow Helix squats, LBC’s, donkey kicks and jump squats, touch a bus after doing 2 exercises.

60 reps (yes, 60) each of SSH, 2-count mountain climbers, Freddie Mercurys and 2-count split jacks, touch a bus after doing 2 exercises.

70 reps each of 2-count American hammers, overhead claps and side lunges, 30 reps of shoulder taps (cut down for time), touch a bus after 2 exercises.

Plank on the curb, hand walk down 5 ‘steps’, complete a diamond merkin and 20 squats, repeat 2 more times working toward the flag. Lunge last half for time.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC has not been very diligent about coming the last few weeks. Sure, there are reasons, but any PAX knows it’s not hard to think of reasons to let the fartsack claim you each morning. YHC will do better, because every workout attended helps both you and the PAX, as we all bring something wonderfully unique to the group. YHC is inspired to work harder simply by seeing how hard the PAX is striving, not in a competitive way, but instead their hard work shows YHC that the effort is the achievement.

Great work was put in by all, and not surprisingly, YHC did not plan enough and had to ad lib with the PAX’s assistance, thanks again men. When the reps jumped from 30 to 60, there was some questioning of the state YHC was in when drawing up the workout. Nope, sadly this was done while not under the influence of anything, including wisdom or good judgement. Proud to lead and be a part of this group!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing…

  • Dudes and Victoria’s Secret

Four men ventured forth to indulge YHC’s latest attempt to link this day in history to a KB workout. Here is what happened.

COP: SSH, DQ, LBC’s, arm circles, Imperial walkers, mosey back to the parking lot.

Today is the birthday of Jeff Bridges, who has made over 70 films, so to kick things off: 10 each of one hand swings, snatches, merkin rows, halos, situp press, lawnmowers and overhead press, run a lap between each set.

Move on to 40 each of lunges, demon crushers, slingshots and American hammers, for a total of 160, which is how many times the word “dude” is uttered in The Big Lebowski.

Next up, 22 each of curls, tricep press, lawnmowers and halos, for a total of 88, the same number as the keys on a piano, referencing The Fabulous Baker Boys. Lastly, 20 of something YHC can’t remember, lunge to other side of parking lot, 20 of something else (didn’t write the last part down).

    NMS

The mumblechatter was in high form today. Trout announced early on that he had Thai food last night, and his fourth F was strong, such that the PAX asked him if he had the runs. Trout: “not yet” to which Mudface replied: “does that mean you have something stopping it up, like a scented plug of some sort” and so on and so forth, with guesses where a plug of that kind might be purchased (Victoria’s Secret–is that the secret?). On a separate note, please check out YouTube for a clip of that classic Jeff Bridges movie from 1975, Stay Hungry, co-starring Ah-nold and Freddy Krueger. Cinematic gold.

As usual I have No Idea what I’m doing…

  • Merkins? Just a few

Six intrepid men arose to meet a decently warm November morn, enough that some bare legs were present. Here is how it went down.

Mosey to blacktop for COP: SSH, LBC’s, DQ, arm circles, helicopters.

Mosey to end of field for some run and fun.

Run 100% of field, 100 LBC’s, return to start, 20 HRM.

Run 75% of field, 75 plank jacks, return, 20 HRM.

Run 50% of field, 50 SSH, return, 20 HRM.

Run 25% of field, 25 2 count flutter kicks, return, 20 HRM.

Run 10% of field, 10 merkins, return, 20 HRM, Al Gore for the six.

Mosey to playground for 11’s, Iron Mikes and Iron Hulk, because, well, more merkins. Bear crawl and lunge in between.

Mosey back to flag, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

Most of the PAX had been present for Mudface’s merkin challenge yesterday at The Anvil, and probably would have been okay with few or zero today, but this was not to be. YHC did try to break them up between other exercises, however. The 4th F was omnipresent this morning, with Corned Beef and Trout being the main suppliers, and Mudface was in fine form from the beginning, with some Emoji-like counting during COP, along with almost kicking YHC accidentally on purpose during the 11’s. As usual, it was a lot of fun to lead, and congrats to Beulah for posting the first time on Monday and every day this week. 231 Merkins by YHC’s count. Nicely done!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • ET legs

6 men climbed out of bed, tired from staying up to watch the Nationals win their FIRST WORLD SERIES! Time to get moving.

COP: SSH, helicopters, DQ, Freddie Mercuries, merkins. Mosey to field.

20 of each of these: merkins, boxcutters, plank jacks, Helix squats, mountain climbers, LBC’s. In between exercises alternate bear crawl and lunges, 10 each, until you reach the end of the field, turn around and repeat.

Mosey to top of hill near second playground, Dora time! Partner up, 100 Freddie Mercuries, 200 2-count flutter kicks, 300 SSH. Timer runs to the end of the third playground and back. Mosey to inside perimeter of school, time to work the abs. 20 heels to heaven, 40 something I can’t remember, 60 LBCs. In between each run around the inside perimeter. People’s chair for the six.

Mosey to flag for ring of fire, which was mostly variations on merkins. Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC was supposed to Q The Anvil 2 weeks ago, but his M’s sickness had him begging out at the last minute. So, as YHC already had a workout prepared baseball watching was possible. Great to see the Nats win (sorry Glide) their first title. The PAX was awesome today, and Emoji brought the Halloween theme with a red light headlamp that lit his legs up while doing LBC’s like ET’s finger, as noted by Mudface. The SSH during Dora were challenging as the PAX ended up about 20 feet back of where they started due to a slight decline.

Merkin Challenge sheet is up for November, here’s the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-L8e9W24ygnU0suaGyKxzi1PgPqY1CBd57hLrKTZI-g/edit?fbclid=IwAR1tl11gTibRBc38OGvP7sdmN2kTOpleTQifi8oElayQWFrbxb0LBI_VTYQ&pli=1#gid=2105645288
