  • LIFO gets the backblast

4 men showed up, one slightly later than others, to hot potato a KB Q. Here is what happened.

Mudface Q: COP, inchworms, SSH, Imperial Walkers, stuff YHC missed as a LIFO

Chewy Q: Walk the bus loop, stopping at each light for 1 burpee, 10 goblet squats, 5 demon crushers, walk to next light doing around the worlds, repeat til the end of the loop.

Trout Q: Start at one side of bus loop, 10 burpees and 10 overhead presses, bear crawl to side of school, 10 donkey kicks, run back. 5 reps.

Mudface part deux Q: Bear crawl with KB five times, rotate 180 degrees, keep going same direction using crawl bear, repeat.

No Idea Q: 11’s with halos and 2 hand swings, farmer carry between, then boat/canoe called out by Chewy.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

YHC was a LIFO today, and the rest of the PAX voted that he had to do the backblast. Sometimes democracy sucks. The PAX all brought it today, especially Trout, who one day, maybe, just maybe, will do his own Q and not just be part of a hot potato. Although judging by his hot potato Q’s, that VQ will be brutal. Next week has at least 1 opening, just saying….

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • You must have watched a lot of YouTube last night….

2 resisted the fart sack and showed up to get built up. Here is how it happened.

COP: SSH, LBC’s, Merkin (just one), arm circles, DQ, Imperial Walkers. Mosey back to parking lot, time to work. Each of the following exercises was done for 2 minutes, save the last couple, which were done for 3 minutes.

Straight leg KB crunch, followed by LBC’s (10 of each, then repeat until time)

while planking, reach through to get KB from opposite side, bring over for a renegade row, repeat

Do a 1 count American Hammer with KB, then 2 count without, bring KB to other side, 2 count without, repeat

Take a break with a walk around the loop, farmer or waiter carry

    Power close row

on six, legs straight up, do crunch with KB pressing up at the top

    alternating Y-Backs

on 6, holding KB straight up, leg raises

walk holding KB up to chin, elbows level with shoulders

    demon crushers

    lawnmowers, alternating arms

Mosey to flag, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out

YHC had been feeling a little soft in the core, so time for a dedicated back and ab workout. 3 exercises in Bulkhead requested (to YHC’s relief) that perhaps a brief break would be helpful, so audibled to the loop walk. YHC thought it might be a solo Q until Bulkhead rolled in, thankfully with his phone, as YHC forgot his and Mudface fartsacked, even though he was supposed to bring his magnet timer. Of course YHC wasn’t going to let that go without a comment! Great effort by Bulkhead, mumblechatter focused on kids in school and favorite action stars (Schwarzenegger and The Rock). Bulkhead also said the title of this backblast after looking at the list of exercises. Yes, I did, and some of these people with YouTube channels are pretty strange.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • I think I’m the Q

3 men and YHC showed up for a promised workout, and instead got this:

COP–SSH, merkins, helicopters, DQ, LBC’s. Pick up KB and mosey to track at the back of school. First up, find a partner for catch me if you can, one partner runs the track, the other lunges doing figure 8’s, when they meet, switch off, keep going until the lunger finishes one lap. Switch over to four corners (of an oval), walking doing around the worlds between stops: 20 goblet squats, 15 halos, 20 clean and press, 15 American hammers.

Mosey to front of school, which is where this Q went off the rails a bit. Go around this loop, escalator style: 20 merkins, 25 overhead presses, 30 sit up presses and 35 squats. Mosey to flag.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC took the Q late yesterday, forgot he had, remembered at 10:30 last night, created the workout half asleep, and it really showed. Mudface had a lot of justifiable fun with everything, from YHC not realizing the back of school has NO light by which to read a winkie to having a workout full of four corners, but no corners in sight. YHC apologizes and will try to do better next time. Great to work out with the PAX, who crushed it.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Time to figure out how to get up

4 men and 1 2.0 sauntered out to grip and rip some iron, but slowly….

Mosey to front of school for COP: SSH, merkins, arm circles, DQ, helicopters and more arm circles (reverso), head back to pick up the KB and get to work.

AMRAP for 10 minutes: Five reps each of the following exercises, done until time runs out: 1 leg snatch, 2 count; sit-ups to toe tap (with KB); deep squat and bring KB up to chin. 5 reps of each is one set. Count out your sets, subtract from 15, do that many Turkish get-ups, in this case a total of ten, five each side, being mindful of form.

AMRAP for 10 minutes: five reps each of: halos (5 each direction); sling shot (5 each direction); deep lunge, 5 each leg.

Timer went off at 6:15, mosey to flag, numberama, namerama, Chewy took us out.

YHC was finally able to switch back to the good ole 35 pound KB after accidentally picking up Corned Beef’s 25 pounder a couple of weeks back, and it was great to get back to MANNdate after fartsacking through last week’s workout. AMRAP is always tough, but has nothing on Turkish get-ups, which Trout was introduced to today. Nothing but warm fuzzies YHC is sure. FYI, Mudface took the Q for YHC due to forgetfulness, with the caveat that YHC would do the BB. Deal! Way to push through men!

Announcements: Keep all of those doing the weekend runs in mind, and best of luck to them. Mudface put something on FB messenger about the Iron Pax challenge, make sure you sign up. Please keep Helix’s family in your prayers.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing…

  • Party of two? Your AO is ready.

2 Davillians forsook the fartsack and pushed through another Friday workout.

Mosey to rear of church for COP: SSH, arm circles, Imperial Walkers and DQ.

Mosey to field for start of history lesson. On this day in 1173, construction began on the leaning tower of Pisa. It took 200 years to finish (poorly), so we did 50 each of shoulder taps, reverse crunches, blades of steel and SSH.

Stay in the field area, because on this date in 1854, Walden, by Henry David Thoreau, was first published, an account of his time living simply for 2 years, 2 months and 2 days in the woods. So, YHC added 18 and 54 together, split it four ways… do 18 each of merkins, heels to heaven, low slow squats and calf raises, running into the woods between each to touch a tree.

Mosey to parking lot for next history bit: in 1910 the electric washing machine was patented, signaling the end of cleaning clothes using a washboard. In remembrance of the trusty washboard, we worked to develop our own: 75 American hammers, 75 LBC’s and 50 starfish crunches.

For the last history lesson, mosey back to field. On August 9th, 1936, Jesse Owens was part of the gold medal winning and world record setting 4 x 100 relay team at the Berlin Olympics, winning his fourth gold medal of the games. Commemorating this, PAX wheelbarrowed across the field and then sprinted back, then switched it up and repeated.

Mosey back to flag, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

YHC showed up at 5:26 to no cars in the parking lot, but a Trout was there, having run over from his house in Ashcreek. After a few minutes and no one else rolling in, we rolled out. YHC tried a couple of new to him exercises, and will bring back only 1 of the 2. Both were very difficult, but starfish crunches killed YHC’s back (so modified to 50 reps) while blades of steel was just really hard–look it up, seems easy, but it is not, especially at 50 reps. It was great to get a chance to know Trout a little better this morning, really glad he’s part of the Daville family.

In the words of Richard Nixon, who resigned the Presidency on this day in 1974, “I’m not a crook!”, but I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Q has the dropsies

Seven strong showed up to lift some iron, one forgot his iron, but all crushed the workout. Here is what YHC remembers.

Run the bus loop, mosey to front of school for COP: SSH, arm circles, LBC’s, DQ, and helicopters.

Pick up your KB, time for some work.

4 Corners: walk to first corner of bus loop, doing slingshots on the way, 10 demon crushers, lunge to next corner, 10 Figure 8’s, walk doing slingshots, 10 2 count American hammers, lunge to start, 10 lawnmowers (10 each arm). Repeat whole thing 3 times, increasing reps by 10 and ending with 40.

Mosey to flag (virtual as YHC forgot it) for 1 minute of halos.

Numberama, namerama, Chewy took us out.

    NMS

YHC signed up at the last minute to Q this one, and the result showed. While the workout was solid, it lacked creativity, for which YHC apologizes. Good to see Wojo, who led the PAX with Corned Beef right behind today. Kudos to Trout, who despite forgetting his brand new KB at home, modified the workout and crushed it. Props to Yardsale for pushing through despite feeling under the weather, and for recovering after almost tripping over the curb while running backwards. Last, YHC kept Yardsale and Mudface on their toes by losing grasp of YHC’s KB a grand total of 8 times. Thankfully the KB is on loan from Helix….

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Feels like spring

7 morning warriors got an early start to their week in the balmy morning of Tomato Run.

Trout, The Carpenter, Sludge, Circle K and 7-Eleven put in 5 miles through Honey Meadows, etc. and YHC and Mudface put in 3. Good to see everyone this morning, nice to have more numbers at TR.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • World Domination

9 Davillians and one sojourner showed up to assist YHC in closing out his fifth Q of the week. Spoiler alert, there was a theme!

Mosey to slightly different part of the parking lot for COP: SSH, LBC, Merkin, Freddy Mercury’s, arm circles, DQ. Mosey to field for 4 corners: run to first corner, 40 LBC’s, bear crawl to second corner, 40 SSH, run to third corner, 40 Freddy Mercury’s, bear crawl to start, 40 low, slow squats.

Adjourn to picnic area and count to 25! Skullcrushers (25 each leg), derkins, dips and calf raises, plank for the six. Mosey back to parking lot, bear crawl length of lot, stopping every 3 spaces to do 20 each of the following: HRM, crabcakes, flutter kicks, heels to heaven, diamond merkins, and toe taps, one exercise per stop, ending with toe taps.

Mosey to flag for 7 minutes of Mary, exercises included boat canoes, tempo merkins, SSH, reverse crunches and LBC’s. Numberama, namerama, Hustler took us out.

    NMS

YHC has been a fan of women’s soccer for about 20 years, ever since living in Chapel Hill, NC and attending UNC games, and have continued to watch World Cups and Olympics, where the US women have dominated. The 4 corners were representative of the 4 World Cup and 4 Olympic championships they’ve won, starting in 1991. In that first World Cup, they scored 25 goals, hence the picnic shelter number. Lastly, since the beginning of 2018, they have scored 103 goals while allowing 17, totaling 120, which is what the last exercises totaled.

It was great to have Hustler back with the PAX again after a leg injury slowed him down for a bit, and we appreciate Doozy coming all the way to The Creek! The PAX crushed the workout. YHC is proud of having done 5 Q’s this week, and will do it again, just not very soon…

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Luck of the draw

Eight men shook off the fartsack and fought through the humidity to help YHC with his first Anvil Q.

Mosey to area by flagpoles for COP: SSH, merkins, arm circles, LBC’s. Mosey to inner courtyard, where we would stay for the rest of the time. Pull out the cards, time for some fun. PAX took turns selecting cards, first set of exercises was ranger merkins, mountain climbers and alternating side squats, do 5, 10, 15, 20 LBC’s, then 10, 20, 30 and 40 LBC’s. Repeat this sequence with squat thrusts, oblique crunches, and backward lunges, then standing lunge, Helix squat and monkey humpers, wrapping up with merkins of the Chuck Norris, diamond and regular varieties.

YHC then drew 6 more cards, and PAX did 30 of each: Freddie Mercury’s, Smurf Jacks, calf raises, jump squats and backward run, then finishing up with holding low plank for 60 seconds. Mosey back to flag, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

Day 4 of Q week for YHC had me out of ideas and tired from staying up late for my 2.0’s swim meet (though Corned Beef and Marco Polo were there as well, and they crushed the workout). Days like this are why YHC bought the workout deck! It can be very cruel, as 3 types of merkins in a row was rough, as were monkey humpers after lunges and Helix squats. The PAX did a great job, and Trout showed he knows how to bring it and embrace the pain–great effort! Wrapping up the week at The Creek tomorrow, hope to see many of you out there!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Hump Day!

12 men including 1 FNG showed up to MANNdate to pick up grass and let iron sharpen iron.

Mosey to front of school for COP: SSH, merkin, arm circles, LBC’s, Imperial Walkers, DQ. Mosey to pick up loop for Dora, 1st partner walks the loop with KB, second starts working on 50 halos, 100 demon crushers, and 150 lawnmowers.

Mosey to back of school, find a picnic table. Again partner up, one runs to playground and back while other does step ups and then swings, when second partner returns, switch roles, second partner does figure 8’s. Mosey to field, time to get dirty. Pick one KB per duo, place between legs, pick it up, toss over head, try not to crush other PAX members. Switch off until you reach the other side of the field. For the return loop, same motion, except slow and controlled, no throwing of KB.

Mosey back to flag, namerama, numberama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

Day 3, and YHC is tired, but still two more Q’s to go. It was great to see the SOJ folks, and a warm welcome to Trout! Hope to see you again soon! The field had just been cut, so the PAX, especially YHC, managed to get covered in clippings. Way to crush the workout!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.
