  • 2 of 5, and a VQ

14 Davillians and one visitor from Raleigh showed up to YHC’s VQ at DaVille, my second of five this week. Our story is told in what follows, and yes, I’m WAY overselling it.

Mosey to grass behind school for COP: SSH, DQ, arm circles, LBC’s, merkins, short mosey to brick wall of school for the first exercise. PAX held balls to the wall while PAX at end of line bear crawled through, all did this once.

Mosey to next building, do 1 donkey kick, run to exercise area, find a piece of equipment and do 5 derkins, run back and do 2 donkey kicks, repeat until you get to 10 donkey kicks. Mosey to basketball court, lunge to each goal and then the opposite midpoint, running back to start, each time doing 10 more LBC’s, starting with 10 at the beginning, ending with 60. Mosey to sidewalk by soccer field, find a wooden post, do 10 diamond merkins on the post, 20 heels to heaven, 10 more diamond merkins, 20 more heels to heaven.

Mosey back to flag, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC does not usually go to DaVille, as the amount of running required is anathema to YHC. YHC may have to start going more often, as even with the running this is a great AO–there were 2 more exercises on the list for today, so another Q will be necessary. Thanks to Mudface for his help and suggestions on crafting this one, and the balls to the wall exercise was thieved from him. The PAX crushed it today, especially Phonics, who led every exercise, to the point Bulkhead just said “I just do what he does.” It was great to meet Gravy, you are welcome back anytime!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Sweating with the oldies

7 men and one 2.0 kicked off their week the best possible way at Tomato Run. YHC and Mudface ran/walked our way to 3 miles, while the rest of the PAX put in a 5 mile run. Due to the humidity we all looked like we ran 10.

    NMS

Today was the first of 5 straight Q’s for YHC, and part of YHC’s run was spent scoping out locations/ideas for tomorrow at DaVille. Lab Rat was smart and ditched his shirt prior to the run, but then again he kept his headlamp on even though it was light outside, so the decisions evened out (I kid, I kid). There were at least 2 of the PAX who earned respect, and 2-3 more who are on the cusp, hence the title of the backblast.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • It’s short, but at least it’s late!

3 iron mongers posted to MANNdate to try new things. Here is what YHC remembers of the hot potato Q.

COP SSH, arm circles, Freddie Mercuries, DQ

Mosey to back of school by picnic tables: triple check, run to playground and back, while other 2 partners do halos or step ups with KB onto the picnic tables.

Next, line up in peoples chair against the brick wall, using 35 LB KB, between your legs, passing to next PAX in line, back and forth about 15 times.

Mosey to track for 4 stopping points (geometrically unable to say 4 corners): farmer carry long sides, lunge short ones, stopping for 25 each of goblet squats, sit up press, demon crushers (modified) and something else. Mosey back to front of school and flag.

Numberama, namerama, Chewy took us out.

    NMS

YHC got back very late from an away swim meet, was pondering skipping MANNdate, and decided to check the Q sheet. Oops, no skipping! Arrived early-ish to figure something out, figured out 2 things, and since Mudface and Chewy were the only other ones to come (rest of regulars partook in the WDog Ghost Flag takeover), went with a hot potato and did some experimenting. The peoples chair exercise (via Mudface) will be coming back, and with more people will create some pain for sure.

To cap off this fantastic Q effort, YHC was sure he had done the backblast, only to log on today, and being unable to find it, penned it very late.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Tossing around some Deadweight

6 hardy souls came out to the second iteration of The Anvil. Here is how we toiled.

Mosey to blacktop for COP: SSH, DQ, arm circles, some other stuff. Mosey to track, trying to EH someone along the way, without success (for now). What a welcome sight, a 75 pound sandbag with handles!

Each PAX took a turn throwing Deadweight (the sandbag) forward, then do a lap around the track, once you catch up, toss it again. Once the PAX had made it a quarter way around, switch to sandbag burpees with a throw at the end, another lap, rinse, repeat until another quarter lap was done. Switch to: throw it forward, next PAX bear crawls to where it lands, they throw it forward, repeat until the last of the track is complete. Mosey to field for Ring of Fire, explosive merkins with handclaps.

Mosey to the flag, numberama, namerama, Chewy took us out.

    NMS

Numbers were down this week, but those who showed up got to meet Deadweight, Mudface’s sandbag friend. Mudface tried his best to EH the guy doing laps, he seemed interested (hey, he was already up and here) but didn’t stick around this time. The PAX put in some miles this morning, a little over 3 in total. Not a typical Mudface Q, but we’ve just scratched the surface of The Anvil. YHC and Chewy are familiar with Deadweight, unfortunately, and keep hoping he disappears, but he has now shown up at every Mechanicsville AO. He might go on tour this summer…

Let’s get more numbers here next week, need to keep this AO going!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Getting by with a little help from my friends

An odd 9 including one traveler descended upon The Creek to cap off the work week. Mosey halfway around the church to COP, SSH, Imperial walkers/hillbillies, Freddie Mercuries, merkins.

Mosey to field for wheelbarrow fun–partner up, wheelbarrow half of half of the field (had to be there), 20 LBC’s, switch partners, same distance, 20 mountain climbers, repeat, HRM’s, wheelbarrow to end of field, 20 heels to heaven, sprint back to start, 20 booyah merkins.

Mosey to pavilion for lazy Dora, one partner holds low plank while the other works on 100 2-count American hammers, 200 high knees, and 300 shoulder taps, switching off as needed.

Mosey to tower, lunge to first island, 20 jump squats, lunge to basketball goals, 40 reverse crunches, run back to tower, hold superman for 60 seconds. Do four corners, running in between, perform 10 merkins, 20 flutter kicks, 30 squats and 40 SSH. Mosey to flag for boat/canoes led by Chewy.

Numberama, namerama, YHC led us out.

    NMS

YHC did not feel well last night, chalked it up to being tired, didn’t feel well this morning, chalked it up to just waking up, and 15 minutes into the workout realized YHC was not well, probably having caught one of the bugs his 2.0’s had brought home recently. The PAX helped tremendously this morning, as only the first 2 parts were planned, and the rest made up on the fly with lots of help. Another example of how great F3 is, we always help each other out in our struggles–no matter how minor, we pick each other up every single time. It was great to see Upchuck this morning, and his teaming up with Emoji resulted in the first exercise being completed in record time. Chewy served as his own team during the lazy Dora, and still only finished a few seconds behind the rest of the PAX. Great effort!

Announcements: summer tour has started, let’s all try to visit at least a couple of new AO’s, and Puppy Pile is tomorrow after Dogpile. Also, Upchuck provided a great reminder that Breaking Bread has spots open for the summer, and is a wonderful experience.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • The Anvil: Day 1

19 F3 Warriors broke themselves upon The Anvil, baptizing it with their sweat, and came out stronger and tougher.

Mudface created this AO, and led the first day. Mosey from the parking lot to the playground blacktop for COP: SSH, DQ, LBC’s and Merkins. Mosey to the field by the track for Belching: PAX begins on their bellies, when the Q yells “GO” the PAX runs 10 strides, drops and performs 10 HRM’s. PAX then low crawl back or forward to line up with the Q until a straight line is achieved. Repeat until the PAX reaches the end of the field. Run up the hill (foreshadowing) until reaching the back corner of the AO, than cross to opposite back corner, stopping to touch every tree and perform 10 single count crab cakes each time.

Run down hill to back of school to start Burp Back Mountain: partner up, one partner does Bernie Sanders back up the hill while his compatriot does burpees, switch out when he returns, continue until 100 burpees are completed.

Wall tunnel time: PAX line up in people’s chair against wall, starting at far end each PAX bear crawls through the tunnel, repeat again with PAX pressing only shoulders against the wall.

Mosey to rock pit by original parking lot, grab a rock and do boat/canoe’s to Chewy’s count. Mosey back to flags, numberama, namerama, Chewy took us out.

    NMS

What a great showing to open The Anvil. This AO is huge, and Mudface showed the PAX what could be done, and how many possibilities there are to sharpen ourselves. YHC counted 6 different playgrounds, along with a track, and inside the courtyard there are more benches, etc. The mumblechatter started right away, as some PAX thought the Q took some liberties with his cadence during arm circles, but hey, he’s the Q, he leads his way. Mudface had fun getting the PAX to false start during Belching, and the PAX responded by getting very creative with how many strides made up ’10.’ This and running to each tree was a good warmup to the Burp Back Mountain, and YHC’s legs were toast after running the hill and burpees.

The wall work served as a bit of a rest and mumblechatter centered on the size of the crawlers and how much ‘natural gas’ could Rounders unleash on you from that vantage point. It was great to have visitors help Davillians break in our new AO, thanks for coming Offshore, EF Hutton, Byproduct and Scrum. Hopefully our flags and numbers were noticed by many driving by and we’ll start to get members from the 111. Great job of Q’ing by Mudface!

Announcement: Puppy Pile this Saturday after Dogpile.

As usual, both Mudface and YHC have No Idea what we’re doing.

  • Working our way to the top

12 sweat soaked warriors, including 2 sojourners, ignored the humidity to hoist iron and kick off our day the right way.
Mosey to front of school for COP: SSH, DQ, LBC’s, Alabama prom dates, arm circles, mosey back to bus loop for Escalator, KB style.
Lunge to first corner, 10 squats, 20 halos, 30 demon crushers, 40 lawnmowers, bear crawl with KB to next corner, all exercises go up by 10, lunge to 3 rd corner, again increase by 10, bear crawl to starting point, finish with 40 squats, 50 halos, 60 demon crushers and 70 lawnmowers.
Mosey to flag, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC did not remember how long the Escalator takes, as numerous other things were planned and despite very hard work, YHC doesn’t think any of the PAX finished, although Emoji and Spit were working on the last set of lawnmowers at 6:15. YHC loves history, and while figuring out what to do with this Q, looked up what happened on May 29th throughout the years. Turns out in 1900, the Otis Elevator Company registered the first escalator on this date. Problem solved! Also on this date the pop-up toaster was patented, and Sir Edmund Hilary became the first person to summit Mt. Everest. There was little mumblechatter for a while, then the PAX settled in and the chatter started. Not sure what it was about as YHC was too busy wiping sweat off and wondering why this seemed like a good idea last night. Really glad to have the visit from Oyster and Offshore, come back anytime, fellas, it was great to have you. Also happy to have Maytag back amongst the PAX, it was really good to see you and hope F3 can continue to be a part of you working your way back to better health.
Announcements: the new AO, The Anvil, starts tomorrow at Mechanicsville Elementary, see the pre-blast for details. Try to park in the first parking lot, which is the turn in before the Mechanicsville Elementary school sign. Mudface has the Q. Puppy Pile this Saturday, 7:00.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Walking into the light

YHC and Mudface showed up late for TR.  Rucked 3 miles discussing possibilities of the new AO, The Anvil, which promises a lot of fun pain.  YHC noticed that workouts are now starting in the light, which is a welcome change.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • It’s in the cards

9 men arrived at The Creek on a beautiful Friday morning to play some cards. The game is detailed below.

Mosey to field past shelter, COP: 20 SSH, 20 buttkickers, 15 Imperial walkers, 10/5 arm circles, 25 diamond merkins, 44 heels to heaven.

Mosey to picnic shelter for triple check: first partner runs to road and back, other 2 do WW2 situps and LBC’s. Move to parking lot by bell tower for suicides, keeping same partners: first partner does suicides and 5 burpees when done, other two do ranger merkins and hold plank.

Move over to curb for 25 calf raises, 25 dips, come back for high flutter kicks x 25, HRM x 25, monkey humpers x 25.

Mosey back to flag, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

This was YHC’s first attempt using the F3 card deck, and it turned out pretty well. The cards favored a lot of ab work this morning, and the PAX (especially Rounders) were eager participants in picking a card. Chewy twice tried to trick the Q into a different exercise–YHC thinks he needs to Q again to scratch that itch of telling the PAX what to do–same for Rounders, sign up and lead again! It was great for YHC to meet Corned Beef, who attacked the workout with vigor, and Gigawatt left the PAX in his dust on the runs. We did 44 heels to heaven during COP because Rounders heard 45 the first time, the PAX did 25 and he was still going, so we caught up.

Announcements: new AO, The Anvil, debuts 5/30 at Mechanicsville Elementary, the pre-Blast is already up. Spit is Q’ing at Dogpile tomorrow, YHC can’t make it but show up if you can. Also, Lab Rat and his M are still seeking donations for their non-profit, see the MANNdate backblast for details.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Rookie stuff, there

8 soldiers of the gloom tried some new things, fixed some, and persevered through it all

COP  SSH, LBC’s, DQ, arm circles, Imperial walkers, pick up your KB, mosey around the school to a back wall..

Face six inches from the wall, Helix squats with KB x 10, 5 donkey kicks, squats x 20, 10 donkey kicks.  Mosey over to the playground equipment, 10 leg lifts with your foot through the KB loop, 5 each leg, repeat, mosey to the track.

Partner up, first PAX farmer carry around the track while their partner death crawls until they are caught, then switch up, continue until loop is complete.  Keeping same partners, using only 1 KB, on your six, pick up KB from between your feet, place on ground behind you, partner repeats same motion until end of field is reached, turn around and come back, adding 5 KB presses while on your six.

Mosey to flag, 3 minutes of Chewy led boat-canoes with KB, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC wanted to try a few new things today, some worked out (death crawl and situp press relay), but still need modification, and others (leg lifts) did not, as YHC envisioned the PAX doing pull-ups with leg lifts. Still, it’s always better to be creative than boring, and with a couple of modifications the two that worked will be coming back. It was great to have Spit back in the PAX at MANNdate after several months of him leading high schoolers in a Bible study on Wednesday mornings, and great to see Glide as well, YHC hopes you become a regular! Chewy enjoyed leading the boat-canoes, as usual–time for you to Q a whole workout again!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.
