Author: No Idea

  • This is a g-g-g-good idea?

5 PAX including 2 hardy 2.0’s, made it out for a rucking good time at TR.

YHC and Mudface, trailed closely by Pinky, Fife and Red, put in a little over 3 miles on a cold and very windy morning. Nice job guys!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Kettlebell sing-a-long

11 men, including a man-like 2.0, showed up to pick a workout from the Mudface Menu. Here’s what happened…

    COP SSH x 10, Merkins x 10, Arm circles 10 and 5, reverso.

Mosey back to bus loop, time for AMRAP fun. 10 minutes of: snatch, 5 each arm, one leg dead lift, 5 each leg, sit up touch KB to toes x 5, jump squats with KB x 5. Count up how many sets of this you did, subtract that from 20, perform that number of Turkish get ups.

Graduation walk for Mudface, Chewy, Bulkhead and No Idea, waiter carry around the loop while the PAX hums Pomp and Circumstance. 5 minute AMRAP: overhead press x 5, lawnmowers, 5 each arm, slingshots, 5 each direction, curb calf raises x 5. Count up the sets, subtract that from 10 and get those TGU done!

Circle up, numberama, namerama, Chewy took us out.

NMS- Mudface again asked the PAX to pick workout A or B-assuming he actually had different workouts planned, the PAX chose one of them, YHC doesn’t remember which. At some point, Mudface quoted a line from Monty Python’s Life of Brian, “Always look on the bright side of life.” The PAX responded by doing the whistling part, and Mudface kept the song going for quite a long time. YHC has included a clip of the relevant part above. The mumble chatter was brisk early on but the AMRAP quickly cured that. The Turkish getups were killers, and kudos to Mudface and Rounders for making sure everyone followed proper form.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Teaching Helix proper form

4 men awoke to a winter wonderland and decided it was a good morning to hoist some iron. In between freezing we did this:

COP- SSH, LBC’s, Hand release merkins, arm circles, SSH again, Don Quixotes

Mosey to bus loop, time for Dora 1-2-3. 2 teams of 2, 1 partner farmer carry around the loop, the other works on 100 halos, 200 good mornings, 300 lawnmowers. Stretch for the last 5-10 minutes.

COT, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

There are several new PAX at MANNdate these days, so YHC thought it would be helpful to have a day where we slowed things down and concentrated on form. Unfortunately our numbers were low this morning, so this type of workout will be revisited soon. The snow turned into freezing rain at some point, and PAX rotated their complaints between having frozen buttocks and/or testicles that were retreating back up into the body–sitting in mostly frozen water will do that, evidently. YHC is assuming Helix shored up his sloppy form today, but if not let’s all make sure to lend him a helping hand next time.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Is there anybody out there?

YHC wasn’t sure he was going to make it out this morning, due to feeling less than optimal, but escaped the fartsack and was a LIFO to his own Q. Lucky for YHC, only one other person showed up, 8 Ball, and YHC was able to catch up to him during one of the loops in our route. Lots of good conversation–it’s always great to have a chance to get to know our F3 brothers just a little bit more. YHC and 8 Ball rucked a little over 3 miles in a steady rain.

As usual I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Time to act like a kid

11 warriors ready for the weekend, including 1 2.0 and one FNG, descended on The Creek for fun and games.

COP SSH, invisible jump ropes, Don Quixotes, merkins, LBC’s and arm circles

Mosey to end of parking lot by basketball goals, time to race! Split into 2 teams, relay race from light pole to light pole, doing the following: first split, bear crawls, tag your teammate, they crab walk, tag up, on to broad jumping, tag, sprints, last tag, back to bear crawl. Form up at opposite end, repeat except switch up so all PAX do a different leg than before.

Mosey to grass by picnic shelter for a good old fashioned tug of war, same teams. Terrain was important here, as the team nearer the shelter lost each time, it was just a little bit slicker in that spot.

Run back out to the parking lot where YHC has drawn up three 4-square courts. If you’re not familiar with this playground game, groups of 4 (or 2 of 4 and 1 of 3 in this case) each standing in their own small square, which make up the larger square, swat a ball into a opposite square only letting it bounce once–if you miss the square or can’t hit it back, you’re out. In F3 version, if you get knocked out you do LBC’s, merkins, or Helix squats, until only one player is left, then start over.

After about 10 minutes of this, split back into original teams, time for capture the shovel flag! Played 3 times, with the team led by Carpenter and Spit winning each time.

Mosey to the first flag, 5 minutes of Mary.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC’s job has been a bit busier lately, so as the Q it was time to have some fun while getting in a bit of a workout. The tone was set during COP when SSH had several near collisions and Mudface/Spit got in some quality couple time, followed by multiple PAX contributing the Fourth F. The PAX blasted through the relay races, and that is definitely the fastest YHC has ever bear crawled or crab walked! Four square was a lot of fun and pretty competitive, and YHC learned Spit has quick hands! Capture the shovel flag was a great way to wrap up the fun, and The Carpenter displayed some good wheels for an old guy! 🙂 It was a great way to head into the weekend! Last but not least, welcome to Mailsack, DaVille’s first USPS man! Great effort there, hope to see you back very soon.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Enter Sandman

12 men showed up for Mudface’s VQ at Daville, in which he expunged high school demons.  Here’s how it went down.

Mosey to basketball court for COP: arm circles, 10 small, 5 big, reverse   helicopters x 10     hamstring stretches, forward and back

Mosey to grass next to bball court, enter the 50-70 pound sandbag (in that range).  With sandbag, one PAX throws it forward at a time, rest of PAX bearcrawl after taking turns until all have had their chance.  Do same with underhand throw and side throw, then line up single file and pull the bag through your legs.  Plank up, shoulder to shoulder, pull the sandbag through the tunnel, then back again.  All PAX save one stay in plank and do merkins, while each PAX in turn does a burpee, then picks up bag and throws it over their head.  Repeat this adding Helix squat, lunge both legs, then curl, then rack, and throw it over your back, while rest of PAX does LBC’s and then switches to Helix squat.  One last set with rows added, then circle up tossing the bag from one PAX to the next.

Mosey back to flag, with first Mudface, then Bulkhead, and finally Spike carrying the bag, stopping intermittently for burpees.

Numberama, namerama, The Carpenter took us out.

    NMS

Mudface named the sandbag Eric, because (his story) this was his lab partner’s name in high school “and I carried him the whole year” so it is apropos to do so again.  The initial exercises left too much time on the PAX’s hands, so LBC’s, merkins and squats were added.  Yea!  The Carpenter was very enthusiastic tossing around Eric, perhaps working out some memories of his own.  It’s a safe space, it’s good to share….  Mumblechatter included multiple theories about what really happened with Eric, whom Mudface evidently still talks with from time to time.  There were some who posited that it was actually Eric, minced down to size, in the bag.

By the end, he had taken a toll on all of the PAX, and YHC’s back will be remembering this workout for a while.  Eric was even gifted an official F3 name–welcome to Deadweight!  A great Daville VQ from Mudface, and YHC is willing to bet Deadweight will be seen sooner rather than later.

As usual, Mudface has no idea what he’s doing.

  • More exciting than the Super Bowl

Mudface and YHC rucked/walked for 3 miles this morning, not much else happened.  Still more exciting than the Super Bowl.  Drew Brees and Co. would have scored at least 21 last night!  Who Dat!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Am I doing this right? It hurts

Five men scrambled out of their fartsacks and MANNed up for a KB workout.   It was a brisk 25 degrees in 70 and sunny RVA!  Almost 6 men, as Rounder’s Corporal Punishment (55 lb. KB) weighs more than either of YHC’s 2.0’s.

COP- SSH, arm circles, mountain climbers, merkins, helicopters, LBC’s

Time to count: starting with 5, then 10, then 15, back to 10 and then 5 again, each of the following exercises–Standing crunch, halos, modified windmill, and tricep press.

Triple check, modified to 1 person runs, while the rest of PAX splits demon crushers and renegade rows twisting into side plank, everybody ran twice.

Time to copy off Helix and stretch it out for 5 minutes.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out

    NMS

Fairly cold this  morning, although tomorrow looks much worse, stay warm in the gloom, brothers!  Not a lot of chatter today, although Mudface did remark at some point “when does the real workout start?”  Of course when he was the first to finish the initial sets, he declined YHC’s suggestion for an additional set, so perhaps it did have an impact.  Thanks for pushing through the new exercises–it’s always good to try something different.  The title of the BB comes from Mudface consulting Helix on form (always wise) because something didn’t feel right.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing

  • I would like door number…

8 men braved the not quite as cold pre-dawn to swing around some iron and shape up their spleens.  This is what happened.

COP  SSH    merkins    arm circles      maybe something else??

Mosey to bus loop, time for fun!  AMRAP (As many rounds as possible, DaVille version), for 10 minutes, rotate between single leg deadlift snatch, sit-up straight arm toe taps, and some squat variance, 5 reps of each per round.  One minute break (to run the loop), second 10 minute AMRAP, halos both ways, sling shots both ways, lunges, again 5 reps of each per round.  One minute break while doing some burpees.  3rd 10 minute AMRAP, lawnmowers, 5 each arm, superman bananas, 5 each direction, calf raises on the curb.

Mosey to flag, plank up, only KB needed was Rounder’s 55 pounder!  While planking, reach through and pass the KB around, one complete circle each way.

Numberama, namerama, Emoji took us out.

    NMS

Mudface hates writing backblasts but loves leading workouts, and YHC likes writing backblasts, so we have teamed up–YHC will sign Mudface up for a Q, any Q, and YHC will attend and write the backblast.  This is the inaugural effort, let’s see how it goes.

There was an inordinate amount of mumblechatter focused on whether this was a good spleen workout, in the end consensus is it did a great job.  No need for handwarmers this morning, it was a balmy 30 when we kicked things off.  Some of the exercises needed explanation, and the superman bananas (on stomach, arms stretched out grasping KB, lift KB up a few inches, maintain this form while rolling to side, then roll back, put down KB, that’s one) roughed up the PAX.  Mudface, as is his custom, asked the PAX to pick a workout, as he had 2 prepared, and we chose option A, which thankfully did not contain Turkish getups.  Bulkhead worked out a little closer than last week, which Helix attributed to him (Helix) having put on deodorant today, perhaps next week he’ll actually join the group!

Only announcement is that Rounders is hosting a poker game this weekend, get in touch with him for details.

As usual, Mudface and I have No Idea what we’re doing.

  • Too tired for a title

8 hardy souls, including  a couple of 2.0’s, braved freezing temps to let iron sharpen iron.

COP, long form: SSH  Merkins   Smurf jacks  arm circles   helicopters   LBC’s  split jacks   Don Quixotes   Imperial walkers   mountain climbers   Freddie Mercurys

Mosey back to your bell for Triple, no wait, math doesn’t work, quadruple check!  2 groups of 4, 1 partner runs the bus loop, the other three split halos, lawnmowers and goblet squats, lots of fun!

Time for: don’t drop the soap!  Hold KB at arm’s length for as long as you can, when you give up, drop it and lunge to second light pole and back.  3 rounds of enjoyment

Form check time: 30 each of 2 handed swings, good mornings, tricep press and lunges.  Slow them all down, pay close attention to form, exercises down at about half speed.

Mosey to SF, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

The Carpenter had the Q, got sick, YHC took the Q and the PAX crushed the workout. Thanks to Mudface for the modification suggestion on the triple check as YHC’s brain was frozen for a second or two (feet and fingers were numb for much of the workout).  Helix knew it was cold, even wore a hat.  Chewy and Fife did well with the cold, they complained way less than the PAX, including YHC, while Emoji just crushed the workout all toasty with handwarmers.  Nice job gents!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.
