  • Ringing in the New Year with bells

9 DaVillians started off the post holiday year the best possible way, hoisting iron and strengthening fellowship.

We did the Murph!  Ran a mile around the perimeter of the school, then:

    100 Goblet Squats     200 Lawnmowers   300 Halos

    Run another mile.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC was having great difficulty thinking of exercises last night, so texted Mudface, who responded with a barrage of possibilities.  One of those was lumberjacks, and YHC thought “200 Lumberjacks, sounds great!”  Yeah, not so much, those were quickly modified to lawnmowers.  There was a lot of mumblechatter this morning, which only intensified when YHC gave Mudface a hard time for complaining (he wasn’t), but Mudface took this as a challenge, and proceeded to demonstrate to the PAX how it would sound if he did complain–10 minutes later we were all well educated!  J/k, this led to a lot of back and forth, including memories of Mudface’s first Q involving broken cinderblocks, and Rounders recalling when he used to ruck around the neighborhood with a 30 pound pack, back before it was cool….  The PAX crushed the Murph, leaving YHC in their dust.  Well done, gents!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • A rucking bloodhound

4 men clambered out of the fartsack and rucked/walked on the final day of 2018.  Spit and Pinky put in 3 miles at a 17:30 pace, Mudface and No Idea meandered around for about the same, not sure of the pace.  And then there’s this…

Well, you see, this is how the gang got on the case–there was an old man, Lab Rat I think is his name, who kept telling everyone “there’s a sand volleyball court around here, I promise!”  People in these parts normally don’t pay much attention to his ramblings, as some think he’s a bit touched in the head, if you know what I mean, but the gang and YHC thought “maybe he’s on to something this time, let’s try to find it.”  Mudface and YHC walked all over tarnation 2 weeks ago looking for it, with nary a clue as to it’s location after our odyssey.  Today Spit and Pinky joined the search, and faster than the Carpenter can produce the 4th F, Spit, part bloodhound perhaps, found not just one, but two courts right near the baseball field.  The courts are rather disappointing, covered in as much grass as sand, but now we know where they are.  Perhaps part of DaVille soon?  Time will tell.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • History lesson + FNG + misplaced winkie = mumblechatter

4 regulars and 1 FNG came out in the cold to work off the cookies and eggnog.  Here’s how we rolled.

    COP SSH 15, LBC’s 11, Arm circles 15, merkins 11, Imperial walkers 15, DQ 11

    Exercises

Start with 18 lawnmowers and 11 demon/skull crushers, then 17/12 and so on until you end up at 11 lawnmowers and 18 d/s crushers.

Flutter kick presses while “I Saw Her Standing There” by the Beatles played (about 3 minutes).

    33 renegade rows, 2 count

Listen to “Gonna Fly Now” from Rocky while ‘punching’ with jab and uppercuts while holding KB.

5 each of halos, good mornings and boat/canoe’s.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

So, today is 12/26, here’s the history lesson and significance of numbers:

COP: every 2 exercises add up to 26

18 and 11 is for 1811, on 12/26/1811 a fire destroyed the Richmond Theater, killing 72 people, including the sitting governor, along with former senators and representatives.

On 12/26/1963, the Beatles released 2 songs in the US, including I Saw Her Standing There, which marked the beginning of Beatlemania in the US.

Harry S Truman died on 12/26/73 – he was the 33rd president of the US.

12/26 is recognized as Boxing Day in the UK and other parts of the world, and named so because in the 19th century it was the day servants and postmen were given a Christmas box as a thank you.  Also, you know, Rocky, and it’s fun to exercise to that music.

5 reps of various exercises b/c there are 5 days days left in the year after today.

Welcome to Pinkie (formerly known as Chris Suleske), way to make it out after being EH’d by YHC and Mudface at Blue Cheese’s Christmas party.  Solid effort-the workouts don’t get easier, but you get stronger!!  Hope to see you again at The Creek this Friday.

Mudface was critical of YHC multiple times today, which isn’t unusual, perhaps Santa didn’t bring him what he wanted, but his efforts did generate a lot of great mumblechatter.  YHC was just a tad unfocused, as the winkie was somehow left behind at the house, and relying on YHC’s porous memory is a bad bet.  Still, a good workout this morning–the boxing exercises were awful, and if the ground wasn’t almost frozen it would have been severely damaged by the renegade rows.  Thanks to YHC’s M for help with the historical facts, that’s how we spent the last few minutes of Christmas!  Woo hoo!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Rucking and rolling

YHC and a PAX of one put in a little over 3 miles while maintaining the necessary pace.   Skipped the trails today, hopefully get there next time.

  • Honoring a debt

11 Davillians descended on The Creek to further our fellowship and honor those men and women who died on this day many years ago at Pearl Harbor.  This is how we toiled.

COP:  15 SSH     10 merkins   10 DQ     15 arm circles, small and big      17 LBC’s  for a total of 77 reps, as it was 77 years ago today that the Naval base at Pearl Harbor, along with Army Air Force fields (Hickam, et. al.) were attacked, drawing the U.S. into the WW2.

Mosey to bell tower for 4 corners:  Run to each corner of the church building, stopping at each for 23 reps of jump squats, boxcutters, merkins and heels to heaven.  23 reps to remember the 23 sets of brothers that died on the USS Arizona that morning.

After planking for the six, it was time for the long lunges!  Lunge to first concrete ‘island,’ do 35 LBC’s, run back.  Lunge to second island, 35 Freddie Mercurys, run back, lunge to basketball goals, 40 SSH, run back.  The total of 110 reps in recognition of the 110 minutes the sailors and soldiers fought back against the Japanese that day.

Mosey to corner of parking lot for lazyish Dora: partner up, one partner lunges and bear crawls around the area, the other partner works on 50 2 count mountain climbers, 50 split jacks, and 69 overhead hand claps while holding peoples chair.  Total reps=169, which is the number of American planes destroyed by fighters and bombers.

Parking lot tracers: Do six lines, stop for 10 reps of exercises I now forget, but included burpees as suggested by Spike.  60 reps because 1941 (19+41).  Mosey over to curb for 11’s of diamond merkins and appropriately, WW2 situps.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC works at the VA hospital, and still sees World War 2 Veterans in clinics and hallways, although less so than in the past.  Most of these men are not with us anymore, and so YHC wanted to make sure the PAX had something extra to think about today.  It did become clear that by focusing on the numbers and facts, YHC may have been slipshod with the actual exercises, so apologies to the PAX, and thanks for trying to keep me straight.  I earned my F3 name again today!  Also, note to self, don’t request exercise suggestions from Spike, as after suggesting burpees his other thought was “let’s run a mile!”  No thanks, YHC is good!  Great job by the PAX today, they crushed it so much YHC had to ad lib the 11’s to fill up the time, so there is no historical footnote for them.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • It’s time for the URPH!!

5 men showed up for another rendition of the Murph, and you know it was cold because Helix was wearing gloves!  Here’s what happened.

Run around the interior of the school property, which is right at 1 mile,  end up at bus loop, and complete:

100 snatches       200 renegade rows      300 demon crushers

No one got to running the second mile.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out

    NMS

Can’t spell Murph without Mudface, and since the fartsack claimed him this morning the title of this BB makes sense, right?  Not a lot of mumblechatter, but there was some mention of the Redskins getting a QB from the Browns, and other candidates for the backup QB position were, per the PAX, Vinny Testeverde, Ryan Leaf and Bernie Kosar.  All are probably better than Mark “Butt Fumble” Sanchez….just saying.

YHC is sore right now, and hopes the rest of the PAX is feeling it as well.  Doing a ruck workout on Tuesday and KB on Wednesday is tough!

Happy birthday to Bulkhead–way to start your day right!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Brother, meet my brothers

8 regulars and 1 FNG posted on a chilly morning to hoist some iron and kickstart the holiday vacation (for most of us).  Here’s how it went down.

COP, start by running the bus loop, then circle up for 15 each of the following: SSH, merkins, arm circles (small, big, reverso), HRM, helicopters, Imperial Walkers, HRM.

Mosey to bus loop for four corners on an oval.  Ascending 4 corners with demon crushers, figure 8’s, American Hammers with KB, and lawnmowers, sets of 10, 20, 30 and 40, walk b/t corners while doing slingshots.  Al Gore for the six.

Find a patch of grass, circle up facing outward for pass the KB.  Do this clockwise, then counterclockwise, at which point due to backups etc. all the KB’s were mixed up, time to stop.

Triple check, partner up (this confused the PAX), exercises were flutter kick presses, LBC’s with KB, final partner runs the loop.

Mosey to flag for 15 halos, 15 diamond merkins on KB, 15 swings.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC’s brother is in town for Thanksgiving, and he’s a runner, so YHC agreed to run the 10K tomorrow in exchange for said brother coming to MANNdate for a KB workout.  YHC has been talking up F3 for a while, and was excited for YHC’s biological brother (now known as Everlast) to meet my F3 brothers.  The temp was a bit chilly at 29 degrees, but Helix and Opus both opted for shorts.  Helix also went up in weight (at least for today) to 40 pounds–nice job!  Spit led the four corners throughout while being pushed by The Carpenter.  It was great to see a few more people out this morning, and especially glad to welcome Bulkhead to MANNdate!  Come again!  For those doing the challenge, that’s 60 merkins to start.

Announcements:  There is the 6 AM workout tomorrow at Mary Munford led by TYA, with coffee afterwards (bring your own mug).  YHC, Mudface and Chewy are doing the Rugged Maniac in May, would love for more F3 to join our team.

Hope you all have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

As usual I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • It’s not supposed to be this cold

2 DaVillians showed up for Tomato Run, so here’s what happened.  We ran 100 sprints, did 50 merkins in between each one, so 5000 merkins which means we won the challenge with over 10 days left….then ran 5 miles at a 4:30 pace (we were tired from all the merkins).

After all of that, we ran/walked about 3 miles.  And commented on feeling like it seemed to be 30 degrees, not 40.

You weren’t there, can’t prove YHC wrong.  🙂

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Merkins at the spa

7 fearless morning warriors kicked off their day the best possible way, in the gloom with their F3 brothers–here’s what happened.

COP, 10 each, IC, SSH, Merkins, DQ, HR Merkins, LBC’s, Merkins, Abe Vigoda, HR Merkins

Indigenous people run around the church to the picnic table area for a triple check

Abyss merkins  between picnic tables, LBC’s, last partner runs to road and back, Al Gore for the six.

Mosey to parking lot, Bermuda Triangle: 3 cones, 30 feet apart in a triangle shape, bear crawl b/t cones, stopping to do 5, then 10, then 15 merkins.  Three reps.

Find a curb for 11’s, heels to heaven and WW2 situps.

Find the flag, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

Mumble chatter was lively and varied, ranging from UVA athletics, to Spit and Opus’s favorite spa treatments, to the possibly weird (yes, I’m judging) places Emoji might put hand warmers.  All in all, a fun and taxing workout.  For those doing the challenge, that’s 130 merkins plus however many abyss merkins you did during the triple check.  Thanks for letting me lead.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Sound of silence

5 fartsack rejector’s made it out for a MANNdate on a beautiful fall morning.  This is what we did.

    COP

15 each of SSH, HRM, arm circles, LBC’s, helicopters, DQ and American hammers

Mosey to bus loop, do 10 sit up presses, run the loop, do 15 sit up presses, 10 halos, run, 20 sit up presses, 15 halos, 10 demon crushers, run, 25 sit up presses, 20 halos, 15 demon crushers, 10 KB swings, run, 30 sit up presses, 25 halos, 20 demon crushers, 15 KB swings, 10 goblet squats, run, 30 halos, 25 demon crushers, 20 KB swings, 15 goblet squats, 10 slingshots, run.  Continue to go up by 5 with runs in between, losing one exercise after you do 30 reps of it.

Mosey to flag, YHC took us out.

    NMS

There was very little mumblechatter this morning, the PAX were very focused on trying to get through this thing YHC dreamed up, kind of like a lucky horseshoe, but kind of not.  Congrats to Opus on finishing first!

Announcements: YHC, Mudface and Chewy have formed a team for the Rugged Maniac challenge on 5/4/19, if you would like to join get in touch with either of us.  The cost goes up soon, so don’t wait!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.
