White Deer has us do some regular merkins in cadence, some wide grip merkins in cadence and the has us partner up for a wheel barrow race to the steps in front of Tredegar and back to the road.

Numberama, Namearama, Announcements and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

Please pray for Helix’s daughter who has been in hospital for a week. Please reach out to him, fellas, and see if we can help in any way.

See DTH for another personalized shirt order or lab Rat for a Dogpile shirt order.

    NMS:

YHC arrived early to find the parking lot chained off until 9:30am. Not good. Parking at the lower lot under the train tracks was hit or miss. Not many spaces unless you made your own. Everyone started to gather in the normal Convergence area and at 0700, off we went to Brown’s Island. A little bit of heat and humidity greeted us on the island as well as the sprinklers. The steps on the WestRock building are always a hit, as well as the T Pott Burpee Bridge.

Thanks to DTH for leading his group and for all the Q’s that were tossed the potato. Welcome to the 4 FNG’s and we hope to see you back out soon.

What a great turnout this morning and YHC hope’s that you celebrate your freedom knowing that right up the big hill to the East of where we worked out, in a little white Church, a Virginian called out the King of England and said “Give me Liberty or Give me Death!” Everyone knows what happened after that!

Happy 243rd Birthday to the USA!

Have a wonderful Independence Day, all!

  • Everyone’s New Favorite Route (Especially Saab’s)

12 Dog Park Lovers posted for a new kind of Spider Run in the peaceful gloom this morning. YHC wanted to change things up a bit (to Saab’s liking) and decided to get off the pavement for most of the route.

    The routes are as follows:

Everyone exits campus via UR Drive, Campus Drive, Boatwright Drive to a left on Edgehill Rd to Bandy Field. 1.15 miles

Run as many laps around Bandy Field as you wish. Each lap, if you stay on the trail and don’t cut corners, equals .7 miles

Return to VSF as you came. 1.15 miles

    Total route distances:

3 Laps Around Bandy Field = 4.4 Miles

4 Laps Around Bandy Field = 5.1 Miles

5 Laps Around Bandy Field = 5.8 Miles

6 Laps Around Bandy Field = 6.5 Miles ( we just named this route the “Sippy Cup Route”) Well done, Sippy!

Numberama, Namearama, Announcements and YHC took us out!

    Announcements:

Please pray for Double Mint’s Father as he has an upcoming surgery.

Please pray for the family of the Triathlete that lost his life at Robious Landing this past weekend.

Independence Day Convergence at Tredegar at 7am!

    NMS:

Saab came in to the parking lot from his early extra credit run and saw YHC’s laptop, with a map brought up on it, on the hood of his new Chevrolet 1500 Silverado. Eyes rolled and he asked me to give him the route early so he could decipher what to do, whether to follow YHC’s directions or go off on his own. Saab obliged YHC and took on the Bandy Field route with a few sighs, head shakes and more eye rolls.

Lockjaw posted to a run that he wasn’t Q’ing! World may end today! YHC believes Lockjaw was tricked into posting because he saw YHC’s name on the Q sheet and thought YHC was going to call a new, top-secret route that only Lockjaw knows about. He even wore a special shirt for that top secret route. Sorry, Lockjaw, that route will have to wait.

YHC thought it would be a good idea to keep everyone within eyesight of each other since most Spider Runs and RAMM runs separate the PAX right at the beginning. YHC never really sees the 6 milers and most of the 5 milers at a normal run, so this route was to keep everyone on the same field. YHC hoped everyone would set a goal of how many laps they could try to finish before the downhill jaunt back to the flag. There was a good group of 6 milers today who ran the field counter-clockwise and the 4.5/5 milers ran it clockwise which meant there was a lot of meetings and greetings. Sippy got in the whole 6 laps for 6.5 miles!

Lug Nut did not get lost but TYA did. He quickly recovered, though.

Saab said the surface of the path on Bandy Field was too hard. Asphalt is hard, also. Just sayin’. Not sure where else we can run. YHC will have to find some mud to run in next time.

All in all, it was a great morning!

    Have a great day all!

  • Hot/Humid Roller Coaster/HDHH

11 strong hit the hot, mean streets of Libbie and Grove and one more joined for HDHH on this hot and humid edition of Wednesday Hill Run/HDHH.

    The Route:

Granite to Cary to the hills Kennondale / Tempsford. Run the pair of hills as many times as you can in the allotted time of 33 minutes. 5 minutes to get to the hills and 7 minutes to get back. 45 minutes total.

Everyone got in at least 2 rounds of the hills. Special T-Claps to Rosie for getting in 3.25 rounds and Saab for getting in 3.5 rounds.

    BTTF

Numberama, Namearama and YHC took us out!

    NMS:

WOW that was tough and hot!! Special shout out to the guys who posted this morning at WDOG and then turned around and did this! Well Done! The rainstorm that came through an hour beforehand did not cool things down at all. It probably made conditions worse. Back at Palani Drive, beverages were had and Chum Bucket joined us for said beverages. Great turnout tonight and great conversation. Come on out to the Wednesday Hill Run this summer so you can get in BRR shape.

Also, T-claps to Rosie for driving from Roanoke straight to the Hill Run with 2 minutes to spare. Nice timing!

    SYITG!

  • What do you want to do for Father’s Day, honey? Run Trails, of course!

Eleven strong posted for the latest edition of Sunday Funday, Father’s Day style!

Independence Day Convergence. July 4th at Tredegar. 7am.

    Summer Tour

    Shakedown shaving head. Needs $74.00

    NMS:

YHC’s M asked him a couple weeks ago what he wanted to do for Father’s Day. Answer was Q the Sunday Trail Run for starters. YHC really never was in the lead for the run. We left that to Crickey and others. Beautiful morning on the trails. There was a Hardywood sighting on the Buttermilk(non-F3 sanctioned) and Faceplant ran the opposite direction due to being LIFO and taking a guess which way we went. YHC had no idea Flipper was with us until at the end at the parking lot he appeared out of the woods at the end of the trail. He was a couple minutes LIFO and kept us in sight for the most part. Dude is piling on the miles right now. Great job, Flipper!

Thanks to all who doubled back or waited at times for YHC to catch up. Enjoyed this morning very much and also enjoyed the new part of the North Bank Trail that was just finished, though it does cut some distance off from the old route. Also, ET’s was fun but brief for YHC. Had to roll and spend the rest of the day with my other family:)

Have a great Father’s Day all and see you in the gloom!

  • PreBlast – Roller Coaster/HDHH JUNE 19TH @6PM! (note time change)

PreBlast – Roller Coaster/HDHH JUNE 19TH @6PM! (note time change)

The Wednesday June 19th Roller Coaster hill run will launch from the parking lot behind Palani Drive (401 Libbie Avenue). We will meet in the parking lot and have a hard start at 6PM. We will then run up and down some nearby hills and then retreat back to Palani Drive for HDHH! If you cannot make the run, please join us at the restaurant. Runners should be back by 6:45PM or so. There is outdoor seating at Palani Drive, which will be key for those that do not smell the best after a run. This will be good training for BRR 2019 (the running part and the beer drinking part afterwards.) Also, you can check off TWO SUMMER TOUR ITEMS from your SUMMER TOUR list, one of which is EXTRA CREDIT! See ya there!

  • Splinter’s Countryside Lollipop Feels Great!

Well, if you made this far into the backblast, the title must have caught your eye!

15 strong posted for a version of Splinter’s Countryside Lollipop ROUTE which felt great this morning in the 50 degree gloom. 0528 and the PAX were given instructions for the 4 and 5 miles routes. YHC had already revealed to Saab the 6 mile route via text yesterday, so he could lead them on the long distance run. 0530, let’s go!

4 Mile Route: Around the lake via the trail to a left onto College. Immediate right onto University. University across Westham and Ridge and up to Ralston. Right onto Ralston, immediate left back onto University. At the end of University, run up the driveway that turns into a trail that comes out onto Roslyn Hills. Go right up the hill to September and then turn around and backtrack to the VSF

5 Mile Route: Same as 4 except turn left onto September which turns into Countryside. Come down Countryside and hang a left onto Ruggles Rd. At end of Ruggles, turn left onto Roslyn Hills and venture back to trail and return to VSF.

6 Mile Route: Same as 5 except do not turn onto Ruggles. Stay straight on Countryside until it ends at River Road. Left onto River Rd. Left onto Charnwood. Right onto Standish. Left onto Roslyn Hills. Back onto trail and return to VSF, but adding a jaunt to the footbridge and back to get 6 miles in.

Numberama, Namearama, Announcements and YHC took us out!

    Announcements:

Summer Tour is in full swing, except it didn’t feel like Summer this morning.

Next HDHH/Roller Coaster run is going to be Wednesday, June 19th at 6pm. Palani Drive rear parking lot. Run hills at 6pm. HDHH at 6:45pm. Great chance to check off two Summer Tour items, albeit, one is extra credit(HDHH). ***NOTE THE TIME CHANGE***

Independence Day Convergence is on Thursday, July 4th at 7am at Tredegar, just like Memorial Day.

    NMS:

Lots of PAX members got turned around this morning. “If you haven’t been lost, turned around or second guessed yourself at a Spider Run, then have you really been to a Spider Run??”

Lug Nut continues to absolutely crush runs and boot camps day after day. He got in over 5 miles this morning and is looking slimmer than ever. Well done!

The 4-Pack of 6 milers (Saab, Sippy Cup, Marv and Faceplant had a slight jaunt on a busy River Road but made it through safely and smoked it on the way back.

Glad to have Prohibition from North Carolina run with us this morning. Well done!

Comments were made after COT that the Seal Team’s version of PuppyPile was in progress this morning around the lake. Someone called it “Kiddie Seals” or was it “Kitty Seals”? It may have been “Baby Seals”? Not sure, but all are good names.

YHC enjoyed finally getting back out to Spider Run and leading you fine men this morning. Please don’t forget the sacrifices that were made 75 years ago this Thursday as the Greatest Invasion ever planned and completed began. D-DAY!

  • Florence Griffith Salvucci

YHC thought that it was just going to be he and TYA for the Roller Coaster run this evening, but as YHC pulled into the parking lot behind Palani Drive, he was happy to see Posh already parked and ready to go. Not far behind, Ronnie showed up ready to go and then, the man himself, TYA pulled in and met us at the corner ready to start, except, his running shorts were on inside-out. Now, if you don’t already know, TYA has some challenges with running attire. Well, this attire looked like Florence Griffith Joyner with her underwear outside of her running shorts. After realizing his mistake, TYA hid behind the bushes and made things right.

The route was Palani Drive to Granite south to Cary St. Crossover carefully and proceed to the hills Tempsford and Kennondale. Only this time it was going to be Kennondale only. Continuing the interval theme from Splinter and Spider Run yesterday, YHC called out intervals up Kennondale after we got to the bottom of the hill. Two minutes up as hard as you can and three minutes down to recover. Five repeats were had and then we proceeded back to Palani Drive. YHC saw a Kennondale local and thought he knew her from college, but it turned out to be someone else. Kinda embarrassing.

Back at Palani Drive, the four runners met up with Handshake, Lockjaw and Vinny who had secured the big table on the patio. YHC is proud to announce that Lockjaw still has 100% attendance for F3RVA HDHH’s! Well done, LJ!

Some of the topics discussed during HDHH were as follows:

    -Saab

    -William and Mary stuff

    -BRR

    -Kayaking the James

    -Summer Tour

    -Lab Rat’s devil horns

    -Saab

Great time tonight and we will do this again soon!

Please keep Swirly and his M in your prayers and be ready to help them out with whatever they need. We are here for you, brother!
