  • Anniversaries Abound

A Baker’s Dozen posted to First Watch on this warm, misty, gloomy, foggy morn in order to celebrate some anniversaries. There was also a workout, that went like this:

Mosey over to the tiniest of Henrico parks for:

    COP:

    SSH’s x 20, Helicopters x 10, Ukrainian Soldiers x 10, DQ’s x 10, Jazzercises x 10

Mosey down S. Ridge Road to almost the bottom for:

    Traveling Lindsay:

    Merkins and V-ups (ouch!)

High Knees, Butt Kickers, Ukrainian Soldier Walk, Bernie Sanders, Bear Crawl in between sets.

    Toss the Q to Honeydo

Mosey back up to the parking lot and everyone grab a block.

Teams of 4 rotating between and completing two rounds of Overhead Press, Bench Press, Swings and run a lap around the parking lot.

    Toss the Q to Splinter

One lap around parking lot with block in hand.

Redeposit blocks and mosey over to the curvy brick wall by the church.

Everyone complete/attempt to complete a Balls to the Wall Hand Walk along the length of the wall (this is sure to be shelved until the FW 10th Anniversary)

Mosey around behind the church to the main parking lot and complete 5 Jump Squats at each handicap sign (there were a lot) and bear crawl in between each sign. Turn around at the end and complete 5 Hand-Release Merkins at each sign and Lunge in between. Made it halfway before YHC took the Q back over (sorry, Splinter) and headed back the the shovel flag.

    NMS:

Three years for First Watch and five years for YHC! Double celebration! To start off with, First Watch was an experiment that Honeydo and YHC started that seemed strong at first, waned for a while, grew back stronger for a few months, then really got strong and has stayed that way leading up to today. First Watch has been called a “Stand around and Watch each other” AO by one pax member early on, an “AO for those on the Injured Reserve” by another pax member early on and an AO that’s “not going to make it because it starts a 5am” by a host of others. Well, YHC calls BS!! We are now averaging around 12 each Wednesday with a high of 17. But, it’s not about numbers here. It’s about having a good time oversharing and just letting loose! Broga helps beforehand and coffeeteria helps afterwards. At this AO, anyone can share anything and not worry about any repercussions, especially those repercussions from our M’s. The workout this morning was a repeat of the first workout conducted here, by the same Q’s, at the end of October 2019. Thanks to all for helping make this AO what it is today!

In closing, YHC wants to thank everyone in the F3RVA pax for the last five years. YHC may not post regularly like he used to, but the brotherhood and friendships get stronger every week. YHC appreciates each and every one of you!

  • Kotters to the Q!

Fourteen strong hit the 4.5 out of 5 star Google rated Dogwood Dell parking lot for a Q that was 3 1/2 years in the making. Yes, YHC had not Q’d Dogpile since March 2019. YHC doesn’t know why, but it doesn’t matter. YHC is back and trying to post regularly on Saturdays again. So, let’s get to it!

First, YHC would like to thank the ones who came out this morning for their support, especially Handshake. Second, YHC would like to thank the PAX on Slack who have laughs at YHC’s expense.

Last, YHC cannot Crab Walk worth a crap!

What a great morning, Brothers! It had been way too long. Great to see some guys that YHC hasn’t seen in awhile. Way to put in the work and kill it!

Great to partner with Hanz, Franz, Oyster and Gomer Pyle. By the way, Gomer likes it on his upper back during Block the Plank!

Bootleg is taking his job as Dogpile Site Q very seriously, so sign up to Q and let’s #MDPFA!

  • Inaugural First Watch Hot Potato Broga

A Broga first occurred this morning prior to First Watch: A Hot Potato Broga Session!

YHC started us off with some preliminary breathing exercises with Mountain Pose leading into a series of dead man hangs, Warrior 1, Warrior 2 and then attempting the Tree Pose. We need to work on our balance in order to perfect Tree Pose.

EF Hutton then dropped us down to our mats and initiated some Cat/Cow, Pigeon and Shoulder Stretch.

Last Call used his few minutes to keep us on the ground with Runner’s Pose and Child’s Pose.

Finally, the potato was tossed to Lockjaw who led us in some breathing exercises leading into Shavasna, which was enhanced by the sounds of Honeydo and Splinter’s voices in the distance.

Each pax used their best hypnotizing voice in order to keep things relaxed.

    Straps were not needed.

Great idea on the Hot Potato, Last Call!

Numbers, Names, Announcements and Flo took us out!

    NMS:

Solid crew this morning even with several regulars travelling, injured or fart sacking. The new blocks seem to be a hit, thanks to Last Call. YHC wasn’t planning on running much this morning only to see 2.4 miles on the Garmin when it was all said and done.

Prayers for Ronnie as he recovers from surgery on his elbow. No more elbow planking for him!

Thanks for taking us out this morning, Flo, and well said!

8 for coffee afterwards at Starbucks, where it’s easy to spend another hour hanging out with brothers!

Enjoy the day, men, and SYITG!

  • Birthdays on Mondays are the worst!

15 strong who were trying to get their week started off on the right foot, converged at Tuckahoe E.S. for a rare Kubota Hoedown Q. According to the lap swimmers at Kanawha Recreation Association, this is probably what happened.

Mosey to the front of the school for:

    Enough of that, let’s mosey.

Numbers, Names, Announcements and YHC took us out!

    Announcements: See Slack 🙂

    NMS:

First of all, welcome to FNG – Buttermaker! He is an assistant football and baseball coach at Freeman. He loves all things military and goes to church with Bodo’s and half of the other pax in Tuckahoe. Handshake was disappointed YHC hasn’t seen Bad New Bears yet.

YHC took us out and prayed for our brother that most of us know, Two Can, who is in jail and awaiting trial. Let us not judge, but let us pray and put things like this into God’s hands.

Finally, thank you for coming out to celebrate YHC’s 45th birthday beatdown. It’s brothers like you and the pax not there that help keep YHC going even when the physical pain and the mental drain get worse.

Enjoy your week, men and SYITG!

  • September 1, 2021…

…was the last time there was an official Roller Coaster workout with a Backblast. Lots of loops and lots of heat and humidity. The thunder rolled but the rains never came to cool us off.

    Enjoyed it, men!

  • Why am I waking up at 4:10am?

That was Handshake’s text to YHC this morning before the departure from the fartsack on this humid, 75 degree morning. We were joined by two more Broga enthusiasts(?) for YHC’s Broga VQ. Also, it was Handshake’s first Broga post, which I’m sure won’t be his last(?)

We worked most of the body, but for some reason, YHC focused on the groin area more than any other area. Shavasna was nice at the end until the sound of car’s mufflers entering the parking lot disturbed the mood.

Well done, all! Thanks for letting me lead.

  • Bald Eagle wearing shades

    Bald Eagle wearing shades

Five River Rats hit the currents of the James River for a HDHH paddle-extravaganza. After a couple of the boats were weighted down with coolers, the trek began. Upriver to the Bosher Dam, hang out at the island near the dam for a few. Try to figure out how the Willey Bridge was built and whether or not the pilings were leaning to the North. Search around for Gomer’s sunglasses, which were not to be found. Circle the island and head back downriver, while watching an eagle swoop down and grab a meal out of the water. Could it be that the eagle found Gomer’s shades? A couple of the PAX think they saw the eagle wearing them after he started flying back up. We will never know.

Great evening for a paddle. No one flipped over on this trip. The PAX is getting the hang of it.

We will be doing this often this summer, stay tuned!

  • Deliverance 3 – Two Fish in the Water

Deliverance 3 – Two Fish in the Water

Eight Kayakers and One Paddle Boarder converged at 5:00am in the brand new parking lot at the new boat ramp at Huguenot Flatwater. According to the lone fisherman on the river bank next to the ramp, this is probably what happened:

COP on nice new concrete area:

SSH’s, DQ’s, Ukrainian Soldiers, Merkins, Scorpion Kicks

    RAMP FUN:

Round 1: Bearcrawl the ramp around to the steps and run up steps.

Round 2: Lunge the ramp around to steps and run up steps.

Round 3: Left Side Shuffle the ramp around to steps and run up steps.

Round 4: Right Side Shuffle the ramp around to steps and run up steps.

    DORA on new boat ramp/dock:

Partner up with one boat. Timer paddles to the middle of the river and paddles back. Other partner is completing LBC’s on dock. Second round, exercise partner is completing Squats.

    Main Event:

Everyone grab their boat and head upriver. At the first crop of rocks, practice Life-Saving 101 to a couple of the PAX (not naming names) who, in the slowest of motions, turned their boats over and went completely under the water. Rest of PAX yells “Fish in the Water!!” Recover the Fish and keep heading upriver around the bend to get a great view of the Willey Bridge and Bosher Dam. With 20 minutes to spare, turn around and head downriver into the awesome sunrise. Take a few minutes to enjoy the fellowship, scenery and God’s creation!

Dock the boats at exactly 6:00am for COT:

Numbers, Names, Announcements and Upchuck took us out!

    Announcements: See Slack!

    NMS:

What a wonderful morning for this! YHC thought last year had perfect weather and river conditions for this workout, but this year was even better! We were the first people to use the brand new parking lot that was just finished yesterday evening. The sandbar is no more, so the exercising had to be completed on the newly built ramp/dock complex. What a nice new complex for river enthusiasts to enjoy! There were a few tricky moments during the DORA when partners were switching out of their boats, but no big issues. The PAX that did not wear gloves really enjoyed the bear crawls on the somewhat jagged concrete ramp. On the beginning on the main paddle upriver, two of the PAX flipped over to the left and went completely under. Fortunately, recovery of these two unnamed PAX went well and the paddle eventually continued on. There was a hard, fast paddle upriver until it was time to turn around and ease back down to the VSF (dock). A few of the PAX bottomed out on some rocks along the way but managed to free themselves without any issues. 100% attendance at coffeeteria afterwards. PERFECT MORNING!

Thanks for posting this morning, men!

    Enjoy your day!
