  • Loopty Loop

In honor of Nascar Championship weekend it felt appropriate to take as many laps around the Bettie Weaver/james River loop as possible in 45 minutes.  Each lap was 1.4 miles and just like an old set of tires my shoes were not as quick at the end as they were in the beginning.   YHC had hoped to “race” other members of the PAX but to no avail as my solo status relegated race day into a simple track day.

    So long for now!

  • New Shoes?

4 strong mosey into the darkness

    The thang

Mosey through Tarrington up Robious across to Ellmsere take a right, through cul-de-sac back around to Brigstock over the bridge through the field …… and back to Bettie Weaver.

    Moleskin

The plan was a nice easy tapering run to break in some new shoes in preparation for the BRR.  Nearly a fail on all accounts.  YHC shoes immediately created blisters limiting the run to more damage control than proper tapering.  And the direction’s given to the speedy pax left out a couple of small turns.  Ultimately all returned on time for a proper COP and out.

  • Good guys, bad guys & Lug Nutz?

4 strong answered the bell on an awesome Monday morning!

    The Thang

The traditional route through Tarrington with the 5 milers making the loop and 4 miler proceeding immediately up Ashwell.  Turn left on Robious and right on Ellesmere.  Follow to Brigstock and turn RIGHT.  Left onto Twin Team and back to Bettie Weaver.

In an effort to redeem oneself for the Q where the PAX got lost and ran roughly 9 miles trying to find their way back to the AO, YHC plotted the path for a repeato!  Success at last, all members of the PAX returned safely and on time.   Not that there weren’t opportunities for chaos as Wedding Singer had the runners in front of him disappear at a key intersection.  Rosie of course provided some local clarity and Honeymoon is now an expert in all roads traveling through the Robious corridor.  The only thing missing was our guest/beast from the northeast, LabRat and Phonics.  Come on back fella’s!

  • This way, then That way

Ten strong mosey into the rainy gloom.

    The Thang

Leaving the lake the 4 milers cross the Huguenot Bridge make the cloverleaf and return.  5 milers extend to Rockfalls Drive and return, 6 milers extend to the Damn and return.

    Moleskin

YHC decided to follow the KISS method when planning the route this morning.  No one got lost and the PAX all returned safely without any concern.  I will call that a victory!   The PAX, as always, was quite impressive both collectively and individually. Running to the gloom, putting in extra mileage, #SOJTakeover leader flying by with a mile to go, Corporate motivation, learning where the real entrance to U of R is located, new construction timelines, practicing yoga by the lake, and of course shipping beer to your vacation destination.  The priorities of BRR prep are evident.     Well done fellas!

  • River Run Run Run Run Run Run Run Run Run………

Five strong mosey into the gloom for what was intended to be a rather simple loop.

    The Thang

The traditional route through Tarrington with the 5 milers making the loop and 4 milers proceeding immediately up “pain in the Ashwell hill”.  Turn left on Robious and right on Ellesmere.  Follow to Brigstock and turn RIGHT.  Left onto Twin Team and back to Bettie Weaver.

    Moleskin

With the SOJ crew spread across the AO’s YHC was not expecting a large turnout today on the home turf. YHC was pleasantly surprised however to see Phonics and Lab Rat at the AO.   After learning the mighty warriors from the east made the journey SOJ in one day YHC knew they were ready for a River Run beatdown.  Honeymoon opted to take the lead for the 5 mile crew and off they went at 5:31.  Now YHC ran/jogged/generally moseyed along the 4 mile route with the goal of returning to the AO before my F3 brothers could arrive.  This was truly a race no one knew they were in other than YHC.  Feeling elated after returning to Bettie Weaver without being caught by the PAX I mosey back up Twin Team to meet the crew.  But they are not there?  I wait, and wait, and wait……  feeling concerned about the guys YHC text Wilson to get Honeymoon’s number.  I call …. no response.  YHC hops in the car and goes on the hunt, but to no avail.  At 7 a.m. Honeymoon and I catch up and he is driving to pick up the remaining PAX and return all to the AO.   #1 Happy to report everyone was ok.  #2 In 90 minutes the 5 mile crew covered between 8 and 9 miles.  #3 Was it an accident, or was it an epic SOJ RiverRun BEATDOWN!?!?!?

    Peace

  • Fox and Hounds

6 strong mosey into the gloom, 5 turn right, one goes left.

    The Thang
The fox turns left onto James River Road, right onto Riverton Ridge, left on Welby, right on Sheffield, left on Ashwell to complete the loop and return. 3.6 miles total for the fox.

The hounds turn right and cross over Robious, turning right again into James River High School Athletic Complex, left on to James River Road into Robious Landing Park making the loop, turning left on Riverton Ridge and make the same loop as the fox. 4.7 miles total for the hounds.

    Moleskin

YHC was the fox on this humid morning trying to stay ahead of the hounds before returning to the AO. With a 1 mile head start but some mighty speedy hounds chasing YHC was not sure the loop could be completed in time. Cresting the top of the Ashwell hill YHC sees Gumbo jogging the wrong direction? He asks if I’ve seen Wilson? I have not, I’m actually trying to make sure I don’t see anyone until we reach the finish line, I think to myself. YHC proceeds on as does Gumbo, keeping an eye out for Wilson somewhere along the route back. One rule any racer learns early in any racing career is to never turn your head and look back, it will always slow you down. Now YHC is not 100% sure that rule applies to running but needless to say YHC ran the last mile pretty certain I could hear footsteps getting ready to catch me at any moment. The fear of being passed can provide some needed motivation. After reaching the AO successfully the hounds arrived about 30 seconds later. YHC probably got a little lucky as some of the hounds may have taken a wrong turn or two. The number of Terraces evidently provided some extra cover for the fox today. Good run men!

YHC learned today that McRib and Rosie both possess highly advanced mathematical skills. Not to mention exceptional athleticism.
Most of today’s sweat fest took advantage of well-lit and even terrain. YHC is hopeful to advance to more challenging topography in the coming weeks.
    Great work men!

YHC learned a few new things today. #1 Gumbo is a BEAST on the blocking sled, #2 Wilson is a serious risk taker, #3 the wildlife simply is not impressed with our effort.

The Circle Burp was as brutal as YHC expected although Jville tried to convince me was had taken an accidental short cut. After a quick double check we were all clear and the mission was complete.

Gumbo’s extra credit run was an impressive way to start the morning, but still not as impressive as his tenacity hitting the blocking sled. All you high school football heroes need to give it a try next week.

You don’t have to live on the south side to attend.

    Great work men!

Good to see Trophy at SOT this morning, He and Gumbo were setting a blazing pace through the exercises. Also, we had lights for the first time since school ended!!! And of course, a couple of buses trying to get the morning started right with the smell of diesel.

A newly painted “racetrack” in the middle of the basketball courts added a nice change of pace in the middle of 4 Corners. If my memory is correct they split the defensive slide races, either way well ahead of YHC.

Looking forward to seeing the number’s rising again at SOT.

  • 58 Degree Mosey

A cool and dark morning greeted YHC with less the a week until the BRR it was time to hit the road for one final run.

Bettie Weaver to Tarrington make the full loop and return. The locals know the route even the YHC doesn’t know the road names. 3.5 miles, short solo prayer thankful for so many gifts and people in my life, and out.

    Peace
