  • Bringing a Little Gumbo to DaVille…GEAUX TIGERS

18 strong (including 1 FNG) posted at DaVille to welcome a new Q from the South.  YHC was so excited that sleep was just not happening last night, so at 0430 I gathered provisions for the trek and saddled up and hit the road.  Arriving the Ville of Mechanics with plenty of time to spare, YHC planted the flag and surveyed the land to make final plans for his DaVille VQ.  It went a little something like this:

Mosey to open parking lot area and circle up for disclaimer and COP, that included:

    • SSHs x30 (for every minute it took YHC to get to the AO this morning)
    • Don Quixote x10 – Swirly Slowsky
    • Hillbillies x15 – another present from the South, though they just aren’t the same without Jville
    • Copperhead Squats x10
    • Hand Release Merkins x10
    • LBCs x20
    • Flutter Kicks x20

Mosey (YHC narrowly avoided being snipered by a GOLDBERG) to the bus loop and grab a curb for curb crawls.  Bear crawl across for 1 incline merkin; Crawl Bear back for 2 derkins…repeat up to 6 and back down to 1.  Al Gore for the six.

Mosey over to the side wall of CMS for a round of 18s (yes, Circle K, that is not 11s or Blackjack – today, we are doing 18s) as follows – start at the wall with 17 Donkey Kicks, then run across grass to sidewalk and do 1 jump-squat, then run back to the wall. Continue increasing/decreasing by 1 until 1DK and 17 jump squats.  Plank-o-Rama for the six.

Mosey to the end of the bus loop by Atlee Station Road and team up for a Triple Check – Merkins, Box Cutters and run around the bus loop.

Form two lines for an Indigenous People Run back to the Flag.

5 Burpees OYO and 1 minute of Superman.

COT, Number-rama, Name-a-rama and YHC took us out.

    NMS –

Welcome to FNG – Ryan – now Uno.  Way to work young man!

As I mentioned above, even though I have Q’d now many times, the excitement of Q’ing at a new AO made sleep difficult, but on the positive side, it wasn’t hard to get to the AO in time.  YHC had several different potential game-plans for today – one included playing some F3 Baseball, but unfortunately the Mechanics keep their well-manicured baseball fields under lock and key and the fences are formidable.

Next plan — bring the pain while celebrating the awesome baseball history of the great LSU TIGERS.  This year marks the Tigers’ 18th trip to the College World Series and their 7th trip to the CWS Final.  The Tigers have 6 CWS Titles to their name.  Watch the youtube video for the greatest clutch HR in NCAA CWS History.  I remember watching this game after my Senior year of high school and going CRAZY when Morris hit it…ENJOY.

As a bonus fact, 18 was YHC’s baseball number, so perfect harmony with the theme and with the size of the PAX today….I love it when a plan comes together.

The Tigers were defeated last night by the FLA Gators, but hopefully the Tigers can rally tonight to force a decisive game 3 tomorrow night.  GEAUX TIGERS!

The PAX, including Uno and Slash crushed the workout today.  The 18s proved as difficult as I thought and took up some serious time, so a few other surprises had to get the AX.  I’ll save them for next time!

Way to work today men.  It was great to join you guys and meet some new folks.  I love seeing the youngsters out there bringing the energy.  You guys have a strong PAX in DaVille.  Keep up the great work and I look forward to getting back up North soon.

    Announcements:

For today…no more Gumbo for you!

  • A Leisurely 2-man River Run Stroll

2 men escaped the post-Father’s Day food coma to post at River Run, including 1 River Run virgin.  The hills were in the original plans, but instead we opted for a more comfortable 4.2 mile jaunt through the River Downs neighborhoods as shown below.

Thanks for coming out Mr. Roper – it was fun running and catching up with you.

  • No More MERKINS for You…

6 SOT regulars posted this morning in the not-so-gloomy gloom of SOT for a little hump day beatdown, YHC planted the flag, took the Q and off we went, starting with a mosey to the track and 1 lap around, then circle on the asphalt platform at the end of the track for COP.

COP (all IC) – SSH x25, DQ x15, Imperial Walkers x15, Copperhead Squats x15, Arm Circles x15 (10 small, 5 large) forward then reverso, LBCx x20, Flutter Kicks x20.

Mile Triple Check – split into groups of 3 and do 4 rounds of the following (to get a full mile in) – one Pax-member does box cutters, second Pax-member does squat jumps and third Pax-member sprints 1 lap around the track.

Pole-smoker Indian Run – mosey to the poles across the track and grab a pole.  Hold 6-inches while end-guy does 7 pole-smokers and then runs to the other end…watch out for the ants or chiggers? Carmen…

Mosey up to the tennis court for some tracers across all 4 courts – following the leader…YHC.  At the end of the court pause for 25 SSHs IC then tracers back and 25 SSHs IC at the other end.

2 MOM – APDs and Mariah Careys

Mosey back to the flag for COT – number-rama, name-a-rama and YHC took us out

    Announcements:

    • Wilson mentioned that there last week while he was in Charlotte 4 or 5 guys at the workouts had recently become unemployed.  Let’s keep those guys (and others in F3 dealing with life obstacles) in your thoughts and prayers.
    • VQ week June 26 – sign up
    • C-ville still looking for a Q and some clowns for this Saturday – see Lab Rat

Great work today guys.  YHC had to declare a Merkin holiday at SOT today after Offshore’s punishing merkin and bear-fest at Heartbreak Ridge.  YHC’s right should was toast…of course it has nothing to do with throwing 3 rounds of BP to 12 10 year olds on Saturday and Sunday – had to bring the heat to a few after they got a little big for their britches!

Great to have Carmen SanDiego back out today – way to push through.  Hope you got rid of the ants/chiggers that attached you during pole-smokers.

Shawshank was on fire during the triple check – way to work young man.  Proud to be your uncle and to watch you work and grow!

    Have a great day men,

    No more Gumbo for you!

  • Prime Number Day

14 (not a prime number) men took the red pill this morning and posted on ultimate prime day 5-31-2017 (all prime numbers), including one F3RVA RAMM Gears regular who was breaking the seal on the bootcamp for the first time, it may have been sunny and 70 in our minds but it was definitely thick and humid on the ground, and this is how it went down…

Mosey to the circle in front of the Amphitheater for COP, including:

    • Don Quixotes (super slow) x5 IC
    • SSH x31 IC
    • Copperhead Squats x17 IC
    • Tempo Merkins (also nice and slow) x 5 IC
    • LBC x31 IC
    • Flutter Kicks x17 IC
    • 5 WWII situps OYO

Mosey to the side of the Carillon for Prime Number Touch a Tree.

    • Round 1 – run to 5 trees and perform the following exercises:
      • 1st Tree = 5 Burpees
      • 2nd Tree = 5 Burpees + 11 Merkins
      • 3rd Tree = 5 Burpees + 11 Merkins + 17 WWII situps
      • 4th Tree = 5 Burpees + 11 Merkins + 17 WWII situps + 23 2-count mountain climbers
      • 5th Tree = 5 Burpees + 11 Merkins + 17 WWII situps + 23 2-count mountain climbers + 31 single-count SSHs
      • Plank-o-rama for the six
    • Round 2 – run to 5 different trees and repeat the above except substitute jump-squats for Burpees and CDDs for merkins. Al Gore variety for the six

Mosey to the flower pots in front of the Carillon for a Triple Check (3 is a prime number!), including Balls to the Flower Pots, Box Cutters and run up the steps around the back of the tower and back down.

Mosey to the circle in front of the amphitheater and partner up (2 is also a prime number!).  Face your partner and get in plank position between the curbs for Noah’s Ark — front pair perform 11 merkins and then run around the circle to the back of the PAX.  When they reach the back, the next pair starts the merkins and so on.  The PAX holds plank throughout.

Form a circle in the grass area and perform 23 WWII situps OYO, then a little six-inches and Dolly Ring of Fire – PAX holds six inches and take turns doing 10 Hello Dollies (yep, the Prime Number theme fell apart — old habit going with 10 – and it just freaking hit me…DAMN!).  Time is up, let’s head back to the Shovel Flag for COT, number-rama, name-a-rama and Hardywood took us out today.

    Announcements:

    • VQ week – June 26 — sign up.  If you need a Q-partner or Q-mentor to bounce ideas off of, reach out.
    • Fudd’s Summer Soiree (5 p.m. June 10th) – RSVP here:  http://f3nation.com/2017/05/15/pre-blast-summer-soiree-at-fudds-house/

    • C-ville continues – HoneyDo is heading up Saturday and may have room for 1 or 2 more.  RVA also has weeks 5 (June 17 — needs a Q Leader) and 6 (June 24 – Lab Rat has the Q).  Jump in if you can.

    NMS

Strong work today by the PAX and great to have No Tools out for his first bootcamp beatdown.  I think he was calling for his bike after the first round of touch-a-tree.  Way to push it brother.  Thanks for indulging the all prime numbers today, and for pointing out that we skipped 13 in our sequence of counts for touch-a-tree (I’m looking at you Lab Rat).  I wanted to get over 100 WWIIs.  Also, thanks for not pointing out my brain fart with the 10 Dollies in the ROF…habit.

Thanks for letting me lead this morning me.  It is always an honor, a pleasure and a lot of fun!

Til next time…No more Gumbo for you!

  • Post-Holiday Ab Blaster

16 gloom warriors posted at NoToll this morning where the weather Sunny and 70 (as usual) with a little extra Humidity Sauce on the side.  The PAX showed up to work off some holiday excess and YHC was on a mission to put the monthly challenge goal in reach between this morning and tomorrow morning at W-Dog.  This is what went down…

Mosey to the back parking lot for COP, which included SSHs, DQs (extremely slow), Copperhead Squats, Hillbillies (YHC tried his best to impersonate J-ville but there’s nothing like the real thing), LBCs and 25 WWII situps OYO.

Mosey to the pavilion field and line up on the sideline for Black-jack with jump squats and WWII situps (last week’s SOT crew new the pain in store but as I believe Honeymoon said – at least the field is softer than the tennis courts at SOT). Plank-o-rama for the six.

Mosey to the front field for a round of ascending 4-corners.  Start in corner #1 with 10 merkins, run to corner #2 and do 10 merkins and 20 WWII situps, run to corner #3 and do 10 merkins, 20 WWII situps and 30 single-count mountain climbers, run to corner #4 and do 10 merkins, 20 WWII situps, 30 mountain climbers and 40 single-count SSHs, run back to corner #1 and Al Gore for the six.

Circle up on the field for a quick merkin ring of fire.

Mosey back to the basketball courts for 5 WWII situps OYO (for an even 300) and a few minutes of mary with box cutters x20 IC and hello dolly x20 IC.

2 minutes left and McRib just wanted to hug, so YHC obliged with 10 Burpees OYO and finish off with 1 minute of superman with some great vocals – 2x through the chorus.

COT, number-rama, name-a-rama, announcements and YHC took us out.

    Announcements included:

    1. VQ week – June 26 – get on the schedule if you haven’t Q’d or try a new AO if you are a Q-regular
    2. Fudd’s summer soiree (aka stock the bar) – June 10th.  RSVP to the pre-blast if you can make it — http://f3nation.com/2017/05/15/pre-blast-summer-soiree-at-fudds-house/
    3. June 3 Moo and Brew for Crossover Healthcare (see Malpractice) — http://f3nation.com/2017/05/27/preblast-june-3-moo-brew-5k-benefiting-crossover-healthcare-ministry-redskins-training-camp-scotts-addition/
    4. June 10 Cornhole and Rock N Roll to benefit Reese Strong – see Phonics
    5. C-ville launch is in full swing and the men of C-ville need a little less Swirly, TYA and Bleeder in their lives, so get a clown car and get to C-ville.  Honeydo has this weekend and has 2 spots left (maybe?).  Roanoke has June 10, but then RVA has June 17 and June 24, so plan a day trip…BODOS and Rank shoes are just two of the many benefits for making the trip.
    6. If you have an eagle scout, Flatline says there is a FREE night at Southside Speedway _______
    7. Prayers out for EF Hutton’s father and Lockjaw’s father-in-law…we are thinking about you guys.

    NMS –

Great work today men.  The gloom was thick and the sweat was rolling.  Great to see BFG and Shakedown posting regularly.  BFG was killing the Blackjack today – I see you working BFG – EB!  Great to see the New Market clown car continuing to roll strong…apparently Memorial Day is a sleep day in New Market.  And McRib appears to have cracked the Hallsley time zone issue.

Some good mumblechatter today men.  And, everyone crushed the 4-corners.  Great work men.  An honor and pleasure to lead as always!

    No more Gumbo for you!

  • Wet WWII Catch-up Day at SOT

6 strong posted at SOT and got wet right from the beginning, this is what transpired:

Mosey to the tennis courts and find a good wet spot for 30 WWII situps OYO (yep, somebody was behind on the monthly challenge).  Continue COP with the following:

    • SSHs
    • DQs
    • Imperial Walkers
    • Copperhead Squats
    • Merkins

Hit the end-line for a little Black-jack with jump-squats and, you guessed it, WWII situps. Start with 20 jump-squats and 1 WWII situp, then run across all 4 tennis courts and do 19 and 2 … so on down to 1 and 20.

240 WWII situps down, time to Mosey

Mosey to the school (watch your step – goose poop everywhere) for a classic Triple Check with BTTW, Flutter Kicks and a run. Pause 1/2 way through for 30 more WWII situps OYO (up to 270)

Mosey to the curb for a curb crawl – Bear Crawl forward for incline merkins and Crawl Bear back for derkins, up to 5 and back down.

Mosey back to parking lot for 30 more WWII situps (for an even 300) and some Mary (Hammers and Box Cutters).

Then 12 Burpees OYO – one for each year the Roger Moore portrayed James Bond — RIP Roger.

COT, number-rama, name-a-rama and YHC took us out.

No new announcements – find Fudd’s pre-blast for his soiree and RSVP if you are going.

PS – YHC has signed up to Q workouts on 5/30 and 5/31, so lookout for very similar plans of action if YHC is behind on the monthly challenge.

    No more Gumbo for you!

  • Traditional River Run…Backwards

4 River Run veterans eschewed the forecast and broke free from the comfort of the fartsack to start the work week with some hills and some miles.

The suggestion was made during last week’s run and YHC decided to give it a try – the traditional River Run route backwards — left out of Bettie Weaver for a loop around by the high school across Robious and up the trail to Twin Team.  Up up up up…..up Twin Team, then down Powderham Lane and cross through the BUSH from the back side, across Robious Road and into Tarrington.  Down the long Ashwell hill and around the circle and back up to the swimming pool.  Hang a right and book it back to the Bettie Weaver past the high school.

Twin Team was a brutal as ever, but Rosie made it look easy.  He just pulls away with ease on the hills.  A mountain goat has nothing on him.  While the Ashwell downhill was a nice change, the hill coming back up toward the poolhouse was another kick in the shorts (at least for YHC) at the 3.5 mile mark.  Honemoon and Rosie were unphased.  We caught up to LugNut at about 4.25 miles and he was picking them up and putting them down steady as she goes.  4.82 on my watch, but I’m sure Rosie and Honeymoon got closer to 5 with a doubling back a couple times to pick me and LugNut up.

Well done fellas.  Always a great start to the work week.  Have a great Monday men!

  • Clown cars, visitors, and a WHOLE LOT OF SUCK…just another Dogpile – Best day of the Week

31 STRONG graced Dogpile, including 1 veteran visitor from Charlotte and 3 FNGs related to Wilson yet willing to let the guns out on this beautiful RVA morning.  Even though Corporate was away, the PAX did not play – we took care of business and this is how it went down (more or less)…

Mosey to circle in front of amphitheater for COP — we filled that circle up today.

    • SSH x20 IC
    • DQ x10 IC
    • Imperial Walkers x20 IC
    • Merkins x10 IC
    • Flutter Kicks x20 IC
    • LBCs x20 IC

Mosey to Rusty Cage for the Chris Cornell Memorial portion of the beatdown…pair up and complete 52 pull-ups as a pair.  Plank for the six.

Mosey to the top step of the Amphitheater for a dip ladder – 18 on the top step down to 1 at the bottom.  Al Gore for the six.

    1-minute of WWII situps

Box-jump ladder back up to the top of the Amphitheater – 1 to 18.  This was way harder than it looks on paper!

Plank-o-rama around the circle for the six.

Mosey to the field and break into teams of 5 teams 6 for THE SUCK relays.  5 cones for exercises.  One team member at each cone and 1 runner (rabbit).  Rabbit runs from 5th cone to end of the field and back.  Perform AMRAP of each exercise until the rabbit returns, then bear crawl to the next station.  Continue until all team members have been the rabbit.  Exercises were:

    1. Merkins
    2. Box Cutters
    3. Monkey Humpers
    4. WWII Situps
    5. Burpees

Plank and WWII situps for the six.

Second Round of the THE SUCK – the transition between cones was lunges.

YHC passed the Q-baton to Wilson for 7 minutes of Mary including every variety of cross-leg exercise you can think of, some Superman, some APDs (one-leg and regular) and some pickle-pounders…AKA- Wilson’s Special Mix

YHC reclaimed the Q after a near mutiny and we formed 3 lines for a run of the Indigenous People back to the Shovel Flag…3/4 of the way there the buzzer sounded and YHC called a JAIL BREAK and it was a full-out sprint to the flag.  FNGs Foreclosure and Bueller took off like they were shot out of a cannon…and Rosie did his normal thing.  Not sure how those guys had so much left in the tank.  Oh to be in your 20s again…or to be Rosie!

COT, number-rama, name-a-rama and Wilson took us out with inspiring words.

    Announcements:

    • C-ville expansion is happening.  Hope it went well today and can’t wait for the report.  Clown cars and Qs needed for next 5 weekends.  HoneyDo has first weekend in June and is looking for riders.
    • HoneyDo has Breaking Bread Q this Sunday and is looking for some helpers — 5:30.  See HoneyDo for details.
    • Memorial Day convergence – meet in the Tredegar Parking Lot and be ready for a Hot Potato Q.  I believe the start time is 0630 (but it may be 0600).  HoneyDo – confirm in the comments please.
    • ReeseStrong corn hole and rock n roll coming up — June 10??  See Phonics for details.
    • Wilson’s golf tourney was a blast. 365 days until the next one — get your 4-some ready now.  Swirly is going to get F3 golf shirts for us!!

    NMS

What a great morning and what a great turnout at Dogpile.  It was Sunny and 70 in the RVA today (and about 90% humidity).  The sweat was rolling, the mumblechatter was vibrant and some hard work was done.  No better way to start the weekend.  Thanks for letting me lead.  It is a pleasure and always humbling to see so many guys show up, give it their all (and then some) and then find extra inside to encourage others.

Greatest moment for me had to be seeing FNGs Foreclosure and Bueller take off to the end of the field following Wilson to go bring FNG Al Bundy home for the last leg of THE SUCK.  That is F3, men.  You guys personified it right there and that is why I love being part of this group.

You all are beasts.  Be SUPER today.

7 regulars determined (sort of) to end the work week with a beatdown at TwinTeam…6 of the them were LIFO.  As the clock struck 0530, YHC thought this was going to be just me and Rosie down by the schoolyard and we began to mosey toward cover to begin…wait, there are two cars pulling – circle the loop and head back to pick up the LIFOs – Hardywood and the New Market Crew (Marmaduke with Wilson and Honeymoon in tow — damn if that doesn’t sound like the next coming of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.  I can totally see Hardywood working the big bag while the other three do their best running man moves in the background — shirts optional; baggy pants mandatory).  Once HATNMC settles in, COP begins with obligatory watch and clock comments and SSHs…

Its a plane, its a bird, its an Explorer coming in hot…Its McRib, rolling in on Eastern McRib Time – clearly its an official time zone HAAAALSLEY.

McRib rounds out the PAX for lucky #7 and we actually get to work.  Complete COP, which included DQs, Helicopters and Imperial Walkers.

Mosey down the road to the covered walkway by the high school (nearly get run over by the school bus in the process…).

2 minutes of WWII situps – yes YHC is behind on the monthly challenge.  PS, Sweet N Sour (Rosie’s 2.0 is killing it!! Props to SNS).

    Announcements:

    • New AOs abound – Heartbreak Ridge (West End on Tuesdays), Pole Green (Mechanicsville on Thursdays)
    • Charlottesville startup – May 20.  See TYA if you can go.  Be on the lookout for future clown cars heading to C-ville
    • Wilson’s golf tournament, May 19.  May be full now, but support the cause anyway — www.forethecause.org.
    • Thursday Tennis Socials – see HoneyDo.  The PAX today was curious to hear a report from last night, especially whether anyone when full McEnroe and broke a racket.

Unfortunately, no varmints were released today, so that was disappointing (especially to Honeymoon), but the PAX got in some good work nonetheless.  Some great fellowship and mumblechatter as always.  Thanks for letting me lead this morning men – always a pleasure.

    No more Gumbo for you!
