  • 2024 HR Derby – errr – Burpee Derby

22 men showed up at Huguenot Little League to show their best Ohtani and Judge impersonations – only 6 men were successful in hitting the ball out of the park, and only 1 man (Orange Crush) left the yard twice. Congrats to OC on winning the 2024 HR Derby and congrats to the PAX for doing well over 100 Burpees, among other exercises. Maybe next year, Outs will equal APDs?

We assembled in right field for some COP and light calisthenics and warm-up, and also to collect names for the batting order. Directions were given – 3 Swings, anything other than a HR is an Out, each Out = 3 Burpees for the fielders and a lap for the batter, each HR deletes a lap for the batter and allows the batter to choose a substitute exercise for the fielders. Then it was time for the main event.

A lot of 3-out = 9 burpee performances, unfortunately, but I guess it makes us stronger. And, resulted in the end of the batting order barely being able to swing. Crabgrass, Rudy, 3 Doors Down, McRib and Meatball each launched 1 HR. OC launched 2. Those guys graced us with merkins and squats instead of Burpees.

We cleaned up, dusted off, and returned to the Flag for COT, numbers, names, announcements and prayers. YHC took us out with thanks for the ability to be kids again this morning.

Only 1 announcement – James River Float – August 11 – see slack for details

  • Puddles, Rucks, Old Glory and a Ghost?

An unafraid 14 showed up for a mudbath mixed with an Old Glory. 8 doubled-down with rucksacks and 1 turned into a ghost. Just another great morning at NoToll.

Old Glory made its quarterly appearance and most knew what was coming. Scram did not, and I’m guessing Bullseye did not. Bullseye disappeared after lap 1 – he may have tweaked something or he may have drowned in one of the corners…TBD. No, seriously, I hope Bullseye is fine and just decided to save himself for tomorrow. Throw up a flare and let us know you are ok, brother.

The rest of us were water-logged before finishing the first mile. Then the clock was set for 20 minutes of fun. Burpee-corner was especially wet but we make it work.

Major respect to those who did it with rucksacks and especially those (NTB and Dealer and others?) who ran it with the rucksacks. STRONG!

A few minutes of stretching and planks to finish us off and then numbers, names, and a WET COT with prayers for all those suffering illness or injury and for safety for NTB’s brother who is in Israel for work and some travel.

Lots of Rucking options out there. Sign up for GTE if you will be around.

New Crossings AO tomorrow evening – see Slack for details

    Be good today!

  • Miles walk and run; Interesting cases/careers discussed and blood spilled…

Just another Sunday OTB. 4 2-legged runners followed our favorite 4-legged pace car for some flat miles (6.25) through Salisbury. We passed Draper’s house and sent some healing vibes his way. Heal that ankle up quickly brother.

Coach OshA entertained us with some of his current cases. I think Boberry may be contemplating a career change but I’ll leave that to others to inquire.

Poor Annie wore off some pads on her paws dragging Honeymoon around today. Tough work Annie. Heal up quickly girl.

3 walkers solved all the worlds problems and shared tea bags afterwards…don’t ask.

    Another great OTB. Thanks guys.

  • The 2024 (Not So) Frozen Triangle

At total of 45 guys by my count (let me know if I missed you in any COT) showed up today at at last one COT and many, 36 by my count, completed multiple legs or rucked/ran the entire time, and this included an FNG that did the entire CSAUP. Way to go men! That’s a great day.

Oyster took the Q at Dogpile and kicked off right with a good old COT and then an ascending incline merkin ladder up the Amphitheater. That took up all the time and I don’t think Heist actually got the Q. Sorry buddy. We know you were ready. COT #1

Off to Punisher we went by any transportation you wish. 3.67 miles by my watch with a little circling back for the 6. Refuel and kickoff beatdown #2.

Spit kicked us off with a lazy (merkin filled) triple check with balls to the wall and people’s chair, then we got two rounds of tunnel of love – man I wish we were on the lush fields of NoToll for those, but we were not. Then YHC took the reigns and we did a little COP, some Donkey Kicks and WWIIs at some trees and then some ab work. COT #2

Off to 45MOM – 2.93 miles by my watch. Refuel and kickoff beatdown #3

Yee Haw joined the party and brought some stretches – thank you. But then the brought a beast of a 4 corners starting with 10 burpees – OUCH. Yee Haw tossed it to Faceplant who brought the creative Rock Paper Scissors competition that resulted in burpees and planks and ultimately, Slipping Jimmy pulling one out for the good guys (#2s) against Wildcat. Personally, I think Wildcat just wanted the extra 20 burpees. Sorry Team 1. COT #3

Off to complete the triangle and return to Dogpile – 2.49 miles by my watch for a total (not including bootcamps) of 9.09 miles.

Our resident Forrest Gump (Big Rig) ran the entire time logging over 20 miles. Our Ruckers clocked in over 9 miles too. STRONG work everyone!

As I said in my earlier Slack post, lots of guys helped pull this off. Thanks to you all. Many of you have asked for my Venmo. It is @Goldman-MP. No obligation to send anything. If you want to – don’t send much. Anything is appreciated.

Thanks for coming out and for participating. Looking forward to next year or there is talk of maybe trying a Hot Triangle south of the border (SOJ) this summer…stay tuned.

  • KB EMOM

11 metal lugging gloom warriors, including on DR visitor from GA, descended upon TwinTeam this morning and many also got in a pre-game Ruck. At 0530 GUMBO was served.

Long mosey around the bus loop and back to pick up the kettle bells then carry them to the blacktop behind BWES. Circle up for COP, including many IC exercises but most notably (and appreciated) were the Jazzercisers (HBD Nancy) and the toe taps – a crowd pleaser and mumblechatter inducing exercise for sure.

The THANG today was various KB movements and combinations Every Minute on the Minute. After each set of 3, we moved a bit to keep the blood flowing. Good mix of all body parts were worked today and the mouth and laughter muscles especially. Great morning gents. Thanks for letting me lead.

    TwinTeam is rising!

Back to the actual shovel flag for Numbers, Names, Announcements and Prayers. Lots of stuff happening around F3 RVA – two things coming up next are the Frozen Triangle next weekend (2/10) or a Frozen Triangle Ruck Teaser tomorrow. See Slack for Details.

  • 5th Edition of Magnum P.I.

On this beautiful Saturday morning almost exactly 43 years after the first episode of the original show, 20 HIMs posted for a serving of Gumbo. It went something like this:

Mosey to the COP circle and 2 laps around to warm up, then circle up for COP, including:

    • Higgins (DQs)
    • TCs (Helicopters)
    • Magnum Merkins (Tempo Merkins touching your stache to the ground)
    • Rick’s (six inches – Rick doesn’t do anything)
    • Hello Dollies
    • Copperhead squats
    • Imperial Walkers

    THANG

Mosey to Robin’s Nest (the Amphitheater) for the follwing

Honor the pilot episode 12/11/1980 with

    • 12 merkins – lap around the Amphitheater…audible- come down middle steps to avoid nastiness on the far side.
    • 11 squats – lap
    • 19 WWIIs – lap
    • 80 SSHs – lap
    • plank for the six

Honor the 162 episodes on the 18 stairs – 9 box jumps per stair going up and 9 dips coming down. Al Gore for the six.

Mosey back to the stage for Touch a Palm Tree. 8 rounds – 1 for each season. Round 1 touch 1 tree while partner does some form of merkin. Round 2, touch 2 trees while partner does some sort of ab exercise. All the way up to 8 trees – each partner does each round.

Mosey down to the Golden Triangle for a quick Volcano – bernie up the hill, 1 burpee, then jog around the triangle and back down.

Mosey back to the Flag and complete 78 SSHs for Tom Selleck – or as many as you can until time is called.

Numbers, Names, and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • 12 Days of Christmas – Rosie’s special treat to the PAX – NoToll 12/19. Still time to sign up for the gift exchange.
    • Liv has her first post-Chemo MRI on Friday – send those prayers up for some good news.
    • Oyster is counting the days until Pickleball is back at Batteau

    NMS:
Always great fun to put a Hawaiian shirt on and have some fun. A few strong staches out there today, but I think DTH took the crown this year. Well done Doc Holliday! Thank you all for coming out, and thank you to all those who supported YHC’s efforts to raise some money for Sportable (www.sportable.org). Much appreciated.

Lots of great mumblechatter today. But the cherry on the top today was discovering McGruff’s superpower – pickle pounders (hip dips). That boy can go. Look out Shakira. Sorry I missed coffeeteria – had to coach a basketball game.

  • Sharing a little birthday dinner

It was a great addition to YHC’s low-key 45th birthday to spend some time cooking dinner with my 2.0s and delivering the tasty product to the good folks at the Daily Planet medical respite facility…aka, Breaking Bread. Some tasty grilled chicken (using the same spice rub my son and I used for the grilled turkey breast on Thanksgiving), some roasted potatoes, salad, Hawaiian rolls and cookies was the menu, but the real blessing was spending that time planning, cooking, delivering and talking about it all with my 2.0s and my M. And, the cherry on top, was the thankful reception and gracious smiles received upon delivery and serving. If you haven’t done Breaking Bread yet, get on the sign up sheet for 2024 dates and get it done!

  • Down Manders – Is that possible?

4 early risers launched at 5:10 for a couple easy pre-game extra miles to stay on track with Half training, then we swung back by the launch site to pick up 3 more runners for the main attraction – 5 miles through the Mines trails UP Queensgate and DOWN Manders. Turns out it sucks a little bit either way you go.

Boberry took a spill in the road under construction but kept on trucking, and he, Rosie, and Rosetta turned on the burners in Queensgate. Heist held on for a mile or so. Honeymoon and YHC kept the reasonable pace. Bullseye peeled off after the mines trail but resurfaced Midlo Middle. Well done.

All in all, a great start to this Hump Day. thanks guys.

  • SOJ Takeover Sort of

A former SOJ Q and several SOJ regulars made this almost a SOJ Takeover of FW. This is what happened according to passers-by who also don’t sleep:

Avoid getting run over by Fudd or Handshake, the 0530, time to mosey across River Road and back around the church backlot and circle up for COP, including jazzercisers with a Hillbilly hop just to make those who journeyed across the river feel welcome.

    THANG – following COP:

11s – Donkey Kicks on the dumpster wall, run to steps and WWIIs

    recovery lap

COP #2 (The Interlude) at the stairs with various exercises including plank-o-rama, merkins, Imperial Squat Walkers and monkey humpers

Mosey back across River Road to Triangle for the No Cheat Triangle – 10 no-cheat merkins, run to next point and 20 2-ct mountain climbers, run the base and 30 2-ct Freddy mercuries and back to the starting point for plank-o-rama and someone got sprayed by a skunk – damn that stunk – mosey to the parking lot for round 2

4 Corners – same as above with the triangle but add 40 1-ct ball dippers in corner 4.

Finish with a Ring of Fire and some flutters, hello dollies, rosalitas and six inches

COT, Numbers, Names and prayers then coffeeteria.

    Announcements:

    • Senor Frog’s VQ at Hoedown on Monday

Good times boys. Thanks to the Rountrey crew (and McGruff) for making the trek.

  • An OG Sweatfest

A fearless 16 men knew what was coming (or that something that earned a name was coming) and posted anyway. No time to chat, 0530 Let’s ___ Go!

YHC with SF in hand started the mosey to the back lot and 2 laps around the fields for mile 1.

Brief gathering in the near corner to plant the SF and give quick directions, clock set for 20 minutes, OG starts NOW:

    Corner 1 20 merkins

    Corner 2 20 jump squats

    Corner 3 10 Burpees

    Corner 4 20 WWIIs

As many laps as you can do in 20 minutes. Then 2 laps around the field Native American style until Rosie broke from jail and BTTF.

It is simple, effective, and brutal all at the same time. And, don’t sleep on those jump squats. If you do them right, they hurt every bit as much or more than the other corners.

Several OG virgins today. Can’t wait to see if you all come back for the next edition – probably early December. Just look for Gumbo on the Q sheet at NoToll.

For those who want to track their progress, here is the spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-L8e9W24ygnU0suaGyKxzi1PgPqY1CBd57hLrKTZI-g/edit#gid=1717732871

    Announcements:

    • Happy Hour this Friday 5:00? at Diamond Billiards
    • Workout for Liv at the Alamo 9/16 at 0700. Check Slack for details and to get your shirt. Proceeds benefit the family.

YHC took us out in a ball of sweaty, stronger men. Great morning guys. Thanks for posting.
