12 SOJ faithful put on their bibs and bellied up to the table for a steaming pot of Gumbo. It was served up hot with the following side dishes and garnishes:
Start a mosey toward Mount Midlo just to raise some concern and get some mumblechatter going, then turn right and head to the front of the school for the disclaimer and COP, including:
THE THANG
Curb Crawls – bearcrawl across, 1 merkin, crawl bear back, 2 merkins. Up to 5 and back down to 1.
Touch A Tree — Slowsey down to the large parking lot for Touch A Tree – 4 rounds, escalating from 1 tree to 4 trees, no repeats. Partner alternates between Freddie Mercuries in the odd rounds and Hand Release Merkins in the even rounds.
Alley Work – 3 burpees to start for the run differential between the Yanks and Guardians – just for Nancy. Lunge to Door #5 and do 5 more burpees just because. Side Lunge for a bit and then mosey to the wall (say HEYYY to a few runners).
Wall Work – 3 rounds (I think?)
Field Work – partner up at mid-field and face your partner
Staying in 2 lines – Indigenous People’s Run to far end of the field and around the track back to the bottom of the hill
Triple Check – Partner 1 runs up hill and back, Partner 2 does flutter kicks, Partner 3 does shoulder taps.
Meet final group on their way down the hill (or Oyster at the bottom) and back to the Flag.
1 Burpee for Angela Lansbury and to get to full time.

Great job today guys. No More Gumbo For You!
11 challenge warriors answered the call to pay tribute to Old Glory and test themselves with a challenge checkup. Doozy and Rosie tore it up and everyone gave it their all. 1 mile; 20 minutes of OG 4 corners and 1 mile with modified native american runs, then BTTF and numbers, names and announcements. Great job gents.

That’s it folks – No More Gumbo For You!
14 All Stars (in something) descended on the the red dirt fields of Huguenot Little League for the 2022 Burpee Derby that actually turned out to be a HR Derby. Here is how it went down:
Congregate and sign up for batting order positions before 0530. At 0530, circle up in right field for COP, including:
On the line for some warmups:
Run a few foul polls – waiting for the light to join us a bit and then it was time for the SHOW
The rules – 3 swings (but feel free to wait for a good pitch). Anything other than a HR (over the fence in fair territory) is an out. 3 outs = 3 Burpees. 2 outs = 2 Burpees. 1 out = 1 Burpee. Let’s Play Ball
First 4 or 5 guys had the disadvantage of darkness (sorry, Doublemint, Snuff, OC, House Party and Posey). By the time Mr. Roper stepped in, there was no excuse. In any event, no HRs were hit until Rosie at #8, so that was 7 straight 3 out = 3 burpees for 21 burpees out of the gate.
The birthday boy launched 1 dinger. DTH followed up in the 9-spot with 1 dinger. Then it was back to a burpee fest for the next 4 guys. YHC hit last and launched 1 dinger as well. All in all, 39 burpees in round 1.
Tiebreaker round – Rosie, DTH and YHC each got 3 more swings and YHC beat Rosie 2-1 in the tiebreaker round.
Enough time was left for a lightening round – 2 swings per person. HRs were launched by Rosie (2), Snuff (1), Upchuck (1) and YHC (1). So Rosie won the lightening round – more affectionately knows as the Women’s Featherweight Division. Well done, Rosie. Your crown is being processed along with my Men’s Heavyweight Division belt. Am I mixing enough metaphors for you all?
Finally, some ending exercises on back in the outfield:

NMS – it was a glorious morning for a HR Derby, even if it was a little dark to start (sorry to the 1st inning batters). And, thank goodness we finally knocked some balls out of the park. And, thanks to Posey for tracking those down. Great fun as always. A lot of burpees and a good sweat going. Have a great day men. Make the most of it!
No More Gumbo for You.
Gumbo was a last-minute menu addition at SOT and 11 men (the bootcampers) were regretting placing that order immediately. They declared Gumbo’s SOJ banishment half-way through. The 4 runners chose wisely.
In any event, this is how the Gumbo was served today:
Mosey down to bus loop for COP, including:
Mosey around the side of school for the start of the THANG
Door #5 – 5 Burpees OYO
Door #6 – 6 2-count ball dippers
Wall Work
10 Donkey Kicks, bear crawl across road, 10 merkins, crawl bear back and wall sit
15 Donkey Kicks, bear crawl across road, 15 merkins, crawl bear back and wall sit
Mosey around the side and back of the school mixing in some lunges and Bob and Weaves, then down the stairs to the football field.
Field Work
Football Field – start on the end-line and run to bench (about 30 yards) and do 25 merkins, bernie back, run to trash can (about 60 yards) and do 20 WWIIs, mosey back, run all the way to the other end and do 50 SSHs and run back.
Baseball Field/Light poles – start in far right field – run across the field stopping at each light pole – at each tall light pole do 20 squats and 20 LBCs (though some heard YHC say WWIIs – extra credit for them!!). At each short light pole do 5 burpees. There were 3 tall light poles and 2 short light poles. Down and back.
Recovery mosey lap around the track
Jacob’s Ladder – after checking out he busted pipe spewing water (and DK going to make a non-emergency call to 911 – i.e., skipping Jacob’s Ladder), PAX lined up half-way up the hill for Jacob’s Ladder. Run to top do 1 modified 4×4 (really a 4×1) – down to plank position, do 4 mountain climbers and 1 merkin then pop up. Back to start, do 2. Repeato until 7.
BTTF for Mary (Freddies, Box Cutters, Swizzle Sticks and APDs)

Great start to the day. To the chagrin of many, this is will NOT be Gumbo’s last SOT Q. No farewell yet. Thanks gents.
No More Gumbo For You!
After a four-year hiatus, the SOJ Takeover brought Gumbo back to the Circus Menu. It was great to get back out to the Circus, throw some weight around and catch up with old friends. YHC is already sore. It went something like this…
No mosey, just circle up for disclaimer and COP, including:
THE THANG:
Modified Lindseys – mosey/waiter carry over to runner alley and line up on the curb. Waiter carry across the alley and do 30 swings and 10 sit and press. Waiter carry back, 20 and 20. Waiter carry back for 10 and 30. Note to self, 30 sit and press sucks! Moving on .
Wall Work – mosey/suitcase carry over to the school wall for:
Triple Check – partner 1 waiter carry under cover to middle of the school, 3 burpees and return. Partner 2, tricep pullovers. Partner 3 lunges.
Ring of Fire – circle up holding Al Gore with the bells. Rosie started with 10 shoulder presses, then 10 merkins and back to Al Gore. Next pax starts pressing when prior guys starts merkins and pass it around the circle.
Mary – 5 minutes of Mary, including Boat and Canoe, APDs, Freddie Mercuries, American Hammers and Superman.
BTTF, COT, Numbers and Names.
Announcements – Get out for the SOJ Takeover if you haven’t already to see some new or old faces.
Prayers for all PAX and friends/family members dealing with ailments and illnesses. Stay strong and push on!
NMS – Great to get back to the Circus – it has been a minute (or 4 years). Great to catch up with Attila, White Deer, Offshore, Pigskin, Lighthouse and White Snake who I don’t see often. It is definitely differing throwing weight around (well weight not permanently attached to my body at least) for 45 minutes. I need to work the Circus into my rotation more. Great mumblechatter and great work guys. Great morning overall, especially watching Offshore dominate with that 45 lb bell like it was nothing. Oh, and Bleeder – you can thank Rosie for leaving sweaty “Ws” all over the sidewalk. Free advertising!
No More Gumbo For You!
5 runners, 1 biker, 4 walkers and 2 furry friends toured the mean streets of Salisbury and the surrounding areas on this steamy morning. Runners got 5.5 miles including a few new holes on the golf course. FNG Dinky (David) held onto the pace for a mile or two (really 2.5) and then finished strong OYO.
Walkers were spotted on old Winterfield deep in conversation. A good morning had by all.
17 studs answered the call to test themselves and showed up to NoToll knowing (or they should have known) what was coming. OG is back, and it will be a regular (quarterly) thing at NoToll.
YHC was feeling generous so we started with a little COT stretching by the cars and then I grabbed Old Glory and off we went – back to the back lot and fields and twice around. Thanks to Rosie for taking OG for a lap. Old Glory was planted in the front field, the timer was set for 20 minutes and AMRAP 4 corners around the entire facility was the order. Corner 1 – 20 merkins. Corner 2 – 20 jump squats. Corner 3 – 10 burpees. Corner 4 – 20 WWIIs. Go until time is called. Then, meet back at the flag and 2 more laps – native American style and back to the cars.
Here is the link to add your laps for today: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-L8e9W24ygnU0suaGyKxzi1PgPqY1CBd57hLrKTZI-g/edit#gid=1717732871
Great work men!
COT, Numbers, Names and prayers.
Prayer requests for DTH’s sister (starting chemo), Juanita’s nephew, and the daughter of Radar’s friend. Add these folks to your prayers tonight and going forward. We all know there are more prayers needed then those that were spoken, so add a few extra too for the good of the cause. Lots of stress and anxiety going around and a lot of folks just feeling heavy with life right now. Keep an eye (and 2 ears) out, increase the patience and lend a helping hand or caring ear and shoulder when you can. Take care of each other.
No More Gumbo For You!
18 hungry men craving some Gumbo showed up for a 70 and sunny feast at the Fields of NoToll. Rumor had it Old Glory would be making an appearance, and it did…sort of. The flag was planted and this is what transpired…
Mosey to back lot and circle up for COT, including
SSHs, DQs, Helicopters, Copperhead Squats, Imperial Walkers, Tempo Merkins, Flutter Kicks and LBCs
THE THANG:
OG Walk-through – Gumbo wants everyone to be prepared, so we walked through the OG corners
Mosey to the Pavilion
Mosey back to basketball courts with some shuffles and backpedaling mixed in. And a bear crawl under the hypothetical gate that happened to be open today.
5 MOM:
BTTF, COT, Numbers, Names, Prayer
Moleskin
There has been a call to bring back Old Glory, and Gumbo will answer the call on April 12 (delayed just for you Bullseye!), and YHC will commit to making it a quarterly thing at NoToll. So get ready to test yourselves and see results. For today, it was a dry-run, walk-through of sorts and bro-code style. Props to Florence and Rosie and others who left no man behind today and Tclaps to Soultrain for pushing through and even starting off with some Broga today. Well done. Keep posting brother, you will see the results and the strength (physically and mentally).
Strong numbers today, gents. Keep it up. You’re on notice. Be ready 4/12.
No More Gumbo For You!
A strong 8 gathered in the relatively mild Friday gloom at Twin Team – a veritable crowd by recent TT standards. 5 were there to bootcamp and 3 were getting in some hill work in training for their upcoming Star City race. Here is how it went down…
Runners head to the namesake hill; Bootcampers mosey around back of BWES to the blacktop for COP, including:
DQs, Helicopters, Russian Soldiers, Imperial Walkers, Shoulder Taps, Merkins, and LBCs
Mosey down to the Swamp to start the action:
THE SUCK – birthed here many years ago when an awkward 5-some posted for a workout, it seemed time to bring it back. 4 Pax members spread out on the track about 10 yards apart and performed exercises while #5 (the rabbit and timer) runs.
ROUND 1 – Rabbit runs the track. When the rabbit returns we yell switch – one PAX member doing exercises takes off running, the others bearcrawl forward 10 yards and start the new exercise. Exercises were Freddie Mercuries, Star Jumps, Mountain Climbers and SSHs.
ROUND 2 – Rabbit runs the straight away and then back. Exercises were LBCs, Lunges, Shoulder Taps and Squats
Plank o rama to catch our breath and then off we go – Mosey to the covered sidewalk by the high school for:
EMOM – Every Minute on the Minute perform exercises, wall sit with jabs and upper-cuts to fill out the minute:
ROUND 1 – 2 Burpees, 20 Donkey Kicks, wall sit and punch
ROUND 2 – 3 Burpees, 20 DKS, wall sit and punch
ROUND 3 – 4 Burpees, 20 DKs, wall sit and punch
ROUND 4 – 5 Burpees, 20 DKs, wall sit and punch
Mosey through the parking lot back to BWES stopping at a couple lightpoles for some merkins and shoulder taps and doing the Bernie Sanders up the muddy hill.
Back at BWES under cover, it was time for 10 Minutes of Mary, including:
3 rounds of – 1 minute plank and a variety of crunches and oblique work, finished off with a minute of straight-leg twists or pulling the invisible rope.
With abs burning it was time to head BTTF. Runners returned for COT, numbers, names, prayers and out
Announcements:
Exciting 80s themed workout with movie quotes, hair-band songs and trivia tomorrow 0700 at Rock N Roll
Vinny returns with the Q at Dogpile tomorrow for what is sure to be a great beatdown.
NMS:
It was a great morning. Glad to see more than a couple folks at TT, even if 3 escaped the SUCK and went for a run. Apologies to the PAX for 10 minute ab-blaster, but YHC has a daily 10-minute ab challenge going with the fam and I needed to knock that out early today. Thanks for letting me lead. Always a pleasure.
No more Gumbo for You…til Tuesday (unless I get snowed into Charlotte Sunday night).
