  • Foggy Hot Potato

7 figures emerged from the early fog to gather for a much needed workout to find there was no Q signed up. Handshake quickly took charge and got the group warmed up in front of the school.

Improvising with what was available, Handshake had the group pair up for Catch Me If You Can with one person bear crawling around a circle of cones while the other did 10 Merkins then ran to his buddy. Another round with 20 WWII situps.

Mosey to Pemberton Elementary where again Handshake improvised quite well finding a stack of bricks. Each person grabbed two bricks and we did Merkins on the bricks then stood up and did presses overhead with the bricks. x1 Merkin/x4 OH Presses, x2/x8, x3/x12, x4/x16, x5/x20 and back down again.

Pucker took the Q and moseyed down to main MS parking lot for a variation of 11s. Using bus spaces, group OYO ran 3 spaces and did an exercise to one end of lot and back. 3 Copper Head Squats, then 10 LBCS and 10 2 count Flutterkicks at each stop.

Mosey to Blacktop behind MS for triple check. Actually did 4 rounds – Wall sit, LBCs and run backwards. Mosey back to flag for several ab exercises (Hello Dollys [?], Alabama Prom Dates and Flutterkicks).

FNG Frankie (came with Byproduct) shared his story and wearing a Steelers sweatshirt and professing his love of Pittsburgh was dubbed “Cleveland”. Welcome Cleveland.

  • Garden of Eden…Proper Attire Required

18 strong came out for a beatdown at the plush, well manicured lawns of Hugeonot Park for the Tuesday No Toll edition of the Tuckahoe Takeover.

    THANG

    SSH X25

    DQ X15

    Imperial Walkers X15

    Merkins X12

    Freddie Mercuries X15

Mosey to the Pavilion between the fields, Pair up then one partner does 10 box jumps on the bench while the other partner does LBCs.  Repeat 5 times so each partner does 50 box jumps.

Mosey to the adjacent field for a fitting game of croquet.  Three groups of 6 lined up in the tunnel of love and one man crawled through.  Start at the end line and repeat until group has made it across the midfield line.

Mosey to other field for a few versions of the ladder from end line to mid-field.

    Merkins 2-4-6-8-8-6-4-2

    Jump Squats 2-4-6-6-4-2

    WWII situps 2-4-6-6-4-2

Mosey back to basketball court for a triple check.  Balls the wall (or fence), elbow planks and run to the far side of the second court and back.  Repeat 5 times.

The pax then circled up to finish off with a ring of fire with 3 separate members doing 10 Merkins each for two trips around, then 3 burpees each for one trip around before wrapping up.

    Moleskin:

This was YHC first trip to No Toll (I had just traveled internationally so my passport was up to date) and was quite surprised at the green freshly cut fields of No Toll – it was like working out in your living room compared to some of the West End AO’s where the grass might be cut once a quarter.  Many of the pax were dressed in appropriate attire and would have been welcome at any cocktail party in Old Westham or anywhere along River Road!  Several worked out in loafers, bermuda shorts were worn and Gumbo even doubled down with the double Izod with the popped color.  Very nice my good man!

  • Mother Goose

In the absence of our usual leader Loose Goose, YHC took the Q for HBR (Heartbreak Ridge not Harvard Business Review).  Five braved the unseasonably cool conditions this morning for a good start to their day.

SSH X25 (some initial difficulty counting for your YHC), Imperial Walkers X20, Don Quixote X15, Flutter Kicks X15, Hello Dolly X15

Mosey to the hill at the end of the football field to make good use of this slope.  Paired up, with one running up hill to fence and back while teammate performed an exercise – 3 rounds for each exercise.  LBCs, Deep Squats, Merkins, Lunges, Alabama Prom Dates.

After having enough of the hill work, mosey to the basketball courts.  OYO 10 Merkins/1 WWII situp, run to far end 9 Merkins/2 WWII situps and continued until we got to 1 Merkin/10 WWII situps.

Mosey to the wall of the school by the parking lot for a Triple Check.  Wall sit, box cutters and run to the far curb and back.  We finished three rounds before moseying back to the flag for two rounds of ring of fire with Merkins.  Then finished with Merkin Hammers, Freddie Mercuries, Heels to the sky and flutter kicks.  Solid start to the day!

  • Change in Scenery (with a Church theme)

15 strong gathered (most on time) on a cool, relatively dry morning to get the lead out.  Here is what transpired…

    COP:  20xSSH, 20xHillbillies, 10xMerkins, 20xFlutterKicks

Mosey to Reveille Church back parking lot – the PAX paired up with one person running a loop around the parking lot while the other alternated between 5 box jumps and 10 dips, switching at each lap and doing 6 total rounds.

Mosey to the front of Reveille Church for Triple Check – deep squats, leg lifts (6 inches off ground) while third person runs backward to sidewalk and then forward back to group, rotate. Standard three rounds.

Mosey across Cary to to entrance of Windsor Farms at Windsor Way, formed two lines of 7 each for an Indian run with burpees added in stopping at the lawn in front of Grace Baptist Church.

On the lawn of Grace Baptist Church the OYO PAX did 6 rounds with increasing count (1 to 6)  of Burpees at midfield and LBCs at the ends.

Rally back to the flag with some chatter about a lot of running (those that ran Hillcrest the previous night were feeling it) and finish up with a Ring of Fire with the PAX all in plank position and two people doing 10 Merkins (also commonly known outside F3 circle as pushups, thank you Wedding Singer) and rotating around the ring twice.  Finished with a few minutes of Mary with LBCs and Freddie Mercuries.

    NMS::

Flashdance was a late arrival to the AO which meant he was OYO for the workout as he wasn’t able to find us despite his best efforts and keen mind. The PAX didn’t realize this until we rolled up on him as we returned to the flag. Flashdance shared that he found some new workout friends with the tomatoes. During the chatter with the tomatoes he was able to learn some of  the nicknames the tomatoes had given each other – Pinky, Hot Pants, Love Handles, Hest, Bovary and Mulva. Flashdance may make a permanent change in workout groups. If interested, please contact him.

  • Conducive Pre-Hurricane Conditions

21 strong posted for a perfect morning for a pre-hurricane Matthew workout.

    Our warmup consisted of…
    20 x SSH
    20 x Don Quixote
    20 x Deep Squats
    20 x LBC

The Pax then moseyed to the hard top to conduct a round of triple check (for 4 rounds
just to keep everyone on their toes) – balls to the wall, alternating elbow and hand
planks and then run forward to fence and backwards back to group.

Next up was a karaoke shuffle on the tennis court across the 4 courts – forwards,
karaoke sideways, backwards, karaoke sideways, backwards then repeat on each court.
We ran 2 rounds of this.

Then we moseyed to the field for 11s – everyone’s favorite. 3 rounds (burpees/LBCs, Lunges/Freddie Mercuries, Jump Squats/Pushups). During the 2nd round of the 11’s there was a discussion of possible transfer of the Q from YHC to Flashdance who was eager to provide additional beatdown for the Pax.  This was fueled by some confusion as to who would be Q today – the positive note was that we had too many Q’s (and not too few).

YHC transferred the Q to FlashDance for the remaining 5 minutes and the Pax did an Indian run back to the flag stopping along the way 3 times to do Flutter Kicks, Jump Squats and Carolina Dry Docks.

YHC was hoping that Flashdance would take on the duties of the backblast after taking the Q but unfortunately he passed the Q back to me at the end and thus my entry here in the backblast. Til next time!

  • Olympic Trials…

    COP
    42 x SSHs
    42 x Don Quixotes
NOTE: 42 is the number of events in the summer Olympics. Note there a couple of new events including 7’s Rugby, a must watch! We should try this for a workout.
    21 x LBCs
    21 x Flutter Kicks
NOTE: 21 is the number of American athletes who’ve dropped out of the Olypmics due to the Zika virus (this number may not be totally accurate).

    Triple-Jump
This may no longer even be an official Olympic track and field event but was a good way to test our skills. On the main field starting at one end, OYO, run two trees, perform a triple-jump (not sure anyone actually performed a true to form triple-jump but it was entertaining nonetheless) then do 10 Merkins and 10 American Hammers, repeat 5 times across the field. We came back across the field doing triple-jumps with 5 burpees and 10 LBCs at each stop. THe Pax (and I definitely) needed a 30 count rest after this.

    Relay
We moseyed to the track and formed groups of 5 (thankfully we had a nice easy number of 20). A man at each corner with one starting the relay run to the next station (corner). One corner was pushups, one corner was squats, one corner was burpees, one corner was dips. Each team did 3 laps and there was some good competition between teams with sprints between each station. YHC avoided full sprints as the last time I did that I nearly booted.

We finished strong with a ring of fire with burpees, Merkins and LBCs. See you in the gloom.
