  • Two guys running shirtless through downtown RVA

Two regulars posted for a variation on the standard downtown run. It was hot and humid. We saw Sugar Sock (as usual).

Any day now I’m expecting some new PAX to show up and earn that Summer Challenge point. We run every Wednesday at 11:30 from Broad and 12th (Governor). Hope to see y’all soon

  • Puddles

5 brave souls ignored the forecast and hit the roads this morning for Sunday Funday. Rosie and Shakedown started early and ran across the bridge, down Riverside, across the flood wall, down to Great Shiplock park and then worked their way back to Pumphouse Parking lot where they had their spirits lifted by seeing Saab, Hardywood, and OffShore who had done about an hour of shirtless road running. Rosie and Shakedown had some more to do so they pounded out three more for an even 15 – just under half of what they are gonna do at the NightTrain 50k at the end of the month. Slower hopefully ?

Great to see all you guys this morning if only for a second. Have a great Sunday!

  • Not as hot as Oklahoma

Shakedown and Swiper ran 3.2 miles across the river and back today in the muggy mid day haze. As per usual, Sugar Sock was sighted on a walk. Nothing much more to report though it’s always good to converse with Swiper.

    Come run with us soon

  • It’s not the heat, it’s the stupidity

85 degrees and 50% humidity greeted us today as three of set out for a (approximate) 3 mile lunchtime downtown run. We, being gloom warriors, are more used to pre-dawn conditions and we aren’t quite used to seeing the sun since it’s been hiding recently. Nevertheless we set off for a fairly standard run, though a little slow considering our attempts to acclimate and since Lab Rat isn’t feeling quite himself.

No speed records were set but it was nice to have Swiper along and to see Sugar Sock on the bridge.

The more the merrier so if you can, come join us next week.

  • First year of many

18 sunrise samurais cut through the humidity this morning in order to escape the fartsack to gather at WDog for Wednesday morning beatdown and it went a little something like this…

    COP:
Circle up in front of the Carillon SSH x 25
    Helicopters x 10
    Don Quixote x 10
    Imperial Walkers x 10 Russian Soldiers x 10 Merkins x 10
    LBC x 25

    The Thang:
Short theatrical mosey to the orchestra pit of the Amphitheater of Pain (most underrated Motley Crue album)
11’s – burpees at the bottom, V-ups at the top. Thanks for Kubota for the technically exquisite demonstration of a V-up
Native American Run to the bottom or Love Hill
11’s at the amphitheater took longer in practice than they did your humble correspondent’s (YHC) imagination so he improvised with everybody’s favorite…. Partner Carry w Booya Merkins to the rim of the Valley of Doubt.
Dive Bombing the Valley of Doubt – 3 dive-bombers on this side, 4 on that side, 5 on this side – plank. That was fun, repeato. Again – thanks Kubota for the demo.
Time is short so back to the flag for…

    Mary:
    LBC x 30
    6 inches x 20
    Alabama Prom Dates x 20 Hello Dolly x 20
    All numbers approximate

    Announcements:
Memorial Day Convergence – 7:00 at Tredegar. Bring a friend. Hot Potato Q for one hour. Second F to follow at ETs
Summer challenge starts Saturday. Phonics will post a pre-blast soon. Long and the short of it is that you aim to hit every AO this summer. Should be fun. Come to the convergence to get the bonus AO.
Lab Rat and Shakedown running at 11:30 like every Wednesday. Meeting Behind the Governor’s mansion – Text me if you want to meet en route (8043394365).

YHC took us out – Sugar Shack donuts and cold waters after

Ghost Flag: Since I won the GF repping SOJ I decided that WDog is neutral ground  – that being said, Richmond Proper had the numbers though Tuckahoe and SOJ came strong.  Vinny was kind enough to let me Q this morning even though he had his name on the Q sheet – since it was my 1 year he let me switch that out a couple weeks back  Vinny left with the flag today and has some fun planned.  Stay tuned

    Moleskin:
One year ago today, after being EHd by Viral, I posted for the first time at NoToll. It was raining and nobody seemed to notice. I liked that. I was hooked almost immediately. Over the last year F3 has become such an important part of my life that I can’t believe it took so long to find it to begin with. I wondered early if a freak like me would fit in with you gentleman of distinction and then I realized you are just a bunch of bozos like me (more or less). As I said in my prayer, I wake up every day grateful for another day and F3 is no small part of why I am grateful. Thank you guys for your hard work this morning and for doing what you do. I can be a bit of a cornball but screw it – I gotta be me. This thing we do is a blessing and we need to make sure we share it and keep it going for the next guy that needs it.
Have a great day guys!! See y’all in the gloom!

  • Train hopping hobos

8 fleet footed men and a puppers hit the trails on this fine morning. Most of us ran 8 ish miles well paced by Pyro who made his second F3 posting this morning and in strong fashion brought a FNG – John Cassily, 51 (respect) who runs Fleet Feet on Patterson which earned him the name Foot Locker. Welcome Foot Locker (sorry ?)and we hope you come back.

Lab Rat was already out this morning and was disc golfing by the time the PAX made it back to the parking lot

Pyro suggested th start a little different this morning so we headed through Pump House Park and we’re hoping to cross the tracks but there was a coal train (headed east from hauling away mulenberg county) and we’re forced to run the tracks a bit. Sally didn’t like the trestle we had to cross one bit. Sally’s pretty smart. Offshore was lagging behind and took a wrong turn once back on the trails but as he encountered fresh spider webs he realized he was going the wrong way, we scooped him up a few minutes later and we’re off down the trails.

If you’ve never been to Foushees Mill near TX Beach you should go check it out. Looks like a good place to take the 2.0s

Pyro is a professional race pacer and he read us well. Paced us around 10:42 and we stuck together (pushing it) almost the whole way. Well done men.

Great having Gumbo out this morning. TYA was notably absent – out of character, hope all is well. I’m sure it is. Saab’s been absent all week, special assignment I hear. I’m sure these guys will be back soon.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out. Have a fantastic Sunday gentlemen.

Ghost Flag at Hoedown tomorrow. Let’s get that thing SOJ!!

If you like long winded tales, ask me sometime about my short career as a hobo

  • And your name?..

6 men of honor and a faithful canine companion hit the trails this morning, one a little earlier than the rest. Basic loop, south to north. Rosie, Saab, and Shakedown added The Lariat. 7ish miles. TYA did more.

We pushed the pace a little this morning and it felt good. 2nd F was a hoot  thanks fellas

Don’t forget – Off Shore needs fluids

I included the link to St. Baldricks. I don’t really want to shave my head but I’m gonna ao whadda ya say?

  • Last cold Sunday

Six studly stations posted this morning for the last cold Sunday Funday of the season. 7 miles North to South across Belle Isle right side loop. Saab added FHP for 10, Bootleg turned back at the river for 6. The trails were in good condition, our pace was steady, and the conversation was top notch. Second F at ETs was sublime.

Prayers for Lab Rats family, prayers for everyone who could use some direction with big decisions

    Life is grand

  • I’m a real boy!

32 gloom warriors and 2 FNGs fiercely met the break of day this morning at Dogplie. It appears that Spring has sprung; new guys, Cotters welcomed back (good to have you back Posh), lots of Pax –  hopefully today’s turnout is a harbinger of good things to come.

Today was YHC’s virgin Dogpile Q and it went a little something like this:

COP: 25 SSH, 15 Don Quixote (bombed a joking jab at Flatline’s helicopters instead of windmills from No Toll – guess you had to be there ?), 15 Helicopters, 15 Russian Soldiers, 15 Coplerhead squats, 10 2 count Merkins, Wilson’s wife, Fudd’s wife, knees to elbows, lots of mumble chatter, done

Micro mosey to the top of the irregular quadrilateral (Wilson said it is decidedly not a triangle – he called it a rectangle but that’s not quite right either) for The Cooper: run a lap then back to the circle for 10 Burpees, 10 squats, 10 Merkins – run a lap then decrease exercises by 1, repeat on down to 1. This was what YHC thought was a good way to handle the volume of men but it went a little long so when most of the guys were done we scooped the six to move on to the next…

Form 2 lines for weaving Indian Run to the bottom of Love Hill. Cluster. However it served the intended purpose of transportation to the mission objective while keeping the Pax generally together.

Grab a guy roughly your size for partner carries to the stone steps. Go as long as you can then switch. Transition is 5 Booya Merkins.  Audible to scoop the six. We were running out of time.

No time for the planned pull-up / burpee 11’s at the Rusty Cage so straight to the amphitheater…

Box jumps to the top. 1 on first step, 1 on second. 2 on third, 2 on fourth – on up to 9/9 – regroup – mosey to the flag. Good times.

No time for Mary so numberama, namerama, 2 FNG’s – nice. Welcome woodworking FNG Rob Baker (Gepetto) and acountant FNG Bill Davis (Beansie). Lots of dissent and discussion including the realization that YHC is apparently not appropriately familiar with the required F3 film canon and hasn’t seen Caddyshack since he was an adolescent and had a vcr. No regrets but I will remedy and revisit that cinematic classic soon.

Anouncments – final weeks of Healing Place 10k training.  CSAUP is coming so plan accordingly.

YHC took us out with St Francis’ peace prayer.

Thanks guys for letting me lead this morning. Happy Easter.

  • Belmonte 2018

Three brave souls departed Friday evening for parts unkown, well unknown to YHC at least. All three met at Upchuck’s abode at the appointed time, went for a nice meal and a draft or two (beer, cider, and kombucha) at Blue Mountain and commenced to make new memories. After a good deal of riveting conversation at the generously provided digs – Flashdace could not be with us but still graciously hosted us at the Nestledown. Early to bed and earlier to rise we embarked to embrace our destines.

YHC is a firm believer in getting up extra early to allow time for a successful evacuation of yesterday’s detritus. Perhaps after today Honeydo might adopt the same strategy. He can fill in any additional details as he sees fit.

Breakfast (bacon included) and pre race hydration taken care of we were ready at the starting line at 0600, half heartedly listed to our instructions (orange good, pink bad, code words at the bottom of the hill..) and we were off. Upchuk’s loud shoes scared a young lady (we later discovered, the 100 miler veteran Kelly of Pennsylvania) into thinking she was caught in a stampede. She was a regular fixture in our adventures of the next four hours.

Down the parkway, down to the creek, up she short mountain, through the laurels we slogged until we reached Camp Marty. Best aid station east of the Pecos. Down the big hill, keyword Gopher and the. We headed back up and towards the warm food, wooden medals, and then on fire. 13 long miles in and around the creek crossing we finally split up. I looked at the time and thought I might have a chance to make the time I’d been assigned by Lab Rat and gave it all I had for the last 3.5 miles. Didn’t make the time but made it back uninjured (victory!) save a scraped shin from a semi successful log crossing. Soon all three mighty souls were reunited.

Back at camp we met TYAs friend Patrick, laughed about the guy on the group text (wait, what group text- I didbt see any group text??) who got pissed, and eventually got cold.

Surely there were many hints worth mentioning that were left out – being first back, the backblast fell to me. Hopefully it was semi coherent –  smoked.

    Good times
