  • Bikini Season is around the corner

Fourteen Fearless redwoods (including 1 FNG – Polly and 1 visitor Webelos from F3 Naperville) gathered on a purrfect cool morning to develop their physiques for upcoming bikini season. According to those standing around at the local cricket league it went something like this:

BTTF for a ring of fire.

    Seymour took us out

Welcome to FNG – Polly (nee Adrian). Polly was brought out by Webelos visiting from F3 Naperville. Originally from Birmingham, moved to Twin Hickory from west Chitown, into music and a former Rugby Union flanker. Several great naming alternatives including Susan Boyle.  We left the Twin Hickory themed Swinger and Lasagna Party for next time. Several Rocky alternatives came to mind as well. Finally, we settled on a Peaky Blinders theme – which Polly will now binge on as he has never seen it.

Polly is hardcore, and so is Polly – cigars and brown liquor on the horizon.

Prayer Requests: Lab Rat, Handshakes family, Lighthouse family.

  • Valley Forge – Blast Furnace

Had fun getting to know Spike and the rest of the PAX. YHC ran a little more than allowed on a bad wheel but we are recovering.

  • A little warm up in January – FOB Mission Trip

2 mighty PAX passed their covid tests and boarded a 6:10 flight to head to Honduras for a little warm up for the body and the soul.

There is something about helping others that are in need, often the one that is helped the most is yourself.

YHC has been trekking to Honduras for 6 years and has led 4 trips. The greatest joy is to bring new folks and this year we were lucky enough to be joined by Pigskin who is a natural for trips like this. Certainly he will echo that FOB is a well run organization and that the trip had a great balance of helping others, camaraderie, and growth of the soul.

FOB teams travel to remote villages and we provide medical, dental, vision, and vitamins for young and old with an emphasis on helping children and building stronger healthier communities.

The best part of this trip was getting to work with Pigskin throughout the week. We mostly worked together in dental. The experience of seeing teeth pulled makes one never want sugar again – at least not without a good toothbrushing after.

We talked about some 1st F, but frankly YHC did not adapt to the heat very well this time, feeling dehydrated all week. It wasnt even that hot: 65F – 83F. Luckily we only had one day of rain at the end.

Let us know if you want to know more about it or join an upcoming team. FOB runs 12 trips a year and they are always looking to round out a team with 1-2 more.

FOB has a virtual benefit April 29. Let Gomer know if you want more details or if you can sponsor or donate an auction item.

  • The bagpipes of St Patrick’s Day

PAX at 2d F included Honeydo, Faceplant, Flatline, Lab Rat, and Ronnie. Alas they missed Currahee but the out of towners did get free beer – all as promised.

NMS – Fun was had by all and different libations were on order after the first $8.50 Guinness. A pint of beer should be cheaper than a gallon of petrol.

Some PAX started a bit early to catch the first games of the NCAAB round of 64 Including the SpidURS who beat down Iowa. Go SpidURs!

We also made a friend from Minneapolis who was quite interested in UNC shellac-ing Marquette, but less so in F3. We wish him luck.

Imagine our glee when the Benedictine and Clan McLeod drum and fife bands showed up to St Patrick’s day. They played loud and great…. however… YHC’s new firm has software development offices in Belfast and while there are bagpipes in Ireland, at St Paddy’s Day is rather rare.

    Gitty up!

  • Probation needs your help! Get Some!

10 masters of their domain greeted a cool morning for a brocode run – Currahee’s band of brothers run as one on the final Friday of the month.

Route was the old standby: Ridgefield, Copperas, Church, Pump and the backside of the school for 4.5m.  Walkers took the Burnside, Glen Eagles, Ridgefield route for 2 miles.

Roger Roger took us out.  Prayers for Ukraine, soldiers and people impacted on the front line.

Announcements, HDHH Wed at PBR in daville.  Second anniversary of Currahee in nearly two months.

    NMS –

Great to see Probation for the second time in a year.  Truly.  He even made it out in two conditions that violate his sensitivities, rain and below 45.  Maybe he knows his MUFFIN is not going to melt itself. Maybe he fears that he will get renamed again lest the PAX disbelieve he is anything other than a FNG (Citadel?).  Is it courageous for Probation to admit that negative peer pressure from the PAX is a motivator?  He did make it clear that without Handshake’s post lights out brotherly text of admonishment, and nearly failing to represent the storied Institute, he would not have gotten out from the fartsack.

Well, YHC is not along is saying that we are better when Probation is amongst the PAX.

PAX in attendance, you heard it from the horses mouth: some people like to be motivated by admonishment, haranguement, threats, beratement, and cajoling…. ok men, you have your mission – get hot!

  • Currahee in the dark

Six stallions took down Currahee today for a cool morning run.

4.5 milers did Pump Three Chopt, John Rolfe.
2 miler did Pump, Falconbridge, Raintree to Maremont.

    Roger Roger took us out.

NMS – 2 mi group rather quiet – lost in thoughts of why backblasts take days to get done when not done right away. How many neighborhoods is this route, officially? Whatever happened to English basements? How is this route exactly 2 miles – who came up with this and other various ruminations.
There were a few discussions about why pax would HC a workout and then no show. Resolved. 1. that it happens to the best of us at times 2. A healthy ration of brotherly encouragement is warranted to avoid repeat performances.

    Get some.

  • takin’ it light

Four redwoods gathered in the gloom for a nice easy if cool run. 4 mile route Ridgefield, Copperas, Church, Pump. 2 mile route into Raintree and back.

    EF Hutton took us out.

NMS – Good to see EF Hutton out at Currahee. YHC is looking forward to getting moving a bit faster again.

  • Last brocode of 2021

Six showed to a spring themed brocode run.

4mi Route is Gypsy’s favorite: Pump, Church, Copperas, Ridgefield and return on Pump.

2mi Walk was out and back on Old Prescott and around MGHS.

    Handshake took us out

NMS – not a lot of chatter after due to us scooting off to 3d F. Ghost sighting from Splinter as a bag of shoes appeared mid workout. Pigskin and YHC discussed living abroad, balance exercises, and our upcoming Honduras mission trip – Super excited he is joining us!

  • T’aint no clipboard here

Six svelte west end stallions met for a nice tour on a feels much colder than 48F morning. Here is the route from the clipboard said:

IR Route was a little like this.

Still not sure what route Handshake took (or was planning), but sometimes thats what you get when you LIFO a running AO. ** Updated with handshake route.  This is a sturdy one.

Handshake took us out. Prayers for Upchuck’s M, GP’s M, and others at this time of year.

NMS – based on some past experience YHC breathed a sigh of relief when the overdue PAX made it back without any wrong turns. Route was a little long, but YHC was aiming to make it straightforward and its a great route with two fitness tests at the end. Definitely among YHC favorite Currahee routes. Accused of staging a clipboard Q, YHC is reminded that its 45 minutes of movement and that means that a 2 mi IR route is just fine and in fact suggested to increase workout participation.

Coffeeteria was fun with a lively conversation and maybe a few over explanations in our 2 hour marathon.

Merry Christmas to all. Reach out to friends that might be having a less than jovial Christmas. This is a tough time of year for those that are missing loved ones for the first time or that are feeling alone. Dont let anyone you care about feel like they are alone.

    Announcements

Triplish check, Chicken Peckers, Donkey Kick, run width of parking lot

    Ring of fire, Flutter Kick.

    Handshake took us out

NMS – great to be back out. The friendly Henrico’s finest offered to move, but YHC told them we would work around em. Maybe we will get one of those guys out for F3 someday.

Today featured some of the PT balancing exercises occupying YHC for the last four months. These are great for all the small muscles in the legs that dont get worked. PT sucks, but experience shows that run times and speed without injury improve dramatically. Personal Bests on long runs with scenery are something to look forward too.

Announcements: Gypsy is collecting shoes and suits.
