  • Did I miss the memo?

River Run party of one this morning. YHC admits he hasn’t posted here for few couple months, did I miss a memo about River Run being cancelled altogether? Appears it’s missing from the Q sign up sheet.

Anyway, Old School Tarrington route commenced for 4 milers.

  • Huguenot Trail Post-Blast

11 rose from their sacks and posted for a new(ish) route.

    From the pre-blast:

Everyone Start: bat cave, across bridge, head east/downriver to trail head entrance 100 yards from bridge on left

4 milers: Take the trail straight towards the river (see map below where it’s labeled Richmond, VA 23235), turn left at the intersection on the trails and follow the trail under the bridge over to the Huguenot Flatwater parking lot. Exit onto street at far end of the parking lot away from the river, turn left on road and the next left will send you back home on the bridge.

5 milers: before taking the trail head entrance, turn right up Oxford and then veer right onto Arrowhead up to Cherokee. Return back down to Riverside and the trail head entrance is on your right across the street. See 4 mile finish above.

6 milers: complete 5 mile route up above Oxford and Arrowhead to Cherokee before coming back down to take the trail entrance. Run the trail as described in the 4 mile route, and then upon exiting the Huguenot Flatwater parking Lot continue heading upriver/west on Riverside Drive to Waumsetta, turn around at Waumsetta and head home.

Great job, thanks for enduring a new path. Seemed it worked for everyone, no injuries and perhaps only one mistaken turn by Swiper down a plank road (literally planks next to the road). Will explore again when we all have headlamps attached. YHC appreciates Splinter and Pucker urging me to take the Q, and Saab with the route updates.

Condolences to Bleeder’s and Best Shot’s families. Our prayers are with you.

Bleeder, way to push that first mile, thought you were running with the 5s today! TYA congrats on completing the TN race.

  • Spider Run Pre-blast Route

UPDATED: Sharing this route early so planned runners can review prior to the wee morning hours. Routes below with a few map pictures. It should be light enough to run the trail, which is about 1/2 a mile in total. The trail has recently been leveled nicely with fill so it shouldn’t be a danger to anyone, and provides a route I can’t recall us running to date.

Trail portion of route where everyone finishes:

5s and 6s, before taking the trail entrance, take a right on Oxford and then Arrowhead up to Cherokee and return back down to the trail entrance across Riverside.

6s: After exiting the trail, take a right on Riverside and run to Waumsetta, return back to bridge and home

  • The Way of Our Other Fathers

Sorry PAX, I typed up and published the normal backblast but upon review later on all I see if the a black and white American Flag and no backblast. So here it is in full-

16 strong arrived and departed RAMM for their desired morning exercise.

    Long run – Patterson(ish)
Short Run – east on Grove, 4s turn at Malvern, 5s turn at Roseneath, and 6s we don’t care, there were none today. Everyone return past the point of beginning and west up to Three Chopt, return to point of beginning.
Cyclists – everywhere for 45 minutes.

Way to go PAX. Welcome Will for his first outing, Bodos head locked him from church. YHC noticed the foreign tags looking lost trying to find our parking lot. The run today was a simple one, the way of our other fathers who ran east on Grove to a specific spot of mileage and then all touching Three Chopt. YHC can recall being a common run back in the day, which as a Friday in case you were wondering which day that was. Something easy for a new guy who likely would be running faster than myself.

FNG Will was tentatively titled Red River for his Oklahoma ties. Hardywood would like to voice some late recommendations with some I just don’t see fitting a nice fella like Will – Noodler, Fister and Pig Shop (yikes!). Mr. Wood’s other consideration is Noodles which sounds a little more appropriate. All proposed names are tied Oklahoma’s title of being the capital of Noodling. So YHC would open up to see if Noodles is preferred over Red River, otherwise Red River it is. Comment in the comment section for further consideration.

Juneteenth on the calendar today, hope everyone enjoys the new holiday. Thanks to Bodos for taking us out.

    Time to pullout.

  • Fudd’s Going Away Party #42

Runners, bikers and one fishing mother F’er commenced for the exercise of their choice.

4, 5 and 6 mile Running route – reverse Carillon.

F3 RVA’s prodigal son returns. Good to see you back Fudd, enjoy the vacation. We’ll throw you another going away party upon your return. Better yet, let’s get Toga back and have Fudd throw him another going away party. It’s the gift that keeps on giving Clark.

Way to work men. With no Q on the sheet, reverse Carillon it is.

  • Monumental Run

15 strong came out to endure some early summer heat and exercise.

Short route – negative splits. East on Grove, north on Arthur Ashe, east on Monument. Turn at 23 minutes, back in 22.

Long route – heard a couple different versions, TYA didn’t want to think so he went east and came back west. Swirly and BT ran the long Carillon route YHC believes.

    Gears – somewhere and return.

Today’s route was designed to obtain some peaceful reflection on the events of the past week or two while visiting a few of the sites the way F3 does it, with vigor and purpose. Hope everyone enjoyed their morning exercise.

Congrats to Bleeder for completing 100 miles in a month, and for TYA, Lug and others making their way across Tennessee. Impressive.

  • Phase I Commence: Serpentine

12 runners braved the heat and beat the pavement.

    Serpentine route:

Everyone – Right on Grove, left on Hamilton, left on Hanover, run to the road ends (D street maybe). Take a right and next right on Stuart, run until it deadends at Hamilton. Take a left on Hamilton and left on Kensington.

4s – turn left back up Commonwealth to the school.

5s – take Kensington until it deadends again, turn right up and run up the little alleyway until it turns to Leonard (?) and right on Commonwealth back to the school.

    Long run Pax- TBD.

Felt like the heat of summer today boys. Hopefully we get a few cooler days before this becomes the normal. Good to see some of the regulars back out after a long absence – Lab Rat, Lug Nut, Shakedown.

Prayers to Shake as he heads off to surgery Monday.

Tclaps for TYA’s sister who survived the Rona at 103 and slugged back a cold one to celebrate. And yes, of course she’s a Masshole.

  • Privilege

11 posted for a wet one.

Long distance runners – Patterson route.

Short distance – Commonwealth to Monument, head east on Monument. Take a right up to Grove depending on your chosen distance, return Grove to Commonwealth.

Great job men, nice warm wet morning for a run. Thanks to Pucker for keeping YHC’s speed up. Welcome Swipe Right, or as us more cynical folks call Stalker.

TYA took us out with an inspiring adage that we are privileged to do what we do, and not merely forced to or have to. That led us to a discussion on Yankee Johnson from UT, more commonly known as Inky Johnson. Check out the video.

Memorial Day MURPHs at Dogpile, Twin Team, and Hoedown. 6:00 AM start, see various backblasts for more information.

  • Even Oaks Must Bend

9 OGs took a page out of TYA’s workout manual for the Spider Run this morning.

Route – run up past the Robins School to Camps Drive up the hill of Towana, across Three Chopt to the access road. Left on Grove.

4s – Singer and Pucker turned just shy of Oak and return to point of beginning.

5s – Turn right on Oak up to Cary and return to point of beginning.

6s – continue past Oak to Mumford and return to point of beginning.

Where’s Saab? Oh he started at 3:00, he’s still running. I must say well played Swirly throwing the numberama ‘1’ out there without a Q on the page. TYA getting his extra in to Malvern. Bleeder working through some back pain. Hitch burning it up. Hutton your Q next week, I heard you call it.

Great morning for a run, barely a car in sight. Love the downhill ending, almost makes up for the uphill start!

  • Case of the Mondays

Pax of one for River Run. With rain in the forecast for the third straight week it may have been another no-show but YHC decided to make sure that streak ended.

4ish milers – head south on Robious, left at shopping center towards Independence Golf Course. Left and loop around neighborhood. Return by the high school with some added bonus areas.

5 and 6 mile routes – negative captain.
