    PreBlast: F3RVA Field Day 2018

    Field Day

At the June 16th DogPile for YHC’s DogPile VQ we are having a full blown field day – F3 Style. As part of the lead up, I’m asking each of you who plan to participate to wear a t-shirt that best represents your elementary school years. The t-shirt can either be from your school, for you life long RVA types, or can highlight the era. Scower local thrift stores or ebay for your wears. There is a loose $5 limit. Don’t go nuts on cost. You can also make your own t-shirts. For those of us who attended elementery school the 80’s, that’s definitely a thing. Other accessories are also welcome.

    Ghost Flag

The Ghost Flag will be up for grabs at Field Day. This will be a competition format and teams will be selected on that day.

Let’s drum up some numbers and see if we can get 40+

In the mean time, here’s a little inspiration

  • Pre-Blast: Puppy Pile, May 19, 7:00 a.m.

  • F3RVA Century Classic

    F3RVA Century Classic

Disclaimer:  Welcome to the F3RVA Century Classic.  This is a peer led workout.  None of us are certified instructors.  The details below will allow the opportunity for you to push yourself but please do not hurt yourself.  Much of this CSAUP will be executed overnight and on roads with varying traffic.  It is up to you to take the proper precautions for reflective gear and visibility accessories.  They are highly recommended and potentially required for participating in this CSAUP.

Having said that… announcing… the F3RVA Century Classic.  Many of you have heard the rumors about this spring’s CSAUP.  Well, here are the details:

    When:  April 13 – 14, 2018.  Yes, Friday the 13th.
    Where:  Every AO
    Start:  7:00PM
    End:  ~10:00AM
    Distance:  ~100 miles

The route is pictured above, starting from Dogpile, meandering through Daville, Richmond Proper, Tuckahoe, Short Pump and SOJ before heading back to a finish at Dogpile.  Details will continue to be flushed out over the coming months but preliminary routes are planned.

Teams will be any combination up to 9 people and it will be a relay race.  The initial suggestion is to organize by nano-region.  However, some nanos may have more and some may have less than the desired number of people.  You are all smart PAX members and will figure out how to make it work.  Also, there are no stipulations that runners have to remain in sequence.  In other words, if there is a new runner on your team that wants to take the shortest two legs, go for it.  We want this to be as inclusive of an event as possible.  FNGs and Kotters welcome.

There will be consideration for bikers as well.  The non-corporate event planning executive committee has a few ideas for how this may work.  If you are a biker and want to participate please reach out and offer suggestions.

This is also the weekend of the Monument 10k.  We have taken that into account when planning the routes, hitting the northern AOs first and clearing out well before those festivities begin.  What that means is there is an opportunity to double dip by running some early legs in the relay and stroll up to the 10k and finish it off.  Double dip credit to anyone pursuing that challenge.

Since this CSAUP will hit every official AO in the region, each region will have the opportunity to choose 1 AO in their region as a “fun stop” (official name TBD).  The choice and details are at the discretion of the region.  This could be a team challenge that has to be accomplished at the stop, a riddle that has to be solved, a ridiculous selfie that must be posted to the twitterverse… any and all ideas are welcome here and should remain a secret until race day.  Start the creative juices.

Rosters will be managed by individual team captains.  Individuals that wish to participate but are not aware of the teams can reference the following spreadsheet:

    Rosters:  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WFI-ggmeWUZKJDwLyO6zmb6mkW2MT0aPDAXNrKFEqYM/edit?usp=sharing

Alas, YHC would be remiss to announce this CSAUP without posting the details of each leg.  Route, distance, and elevation are included.

Stay tuned for more details but in the meantime enjoy!

  • Pre-Blast: Richmond Community Toolbank Hammers & Ales 10/7!

Pre-Blast: Richmond Community Toolbank Hammers & Ales 10/7!

Gentlemen! YHC is proud to serve on the Richmond Community Toolbank‘s board along with Lightning Rod and we need your support for a little Second and Third F this Saturday evening for our annual fundraiser called Hammers & Ales.

This Saturday at 6PM the Toolbank will have beer from Stone Brewing, barbecue from Buz & Neds (with plenty of other food) along with the MoDeBree Band for a celebration of the good work the Toolbank has done over the last year providing tools to enhance the charitable sector’s capacity to serve, facilitating hands-on volunteerism in the greater Richmond area. What’s better? $35 of the ticket cost can be counted as a charitable donation! It’s a win-win-win!

So far, YHC knows Lightning Rod, Loose Goose, Lab Rat & YHC will be there (with our Ms) so please come and make a date of it!

    Buy tickets HERE.

Or call/text Viral at 914 886 8109 for more details. Thank you and see you there!

  • November Merkin Challenge

    November Merkin Challenge

It’s almost November.  That means mustaches will begin to proliferate.  I can’t think of a better pairing for a mustache than swolled up shoulders and arms.

The baseline is 5k for the month.  That translates to 167 merkins every day for an entire month.  You can guarantee there will be a few merkin ladders sprinkled in throughout the month to help you reach your goal.  Modify your baseline as you see fit and pass this along to others that may be interested.

    Push yourself.  Don’t hurt yourself.

  • November Breathing Challenge

    November Breathing Challenge

All pax and family members are invited to participate in a monthly breathing exercise challenge for November.  Please note that this is NOT to take the place of our traditional November merkin challenge, rather to complement it.  Directions and video tutorials are on the spreadsheet.

YHC is using this as a way to dive in to meditation and breathing exercises, so if there are knowledgeable pax out there, please share your tips and strategies.

  • Pre-Blast: 2nd Hour Saturday Launches October 21

    Pre-Blast: 2nd Hour Saturday Launches October 21

YHC has heard lots of mumble-chatter recently (Gomer Pyle, Shake Down, Hardywood, among others) about starting a 2nd hour workout on Saturdays about once a month.  No time like the present.

Launch date will be October 21, 2017, for Double Dog (permanent name TBD).  YHC has the Q for Hour 1.  Anyone interested in the 2nd Hour of Power should plan to stick around after Dog Pile.  Basic plan will be to finish up Dog Pile (COT, etc.), take 5 or so to re-fuel, and start the 2nd hour about 7:10 a.m.  YHC will take the Q to start followed by a Hot Potato.  Anyone interested in Q-ing part of the workout, drop me a line.  Finish up about 8.  ET’s to follow.

This is – coincidentally – a 3rd Saturday (2.0 friendly workout day).  For those interested, let’s plan to hold the workouts at the same time, but separately, for now.  Final decision on holding Double Dog on a Saturday other than the 3rd weekend of the month will be forthcoming.

Anyone with an up-coming Q this week or next, please share during Announcements.

  • Pre-Blast: Learn To Brew day at Lab Rat’s

Pre-Blast: Learn To Brew day at Lab Rat’s

    Pax,

After the convergence, Helix and I will be making a beer together at the Ratskeller.  I have no other plans, and minimal beer, but I have a grill and a grocery store nearby.  There will be at least one set of corn hole, possibly the unveiling of another…depending on if Ronaldo works as fast as he runs.

All are welcome, ’cause my wife is out of town!  I will give the downstairs bathroom a once over in case she finds out about this.

We will be kicking off by meeting at Original Gravity (in Lakeside, by Lewis Ginter) at 10:00 a.m. to gather ingredients.  We will then mosey over to my house to start the brew day.  Weather is going to be gorgeous!  Swing by for a minute or the afternoon.
