    Breakfast club kicks off at 6:30.

    May 8 is the anniversary of VE Day in 1945. For YHC, I think about what those men and women did as they worked across Europe and ended a World War in less then a year. From my perspective we can workout for a full day to honor what they did.

    Its also the 3rd anniversary of the start of Currahee.

    AND not everyone can do a BRR extended weekend so wanted to do a local CSAUP.  Looking at you Hardywood.

    This is the overall concept and timeline for May 6:
    6am ruck.
    – Headlamp highly recommended
    – You vs you on weight. 45# is the GrowRuck / Army standard
    – SP is at 6 and lifos will have a tough time catching us; Be early
    7am Bootcamp – convergence. 45 min.
    8am loops – 4 PAX Relay Teams
    – 5, 3, and 4 mile loops for a total of 12 miles per runner. Each team has 3 runners.
    – Each team of four should have one walker. Walker will do a 2-3 mile route taking about the same time as the runners (ie a little longer during the 5 mile loops).

    Open to the public to create some awareness about F3. Have folks you talk to contact me for team signup or fill out the Q sheet for them. 

    Special recognition for those that do it all.

    Location: Godwin High School. Big parking lot. We dont have access to facilities, but there is a dunkin down the road. Bring race food

    Breaking Bread Transition

    To the Men and Families of F3RVA,

    The time has come. For about 5 years (give or take), YHC has led the PAX effort with The Southside Health Center, an AO also known as “Breaking Bread.” It’s a simple place with a big heart. Through your generosity, F3RVA has provided a delicious, homemade dinner to the guests, each of whom is recovering from a medical illness, injury, or other issue. Most of us do this activity alone or with our families, albeit knowing The Pax is behind us. For those prone to entirely unnecessary and grammatically inappropriate capitalization, you all have made an Impact. In the word of YHC’s friend Swirly, “Boom!”

    Thank you to each of you for making this happen. YHC would like to thank HoneyDo for bringing YHC into F3RVA and later inviting YHC to his first Breaking Bread event. “We” made tacos, meaning HoneyDo made taco beef, hot cheese, onions, tomatoes, hard and soft shelled tacos, and who knows what else. YHC made a simple salad, which, if YHC recalls correctly, was not (ahem) popular with the residents. “Salad is not popular with this crowd. They are not rabbits,” Ron Swanson HoneyDo reminded me. It’s possible YHC brought drinks, but that’s missing the point. HoneyDo encouraged YHC, taught YHC the basics, and demonstrated first-hand to YHC how easy it is to make an Impact. A good time was had, people were fed, and all left with full hearts. 

    Fast forward a year or so, and F3RVA had a need for someone to put a little bit of time into recruiting Brothers and their families to share their time, money, and generosity with those who need a helping hand. Remember, there is no site Q for Breaking Bread, no titles, no funding, no structured management, and no rule book. It’s 100% you all volunteering, cooking, and leading. Your energy and generosity are the entire ballgame. YHC is proud of each of you who have stepped up. YHC thanks each you.

    YHC also wants to thank Rosie. At the beginning of the pandemic, YHC was wondering how F3RVA would continue to fill one Sunday night a month, which at times had been a challenge. Rosie said, “Why don’t we do 2 nights a month? The Goodman’s will take the extra 12 nights if other guys don’t step up.” Boom. Expansion. And, many of you all stepped up. In the past 3 years, we have never had a challenge filling 24 slots per year, including Christmas Eve, Christmas, Thanksgiving weekend, and Memorial Day weekend. A number of you have been regulars, and YHC appreciates your dedication.

    On a personal note, many of you know that my dad grew up very poor and at times without enough food. Feeding people is very personal to YHC. You all have made an Impact which I suspect few of us who have plenty are able to understand.

    And, with that, 5 years has gone by quickly. It’s time to turn over the reigns to new leadership. YHC’s friend, Oyster, asked last summer to take on a role helping with Breaking Bread. Oyster is ready to lead. Starting January 1, 2023, Oyster will be The Man running Breaking Bread. Splinter has opened the sign-ups, which are on the 2023 Q sheet (far right hand side, 4th Saturday and 4th Sunday of each month). YHC will still be around, making dinners for BB with his 2.0s and M, and, for sure, prodding folks from time to time to help out. YHC appreciates your support, generosity, and efforts (and those of your families) over the past 5 years. And, going forward, YHC continues to thank each man in advance for your contributions.

    Looking forward to seeing everyone for the 8 year convergence at 0730 at GridIron!

    Key tasks

    1. Bring your shovel flag.
      • If you dont have one, we are going to have a workshop in the next few weeks.
    2. We will have coffee, gatorade, and bagels after the workout.
      • Venmo Gypsy or myself if you want to cover part of the cost.
      • probably could use another cooler with ice.
      • If anyone wants to bring anything else, let me know
    3. No worries if you miss this detail, we should park in front of the school if we can.
      • The Tuckahoe Tomahawks have football with setup starting at 8. So it will be a little busy. To get to that lot you need to take the very first right to the school coming from Short Pump, right after kid med.
    4. Even if you are IR or cannot make the workout, we would love to see you out there at 830.
    5. Contact PAX you have not seen for a while. This should be like a homecoming.
    6. Reply in Slack for HC so that we can get an idea of the size of the PAX.

    Preblast – Tomato Run will be at Virginia Center on Thursday, July 28.

    Want to running challenge? On Thursday, July 28, the Tomato Run is going to be at Virginia Center for the hill challenge. PAX member should park at Buffalo Wild Wings at 1090 Virginia Center Parkway, Glen Allen. From there, the PAX will run down Virginia Center Parkway for 1 mile to Village View Parkway. Village View Parkway has a median and goes downhill for 1/4 mile and then uphill for 1/4 mile. The Marathon Training Team using this hill for training. Most PAX members will run 3 – 6 hills and then return for the 1 mile easy jog back to Buffalo Wild Wings. Contact any DaVille Pax member for questions.

    Backblast Comments Are Now In Slack

    Slack is becoming a larger part of F3RVA. In order to consolidate comments to a single platform, we are shifting all comments to slack. Comments have been disabled for all posts and WordPress.

    If you need a login to Slack or need assistance with how to use Slack, please reach out to Splinter or your friendly neighbor at your local AO for more information. Anyone can grant access to new users in Slack by adding them directly into Slack.

    We will trial this for a while before considering moving additional functionality to Slack in the future.

    Where: Huguenot Flatwater Boat Landing

    Why: Because it’s fun!

    One Hour Workout with Coffeeteria after at Starbucks

    We will push off no later than 5:00am

    Looking forward to seeing everyone for the Memorial Day convergence!

    Details below but first three requests!

    1. Reach out to folks that you have not seen in a while and encourage them to come.
    2. We would love to see the entire PAX for coffeteria afterwards.

    3. Bring your shovel flag.

    Rucking starts at 0600.

    Beatdown at 0700.

    Best parking is at the lot next to the Belle Island access. If that fills up you might need to park up the hill a bit. Plan on extra time to get down there. Anyone coming in hot might be challenged to find parking depending on turnout.

    Like in years past we will do an all PAX COP, split into groups, gather back together to move to the war memorial for a moment of silence to honor our fallen brothers, and then back down the hill for Namerama and Coffeeteria.

    This is a great time to bring out FNGs so reach out to folks!

This bootcamp is for YOU AND YOUR KIDS, and will happen monthly May-Sept kicking off at the conclusion of Rock&Roll’s COT, or about 8AM.
