  • Pre-Blast – Return of the Frozen Triangle

Nothing on the calendar in January? Looking for an excuse to hit some new AOs? Never participated in a homegrown F3RVA CSAUP? Want a morning of 1st and 2nd F wrapped into one? We’ve got the answer to all of these questions and more, the Frozen Triangle.

The cold weather is now upon us and with it brings the return of RVA’s own CSAUP, the Frozen Triangle. January 21, 2023, 6am at Dogpile, we all know there is nothing else going on at that time of day on a Saturday in mid-January. Go ahead and put it on your family shared calendar, set aside your bag balm and chafe free shorts (SOP), tell your M you’ll be back late, your kids they’re on their own for breakfast, plan to let your dog out before you go because you are not going to want to miss this one.

We’ll travel between three (Triangle) AOs by your method of choice (run, bike, drive, rent a scooter…), workout, repeat a couple of times with provisions provided along the way. Replenish the tank with some 2nd F food and drink upon returning to Dogpile. This is open for any and all PAX to participate in some or all of this one of a kind event. This is not an annual F3 tradition in the mold of the Forest Hill Loops, F3 yearly anniversaries, or holiday convergences. It’s better because you don’t know whether this will ever be done again so you shouldn’t miss out on this one with hopes that next year will be your year.

If you have any questions about how much fun you will have or how many FNGs you should bring, ask any one of the 44 previous participants in the original Frozen Triangle or check out the backblast and comments – https://backblasts.f3rva.org/2017/01/22/inaugural-f3-rva-csaup-and-its-not-even-noon-yet/ No really you should check out the backblast, Saab is a Hall of Fame BB author, alongside DK and Marv.

More info to follow as we get closer to the big day. Anyone looking to help out should get in touch with Gumbo or YHC and we’ll be happy to dole out some tasks. We’re so good at passing things off to others Honeymoon doesn’t even know that he has volunteered to supply water for the event.

Looking forward to a morning of mumblechatter, fun, with some 1st F mixed in.

    Happy Thanksgiving to All!

Shameless plug – December 20, No Toll – Annual 12 Days of Christmas workout – don’t miss out.

  • Poncho and Lefty….and Fudd

Six ruckers on a mission launched out from Hoedown laden with the spoils the Pax had left. Pigskin was nice enough to see us off and offer his support. The group dispersed in rotating pairs of two for chatting along the way. The lights of UR at night are outstanding with the reflections on the lake.

When we arrived at Spider Run, the parking lot was vacant of food, so we picked up the bat cave and trekked into the gloom. One deer sighting, though many more probably spotted us.

The holiday lights of the River Road Shopping Center we aglow welcoming the festive spirits. One of Henrico’s finest had radar set up and pulled someone right in front of us as we made our way to Westham Station.

Up the hill to First Watch where collected both donated goodies but also some distilled goodies courtesy of Handshake. Off we went back through the suburbs where Fudd thought he could collect more canned goods by banging on the door of a friend’s house. Turns out that they were not home and a little kid answered the door. Stranger Danger! and off we went.

Back to Hoedown to consolidate our donations and close out the night by the fire pit.

The folks at Midas (who have a permanent collection site for the Food Bank) were super helpful unloading this morning as we filled up the majority of one of those large donation boxes.

Thank you Pax for your contributions and for making a difference in many people’s lives this holiday season!

  • Second F3RVA open discussion; next one 7p 6/27

Six PAX met to discuss a variety of leadership topics this time with most conversation around Freed to Lead now that some of the PAX are reading it for the first time. If you have not read this book, its a good time to do so to find out more about the founding philosophy behind our movement.

We discussed regional expansion and thoughts on a timeline for establishing leadership.

We also found out that EF Hutton wants to run a HDHH on a day other than Wednesday. More to follow.

    Recording info on slack.

Remember this is an open conversation about leadership and topics that impact our region. Comments from the PAX attending are welcome.

  • First Slack F3RVA discussion; next one Monday 6/20 at 7p

Seven met virtually for the initial leadership discussion topics including. All are invited.

    • Float more copies of Freed to Lead amongst the PAX. Re-read if you have not for a while. 1 week reading challenge.

NMS – There is a balance YHC is seeking… both ready to come out of the gate with direction, but want to provide the opportunity for the PAX to provide opinions and thoughts on where F3RVA should go. Feel free to text or post topics on Slack. Come to the the next discussion 7p on Monday. Think about what you want for F3 and lets discuss.

    Actions

    • Q – publish an agenda to drive thoughts about topics
    • PAX – Encourage folks to use Slack

    • PAX – Read Freed to Lead as the basis for our common vocabulary

    Get Some!

  • The bagpipes of St Patrick’s Day

PAX at 2d F included Honeydo, Faceplant, Flatline, Lab Rat, and Ronnie. Alas they missed Currahee but the out of towners did get free beer – all as promised.

NMS – Fun was had by all and different libations were on order after the first $8.50 Guinness. A pint of beer should be cheaper than a gallon of petrol.

Some PAX started a bit early to catch the first games of the NCAAB round of 64 Including the SpidURS who beat down Iowa. Go SpidURs!

We also made a friend from Minneapolis who was quite interested in UNC shellac-ing Marquette, but less so in F3. We wish him luck.

Imagine our glee when the Benedictine and Clan McLeod drum and fife bands showed up to St Patrick’s day. They played loud and great…. however… YHC’s new firm has software development offices in Belfast and while there are bagpipes in Ireland, at St Paddy’s Day is rather rare.

    Gitty up!

  • Punisher Partner

What a truly wonderful sunny and 70 degree afternoon we had for Punisher. YHC was excited to have a gang to test a new workout routine to wrap up the Monday for this week. Rolled into the parking lot with alot of text updates of folks not going to post and I see a lone brother in the name of Upchuck stretching and getting ready. 6pm rolls in, it’s just up to us to get going so we decide to do the COP…While running a couple of laps we discuss earlier workouts from the morning (Peloton for CB and and Splinter’s Block part at Hoedown for UpChuck)…and with the low numbers nice evening thought Bingo Beer was a great audible. First the COP

    COP

We stop at the start point of our 2nd lap and perform 20 SSH, 10 DQ’s, 20 LBC’s, 10 scorpions and 20 merkins.

I throw the Q to Upchuck and we follow one another to Bingo Beer. He treats with 2 beers and 2 appetizers. Good beer, great apps and nice catching up with an F3 brother from another nano region!

Hope to see you in the gloom soon gents. Thank you, Upchuck. Cheers….CB!

  • 2-10 Ramp Build

    2-10 Ramp Build

Corned Beef, Mr Rogers, Tryhard and Hitchhiker

Last Thursday 4 brothers converged with Project Homes and their volunteers to build a Ramp for a Chesterfield Resident in need. Weather was great and we finished before 11:30am. We will have more dates later this spring including a weekend date! Please contact Corned Beef if you are interested and thank you to Mr Rogers, Tryhard and Hitchhiker for your time and effort on this ramp. Have a great week!

    Cheers….CB

  • Ramp 1 F3 RVA

    Ramp 1 F3 RVA

We had our first ramp build with the F3 RVA group and some reinforcements from NewEastern Construction (Ryan Primm, Eduardo Torres and Antonio Mendoza). With the cold temperatures the build started an hour later, but that did not matter as with the motivation and skill of this group we finished the two ramps and packed everything up for the photo shoot by 11:15 am! This ramp was special as it is for a young man (Samar Lemons) who was crippled in a High School football game. The project homes team scheduled this to make sure it was completed prior to the family moving in this weekend. His mom is pictured with us and she teared up when she saw the American Flag as her son wanted to join the Army after graduation from High School. Completed Ramp below:

  • Breaking (ginger) “Bread” – Stout that is

15 men, a few M’s, and several 2.0s converged on Hardywood for a 2nd F opportunity to combine our donations for the clothing and shoe drive yesterday. It was a strong showing that came to discuss leadership, giving, and along the way throw back a few Gingerbread stouts in standard F3 fellowship fashion.

    The Thang-

Show up with donations for the Karatas clothing and Shood shoe drive. Get in line, grab a beer, and enjoy the company of like minded men and their support teams (Ms and 2.0s). Mosey to a table that we couldn’t seem to get long enough for everyone. 100 mug raises to mouth, mosey to fire pit 100 more, mosey near the windows, 100 more. Time was called.

Gentlemen, I couldn’t be more happy to have seen such a strong group show up and be willing to give to others in need. We have an incredibly strong group of leaders in the community and it was great to break bread with you all and absorb your perspectives on life and leadership. Several of you I met for the first time, and others I had the chance to get to know even better. Iron sharpens Iron and I appreciate each of you for giving some of your time to each other and the cause. We will post a final tally once we have it all weighed and sorted, but initial estimates look to be over 400 lbs of clothes and over 60 pairs of shoes. T-claps and appreciation to you all!
