  • An Elite 8 Battle the Darkness at Batteau

What a gorgeous August morning for a beatdown and 8 men posted to Batteau to see what Gumbo had in store. It was dark, but I think it went something like this:

Mosey one lap around the circle to wait for Hitchhiker to get his gear together, then pick him up on the mosey over to the Farmer’s Market lot for COP, including:

    • DQs
    • Helicopters
    • Imperial Walkers
    • SSHs
    • Tempo Merkins
    • Freddie Mercuries

All warmed up, time to work.

    THE THANG:

Farmer’s Market 11s – in the parking lot, form a line on one edge and start with 10 jump squats and 1 HRM. Lunge across to the other side. 9 and 2. Then, backwards run back. Continue until 1 JS and 10 HRMs. Al Gore for the SIX.

Mosey down the Hill of Ill Repute (all lights on – way to go City of Richmond) and congregate at the bottom.

Proper Dora – Without the Math

Partner up and one partner runs up the hill to the second light. Do 10 uphill merkins and run back. Partner two stays at the bottom doing as many proper dora combination exercises (1 merkin, 2 squats and 3 WWII situps) as possible until your partner returns. No number to get to, just 10 minutes on the clock. Repeato until Q calls time.

Mosey down the path and up the stairs (avoiding holes) up to the Tennis Court where Gumbo had dropped some side dishes.

    The Suck with Toys

7 Exercises and 1 rabbit. Rabbit sprints the length of the court, slow/low side shuffle across and backwards run to the endline. Exercises were:

    • APDs
    • LBCs
    • Lunges
    • Plank
    • Jump Rope
    • Goblet Squats holding 35lb KB
    • One Arm KB Swings with 25lb KB

    2 rounds through

    ROF – Rosie Style

PAX in a circle holding Al Gore. On your turn, drop and do 10 merkins, then on your six, holding six inches until it comes back around to you. Then, do 10 Hello Dollies and back up to Al Gore. No flair, just strong, good-form merkins.

    3 MOM

    • SSHs
    • Mark Spitz – Flutter Kicks with hands overhead
    • Rosalitas
    • American Hammers

Back to the Flag for COT, Number-rama, Name-a-Rama and YHC took us out

    NMS:

It is always great to get over to Batteau and experience total darkness, some brutal hills and the Swiss-like precision timing of Sippy’s arrival. It is a unique AO with lots of painful possibilities. Thanks for working hard and letting me lead this morning men. Great to be with you.

    No More Gumbo For You.

  • Last Ball & Chain for the Summer Tour

OOOps YHC knows that there where 10 beastmasters that posted at Batteau this morning but due to operator error with the phone YHC doesn’t have all the F3 names. Please respond to this post if you know who is missing and YHC will add them or you.

5:30 Mosey to Pickle ball court for COP

Don Quixotes, Helicopters, Cherry Pickers, Scissor Kicks, LBC’s,

Mosey down the path to the stone landing circle up for Man Killers

Mosey to the bottom of the hill (10) Burpies, Mosey around the lake stopping at each light for an add a burpie. First light one burpie, second light two Burpies and figure out the pattern. YHC did not plan this exercise but Sippy Cup helped me figure out how many Burpies we would do on the fly, last light equaled 10 Burpies.

Al Gore for the 6, up the hill we go. Butt Kickers to the light, High knees to the next light, Lunges to the 3rd light and reverse Lunges to a random tree. Mosey the rest of the way to the top of the hill to find a Ball, a chain and 8 exercises to work on.

Each exercise X10 when complete run half way down the hill do 5 merkins head back up the hill. The Ball or Chain gets a free pass on the merkins.

    NMS:

Thanks Sippy cup for being the Co-Q this morning, keeping my count and providing the light to stay on the path.

YHC does apologize to the PAX for dropping the ball as the camera operator today.

YHC also has to clear up a post workout conversation. I did not Q the ball and Chain at every AO on the summer tour only 3 of the 4 nano regions. I couldn’t use it at Twin Team because they where in my car which was in the shop.

  • Richmond City Paid The Light Bill

Nine Electricians posted at Batteau to check the Forest Hill Park transformer. All was in working order. Here’s how we lit it up:

    Vinny Q – COP: Mosey into the Pit, needing head lamps already. Invisible Jump Ropes x 20 / SSHs x 20 / Russian Soldiers x 10 / LBCs x 10. Flutter Kicks x 10 / Hello Dollies x 10.

Electric Slide: Mosey down to the bottom of the Hill of Ill Repute. Pair up. Partner 1 runs to the top of the hill. Partner 2 = Backwards Polar Bear. Switch and repeat. Round 2 = Triple Jump Squats. Round 3 = Bear Crawl. Repeat until PAX reaches the top.

Bleeder Q – Meter Readers: Mosey back down HIR to head of lake path. Increasing Merkins at every working light poll. Turns out the City paid the power bill and fixed ALL the lights. 5/10/15/20/25/30/35/40/45/50.

Posh Q – Juice Stairs: Partner up: Partner 1 down the steps for 20 dips. Partner 2 = WWIIs. Repeat x 3.

BTTF – :15 of American Hammers.

    Faceplant took us out

Announcements: Order your F3 – Your Name Here – shirts ASAP. Labor Day Convergence at Timberwolf – 7:00 a.m. Puppy Pile Aug. 24 – 7:05. Retreat is 9/21-22. See the PreBlast for details.

NMS: Strong numbers at Batteau today, including Hitchhiker making his Batteau debut. We’ve yet to use the newly minted pickle ball courts, but we will soon. Bleeder must’ve known the City fixed all the lights when he called the lake lap. Sippy pure formed his way through all 260+ merkins. As always Swirly lead the way, with Posh right behind him. It was great having Upchuck back in the fold. Glad the wheel is healing nicely.

    Have a great week!

  • Danger: Falling Rocks. Mosey at your own risk

7 hard men posted for YHC’s VQ. Hardywood, despite promises made a mere 48 hours ago, chose not to join us in the gloom. YHC’s little heart is broken.

    But alas, we pushed on.

This is how the thing went:

Mosey to the pickleball courts, 10 Merkins, 10 Helicopters, 10 WWII’s.

Mosey down to the lake and run a full lap. Write a letter to City Council asking for explanation of why 70% of lights around the lake don’t work. 40 yards of walking lunges.

Mosey back up the hill to the sunken garden, break into 2 man teams. One man runs to the top of the hill, other man rocks out 20 dips, followed by 20 merkins, then a plank. Repeat 3 rounds.

Mosey to the tennis courts for 4 corners of abdominal pain. 20 WWII’s, 20 LBC’s, 20 Supermen, 20 4-count flutters. Run the long ends, bear crawl the short ends. Followed by a Merkin circle- each man led 10 Merkin variations of his choosing.

Mosey to the top of the stairs, grab yourself a nice boulder, then mosey down the stairs to the lake. Boulder shoulder presses, boulder squats, followed by a run back to the top of the stairs to return the boulder back to its home.

Handshake, who wasn’t the least bit tired, had the strength to not only place the boulder back down but send it rolling down the hill with significant speed and crashing into the opening below. Posh narrowly survived the rockslide and lived to tell the tale.

Mosey back to the flag, Numberama, name-a-rama, prayer, done.

YHC thoroughly enjoyed his first Q and feels incredibly blessed to have discovered F3 RVA. Looking forward to many more mornings with y’all. Embrace the suck.

  • Pay Your Dues At Batteau CC

It’s that time of year again to pay your dues at the Batteau Country Club. Member benefits include unlimited use of the pickleball courts and a crab walk buffet on Monday mornings. Dues can be paid in weekly installments on Mondays at 5:30am in Forest Hill Park.

According to legend, the hot potato beat down went a little something like this.

COP Swirly Style, let’s be honest he tried to flipping kill us:

    • 30 Elbow Plank Up Downs
    • 20 Burpees
    • 50 Merkins
    • 40 Mountain Climbers
    • 40 Flutter Kicks
    • 30 Count Boat Hold
    • 10 SSH

    Pass to Vinnie

Batteau CC Doras: Partner up. One partner runs the Valley of Dews (see what I did there). The other partner is exercising and deeply regretting getting a lower back tattoo. Switch when run is complete doing the following exercises to completion – 100 Decline Merkins, 200 WWII SI Uphill, 300 Squats

    Pass to Upgrade

Fountain of Youth Ladder: Starting at the treeline, bear crawl for what seemed like an eternity to the first tree and run back. Then to make it even more apparent there was only one pax member under 30, crab walk all the way to the second tree and run back. Then forget about doing anything with your arms for the rest of the day, because you are now going to bear crawl to the 3rd tree. Pick your face up off the ground and run back. What are you in a hurry for might you ask; it’s to crab walk to the 4th tree. Don’t forget your toll tag and a snack. After that crustacean feat of endurance you gotta run back to the start. Now you have the privilege of bear crawling to the 5th tree. Birds chirping, sunrises, none of that crap matters at this point because all you want to do is be done. Guess what amigo, you are not done. Now you have to run back to the start and wait for it….crab freaking walk to the 6th tree. You’ll know you are done when you either a) reach the 6th tree or b) require Tommy John surgery.

Wonderwall: Some kind of overhead clapping exercise to the beat of an Oasis tune that seemed to be way disproportionate in skill or pain to the previous exercise. There is also a chance Upgrade was patronizing the pax.

Numberama, namerama, Swiper led us out.

Announcements: Camp Vinnie is in full effect on September 9/21 – 9/22. You can enjoy most of your amendments, but not all of them. If you are a 3rd amendment advocate, you’re gonna be ok. The rest of you, good luck.

Moleskin: YHC likes being back very much. This is a great way to start the week and all kidding aside, it’s great to know that a band of brothers is gonna be there. Half of Posh showed up. Apparently he lost the other half. Way to go brotha. Bleeder has gone full Von Trapp and it’s a solid look. Swiper had a great quote today from current marathon world record holder who is also chasing the elusive sub 2 hour marathon mark, Eliud Kipchoge.

“The best time to plant a tree was 30 years ago. The second best time to plant a tree is now.”

  • Dirty Dozen in The Boat

Twelve studs rolled up to Batteau today for YHC’s VQ. The gloom was deep, the soup was thick, and after welcoming a fellow traveler from South of the Border – Stumpjumper (Charlotte) – here’s how it went:

COP: IC Don Quixotes, Imperial Walkers, Russian Soldiers, Freddie Mercuries, Mountain Climbers

    THE THANG:

Mosey to the sledding hill for 11s: Hand Release Merkins + WWIIs

Mosey to a line of six trees and pardner up. Pardner A bear crawls to first tree, runs back; Pardner B does ABCs AMRAP, then switch so Pardner B goes a bear crawlin while Pardner A works on his penmanship. Travellin mode to trees 1-3 was the crawling bears, trees 4-6 was Bernie Sanders. The PAX was feelin the Bern, and mumble chatter mentioned a “bonus tree,” so a backpeddlin we went, with a taste of Al Gore for the six.

Mosey to the tennis courts for some four corners: 25 Carolina Dry Docks, 50 squats, 75 SSHs, 100 LBCs with crabwalks in between.

Mosey to some picnic tables for 5 incline merkins on the table + 5 dips on the bench + 5 merkins of choice on the ground. Set of three then repeato to double your pleasure. Sippy Cup was observed to be doing some sort of Bruce Lee merkin variant with one hand and one foot in the air; nunchucks likely tucked in the weight vest.

Serpentine mosey up and down the sledding hill then back to the flag for some Mary: Heels to Heaven, Hi/Lo Flutter Kicks, Freddie Mercuries and then – of course – The Burpee. 10 OYO.

Numberama, nameorama, and YHC took us out.

    — Hump Day Happy Hour this Wednesday at 6:00; park at Palani Drive. Kubota has the deets.

    — Puppy Pile this Saturday; bring your 2.0s!

Thanks to the PAX for putting out today and supporting the VQ!

  • Put the rocks away–take the rocks out.

    COT–BT took us out

    Moleskin.

It was fun to have so many here for the summer tour, and it was good to spend the majority of the time with the rocks today. I’m (Sippy) feeling the effects all over.

  • Pushing speed

As the 3 Pax assembled today we realized that we had the opportunity to really push the distance covered today, and so we gave Rosie a tour of most of the AO.

COP–Sippy leading: DQs, Helicopters, Arm Circles, Hamstring scoops, Merkins

Mosey to the rocks for a triple check, Plank with rock, curls, run to/from light post.

Mosey to lake for double check–run the rock steps loop or dips/step ups.

Faceplant leading: Tour around lake with alternating 5x burpees and 5x WWIIs at each light pole.

Sippy leading: Run up the side hill/trail to the parking lot. Lunge for 20 meters. Mosey to picnic shelter. 100x group total chicken peckers on picnic shelter. Sprint down to lake and back up hill to bowl. Then 20x IC dips with palms back.

Mosey to the flag for a 30s elbow plank.

    COT–YHC took us out.

Moleskin. The Pax revved the engines high today. The three of us are used to a few more “breathers” while we wait for the 6, but today we pushed each other to the limits with few breaks, which meant for 45 minutes of high BPM. It was nice to have Rosie join us on his summer tour.

  • All for One, and One for ALL!

    • “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of Faith. For the joy set before Him He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” (Hebrews‬ ‭12:1-3‬ ‭NIV‬‬)
