  • “We Bang ‘Em Out!”

Seven people who didn’t stay up to watch Boston win another ring posted at Batteau for our weekly edition of Handoff-o-rama. This is how we do it…

    Swirly Q: COP IC – SSHs / DQs / Helicopters / LBCs. Mosey to picnic tables. Incline merkins x 10 … Dips x 15 … Stepups x 20 (10 each leg). Repeato x 3. PAX planks. various formations mixed with 10 HR merkins … 10 knuckle merkins … 10 wide grip merkins.

Bleeder Q: Crazy 888s. Run figure 8 loop around the driveway by the Stonehouse. Start and finish each lap at the cross-section of the figure 8. At the completion of each lap, bang out 8 Lt Dans and 8 Scorpion kicks. 8 Loops total. Fast PAX ran an extra loop sans excercises.

Vinny Q: Mosey to pasture on left side of the Stonehouse. Form home base at a tree. Polar Bear to an assigned tree and back. Next – Russian Soliders to next tree and back. Next – crabwalk to next tree and back. Finally – sprint to next tree, bang out five burpees, sprint back to base tree. Mosey back to driveway loop for ascending incline / decline merkins with lunges. To 10. Back to the flag for Mary IC: Heels to Heaven x 10. Crunchy Frogs x 10. American Hammers x 10. 6:15 a.m.

    Faceplant took us out.

Announcements: Ghost Flag will be up Sat. at Dogpile. Nano region who brings the most qualifying FNGs wins. Adult males 18 and older.

NMS: Last weekend during CSAUP second F, there were lots of important discussions about many worldly topics. Why wearing jeans is inappropriate. Explaining to TYA what yard khakis are. Seasonal dictations for cords and seersucker, to name a few. Mixed in was the offering by Swirly that we don’t “do merkins,” “we bang ’em out!” We don’t “do SSHs,” “we bang ’em out!” Well said Swirly. I couldn’t agree more. So as we go forth men, don’t do today, bang it out!

  • Am I at the right place?

Two eager men arrived for a beat down in the dark, beautiful cold morning of Batteau. What ensued goes something like this…

Mosey to the Maintenance building for a quick warmup COP:

-Don Quiotes, Windmills, SSH, Flutter Kicks, American Hammers, Merkins

    The Thang:

Flange: Mosey over the steps for 11’s.  Hand release Merkins at top of stairs, dips at the bottom with the benches provided just for us.

Faceplant has an idea: Mosey down to the Lake.  Perform an exercise at each light post, completing the full loop around the Lake.  10 WWII’s at each light post, alternating a run and lunges between each post…this took a little longer than we expected.

Back to Flange: Run one more complete lap around the Lake, take a right up the paved hill, left half way up and back to the “flag”.  Five minutes to go…let’s do a curb crawl.  Start one side, bear crawl to other and do 1 Incline Merkin, bear crawl back and perform 2 Derkins, so on up to 10.  25 LBC’s, 25 Freddie Mercury’s.

    Circle up…uh face each other.

    YHC took us out.

NMS: YHC arrived at 5:25 this morning with no others in sight.  Could I be in the wrong place…there’s the stone house!  Where’s Swirly or Vinny?  Surely, I’ll see Sippy Cup’s bouncing headlamp coming any second now?  5:27 and YHC sees headlights!  Faceplant pulls up probably expecting to see more than just YHC there, but with only a couple of minutes to spare and a brief conversation, we were off.  Our quick intelligence at 5:27 in the morning told us that folks had given all they had at CSAUP over the weekend and needed a well deserved Monday morning rest.  Congrats to those that crushed it over the weekend…much respect!  YHC and Faceplant were unable to join in the fun Saturday, so this morning presented a great way to start the week.  Thanks to Faceplant for offering some help today and allowing YHC to stay on target for his first official VQ this week.  Also, thanks to Faceplant for keeping me on pace and pushing each other.  Make it a great day, all!

  • Name that Hill?

Dix Warriors shook off the warmth of the fart sack at Batteau this morning, for the always entertaining Q lead by YHC. YHC planted the flag with Vinny and EF Hutton parked and waiting…..0530 time to mosey.

Quick warm up lap down the street and through the original Forest Hill Park entrance and back to the flag for COP= x 10 Don Quixote’s, x 10 Imperial Walkers, x 10 SSH, x 10 Invisible Jump Ropes, x 10 Flutter Kicks, x 10 LBC’s. Let’s mosey, down Hill of Ill Repute, and to The Lake.

Lap around The Lake=at each light pole, x 5 Merkins, x 5 Mountain Climbers. Plank when finished.

Partner Up. Partner 1 runs to the top of Hill of Ill Repute and meets partner 2 while partner 2 is lunging up The Hill.

At the old spring, OYO= x 100 Step ups, x 100 dips. Mosey to the front of Forest Hill park.

Modified 11’s. Starting at top of the hill closet to Stone House, x 1 Merkin, run down the hill forwards. Bernie Sanders up the hill to the other side, x 10 LBC’s. Repeat. Down the hill running foward; Bernie Sanders uphill. x 2 Merkins, Run down, Bernie Sanders up, x 9 LBC’s. Sippy Cup and Faceplant go to x 9 Merkins when PAX was timed out. PAX met in the middle of the fishbowl and Bernie Sanders up hill and mosey back to the flag.

Number-ama, Name-r-ama, Announcements: CSAUP this Saturday, starting at 0700! Parking lot, Forest Hill in the back where Farmer’s Market takes place.

    YHC took us out!

NMS– Twin Team is at River Run. Love Hill is at Dogpile. Hill of Ill Repute is at Batteau. Forest Hill is at the front of Batteau! YHC thinks he heard chatter from Shakedown about Elliott’s employment and employer. And than YHC heard, “Shakedown, they are not going to take your guns.” Conspiracy is already taken, thankfully for Shakedown’s sake.  Reminder, headlamps are often helpful, especially at Batteau!

Sippy Cup and Swirly-respect for running to the AO!

10 at Batteau=awesome. Way to start our morning men! Thank you for following!

    Only those who post, understand!

    Loud and Proud,

    Flatline

  • Tomorrow is a 4-letter Word

    YHC took us out.

Announcements: CSAUP on 10.20 – stay tuned for BB.

As most of y’all know, YHC has been dealing with a bad case of poison ivy. Then now, a bad reaction to the medicine prescribed to alleviate said poison ivy. Let’s just say I’d take the poison ivy itch over the nonsense being levied by the medicine. The point is not to complain, but rather to recognize and remind myself that we all are dealing with something. Whether it be mental, physical, or both, the excuse to stay in bed and get back at it tomorrow is real and present. This morning was one of those croassroads for me. But knowing my boys would there today, and there was nothing I could do about it anyway, I posted. It got me thinking, “tomorrow” really is a 4-letter word. Not in the traditional sense, but in that it can promote laziness and complacency. It carries with it a dangerous snowball effect that flies in the face of what F3 truly stands for, at least in how I see it. So go out today and scratch that itch – just hopefully not the one that has gotten me all out of whack.

  • No Swirly But Plenty of Poison Sumac

Five Monday morning warriors – one covered in poison sumac – posted for the customary Batteau hot potato beatdown that went a little something like this.

    COP: Imperial Walkers IC x 15 / Helicopters IC x 15 / Russian Soldiers IC x 15 / Merkins IC x 10

Mosey to bottom of maintenance hill. All trees on the left perform 7 merkins. Lunges in between. Repeato back down the hill with 7 merkins and Russian Soldiers.

Mosey to bottom of Love Hill. Partner up. Partner 1 runs to top of hill and back. Partner 2 crawl bears. Switch and repeat. Next round Lunges. Third round triple jumps. Complete to the top of Love Hill.

Mosey back to bottom of maintenance hill. PAX grabs rocks. 20 overhead rock slams. Carry rocks to tennis court. Partner up. First round. Partner 1 runs suicides while Partner 2 planks with rock on his back. Second round Partner 2 elbow planks with rock. Third round Partner 2 planks with right hand on rock. Fourth round Partner 2 planks with left hand on rock. Ditch rocks. Plank up – wide. 10 merkins with left leg off the ground. 10 merkins with right leg off the ground.

    4 corners x 2: 5 merkins. 20 LBCs. 30 squats. 10 Merkins.

Back to the Flag – ABBA took us out.

    CSAUP – 10/20. See TYA.

MOLESKIN: Last Wed Flatline took us over to the water reservoir at WDog. A simple yet lethal triple check. After sliding down that hill three times YHC worked up a bad case of poison sumac, or whatever. Admittedly, YHC gets said poison whatever, whenever the word is uttered. Y’all don’t want to see where it is, just know it’s there, and it’s bad. Typing this BB from the docs waiting room, looking oh so forward to that steroid injection. Good times.

Aside from that, we all wondered where Swirly was. Glad to know he was up and at em at Hoedown. Congrats on one year out there to Tuckahoe’s finest.

Make it a great week men!

  • What’s my name?

A total of nine (large group for Batteau) made their way through the early morning, heavy mist to conquer another Batteau beat down.  The conditions were set up perfectly and thanks to the folks who assisted with headlamps (belt lamp for Vinny).

    COP – Swirly

    SSH X 20

    DQ X 10

    COPPERHEAD SQUAT X 10

    LBC’S X 20

    FLUTTER KICKS X 10

    MERKINS X 20 (3 COUNT)

    Believe I’m missing one…

Vinny – Mosey to bottom of hill by the pond for a “pole smoker”. Each PAX member lies down at a wooden pole evenly spaced over the length of the bridge.  The PAX starts doing flutter kicks, while the first in line does a 2 count 10, then pops up and runs to the end of the line…next in line is counting, etc.  Half way through the Q calls out Hello Dolly’s for the PAX.

Hand off to Flange – Mosey to the tennis courts…first court has been demolished and left for a mud pit!  Sippy advised YHC that there is a second court and even a third…who knew.  Four Corners: 10 Carolina Dry Docks, run length of court to 2nd corner-20 WWII’s, Bear Crawl width of court  to corner 3-30 CDD,  run to corner 4-40 WWII’s, Bear Crawl back to start.  Second round-same exercises, same counts, but Bear Crawl length of court and Crab Walk the width.

Hand off to Sippy – Most who know Sippy at Batteau can only assume there would be some rocks involved!  Sippy calls out a Triple Check.  First round – Each line starts with a rock in front.  One does Crossover Merkins, one is Running to 2nd light on the Maintenance building and back, the 3rd is performing Jump Squats.  Round two – One is holding plank, with the rock on their back, one is Running to 2nd light, and 3rd is performing wall dips.

5 minutes left for Goldberg – Mosey to playground and stay in Triple Check Mode.  The instruction is for a sequence of 5-7-10 count Pull-Ups while the other two are performing Boo-Yah Merkins.  So, one in the trio completes his 5 Pull-Ups, then moves to the Boo-Yah’s.  Rotation is in play at that point as one jumps up to complete his Pull-Ups (one member is doubling up on Boo-Yah’s as the rotation goes).  Next is 7 Pull-Ups, then 10.

Mosey back to flag, Numberama, Namerama, Crossroads took us out!

    NMS –

As YHC pulled up this morning, the familiar silhouette of Swirly was eagerly awaiting alongside a figure that YHC did not recognize.  As YHC moved closer, it was certainly a familiar face, but had to ask “what’s your name”?  The reply was ABBA…”ah, that’s right”.  Very soon after, the remainder of the PAX rolled in, with Sippy Cup arriving in normal fashion on foot.  In keeping with the title, YHC was grouped with an unfamiliar PAX member during the triple check and when YHC approached him with “what’s your name”, the reply was…umm…wait a minute…I just started last week…oh, it’s Faceplant!  For the record, Faceplant looks strong a week in!  After the majority of the PAX had dispersed, Vinny and YHC are walking to the vehicles when Vinny looks at YHC and asks “do you want to do the honors”?  YHC was like “huh”?  The Back Blast he responds…oh!  Of course, YHC has never done this, so Vinny was kind enough to talk me through it.  Always a pleasure to post of Batteau and an honor to work along side a Strong group of Men!  Have a Blessed Monday!

Announcements – Puppy Pile this Saturday! CSAUP coming soon to Forest Hill…someone who is in the know can respond with those details.

  • What’s Your Password?

Six Batteau regulars met for their weekly ritual of a Hot Potato beatdown.

Swirly Q: COP (IC) – SSHs x 20 / Helicopters x 10 / DQs x 10 / LBCs x 20. Mosey to top of the stairs or the bottom of boulder hill, whichever you prefer. Partner up. Partner 1 curls boulder while partner 2 runs to second light and back x 3 each. Partner 1 overhead presses while partner 2 lunges to first light and runs back x 3 each. Partner 1 boulder WWII with an airpress while partner 2 karaokes to the second light and runs back x 3 each.

Bleeder Q: Mosey over the hill and through the woods to the top of the pit we went. BLIMPS – 5 polar bears. 10 inch worms. 20 lunges. Repeato to the top of Love Hill.

Sippy Cup Q: Back into the pit. Partner up. Partner 1 runs up to the stairs to the pavillon and assumes balls to the wall. Partner 2 completes 15 box jumps and runs up to the pavillion to switch with partner 2 who runs down to the pit and repeats. Same partners. Partner 1 completes 10 Bulgarian (1 leg on a bench, 1 leg on the ground) squats while partner 2 completes chicken peckers. Repeat each leg twice for a total of 4 rounds (some people don’t like math).

Crossroads Q: Mosey back over the hill and back through the woods to the playground, you know. Iesha. Triple check. Partner 1 completes 10 burpees while partner 2 performs pull-ups and partner 3 completes flutter kicks. Not a 101, but more than enough. Back to the flag.

    YHC took us out.

Announcements: 4 year anniversary convergence at Dogpile. Followed by a cross country scoring event or a FNG friendly bootcamp, both at 7:05. Cookout to follow. CSAUP on 10/20 at Forest Hill Park – 7:00 a.m. start. Puppypile on 9/29.

NMS: YHC has a friend whose kid is going through a really difficult time in their life. By extension, so is the entire family. As men, and as leaders, we tend to look for ways to inspire and support those around us. As we should. We should be rocks and pillars. But we too need inspiration and support. We should look to each other in times of need, but I challenge you to also look to kids – your own and others. They can do amazing things, and often do it during that time in their lives when nothing seems settled. When the future has no real meaning to them, and the pressure of the present is outstanding. So as we go out this week, let’s continue to lead, inspire and support those who need it. But let’s also renew our search for inspiration and support, remind ourselves that we too need it, and look to find it in the hearts and minds of kids.

  • Free From Any Other Master

“Consider who you are.  Above all, a human being, carrying no greater power than your own reasoned choice, which oversees all other things, and is free from any other master.” – Epictetus

6 spartan warriors rose to greet the dawn of a new day.  According to legend, it went a little something like this.

3 round of 5 pullups while partner performs Hello Dolly.

  • 8-20-19-37-81

8 weekend warriors, including 1 FNG, broke the hold and didn’t let the crazy thunder last night keep them from posting to Batteau this morning to start the work-week the only way we know how…in the gloom.  Gumbo made a long-overdue return to Batteau and took the Q in order to pay a little honor to his father who would have been 81 today…and Gumbo’s pops was no runner, so YHC needed to Q a bootcamp beatdown to be sure.  It went a little something like this:

Mosey through the darkness down to the Reedy Creek via the hill of ill repute.  Circle up at the bottom of the hill for a quick disclaimer and COP, all IC, including:

    • DQs x 8
    • Helicopterx x 20
    • Cotton Pickers x 19
    • SSHs x 37
    • LBCs x 81 — whew, that was a lot of LBCs

    THE THANG

Circle the Creek – lap around the creek stopping at each lamp post, whether lit or not, and do 10 merkins at every other lamp post and 10 2-ct flutterkicks at the other ones.  Plank for the six.

Given our PAX at 8, YHC needed 1 more prop for the next exercise so  he left the PAX in Swirly’s capable hands for some ab work while waiting for the six and YHC ran back up the hill to his vehicle.  Meet the PAX at the tennis courts.  Box Cutters for the six.

4 Corners Circuit  – 2 PAX at each corner, exercises as follows:

    Round 1:

    • Corner 1 (2 jump ropes) – each PAX member completes 30 jump rope revolutions.  When both are done, call SWITCH and the PAX moseys to the next corner.
    • Corner 2 = Mountain Climbers
    • Corner 3 = Freddie Mercuries
    • Corner 4 (2 Kettle Bells) = KB squats.
    • At the end of round 1 plank in your corner, then entire PAX bearcrawl to the center-net and perform 10 merkins in cadence, then bear crawl to your next corner for Round 2.

    Round 2:

    • same exercises as Round 1
    • At the end of Round 2 – lunge to center-net and perform 20 Imperial Walkers in cadence, then mosey to your next corner for Round 3.

    Round 3:

    • Corner 1 = each PAX member completes 25 jump rope revolutions, consecutively.  If you mess up, start over.  You may choose 5 penalty burpees if you can’t get 25 in a row, but your partner has to do them with you.
    • Corners 2-4: Same as Rounds 1 and 2.
    • At the end of Round 3 – broad jump to center net, 20 American Hammers in cadence

ROF – hold plank, 1 PAX does 10 merkins, next PAX in the circle is jumping rope, pass when 10 merkins are done and finish when everyone has done merkins and jump rope.

1 Minute of Superman and time was up.

Mosey back to the Flag for COT, COR, NOR and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • Puppy Pile on Saturday after Dogpile – Marv has the Q
    • Breaking Bread – Sunday evening 5-7/7:30 – Gumbo has the Q.  Looking for 1 or 2 others to help out.
    • Labor Day Convergence at 3 Lakes Park at 0700.  Be there.  Bring your SF and a mug for coffeeteria afterwards.
    • BRR is right around the corner – the guys are looking for a second driver.  Talk to TYA or Swirly if you can commit.
    • CSAUP 10/20 – miles and beers and maybe Kubota manning the grill….seriously, does it get any better?  Well, maybe – let’s find a way to get some football on TV…BAM!

    NMS:

Batteau is the DEEP GLOOM for sure.  A different kind of darkness there.  A great AO and worthy of the trip if you have not made it over there.  Great group of guys this morning.  It was nice to meet ABBA and Crossroads and of course, Periscope (FNG – Jim).

Naming was a challenge this morning and the neurons were not firing in YHC’s brain, so after some reflection on the drive home, YHC settled on Periscope for Jim’s F3 Name alluding to Jim’s time serving in the Navy as an intel officer on a Submarine.   Welcome Periscope.

Thanks for coming out guys and for letting me lead.  I knew the 81 LBCs were going to stink but I just wanted to do a little  something to remember my father this morning.  November will be six years since he passed away.  I still feel his presence and remember him daily.  I miss him dearly, but I know he is smiling down on me and my family.  Love you, Pops!

Great work this morning guys – way to push through and give max effort!  I won’t wait so long to return to Batteau!

    Have a great Monday fellas.

    No More Gumbo For You!
