NMS: Just a brutal morning. Hot Potatoes are tough enough, add in a Swedish Sauna, and you had Batteau today. All I can say is, way to work men. There was no hiding today. Swirly worked us over, then we had to climb out of the bottom and work in some abs. By the time YHC handed it off to Phonics, I was done. Lack of oxygen to the brain made me forget how ruthless and demanding a Phonics lead 6MOM can be. Not only did he bang out all of those exercises, but he did so in cadence with authority! Well done Phonics. YHC is known to sweat. Today I gave back about five pounds in water weight. Add that to the five I gave on the trails yesterday, and it’s not a bad start to the week. Drink lots of water today men, and we’ll see you back out tomorrow.

  • A Farewell To Arms

A mighty eight ventured into a rain storm developed especially for this workout.

    COP

    • Don Quixote
    • Arm Circles
    • Russian Soldiers
    • Imperial Walkers
    • Helicopters

Head down past the maintenance shed and pick up some stones.  Time for Lindseys.  The exercises are dips at the bottom of the rock stairs of death and overhead presses with the stones at the top.  Exercises are in 30/10, 25/15, 20/20, 15/25, and 10/30 reps.

Mosey up to the tennis courts for 4 Corners.

    • Bear Crawl the long side of the court and perform 10 APDs
    • Alligator Walk (plank like an alligator and perform a merkin with each arm forward) the short side of the court.  Perform 10 APDs, 20 Merkins
    • Bear Crawl the long side of the court and perform 10 APDs, 20 Merkins, 30 Carolina Dry Docks
    • Alligator Walk the short side of the court.  Perform 10 APDs, 20 Merkins, 30 Carolina Dry Docks, 40 Crab Cakes

Up to the Old Stone House for Triple Check.

    • Run around the grassy loop
    • Elbow Planks
    • Step ups on the bench

Circle up for Merkin Ring of Fire.  Pax member calls a Merkin style and a quantity between 1-10.  Pax performs exercise and next exercise decisioning is passed to the left.  This group didn’t stick with any basics and got medieval with the choices.

    Vinny took us out.

    NMS

It’s raining, so it must be Monday.  The stone steps were a raging river of poorly lit hazards, but the Pax persevered.  At one point, we could feel the maintenance group drive by and study a bunch of guys in the pouring rain and dark lifting large rocks above their heads.  F3 at its finest.

It was after the Lindseys that YHC informed the Pax that since we were on Swirly’s home AO, this workout would be called “A Farewell to Arms”.  I don’t think it disappointed.

The 4 Corners were total silence as men got down to business.  Sippy Cup’s perfect form remained constant throughout the workout.  Likewise, his imitation of an alligator was true to form.  The rest of us varied and looked more like Komodo Dragons.  Sippy would be a great method actor.

There was a truck where we did the Triple Check and the earth around the elbow planks smelled of cigarettes.  I guess the Smoking Man payed us a visit.

Great workout.  Hopefully see others on the Summer Tour this week.

PS – Welcome Green Acres who is visiting from Chapel Hill.  Heading out of town today, but hopefully we will see him soon.

    Always Be Tapering,

    Lockjaw

  • Lightning Rod Reg

Seven storm chasers appeared from the gloom into the gloom for an electric beatdown that went like this:

Swirly Q: COP – SSHs / DQs / Helicopters / IWs / 5 burpees OYO. Mosey to trees lining driveway. Lunge to tree. 10 HR merkins. Repeato to top of driveway. Run long circle loop and back to circle curb for dips while waiting on the PAX.

Bleeder Q: Mosey down to trail around lake. Progressive laps. Round 1: 10 burpees – take a lap. Round 2: 10 burpees / 20 American Hammers (single count, Lab Rat). Round 3: 10 burpees / 20 American Hammers / 30 spacers – YHC has completely forgotten the third exercise. Audible. Run back up love hill to second light pole. Back to the PAX. Run up love hill and back to the pit for reverse planks.

Vinny Q: Mosey to tree beside tennis courts. Pele 20 count. Mosey to circle for ascending curb crawls AMRAP style for 5 minutes. Incline / Decline merkins. Circle up. Captain Thors OYO – 1 min. Ring of fire. 1-5.

    Lab Rat took us out.

Announcements: Aug. Puppy Pile in the works. We need a Q. BRR (you must know the secret knock to get in).

    NMS:

YHC loves workouts in the pouring rain. Not so much when lightning is everywhere. Nevertheless, the 5:30 bell rang, and it was time to go to work. Glad I wasn’t the only crazy person who posted. Turns out there were at least six other crazies.

Always a solid way to start the week, and always a solid group to start the week with.

  • The Day We Touched ‘Em All

Eleven, yes, 11 F3 RVA All-Stars showed up to Batteau Stadium for a beatdown and some baseball. Batter up:

    Mosey to outfield for COP: Helicopters x 10 / Willie Mays Hayes x 9 / LBCs x 10 / Scorpion Kicks x 9.

First Base: Cleveland Indians Run around the outfield. One of the hilliest outfields in the bigs according to Swirly, and YHC agrees.

Second Base: Touch ’em all: 1st base – 10 burpees / 2nd base – 20 merkins / 3rd base – 25 American Hammers (2-count) / Home Plate – 30 WWIIs. Run to 1st. Exercise. Back to Home Plate – 1 burpee. Run to 1st base. Exercise. Run to 2nd base. Exercise. Repeat until you touch ’em all. Finish at Home Plate. 5 burpees at each bag back reverso, ’rounding the bases. Finish back at home plate.

Third Base: 12 minutes of Pain (make that 11): 1st base – hold six inches for 3 minutes. Crabwalk to 2nd base. Hold elbow plank for 3 minutes. Lunges to 3rd base. Due to time constraints, YHC shook off the pitch and went with SSHs for 2 minutes. Backwards Lunges to Home Plate. Arm claps for 3 minutes. Sounds easy. Not so much.

Home Plate: Time to give the boys a break. Whiffle Ball – F3 Style! 5 pitches for each batter. After 5th pitch, batter calls a 1-5 exercise. WWIIs, Burpees, Dying Cockroaches, Knuckle Merkins, HR Merkins, and others were called.

    Back to the Dugout (Flag).

Announcements: Puppy Pile this Saturday at 7:05

    NMS:

YHC is proud to celebrate two milestones today. First and foremost, my son, Shark Bait, turns 8. The greatest gift I’ve ever received is him. He teaches me so much everyday. Happiness, gratitude, understanding, and much, much more. Love you buddy! Also, YHC posted for the 100th time today. Looking back on day one, and thinking about how far I’ve come physically and spiritually in such a short period of time is awesome! Thanks to each and every one of you for playing a role. YHC could not have done it without you.

I think F3 workouts are best summarized as butt kicking workouts with fun sprinkled in. That was my goal for today. Hope y’all enjoyed the time. I know and I did. Thanks for letting me lead today.

  • Wishing I Was … Knee Deep In the Water Somewhere…

Six strong posted at Batteau today.  Three or so fresh off of vacation. No more asses in the sand. Time to shake off the crab legs, ice cream and cold beers. YHC started us off.

    COP:  Helicpoters / DQs / Imperial Walkers / LBCs / Dying Coachroaches – ALL X 10

THANG: Introduce the Batteau PAX to Windsor Farms Do Si Dos.  Partner up. Two sets of 10 each. Nex up, Whatchamacallits.  Those who posted Gridiron on Saturday were introduced to these by our guest Q from Louisville. I think he called them Jack Whites, but even he wasn’t sure if that was correct, or why they were called that. YHC has taken it upon himself to rename them. They are completely underrated, and pack a nice punch. Just like the candy bar we all loved as a kid. 1 merkin / 4 air presses. 2 merkins / 8 air presses. Sounds easy. It ain’t.  Repeat the ladder until you hit 10 Merkins / 40 air presses. I don’t know about the rest of the PAX, but shaving and hair shampooing weren’t completed with their normal ease this morning. YHC passed to Swirly.

Mosey to rusty cage. 5 pull-ups / 20 dips x 3 sets. Mosey a bit more to picnic tables. 20 step ups (10 each leg) / 10 incline merkins x 3 sets. Pass to Flange. Mosey to tennis courts. Partner up. Bear crawl across tennis courts; sprint back. Partner collect 100 donkey kicks, 150 SSHs, 200 LBCs. Mosey to COT area for 15 minutes of pain. More bear crawls. More merkins. Bear craw across COT yard, 1 decline merkin. Run back. Repeato to 11. Flange called and audible after 10. PAX runs the large loop then back for Mary. Cherry Pickers (20, YHC thinks),  flutter kicks, Flange takes requests. Crossroads serves up V-ups. 10 or so, Flange lost his voice during counting. Easy to do at that point.

    YHC took us out.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS: Puppy Pile 7/21:

Moleskin: YHC was excited to show the boys Windsor Farms Do Si Dos and Whatchamacallits. As expected, the PAX thought the latter would be easy. As predicted, the PAX fessed up that they weren’t. Great seeing everyone back in the gloom. If you are going to come off of vacation on a Monday, today’s 57 and sunny was a great way to do it. Nice to have Crossroads out with us. Interject some of that young blood.

    Have a great week men!

  • Sweating, on the rocks

2 regular Batteau rock haulers, one occasional visitory and 2 uninitiated Pax  showed up on a very hot Monday morning.    Hot Potato Q was called. Mosey over to the sledding hill.

Honeydo leading COP– SSH, Helicopters, Merkins, DQs, Freddie Mercuries.  Then zip-line back and forth. 15x Merkins at one tree and 15x WW2s at the other.  Work way down hill in a zig-zag fashion.

Sippy Cup leading.   Choose a rock and head down to the lake for a large loop.  Leg 1.  Carry rock up the long hill to the FH parking lot, then 10x crossover merkins.  Mosey to picnic shelter for 10x 2-count chicken peckers. Mosey to the bowl for 20x Box jumps, then run down hill to start.  Wait for pax and then run up the hill to retrieve rock and carry down.

Flange leading.  10x lunges each leg with rock on right shoulder, followed by 5x 2-count crossover merkins.  Then put rock on left shoulder and repeat.  I think we did this ~4 times on each shoulder.  Carry rock back up to its resting place and Mosey back to the flag.

    Honeydo leading.  15x LBCs.

    COT.  Splinter took us out.

Moleskin.  Great work today, men.  With the heat, that was a crushing workout and perhaps the sweatiest I’ve ever been at an F3 workout. It was nice to Honeydo, Splinter and Mr. Holland visiting today.  The summer tour has been nice!  Flange continues to crush the rock workouts.  YHC thought the lunges he led would never end.  He also brought a sippy cup to the workout, although it got left behind early on–I know the challenge, Flange!

    MOLESKIN

YHC loves Batteau, it’s a darn fine AO, but Hoedown is so darn close.  Regardless, it was great to be back there after a long hiatus.  A quick glance at Big Data shows that Ponch has posted 8 times in 2 weeks.  He’s clearly drinking the Kool-Aid.  Drink it up buddy, this Kool-Aid won’t kill you, in fact it’ll make you stronger.  Side note, that expression should really be Drinking the Flavor-Aid, just look it up if you don’t know.  Speaking of Ponch, as he walked up to YHC this morning trying to recall YHC’s name, “Splinter right?”  Not quite, but I get that a lot.  Can’t wait for Ponch to see YHC and Splinter side by side and see how comically different we are in stature.  Later having not grasped YHC’s name pre-workout, “was it Fudd?”  Not quite, but I get that a lot.  Just messing with you Ponch, if you knew everyone’s name already YHC would wonder what really was in the Kool-Aid.  Anyway, great to have you out on the regular.  One other interesting tidbit from the morning.  Unless YHCs eyes deceived him, Tobit was wearing his gloves as he drove up, making him the anti-Mr.Roper.  YHC wonders if Tobit also wears his shoes to bed at night.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

Home Run Derby – Tuesday @ Huguenot Little League (2801 Robious Crossing Drive, Midlothian, VA 23113) – May want to bring a glove

Always a beatdown when there is a Hot potato Q – way to work guys. Wow it was humid – the sweat was rolling even before we got moving. Great to see Opus out at Batteau. Peta was back out – good to see you out there again man. Awesome to have Bleeder back in action @ a bootcamp – way to push brother..

Hardywood and Sippy crushed the lake. Singer and Pele – crushed the court – Bleeder smoked the 4 corners. Opus and Peta slammed through that brutal mary. Great to have Sippy join me on the run back to the house after the workout!

Great job guys – excellent way to start the week !

    See y’all in the gloom..

  • Do The Work

9 warriors rose to great the dawn of a new day for an epic beatdown.  According the legend, it went a little something like this.

Swirly – COP IC: SSH, DQ, Helicopters, Flutter Kicks, Merkins

3 Rounds: 20 dips, 10 decline merkins, run up to the top of the Hill of Ill Repute for 15 more merkins.

Sippy Cup – Grab a Rock and head over to the Suffer Loop.  Take your rock down to the bottom and complete 16 crossover merkins (hand alternating on the rock).  Run with rock along the service road to stairs and complete 15 Goblet Squats with rock.  Run up the path (with rock) to the top and make a short jaunt up the stairs.  Do that for 3 rounds.

Hardywood – Mosey back to flag.  Ring of fire, WWII X 20 IC, Flutter KIcks X 40 IC.

Namerama, numberama, COT, Sippy Cup lead us out.

News: F3 Field Day at Dogpile Saturday 6/16.  Vinny has the Q and is requesting you come with a t-shirt that represents your formative years.

Puppy Pile 6/23 at 7:05am.  Sippy has the Q.

Welcome PETA.  Here’s the lineage. Flange brought Hunter (birthname), who works at ET’s and before that opened a boutique butcher shop in the fan, his parents are vegetarians -> PETA seemed obvious and appropriate.

Moleskin:  For full disclosure, YHC had intentions of taking a rest day today.  No digital alarms were set.  However, the alarm of obligation went off at 4am sharp and essentially dissolved the loving embrace of the fart sack.  YHC is very happy for this unexpected divine intervention.  Today was an EPIC beatdown.  Swirly had us hitting the basics hard from the start.  The star of the show was Sippy’s 3 rounds on the Suffer Loop.  Hats off to Abba, Fez and PETA for crushing it on a Monday in what has to be one of the hardest workouts YHC can remember in a long time.

    Have a great week fellas!

Dig a little deeper, get it all out and be super.

    Hardywood
