  • Short sleeves?

4 gentlemen showed up to Batteau this morning, dressed for a cool fall morning-long sleeves, one poofy vest, and Swirly sporting a toboggan hat. YHC was wearing short sleeves and typical visor. 0530 arrived and a question arose, “Who has the Q?” Swirly took the initiative and stated hot potato.

    Mosey down brick path to COP: SSH x 20, Helicopters x 15, Don Quixote x 15, Imperial Walkers x 15, Arm Circles-forward x 10 small, x 5 big and reverse x 10 small, x 5 big. On our 6- Scissor Kicks x 15, LBC x 30.

Swirly called first exercise. You vs you; x 10 derkins, x 20 dips, x 30 step ups (15 each leg) 3 rounds total!

Sippy Cup took the Q with his light and we headed down to the pond. During our mosey, Swirly spoke of his little run over the weekend. Hey Swirly, way to crush that “little” run!   Sippy called Exercise 2- x 10 merkins at every light pole with a penalty for every light out-crab touches. How many lights were out you might ask? 3 lights were out PAX performed X 10, X 20, x 30 crab touches, so with each light out-we increased the penalty.  Sippy was happy to know that one of his notification to the city about broken lights had been acknowledged and one light was fixed! Upon completion of merkin lake, we partnered up. Jumped up on stone bridge with our partners holding our legs and performed 3 rounds of x 10 dips. Upon completion, Flatline took the Q.

Exercise 3-Quicksand. Run 30 steps up the hill, than turn around and x 5 lunges down the hill. Continue till PAX had returned to the steps. Plank at the end. And……Mosey to the tennis courts.

Exercise 4-Modified Dora, Triple Check Suicide. Partner up. Suicides on the court while partners performs following exercises to completion-x 100 squats, x 150 SSH, x 200 Mountain Climbers. And……Mosey to playground.

Exercise 5- you vs you. 3 rounds of 5 pullups. Mosey back to circle with one minute left. On your 6, scissor kicks till 0615.

Number-ama, Name-r-ama, and Swirly took us out!

Not much chatter this morning – not surprising on a Monday :). The pax crushed the workout and looked to be in the mood to attack the week ahead – go gettem boys!

Great job fella’s – always a pleasure to lead – see y’all in the gloom..

After the usual disclaimer, YHC turned over the Q to Theta, who recently passed(Scorched) the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) – Theta started ROTC in fall of this year as a Sophomore. Although the starting the exercise methodology was more ROTC like, the Cadence was right on the money! Well Done, Theta!

The Yankee Aggressor, wearing what looked liked weighted socks, was his usual chatterbox during most of the workout; demonstrating the proper way to create mumble chatter during a most exercises.

WinkleVoss, our FNG today, drove in from the Tri-city area this morning. When WinkleVoss asked where the workout was tomorrow, Bootleg suggested that he should take a day off and try Wdog on Wednesday. (Swirly about came out of his skin with that comment) YHC highlighted that taking a day off is one approach, versus attempting the daily ritual.

    Announcements:

  • A Butterfly Emerges

3 Warriors rose to greet the dawn of a new day.  It went a little something like this.

    COP: IC- SSH X 20, DQ X 10, IW X 20, LBC X 20, FM X 20, M X 10

Cecil’s Ladder – There are 12 lamp posts the circle Forest Hill Pond.  At the first post start with 1 jump squat.  Second post 2 jump squats, etc.  After completing an exercise at the twelth lamp post, make your way back to the start stopping at each lamp post and working your way down the ladder.

Cecil’s Ladder Round 2 – On the way out Hello Dolly with an audible called for on the descending return trip back of Merkins.

Hill of Ill Repute – Complete a combo of running (forwards or backwards) and 5 declining (facing down hill) merkins at each lamp post.

    Mary – WWII SI IC X 20, Six Inches IC X 20

Moleskin – The only way the YHC we be in attendance is to sign up for the Q.  The fartsack force feels particularly strong on these days.  This morning was dominated by the strong work of Bootleg.  What has happened in the past few months is something to be admired and to set an example of us all.  This was a tough workout this morning that Bootleg would have really struggled with during his first few weeks of F3.  He was right in the thick of it today.  Absolutely incredible and TClaps to you brotha.

    News:

The one year anniversary for Hampton Roads is coming up.  Keep in eye on their backblasts for dates and times.

Our brothers to the west in CVille are looking for some support at a 4 Mile race in their fair city in the coming weeks.  Keep an eye on their bb for specifics.

Upchuck thinks Dogpile is too easy.  He says it’s like the Princeton of working out.  The sweaty Knight of Cambridge is introducing the Double Dog on Saturday October 21st.  See him for details and schedule your appointment now with Flipper for October 23rd. #laser

  • A little tour for a newbie

Brisk, fall morning, great weather for a little tour of Forest Hill park.

COP.  Squats, Arm Circles, Imperial Walkers, Merkins

Mosey to the basin for Lindsay’s: Box jumps and Dips

Mosey to the lake for a circuit with 10 merkins at every light pole

Mosey to the base of the hill for Shifting Sands (30 strides up, 10 lunges down) back to basin

Mosey to the Playground for partner pullups 1–>5, 5–>1

Mosey to the rock pile and to the courts for (1) Rock throws, (2) Plank + suicides (one partner elbow planks with heavy rock on back, while other does 1 suicide, repeato). (3) 10x Crossover Merkins. (4) Rock throws. Take rock back and mosey to the flag.

Moleskin.  YHC (Sippy) was a bit early this morning and showed up to very quiet AO.  Fortunately, Flatline showed for his first appearance at Batteau, and so we jointly Q’d–Flatline did the COP, and Sippy did the rest, giving a nice tour of most parts of the AO.  As is typical with a 2 person workout there was a lot of conversation during the moseys as we got to know each other a bit–that was fun.  There was certainly no talking during the Lindsays–box jumps will do that to you.

Weird things with a workout of 2.  In the COP, do you face each other or stand in a line?  We faced, but didn’t make eye contact–would have been weird.  In the COT, how do you stand?  We did the side-hug formation like we typically do during the ball of man, it seemed appropriate and worked well.  Corporate, note it in your files–Side by side formations are best when the PAX = 2.

Other notes:  Each week, we see a few more lights out around the lake.  YHC tried, see-click-fix this morning to see if it gets take care of.

  • With Batteaus on Their Belts

A strong 11, including 1 FNG, emerged for Day 3 of Tuckahoe Takeover.  Here’s YHC’s recollection of what transpired:

    The THANG:

COP: Hammer Dance x22, DQ x11, Windmills x11, Hello Dollies x22, Stick in the Mud (back lifts) x11 IC

Mosey to playground.  3 sets of 6 Pull-Ups, 15 Monkey Humpers, and 15 HTH.  Add a fourth set as a tribute to home additions in Tuckahoe.

From Green Acres to Beverly Hills: Two groups of railroad tracks across the bottom of Forest Hill bowl.

The Last Shall Be First: Crawl Bear competition up the steep side of the bowl.  If a PAX taps out, he runs backward up the hill, and forward down the hill to the furthest remaining Crawl Bearer and repeat until all PAX are done.

HoneyDo Tribute: Derkin Wheelbarrows down the bowl and up the other side, with ab exercises mixed in.  Ab exercises included Flutterkicks, Freddie Mercurys, WW II Situps, MC Hammer American Hammers, American Hammers.

Tennis Court Triple Check: Plank, LBCs, run around tennis court.

    Merkin ROF

    COT

NMM: YHC’s Q skills were clearly rusty, and he appreciates the PAX for sticking with him.  Counting to 11,  dividing 11 PAX into two and three groups, leading new exercises, and Fudd’s clarifying questions contributed to a complex undertaking.

As YHC was securing the AO, a clown car emerged.   It was Ronnie, Love Seat, Keymaster, Slurpee, and FNG Rip from River Road Hills.  Soon after Fudd appeared, not looking a day over 40.  YHC sincerely appreciated the solidarity shown by the Tuckahoe region.

YHC is not sure who “won” the Crawl Bear competition.  Multiple criteria could apply: furthest distance, longest time Crawl Bearing, quickest to the top.  YHC believes Swirly and Sippy Cup (and maybe others?) crushed the entire hill.  YHC had to reign Sippy in from trying to immediately Bear Crawl back down.

Derkin Wheelbarrows + hills are no joke.  YHC nearly steered Bleeder into another downhill wheelbarrow, after which Fudd took over as wheelbarrow driver.

Flipper wants everyone to know that his invention of MC Hammer American Hammers occurred in the context of a previous silly workout led by YHC that appeared to be a tribute to 80s and 90s dance music.

    Announcements:

Congrats to TYA, LabRat, and Hardywood for completing their race this weekend.

Convergence this Saturday at GridIron 6am and 7am.

HDHH Wednesday.  In lieu of the hill run, meet at Kuba  Kuba Dos for a run around Tuckahoe at 5:30 followed by HDHH.   Kids on bikes are welcome.

Prayers for EF Hutton and M’s family

  • Flow run back?

Four strong came out to Batteau on an end of summer morning. 3 PAX drove in, 1 ran in to the AO. We did:

COP – SSH, Don Qs, Flutterkicks, Merkins, Helicopters. Mosey to Tennis court.

Bear crawl to net, 15 Merkins, lunge to fence. 5 Burpees. Crab Walk to net, 20 heels 2 Heaven, lunge to fence, 10 burpees. Broad jump to net, 15 Merkins, Broad jump to fence, 15 Burpees.

Model to bowl field. Jacobs Ladder from tree to tree across. Burpees up to 7. Mosey back to courts, various Mary. 3 sets 0f 20 LBCs, then head to playground for 3 sets of 5 Pull-ups. Circle up for some more mary.

Mosey to stage for 2 sets of AMRAP Derkins. Finish up with sprint full length of 41st St to Forest Hill, slow run back to flag (aka Flow Run). Little more Mary to kill the clock til 6:15.

    EF Hutton took us out.

NMS – Always good to Q when YHC is the slowest PAX member there, the 3 other pax were ready to move this morning. The 10 counts called were to let YHC figure out what to do next.  Wasn’t planning on that many Burpees to start but why not. If you have not seen EF Hutton Bunny Hop you need to, dude can Bunny hop faster than he can run.

Sippy Cup misheard YHC to Slow run back to the flag from Forest Hill. Sippy heard “Flow Run” back and of course being Sippy he was in the lead heading back, did his best to improvise what a Flow run might  mean. Now YHC feels the need to actually create such an exercise.

Prayer requests – Pray for VT football victory this Saturday so the next week VT-Clemson game on 9/30 will be a 8 PM kickoff so EF Hutton can make Convergence that morning.

Great way to start the week!

  • Tired legs and a cracked rock

YHC took the Q on the fly this morning, after taking a look at Swirly and seeing that he not did have his usual pep (the BRR will do that to you).  The workout went something like:

    Mosey around circle:

COP.  DQs, Imperial Walkers, Helicopters, Push-Pull Squats, In place lunges, and Merkins.

Mosey to rock pile and take a rock.  20x rock throws, 20x tenderizers, 20x crossover merkins, 20x WWIIs with rock.

Mosey to tennis courts for: Merkin Plank-a-rama.  One Pax gets into elbow plank, while the second puts a heavy rock on the planker’s back and does 15 Merkins (on the court) and then removes the rock.  Flip roles and Repeat 4x.  Mosey around the tennis court.

Head back to do 20x tenderziers and 20x WWIs with rock.

Mosey to tennis courts for set 2 of Merkin Plank-a-rama.  Same as first time, but the Pax does 8x crossover pushups on a second rock.  3 sets.

Mosey to rock pile to put back rock.

Mosey to flag for: Cross leg lifts and Flutter kicks.

    COT–YHC took us out.

Moleskin.  Beautiful morning for a workout this am, and it was nice to be with Swirly who ran/walked/limped over from his house.  YHC focused on the core and arms this am to spare more beatings to his BRR shredded legs.  Swirly’s rock cracked in 1/2 during the rock throws, and that lightened his load a bit. The Merkin Plank-a-rama was a real crowd pleaser as both exercises came with some good dread.  It was also nice to hear a recap of the BRR.

  • COP in Swirly’s front yard

2 stalwarts posted on a labor day morning for a workout.

    The Thang::

Curb crawls with derkins and incline merkins.  Mosey to Swirly’s house with 10 squats at each telephone pole with run in betweens.  Halfway to his house, we switched to lunges between poles then followed by a run between poles.  Arrive at Swirly’s house.  Mosey to his front lawn for COP.  SSH x 20, LBC x20, Don Quixote x10, Imperial Walkers x 20.  Write notes on Swirly’s windshield, take the shovel flags from the back of the truck, prop one up near his truck and the other at this front door with the paper underneath.

Mosey back towards the park.  10 copperhead squats at each pole.  1/2 way back switch it up to 30 WWII setups at first pole, 30 carolina dry-docks at second and 30 squats at third.  Reduce number by 5 at each successive pole.  Arrive back at the AO and Mosey to front of building.  Elevens with dips and jump squats.  Mosey to start.  Flutter kicks x20, Rosalitas x20.  COT and out to coffeetaria.

    NMM

Showed up at the AO at 515, Bleeder, but no Swirly.  530 comes along, no Swirly.  TYA asks Bleeder who has the Q, finds out it was not taken, so TYA takes the lead, but both decide that a trip to Swirly’s was in order.  For the COP in front of the house, we had a typical COP, we called cadence, probably a little louder than we normally did.  About halfway through the COP, Bleeder looked at me with a big smile in the house and said “Two idiots in a friends front yard working out, yet it is so much fun”.  I could have stayed in the front yard and exercised for hours and been incredibly happy.  It is the little things in life that makes life fun.

Felt like the days of the past.  It has been since the early days of F3 RVA since there was a workout with just Bleeder and TYA.  Brought back memories of some of the first RAMM runs and a few other Mary workouts.  One good observation…we are a lot faster an in a lot better shape than we were back then.

    Coffeetaria was awesome..

    TYA Out.

    Moleskin

With the BRR less than 2 weeks out, YHC only knows that because my calendar say it, not because the blue ridge relay web site has a countdown clock..( why did they take that away!!!) YHC wanted to get a decent workout in, but not kill the PAX in a normal Bleeder style Beatdown.

Hardywood reported that Breaking bread was an awesome experience; If you want to sign up, see Lab Rat.

As the PAX was completing the second revolution around the lake, YHC and Hutton were on about the same pace, Hutton’s breathing style was claimed to be driven by Secondhand smoke when he was a child.

    What’s left of Bleeder out!
