It was a privilege to grill & serve a late summertime meal to the folks at Breaking Bread – headcount of 11 and there was a spirit of thankfulness amongst the crew. A few stories were shared between the guys and I’m looking forward to signing up for another round. Thanks to Oyster for his continued organization of the endeavor for the RVA region! Until next time – GP

No time for the YHC’s usual Breaking Bread homemade BBQ dinner today, so a pizza party it was! More than enough pizza, salad, desserts and drinks for 10 wonderful souls. Always an honor to do this near my birthday and to do it with my kids. Garbage Plate has it tomorrow evening! Sign up! Kubota
9 guests, one worker, and one guest join in Personhood to celebrate the latest edition of Breaking Bread. Conditions were 70 and sunny. According to the sweet older lady who YHC has seen several times over the years, the following might have been served. Baked ham, King’s Hawaiian rolls, Dad’s Mashed Potatoes (🥔 Upchuck’s version), and green beans (UpChuck’s version). Many thank you’s were expressed for F3, whether lasagna or this evening’s dinner. Those folks love them some F3 (as does Sharon, the new Barbara). No numbers, no names, but a gentleman, out of nowhere, said a wonderful blessing. If…
Up the steps to the back door, YHC was greeted by a full house. Twelve men and women are staying at the Daily Planet Respite program this weekend. When the group is this large, it’s time for Italian: a sheet pan of lasagna, a couple of loaves of garlic bread, a big salad, watermelon, and some chocolate chip cookies. Meeting some of the friendliest people around is just what YHC needed. YHC didn’t have the bandwidth for a FULL homecooked meal. But baked some garlic bread, scooped pasta salad and banana pudding from Kroger, then the star of the meal – ZAXBY TENDERS (with enough sauce to drown them). I’ve never ordered 40 tenders from Zaxby’s – but I think YHC cleaned em out! Sharon and the group at Daily Planet were awesome. Hung out with the group for a little while – who were all super thankful and they absolutely brightened my day. What a great opportunity to serve. Props to @oyster for keeping this great outreach program moving. 2…
Homemade baked ziti was the main course this Saturday at the Daily Planet. Homemade by my wife Laura which means it is really good. We also brought Caesar salad, bread and a peach pie from Kroger. We were not able to stay but were glad to do anything we could to help.
Saturday – June 29th… Who can help provide a few meals to the Daily Planet for Breaking Bread? What is Breaking Bread:F3 Richmond has been supporting the Daily Planet for over 6 years (Think of this somewhere between our 2nd F and 3rd F). The Daily Planet is a local non-profit providing medical respite for individuals who are homeless, offering a safe place to recover from medical needs. They rely on community support to provide meals during this recovery. This is where F3 Richmond steps in — we proudly take the last weekend (Sat/Sun) of each month to provide meals…
I really enjoyed my first breaking bread experience. Faces and voices conveyed gratitude and thanks, hearty fried chicken, sides, tea and desert sated the body. My cup was also filled. Serving others, with kindness and humility, makes the world a better place. If you haven’t given breaking bread a try, you won’t regret it, and you will want to return to do it again.
YHC and Swoop teamed up for breaking bread this weekend. On our drive to/from we covered our usual topics that we typically discuss over morning coffees after workouts — mindset, principles learned from faith, gratitude, drive, and the importance of instilling those characteristics in our children. Breaking Bread always finds a way to create the clarity and focus for what matters most in life. Giving back, being grateful for all the goodness in your life, and looking out for others when they’re most in need.
YHC’s birthday is tomorrow, and man was it a gratifying gift to be able to cook dinner for 11 residents at The Daily Planet. I took the time to allow my daughters to help with the grocery shopping, cooking and delivery of the food. I explained to them the small blessings of life that we take for granted each and every day. We truly are blessed and don’t appreciate all that we have, but being able to provide for those that don’t have much, if anything really makes you take a step back and opens your eyes. YHC and 2.0s…
