  • Pasta for everyone

6 Breaking Bread regulars were met with excessive quantities of pasta, salad, rolls, and cookies. When Machismos family gets into it gets ugly. YHC and 2 2.0s led the delivery ops while the Machismos M did the meal prep. Mrs. M misread the cookie recipe that would have provided more than enough and she doubled it. Likewise when 1 tray of pasta and meatballs would have been plenty YHC brought two.

12 rolls would have been plenty but not for Machismo. He brought 24. You get the point. Upon opening the doors YHC was met with staff who politely led us to the kitchen where there was ample room to get creative.

Staff on call lit the range so Machiman could drizzle loads of butter over the rolls and there was plenty of cookware should one choose to put on a breakfast for dinner.

Climb the discrete stairs to this AO and you’ll certainly find a good time with some appreciative people. YHC has the following observations. Be prepared for one on one’s, sit down and eat. 9 tables are arranged with 2 chairs each. Residents tend to take the side facing the TV so you’ve got to serve quick and grab a seat. Queso sat with a nice man who would cleaned the salad of all the tomatoes and threw away the spinach. Machismo got a nice conversation with a lady who graduated from Freeman and enjoys creative writing. Two men didn’t want money just tickets to see Ben playing soccer.

Follow the stairway up to good times a good fellowship. You’ll leave with clear eyes and full hearts you can’t loose.

  • EasyQ BBQ

5 of the most wonderful people I know joined YHC to break bread with about 10 more amazing individuals.

Warmarama: Pulled BBQ Chicken, ColeSlaw, Buns, Mac & Cheese, Green Beans, Yams, Cookies, Tea and Lemonade.

The Thang: With the unexpected warm weather, it was perfect timing for an old favorite. Hot off the Smoker – Pulled BBQ chicken, Mac & Cheese and a couple of other sides, dessert and drinks. It was the perfect comfort meal to share.

Moleskin: One of my best friends from high school wanted to get the families together on Sunday. Well, I said, “I have the perfect place in mind”, but we’ll have to bring the food and about 10 more will be joining us. Without hesitation, he asked “what can we bring”.

The 2.0’s had a great time serving meals to everyone. They both made cookies – which were a big hit. I’m grateful we had the chance to stay and break bread together, what a great way to close out 2024, surrounded with good food and good people.

Breaking Bread is on the Q sheet, don’t miss it for 2025. Let’s Go!!

OYSTER – my cup is overflowing.

  • Craft Clan Rises to The Challenge

Bottoms Up Pizza Friday night, The Craft Clan produced a wonderful grocery list for Breaking Bread. Knowing Flatline was working Saturday, the plan was laid out! After dinner, to the grocery store I went!

Flatline’s M and 2.1 cooked the spaghetti and 2 pans made-Alfredo with broccoli and Marinara Sauce! Thank goodness for bagged Caesar’s salad x 3, 2 bags of cookies, Pepsi 2 Liter and 2L of Sweet Tea.

All packed up and delivery at 1730. Willey provided delivery service and security for M.

Providing for those that are less fortunate is a fantastic lesson for our children. For Flatline and M, our tank is filled. Oyster, thank you for “making” me Q Breaking Bread!

    Loud and Proud.

  • Football Fans Galore

The Splinter abode planned and prepared a meal for Breaking Bread this past Sunday. After much discussion, chicken parmesan, green beans, biscuits, and cookie brownies were offered. After the aroma wafted through the car for the 17 minute drive to belt boulevard, we unloaded and served for this week’s guests.

    Moleskin

Who knew there would be such passion towards football this Sunday? Prime Time appeared in his Eagles sweatshirt, prompting much discussion about the close games of the afternoon. Especially pleased was the gentleman wearing the Chiefs jacket, happy his team squeaked out yet another win.

Oyster and Upchuck say this plenty, this is an easy #3rd F opportunity for you and the rest of the family.

    Splinter out.

  • Breaking Bread with BBQ Chicken

My 16 yo 2.0 daughter helped me cook up a chicken BBQ feast with Mac n cheese and salad for the folks at The Daily Planet. She drove, we delivered. It was great to serve. If you haven’t done BB yet – sign up, tag team and do it.

  • 10-26-24 Breaking bread

For this evening’s meal, a family pasta classic was in order here. Cajun Chicken Polska Kielbasa Pasta in a cream sauce was the main dish. Had Salad, garlic bread as sides and Brownies for dessert. All homemade from scratch.

This was an honor to prepare.

  • Yes Chef!

YHC’s 2.0 likes to cook from time to time, especially for school volunteer hours.  Here’s what was served:

    • Free range artisanal chicken breast filets lightly battered and fried with optional tangy barbecue glaze
    • Fresh seasonal fruit diced and drizzled with a sweet lemon reduction
    • Crispy kettle cooked sliced potatoes dusted with salt and barbecue spice
    • Vanilla mousse parfait layered with sliced organic bananas and wafers and finished with a light crème fraiche topping and wafer crumbles
    • Squeezed lemons combined with raw cane sugar and natural spring water served over cubed ice

    Numberama, Nameorama, COT

    MOLESKIN

Nailed it!  Always a pleasure to give back.

  • More like Breaking Tortillas

Saturday evening’s edition of Breaking Bread was a heaping helping of Mexican fare, with plenty of tortillas, shredded cheese, salsa, seasoned ground beef and diced tomatoes and onions for all 12 being served. This was washed down w/ a few 2 liters of soda followed by a variety of cookies for dessert. Food was dropped off to a dimly-lit room, with a more-talkative-than-usual bunch, greeting & thanking us while checking out some college football. The M and I then headed out for a hot date. Side note: Apparently, you should date your M or someone else will.

Perhaps the coolest part was getting my 9-year-old son, Jack, in the kitchen. He was browning beef, chopping vegetables, packing items up and I believe, feeling very proud of himself. These are the moments you know that F3 is much more than just burpees and coffee.

    Tonight, Hutton’s up.

  • Breaking bread & grilled chicken

It was a privilege to grill & serve a late summertime meal to the folks at Breaking Bread – headcount of 11 and there was a spirit of thankfulness amongst the crew. A few stories were shared between the guys and I’m looking forward to signing up for another round. Thanks to Oyster for his continued organization of the endeavor for the RVA region!

    Until next time – GP

  • Pizza Party!

No time for the YHC’s usual Breaking Bread homemade BBQ dinner today, so a pizza party it was! More than enough pizza, salad, desserts and drinks for 10 wonderful souls. Always an honor to do this near my birthday and to do it with my kids.
