The PAX remained covered and dry today.  Great work and our arms should be sore later on.  We certainly missed the rest of the PAX today.  For those that fart-sacked, an injured 70 year-old made you look like weak sissies today.

Announcements – check Slack for updates on happy hours, caroling, and upcoming special work-outs.

Prayers up for our PAX members nursing injuries and needing healing.

God is good all of the time!

  • Oval Corners

8 seasoned kettle bell warriors descended on the slightly warm and wet confines of the far West End. As Pigskin was arriving the workout went like this:

COP: DQs, helicopters, merkins, FMs, and ACs. Mosey to bus loop.

I called it four corners but someone had to point out that an oval has no corners. Either way, we did 10 of an exercise went 1/4 the way around the loop, did 20, went 1/4 round the loop, etc.

    10 burpees

20 sit and press. White Deer complained about getting wet even though he wears several layers.

    30 overhead pulls

    40 overhead presses – take a lap

    50 bench presses

    60 curls for the ladies

    70 2 count flutters (in 2 sets)

80 lawn mower pulls (in 2 sets)

    90 SSHs

    100 – sumo squats (in 4 sets)

    110 – LBCs (in 3 sets – 40, 40, 30)

120 – one count American Hammers

Finish with 5 burpees and more DQs to loosen us old farts up. Some happy hours are happening including one where HoneyDo displays his angelic voice with Christmas tunes at Fudd’s. Prayers for Pigskin to recover from his back issues and for comfort/peace for Attila’s ailing mother n’ law. Mike White for MVP. Do good things gentlemen.

  • High Rep Thursday

Seven noble warriors embraced the gloom and their KBs at Circus Maximus.  Here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • SSH
      • IW
      • DQ
      • Helicopters
      • Arm circles – small & big
      • Merkins
      • LBC
      • APD
    • One man KB Dora – divide each exercise into 5 sets of reps, with a run down the bus loop between sets
      • 100 sit ‘n presses
      • 150 sumo squats
      • 200 lawnmower pulls
      • 250 presses (had to cut short to 200 due to time)
    • COT with YHC taking us out

Great work from the PAX today.  We missed the pioneer of RVA triple respect, Pigskin, today.  Get healthy brother!   Great work from the PAX with this high rep workout.

Remember the shoe drive in December.  Check Slack or reach out to Gypsy with questions.

God is good all of the time!

  • White Deer’s Detachable Penis

White Deer agreed to lead the 2022 Thanksgiving Kettle Bell “Convergence” as long as I wrote it up. Conversations included bulging and detachable body parts, slow firing neurons, not missing Attila’s gas and Johnsonville reminiscing of the early days of this AO.

Since White Deer thinks Slack is only something he does not give to anyone, I will mostly make up the rest since he will never read this (but he will still tell me I did it wrong).

Warmups included White Deer SSH (moving one leg at a time), arm circles, APDs, DQ and probably something else.

We then did a Beast that included Curls, Overhead presses, Overhead Triceps, Sit and Presses, High Pulls and Squats (not in that order).

Runners then did 2 laps of the circle and walkers walked less.

We ended with 20 reps of Curb Pulls and then Floor Presses and then repeat.

White Deer led us in a round of thanks. I’m thankful for anyone who got his far in my write-up.

  • The Deck Takes the Q

Seven noble warriors accepted the fate presented by the 54 cards in a deck.  With KBs in tow, here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • SSH
      • IW
      • Dead man hang
      • Helicopters
      • Arm Circles
    • KB Deck of Death, 12 reps for each suit
      • Hearts – KB curls (156)
      • Diamonds – High pulls (156)
      • Clubs – Sit ‘n press (156)
      • Spades – Overhead pulls (156)
      • Joker – Burpees (24)
    • COT with YHC taking us out

Great work by the PAX.  Offshore was more sassy than usual, but the deck usually brings that out in someone.  Prayers for healing for Pigskin.  Great to be with these men to start the day.

God is good all of the time!

  • No Music

I signed up for the Q the other day but forgot that today is the day. No problem. Other than a lack of response to Whitesnake’s music last week, I can make up a workout pretty quickly. And so, it went like this:

    20 Swings

    20 Hammer Curls

    20 Upright Rows

    20 Triceps

    YHC with the take-out

Last comment: One our members reported that he and his wife have an annual discussion. She complained that he wakes her up in the morning to go workout. And so, we apparently will be seeing less of him. That’s a loss, not just for him but for us as well. However, the “annual review” concept is interesting. Jokes aside (“satisfactory performance, 2% pay increase”), this idea has merit.

  • Spandex Nation

9 headbangers came to Circus Magazine’s inaugural kettlebell workout. According to the groupies, the setlist went something like this:

Animal, Def Leppard: warmups of SSH, Arm Circles, Helicopters, Crunchy Frogs

Nothin’ But A Good Time, Poison: Walk to the courtyard and do some curls for the girls until the song ends

Dr. Feelgood, Motley Crue: Rotate through 10 Goblet Squats, 10 Guitar Strums, 10 merkins until the song ends

Dude Looks Like a Lady, Aerosmith: 10 Curtsey lunges with bell, 10 Swingers, 10 Jazzercise (no bell) each side through the song

Lick it up, KISS: 10 Lawn Mowers each arm, 10 Goblet Squats, 10 Dips (no bell) through the song

Run to the Hills, Iron Maiden: Step Ups with Bell, run to the hills and back during the chorus and repeat

Still of the Night, Whitesnake: 10 two count hammers with bell, 10 Headbangers (skull crushers), 10 Tawny Kitean Prom Dates

Hells Bells, AC DC: 10 Bench Press, 10 Sit and press, 10 WWII (no bell)

The Final Countdown, Europe: Partner up. One does Burpees while the other does a courtyard lap and switch

Here I Go Again, Whitesnake: Walk back to the flag, on six for ~two minutes of 6 inches and then reverse crunches

Lots of mumble chatter about wives and girlfriends and girlfriends of wives. This great music brings it out. That and bad gas. Great to see Handshake and EF Hutton join the fan club. A famous rock star once said: “It’s such a fine line between stupid, and uh…clever”. Not sure which side of the line this workout was on but hope it was fun.

  • Bells and Colonoscopies

4 well oiled machines descended upon the quiet confines of Godwin high school for some work with kettle bells. It went like this:

COP: DQs, DMH, MCs, HRMs, FMs, ACs

E1: Elevens with coupon step ups – 2 count and coupon squats. Good leg workout my friends.

E2: Sit and press, tricep pull down, coupon flutters and the pacer runs around the loop. Do this twice.

E3: Four corners with 10 burpees, 20 high pulls, 30 tricep presses and 40 skull crushers.

E4: Couple sets of donkey kicks and balls to the wall, 15 and 20 DKs

E5: Three sets of lawnmower pulls for those back muscles – 10 each arm up to 20 each arm

    Finished with a little stretcheroonie.

Announcements: Beer mile on Saturday and looking for sign ups for breaking bread around Thanksgiving. Prayers for multiple PAX including recovery for Gypsy’s sister.

I brought up the topic of having a colonoscopy scheduled right after Thanksgiving meaning if a lot goes in a lot will need to go out. Then the discussion went to the fact that the reah is better than puking. Being upper middle age can suck. Go Jets! Beat those Patriots for once.

Prayers to all going through tough times.

  • He ain’t heavy

He’s just got a heavy kettlebell. Part way thru the 2nd set of 11s, various members of the Pax traded off and used Offshore’s kettlebell. A 45-pound kettlebell really does feel a lot heavier! Atilla gets to loaf some next time at Circus Maximus because he worked out the most with Offshore’s kettlebell (after Offshore).

Due to a mix-up in the weather, it rained (a little) today. Normally, if it rains, Fireman Ed is the Q. We need to change the Q forecast to “if it rains, a 90% chance that Fireman Ed is the Q”.

We need to improve the colors of our group. We had 2 white animals today (Snake and Deer); no Green Hornet, no Blue Moon. Maybe we need to name someone Purple Rain. I guess we could rename Lighthouse or Byproduct.

And today, I am the proud father of a 33-year-old daughter. I know she doesn’t read these writeups, but “Happy Birthday Johanna!”

So here’s how it went down.

    Warmup

SSHs, IWs, Ukrainian Soldiers, Don Quixote, stretch arms, stretch hamstrings.

20 High Pulls (single count): 20 Deep Mountain Climbers (Single count); 18 of each, 16 of each, etc.

    11s: Curls, Rifle carry, Swings

    Run around island

11s: Overhead presses, Farmer’s carry, Goblet Squats

    Run around island

    Stretch

    Heels to Heaven in cadence
