  • Noises in the gloom…..

Temps were a bit milder this AM with 52 and clear with no wind. Perfect conditions for a beatdown. 9 HIM left the comfort of their vehicles to circle up on the asphalt for a Fudd Q with KB’s. Here’s what happened:

COP – SSH, Don Quixote, Yoga poses, Merkins, Crunchy Frogs, Arm Circles, Hillbillies

Mosey to the back parking lot for a Farmers Carry Beast between the lampposts.

Exercises – KB swings, Goblet squats, Curls, Overhead Press, Tricep Extension, Romanian Deadlifts

Mosey back to the flag and get into groups of 3 for Triple Check: Counter runs a lap around the loop, 2nd and 3rd men do alternating clean/press and American Hammers.

Circle up near the flag for Mary: Flutter kicks holding KB extended, V ups with KB, LBC’s, Freddie Mercuries

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: Mumblechatter was relatively high today, mostly from one PAX member who will remain nameless, except to say that he is named after a certain type of antlered animal. Guidance on form began before the COP even started, but quickly died off once we were 7 or 8 reps into the SSH’s. In retrospect, it is encouraging that Q’s are held to a standard at this AO…..what would F3RVA come to if things were otherwise? Interesting comments aside, if one could be compensated for flatulence this individual would be a multi-millionaire. After asking if everything was OK from a medical perspective…..did he need me to buy him some Mylanta on the way home?……. YHC was assured from multiple PAX that this was just another Thursday morning in the gloom at Circus Maximus. Thank you boys……noted.

The PAX performed admirably today, and while this did not reach the pain threshold of an Offshore Q, the level of observed perspiration indicated a decent beatdown was experienced by all. Thanks for letting me lead fellas.

    Fudd out.

  • Just Paying Rent in Offshore’s World

When dealing with KBs, it is Offshore world, and the rest of us are just paying rent.  Offshore and his 45 lb. cannonball led the way today.  Here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • COP SSH
      • IW
      • DQ
      • Helicopters
      • Arm Circles
      • Dead man hang
      • Merkins
      • LBC
    • 11s with step-ups and KB hammers (2 count on both)
    • KB ladder – 5, 10, 15, 20 & 25 reps; adding an exercise on each rotation
      • Overhead pulls
      • Skull crushers
      • Sit ‘n press
      • Sumo squats
      • High pulls
      • Lawnmower pulls (each arm)
    • COT with YHC taking us out

Great work from the PAX today and major t-claps for Offshore for high weight/high reps.  He was the beast, almost doubling the weight used by certain member(s) of the PAX.

God is good all of the time!

  • Howdy, Partner

It was YHC’s first Q at Circus and with an even 6 attendees we did lots of partner work. After some quick warmups of SSH, IW, Hillbilly’s, Cherry Pickers, & DQ, we moseyed to the bus loop with a partner.

Catch me if you can: Partner A carried both kettle bells while Partner B did 10 hand release merkins and then caught up to Partner A and switched. Second time around the loop merkins were replaced with 20 LBCs. We then moseyed back to the parking lot and got a new partner..

100 Partner Burpees. Partner A carried both bells to the island, left them and ran back. Partner B did Burpees until A came back. Flapjack as B runs to the island and carries the bells back. Finished after the team did 100 burpees.

300, I mean 200 Partner Swings. Similar to above but Rifle Carry and Swings. Said 300 but had us stop at 200.

We did some helicopters for a break and then did some individual ladders:

    1. Waiter carry right hand 5 parking spaces, come back left hand waiter carry, then 10 standing chest presses. Then go to the 4th parking space and repeat down to one parking space.
    2. Same idea but with rifle carry and 10 standing Tricep presses/overhead extensions

Ended with some partner work at the picnic benches. Partner A does step ups with the bell, Partner B runs around a column at the front of the school and back. Flapjack. Finish after 200 step ups (100 each leg).

Definitely got the heart rate up this morning and my shoulders still haven’t recovered since Gridiron. Glad to give Atilla a break from Q and hope I am welcomed back (will sign up anyway…).

Prayer requests: White Deer has Covid and Whitesnake (me) got the “your position has been eliminated” call just yesterday. So pray for all our white animal friends.

See you all at the Convergence on Saturday at 7:30 Pouncey Track Park/Gridiron.

  • Return of the Lucky Bus Loop

The PAX continues to persevere without our elder stateman, Pigskin.  YHC took another Q in hopes of one day achieving his greatness.  Here is how it went down:

      • DQ
      • Helicopters
      • Arm circles
      • Stretches
      • Merkins
      • LBC
      • APD
    • Lucky bus loop – 4 stops, 15 reps per exercise, add an additional exercise with each stop
      • Lawnmower pulls – 120 reps
      • Sit ‘n press – 105 reps
      • Overhead pulls – 90 reps

  • Beast Week – Part Deux

A lucky PAX of 7 embraced the KB gloom for a beginning of school year beat-down.  Here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • SSH
      • Ukrainian soldiers
      • Dead man hang
      • Helicopters
      • Arm circles
      • Stretch
      • Merkins
      • LBC
    • KB Beast – different exercise and different means of traversing the length of the bus loop
      • Sit ‘n press and KB carry
      • High pulls and right-hand overhead carry
      • Curls and left-hand overhead carry
      • Swings and death crawl
      • Tricep press and weighted lunges
      • Halos and around the world
    • COT with YHC taking us out

YHC is making his week of Qs “Beast Week.”  Wonder what is in store for Saturday at Gridiron…

Death crawls suck!   Also, t-claps to Offshore for having a weight that matches his non-hate age.

Safe travels Pigskin!  No trimming or shortening of the mustache while you are away.

Convergence on Monday at Dogpile at 7 am.

Good is good all of the time!

  • Better Late than Never

Under the better late than never category, we did kettle bells 2 weeks ago.   It had everyone complaining.  Here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • SSH
      • DQ
      • IW
      • Arm circles
      • Helicopters

YHC has been on vacation since the workout.  This prepared his body for a week on the lake.  Everyone else was sore.  You’re welcome!

  • Darth Tater

8 for Circus Maximus today. Three days in a row for our recent FNG, Lasso. Lasso is Lighthouse’s niece’s husband. Great to have him! Great to have Fireman Ed back from vacation. The highlight from his vacation was without a doubt, the visit to the Potato Museum in Idaho. Maybe followed by the 40-degree nights. However, lately temperature wise in Richmond, I can’t complain, especially for August.

I forgot my kettlebell. Byproduct offered me his and was going to take the 20-pound KB I use to anchor the flag. But fortunately, Whitedeer had an extra 25-pound KB. The great thing about kettlebells is that it’s like a handicap with golf. You can compensate with the weight of the KB so everyone is equal. Sometimes, I feel guilty only handling a 25-pound bell when Offshore has a 45-pound bell. But I am able to get over it.?

    We started with a warmup:

SSHs, Ukrainian Soldiers, Don Quixote, stretch arms, stretch hamstrings.

20 High Pulls (single count): 20 Deep Mountain Climbers (in cadence); 18 of each, 16 of each, etc.

    Stretch and catch breath

Slingshot 10 each direction (around body)
Halo 10 each direction (handle points up in front, upside down in back)
Single Arm Deadlift (Keep back and legs straight, bend at waist, KB on ground to KB at waist) 10 each side
Single Leg Deadlift 10 each leg (Same leg goes up as the arm with the kettlebell, try to maintain balance)
Turkish Getup 5 each side (leg bent at knee is the same side as upraised arm)
Run around Island Oyster backed off at the last letting me have first place. What a pearl of guy!
Goblet Squat 20 in total (handles pointing down, deep squat)
    Racked squat 10 each side
    Racked lunge 10 each side
Alternating Single arm swing 20 in total
Clean and Press 10 each side (start with KB on ground, bend knees, keep KB close to body)
    Run around island
    Squat and Press
Bottom up Clean 10 each side (KB upside down at rack, hold 5 seconds)
Overhead squat 10 each side (KB held with arm straight above head)
    Curls 20 each
Snatch 10 each side (Start with KB between legs, End with KB above head.)

Waiter’s carry to the flag. 20 flutters in cadence, 60 second leg raise. Finish

    Numberama, namerama, announcements

    Announcements:

The Crucible this Saturday at 7:30. Offshore has the Q. Blackwell Elementary, south of the James. Byproduct reported that Labrat rode 18 miles on his bicycle recently. How wonderful!

    Takeout by YHC.

  • Is that made up? That sounds made up.

“Is That Made Up? It Sounds Made Up.” National Lampoon’s Vacation – You

The joggers making laps around Godwin encouraged the PAX through a beatdown that went something like this:

COP: SSHs, IWs, DQs, Merkins, Hello Dollies, Reverse Crunches, Imperial Squat Walkers IC

Mosey to door number 13. 13 Curls and 1 Squat Thruster.

Mosey to door number 12. 12 Tricep Extensions and 2 Squat Thrusters.

Continue around the building, conducting exercises based on the door number followed by Squat Thrusters. The PAX made it to door number 1, then 23, 22, …, 18 before time ran out. 19.5 rounds, so up to 18 Squat Thrusters (?). Towards the end, we sprinkled a lap around the bus loop, Arm Circles, Helicopters, etc.

    COT

Announcements: New AO The Crucible in Manchester at Blackwell Elementary this Saturday at 7:30am. See Slack for more details.

NMS: This beatdown was inspired by White Deer inspired by Doozy to take a tour of the doors. YHC lost count, but is fairly certain that there are 23. YHC can confirm that the dude walking the wrong way down Pump is miraculously still alive. Strong work by the PAX today. It was great to be back in the fold after vacation last week.

  • Upsized my bell

9 warriors descended upon the friendly confines of MG looking to do some bell sculpting. One PAX was really proud of going from a 25 pound bell to 35 pounds and I with my 30 pound bell am jealous.

COP: Invisible jump rope, DQs, Scorpion kicks, FMs, ACs.

E1: Curb crawl revised with a coupon to drag and instead of merkins do sit and presses.

E2 and 3: Roll a die and do one of the following exercises depending on roll. Burpees, sit and press, coupon flutters, bench press, bicep curls, shoulder press, lawnmower pulls, tricep press, coupon squats, derkins and more burpees.

We went through 3 x with a run around the loop in between and at the end and at the beginning. Lots of ground covered for a KB workout.

Finished with 3 sets of DKs (15, 20, 25) and some MCs, something I thought of on the spot and some stretcheroonie.

Praise and prayers for Lab Rat, Pinto, Blue Moon and friend of White Deer’s named Mark.

Good to lead even with a few workout complaints from the PAX.

Happy Birthday By Product. Free coffee for you.
