  • There’s Some Hills ‘Round These Parts

6 Southsiders and 1 Traveler from the West Coast UNITED at Twin Team for another epic adventure. Here is a brief summary for your viewing pleasure:

Mosey to the basketball area for Warm up:
Ukranian Soldiers, Suzanne Somers (one side only), Arm Circles, Mummy Kicks, Alabama Prom Dates, Hand Release Merkins, Mario Jumps, Butt Kicks.

Back to the flag for coupon retrieval and Exercise One:

    6 Exercises plus a runner.

Runner does a lap around Bettie Weaver. Others complete the following for the duration: Sumo Squats w/Kettlebell, Tricep Extension w/dumbbell, Shoulder press w/dumbbell, Lawnmower pulls with Kettle, WWII sit-ups with medicine ball, Balls to the Wall. We rotated until everyone had done each leg.

Mosey to Twin Team Hill for Exercise Two: On the way up, 10 flutter kicks (2 count) at the first mailbox. Add two to each additional mailbox. On the way down, same pattern but plank jacks.

Suzanne Somers on the other side.

Jumping Herpees to the end of the road, jog back. Lunge walk then mosey back to the flag.

Final thoughts: It was a great honor to welcome Chef Boyardee who is part of F3 Sacramento. Apparently that part of California may be less humid with minimal hills. Strong work by all today! A school employee walked past me as I was doing Balls to the Wall – only thing I could think to say was “just hanging out.”

  • Ahhhh, That Nostalgic Smell of Brick Dust in the Morning

What do you get when you mix sweat, brick dust, and a glorious 70 degree sunrise? Well friends, that’s the Forge beating HIM’s into razor sharp blades for massive Kingdom impact. Forever written into the anals of the revered Smokefest Scrolls, this routine will be one to tell the grandchildren:

    • YHC took the PAX out in Prayer

NMS: We may never use our thumbs again, but it was worth it! Shout out to JUDGE celebrating his 33rd Birthday today – YHC hopes you see this little workout as the best possible gift. The sky was unreal as we started the morning, and the sweat was pouring by the end. YHC had a moment of deep nostalgia while doing Brick Slide Merkins, as childhood memories of shooting cap guns filled my mind (apparently similar to the smell of brick dust on pavement). GREAT work today crushing this workout fellas – appreciate ya’ll investing the labor of love. SYITG, DTH

  • BrickSLayer

The NoToll PAX cheered with excitement (or maybe it was nervous laughter) to each collect two bricks from YHC’s truck. With the consensus of watches suggesting 0530, the newest members of the Olympic SOJ bricklaying team moseyed to the basketball court for a hot date with Sally…

    The THANG:

    WARMERAMA:

    • Welcome & F3 Disclaimer
    • Music: SALLY UP, SALLY DOWN – the PAX holds bricks overhead beginning in a squat position (that’s the default), then stands UP and squats DOWN in accordance to the lyrics (Ouch!!!)
    • A few other IC sets to stretch things out

    COP #1:

    • Mosey to the Tennis Court
    • EMOM TIMER: with rockin’ beats playing in the background, PAX followed the EMOM timer to perform x3 exercises, switching every 20 seconds, for a total of 10 minutes
    • With bricks in each hand, PAX rotates between Plank Punches, American Hammers, & Sweat Angels ?

Brief intermission sans-bricks to mosey back and close the back of YHC’s truck

    COP #2:

    • Mosey to Field #1
    • Triple Check: with music blasting & bricks in hand, PAX rotate between Bleacher Step-ups, Burpees, and Running across field & back

    • Lunges, Dancing Bears, Hallelujah Flutters
    • Got about 7min done before time ran out

    COT:

    • Counterama # 10
    • Namerama
    • Announcerama (see Comments)
    • CHAPLAIN took the PAX out in Prayer

NMS:  In reviewing the madness we had endured, the consensus is thus: PAX will always modify, but they are more likely to modify a really hard workout to be more manageable, than they would ever modify a easy workout to be harder. For YHC, digging deep to lead by example without modification and in best possible form, this was a REALLY challenging workout. But MAN it felt good! YHC’s bricks ended up in an old laundry basket for transport today, but still not optimal – gonna have track down some sturdy milk crates and make the Bricks&Beats routine a regular showcase. SYITG! ~DTH

  • Sunday Ruck

4 Ruckers took to the streets around Mumford to find some hills and good conversation. Variations in footwear, ruck styles, and attire did not slow us down.

Doozy got a good tour of the area in the light since he is only familiar with the 45Mom area in the dark. Main discussion centered around whether the ghost of Marcel Marceau still haunts the streets of Windsor Farms at night.

Sunday afternoon ruck the afternoon of the Super Bowl is on the calendar. Come and burn some calories before the big game.

  • Just the Two of Us

YHC and Mr. Rogers launched at the stroke of 8pm with our packs filled with weight. Bricks, cinderblocks. It all adds up.

The route covered the rolling hills of the Ruckahoe region including the scenic flats of Westham Station. Numerous deer were seen, other wildlife, as well as inquisitive neighbors asking if we were “out for a hike”. 1:45 total time covering 5.83 miles.

Great conversation and getting to know Mr. Rogers.

Interested in joining? Let us know and we will put you on the list.

  • Starbucks and Swingers

A quintet of early risers descended upon the River Road Baptist Church parking lot to see what YHC had in store. No rain, but the dewy thickness of August was certainly present. 5 am sharp and no lights needed, lets begin:

Mosey to church patio for warmarama that included the following: Dead Man Hang, DQ’s, Helicopters, Plank Jacks, Heels to Heaven and the ever popular Scorpion Kicks (still not sure what this accomplishes). Everyone seemed warm, lets move.

    THE THANG:

Mosey to church parking lot for 7 of Diamonds. 4 corners of the parking lot with the following exercises at each corner. FRB (Front/Fast Running Bastard) picks the resting exercise until the arrival of the six. Exercises included 7 Hand Release Merkins, 14 2 count Ball Dippers, 21 World War II’s, 28 Monkey Humpers (for those regulars on vacation), 21 American Hammers (2 count), 14 Carolina Dry Docks, 7 Burpees (by popular demand).

Mosey across River Road to small parking lot to collect coupons. TABATA time. 45 seconds of exercise 15 seconds of rest. 4 rounds of each exercise then run a lap. Exercises included Chest Press w/coupon (run a lap), Block Pulls w/ coupon (run a lap), Alabama Softball Players (thank you Honeydo for the rename) – return coupons then run a lap. BTTF.

Numbers, Names, Announcements. YHC took us out. Upchuck and Oyster headed off for coffee afterwards.

Lot going on in September. See slack for details. Prayers for Upchuck as he travels to the Northwest for family vaca. Prayers to those in Afghanistan. Thank you gentlemen for the opportunity to lead. This is a great group of guys that always brings joy to my day.

NMS: Good to Oyster as he continues on the summer tour. 2 stops left – crushing it. Not much mumble chatter outside of some complaints on the modify selections by some of the PAX. Burpees should not be considered a resting exercise. TABATA with coupons was more difficult than imagined. YHC will rethink of more social exercises in the future. Title comes from the text chatter as many of the regulars are on vaca this week. New Starbucks coming to River Road Shopping center. Seems Handshake and his M have found F3 and Fia neighbors at the beach.

  • Acadia with 2.0 Coupons

YHC has spent a glorious 5 days with the M + 2.0’s + brother John (AKA “Flint”) on Mount Desert Island (Maine), enjoying all that Acadia has to offer. Among many hiking/boating/swimming/fishing adventures, today’s rigorous climb to the summit of St Sauveur Mtn (679’), carrying one or both 2.0 “coupons” was quite the workout worthy of a backblast. The frequent near-vertical rock scrambles made the going a bit hairy, but YHC had the occasional breather picking blueberries along the way, and the views of Somes Sound were breathtaking. The descent was killer on the quads, and we were all exhausted when we reached the bottom. Of course, since we found ourselves about a mile from where we parked, YHC volunteered to complete the workout with a sprint to retrieve the vehicle and maintained a sub-7-min pace on the mile. This was exactly the vaca YHC has been aching for – thanks be to God. SYITG, YHC, Tryhard

  • No Toll Wagon Wheel

6 Veteran No Toll Regulars and 1 FNG fought off the fart sack this morning to tackle the dewey fields of No Toll. This is what was rumored to have occured according to the dog walkers that witnessed with curiousity.

Short mosey to the lush fields of No Toll for F3 disclaimer for the new attendee and a quick Warm up with exercises that included helicopters, dead man hang, cherry pickers, plank jacks, elbow plank, plank curls (new exercise with a working title) & LBC’s.

Short Mosey to the pavilion for the Thang:

Starting at the pavilion each PAX member ventures out to one of 10 flags laid out on the corners of the field to perform 25 reps of prescribed exercise. After each round, return to pavilion to perform 25 dips or 25 derkins (personal choice), rinse and repeat until all 10 stations have been completed. Exercises included American Hammers (2 count), Squats, Heels to Heaven, SSH, WWII’s, Flutter Kicks (2 count), Curls for the Girls, Squat Thrusts, Arm Circles (with coupons) & Lt. Dans. Doozy led the 6 while YHC and Bullseye cleaned up.

Still time on the clock, short mosey back to Field 1 for Dora. 100 Hand Release Merkins, 200 Box Jumps, 300 Jump Squats. Timer runs across field and back. Audible called for time during Box Jumps. BTTF for Merkin Ring of Fire and quick Ab Mary of APD, Dollies & Rosalitas. Numbers, Names – Welcome Burnout, Announcements. YHC took us out.

NMS: Numbers were a bit lower at No Toll with the Summer Tour and the Ultimate Frisbee happening at Heartbreak. Still strong showing from some SOJ regulars. YHC wanted to get on the Q sheet to avoid a 3rd week straight of a brutal Doozy/Posey Q. PAX seemed very happy the audible was called before 300 jump squats. Wagon Wheel workout takes its toll on the shoulders (arm circles with coupons are brutal).

YHC received a text late last night from an FNG he has been recruiting for months that he wanted to come out to boost his cardio. YHC does not do cardio workouts but added a bit more to oblige. Welcome Burnout, another VMI graduate to add to the PAX. Look forward to seeing you back out shortly. Alwasy in honor to lead you fellas. Enjoy your day.

  • Not Iron Pax, Frozen Pax

Eight strong took on the gloom to see what a COVID-free YHC beatdown would look like. Here is what was served up:

COP: SSH, Russian Soldiers, Freddy Mercurys, Merkins, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey down to coupon drop zone and over to middle of field for Frozen PAX.

Loop of: Start from center of field, run to benches – 10 Derkins. Run to concession stand – 20 Donkey Kicks. Run to other benches – 30 Bench Kicks. Back to middle of field and grab coupon – 40 Swings. That’s one round. Repeato but increase reps at each station by 5. Keep going for 25 minutes. Totals were 100 Derkins, 150 Donkey Kicks, 200 Benchkicks, 250 Swings.

As PAX finished at 25 minutes – 5o Block presses. Deposit coupons back then return to field – Sprints, bear crawls, and backwards run. Back to flag for 2 min of Mary.

NMS – Nice to have a solid 8 out this morning. YHC wanted to a circuit timed beatdown with coupons. PAX dominated it with Handshake and Lighthouse setting the pace. All PAX completed 5 rounds around the same time as the Coupon Swings slowed down the faster PAX. At the start some PAX mentioned that Iron PAX workouts were for September not January. Bacon Bits put in solid work and continues to get stronger. This Frozen PAX circuit will make an appearance again this winter.

Ronnie created a slight breach of etiquette in the COT by having the numberama go to the right rather than left. This took some PAX to grasp.

Prayers for the country and patience this week.

  • To be, or not to be (snipped)

Six strong in search of snow found none but instead found their way to the bottom of South Ridge with gifts of Coupons and 40 minutes to make it back to the top. Along the way stories were shared of the status of various PAX’s Vas Deferens.

COP at Triangle Park: SSH, Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, Merkins, LBCs. Mosey down to bottom of Ridge hill (aka Vas Deferens Hill) and find 4 of the heavy coupons. Partner up for various exercises making upward progress on the hill:

1st Round: Run & Lunge n’ Press with Coupon.

2nd Round: Run with coupon 80 yards, then drop and do 40 Block Presses. Other man bear crawls and flapjack.

3rd Round: Bernie Sanders up while other does Block Swing walk.

4th Round: Run 100 yards then do 10 WWIIs. Other man murder bunnies with block and flapjack until done.

5th Round: Run 100 yards then 20 merkins, while man with coupon Bernie Sanders up the hill.

6th Round: Take block to Triangle Park and do 20 Sit & Press while other does Crab Walk. Flapjack until done.

Deposit Coupons back and finish with snow day sprints in the middle of River Rd. Back to flag, announcements & YHC took us out. In spirit of the morning PAX said their Snipped Date instead of age.

NMS: As Handshake noted at the start 6 is perfect PAX number for First Watch. YHC arrived early to deposit the coupons at the bottom of Ridge but Kubota was already in the lot at 4:40 so he knew what to expect. YHC opted for the legit sized Coupons not the mini-blocks Upchuck uses.

Lots of good mumblechatter stories going up the hill as Handshake had primed the pump with his query on Sunday on Slack. The PAX was split 50/50 in the COT on the status of their Vas Deferens. Also Kubota provided an update that he is moving back up to 2020 out of the 1950’s Ozzie & Harriet sleeping arrangements, although there seemed to be some trepidation in his voice about this. Bacon Bits is 1 week out from Baby #2 slated arrival so he seemed to be taking notes on the morning’s topic.

YHC confesses he “borrowed heavily” from Upchuck on this workout as he had previously done it this summer. Starting at the bottom of this half mile hill with coupons does take almost exactly 45 minutes with a brief COP at the top. Twin Team may have better marketing with the Sisyphus stylings of Mr. Holland but tackling S Ridge in the Gloom is a taller challenge.

Annoucements: HDHH at Hardywood West Creek is still on as of now. Snow seems to be a no-show but watch slack if this changes. See you at 5:00.
