  • Count to 11

9 redwoods from across RVA found the Atlee High School parking lot at 0630 and residents of the GIles Farm neighborhood may seen some of the following after a typical warmarama in the parking lot.

Mosey across the street into Giles Farm stopping a couple of times for various exercises at the intersections along the way. Find the clubhouse parking lot and utilize the perfect 9 for a Triple check with a loop around the lot, jump squats, and heels to heaven. Circle to the back of the lot to head down the trail but a pull up station required a pause for 5 each while everyone else knocked out 5 merkins for each of the PAX. Mosey down the trail across the bridge for Jacobs Ladder – 1 up to 7 burpees at the top – 5 squats at the bottom. Lunge part of the way back with some chatter about the changing neighborhoods of DaVille. Another triple check back in the parking lot – Monkey Humpers and Dollies. Mosey back to the flag with some stops along the way where the DaVillians learned how to count to 11, next year we’ll work on 12. Back in the parking lot a final triple check with curb plank walks and dying cockroaches. Finish up with some Mary to fill the last few minutes.

Great coffeeteria at the Local Cup with the PAX. Thanks for letting me venture up there and lead. The Summer Tourists had a great time. Oyster may be the first to finish the Summer Tour. Be on the lookout for a Mr. Holland visit to Twin Team.

Upcoming CSAUP opportunity – Homegrown Half Marathon and 10K at TwinTeam 8/19 See Slack for details.

  • Hot Air Balloons

As the SOJ takeover of Atlee High School commenced, hot air balloons floated up from the Hanover County Municipal Airport. And just like that , all 5 men made a pact to never go up in one of those dang things. A real bonding moment.

Long mosey back behind the school for a warmarama. DQs, helicopters, SSHs, hand-release mirkins, and then a series of signature SOJ hits like the Apple Bottom Poppers, Imperial Squat Walkers, oblique crunches, and the big hit Rosalita Dips.

Mosey across the fields to the football practice area where a convenient 5-man sled was there for the pushing. We pushed it in a big circle and then back again. Have to agree with Corned Beef, would not want to meet a lineman in a dark alley.

Mosey over to the strange jungle gym thing where we did a series of jerkins and shuffling across. Then a balls to the wall 15-count and then shuffled back across again.

Continuing with the spontaneity, we pulled out the tractor tire. One man called an exercise for everyone to do, while the person who called it out flipped the tire 5 times. All the way across the field with mirkins, squats, ball dippers, etc etc. Then back the way we came, except this time one person called out some ab exercises to get everyone laying down on the dewey grass. So then we just kept the abs going with nary a dry spot to be found.

Mosey back to the football field for a game of Snuff’s ‘cone flip or else.’ The goal of the game is to get the cone all the way across the parking lot. One at a time each man flips the cone forward, and if it lands right side up, 5 monkey humpers. If it falls over, 1 burpee for each time it has fallen over. A few clutch upright cone flips by Bulkhead and his low to the ground technique, and YHC who just flung it like a baseball bat. We made it across with only doing 6 burpees at the final flip for a modest total of 21.

Then some indigenous pole smokers while timer ran to the lightpost, switching up the exercises until we got all the way there, with some good squats and caroline dry docks.

Mosey back around the front of the school to door B12 where we did extended wall sits while the each man took a turn running forwards then back.

Mosey to the front lot for the finale – the bear crawl ascending parking space mirkins, all the way to 10, followed by some ab Mary, light stretching, finishing it off with a 1:30 elbow plank.

All in all a beautiful morning to be out in the sunshine and enjoy the spontaneity. Great AO and I hope the rest of SOJ gets chance to get up there with the true Daville legends. As always, appreciate the hospitality and the bond of seeing old friends and making them flip cones.

Afterwards we went for coffee at Local Cup. Great way to kick off the weekend. Peace.

  • Just another Saturday

3 guys showed up, I mean 4 showed up. One had to try and find the other three and finally did.

    Hybrid potato this morning.

Opus started with a mile run and then some exercises for a COP — then a triple check but only do it two times. I person runs the cul de sac, the other two do Wilson’s Boxing Cockroaches

Then it was Helix’s turn — run over a mile then a lazy dora of one man hang on the pull up bar while the other did 100 merkins, 200 mountain climbers, 300 SSH

off to Bulkhead — we finished up with a run around the back of the building about another mile. Then we started some exercises and almost got run over so we called it quits at that point. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

    Numbers, Names, etc.

  • This Beatdown is Out of Context

Friday night, YHC declared to the group chat that he was preparing a “hybrid beatdown that will make you cuss,” which was enough to keep much of the PAX snuggled in their fartsacks. Three of us entered the octagon for a combination of running and things the Q hates to do. Best anyone can recall, here’s what went down:

COP in front of Atlee HS with standard fare: SSH, helicopters, Ukrainian soldiers, LBCs, hand-release merkins. Then, mosey over to the Chickahominy parking lot for the first challenge Mr. Holland hates: bear crawling. It’s a long damn parking lot, and we traversed the whole thing, stopping at each of the six islands along the way for 20 of an exercise: WWIIs, mountain climbers, jump squats, merkins, calf raises, and burpees to finish it off (but 10). There was discussion about non-consensual activities with road signs, but YHC will let you imagine the context for that.

With the goal of getting two laps in (3 miles) along with other painful things, we needed to make up some time, so off we ran until the speed bumps behind Cool Spring. Then, the next installment of things Mr. Holland hates: sprinting. Sprint from one speed bump to the next, then walk to the next one, repeat several times. For the remainder of the first lap, the PAX stopped at every speed bump for 20 exercises, alternating arms, core, legs.

Lap two included a triple check in between Atlee and CMS: donkey kicks, bench dips, and more bear crawling. It sucked. More running until we reached the speed bumps, and then to finish the lap, each man took turns calling 20 of an exercise until we ran out of time. Along the way, there was discussion about a certain PAX member’s expanding groin. Again, readers can imagine their own version of the context.

Special mention to Spit, who ran his own personal 10K while we were out doing our thing, with an 8:50ish pace.
